Abstract:
In 2011, a new English translation of the Roman Missal was promulgated. Many have complained that this translation is not suitable for liturgical use, as churchgoers find it very hard to understand. Given that the Congregation for Divine Worship has recently approved a second translation of some of the prayers of the missal into a Tudor style of English for the liturgy of the Personal Ordinariates formed to give pastoral care to former Anglicans and Episcopalians, it is clear that the ideal of a single liturgical translation per language per region can be relaxed for pastoral needs. This article proposes that a similar pastoral solicitude be shown to those who would benefit from the celebration of the Eucharist in a vernacular style closer to everyday English and that the 1998 Sacramentary translation be re-examined for possible liturgical use alongside the 2011 Roman Missal.

Abstract:
No final apresenta algumas sugestões conclusivas.Abstract: In view of a privilege granted to the Brazilian Catholic Church, the Eucharistic prayers of the Brazilian Roman Missal have been subjected to a number of interventions by the Assembly. These interventions obstruct the flow of the praying discourse. The present article, although agreeing with the pedagogical-pastoral principle that led to the adoption of these interventions, and having in mind their purpose, questions their actual quality and quantity. The text of a Eucharistic prayer is a logical unit; we ask, therefore, whether the interventions help to apprehend this theological-literary flow typical of the anaphoras. Having briefly examined the structure of the Roman Eucharistic prayers, the article then analyses each one of these prayers with its respective interventions. Finally the author offers some conclusive suggestions.

Abstract:
This paper aims to juxtapose the differences between the versions of the Good Friday oration ad intra ecclesiam and unveil the theological character behind these modifications by analysing the prayers. The source materials were Benedict XV’s Roman Missal, Ordo Hebdomadae Sanctae Instauratus, Variationes in ordinem Hebdomadae Sanctae inducendae, and two typical editions of the reformed Roman Missals from 1970 and 2002. The paper is divided into three parts. In the first, the orations from the ad intra ecclesiam collection are explained. In the second, the changes to the orations are analysed. Finally, the influence on the theological character of the orations is presented. The analyses lead to the conclusion that it is difficult to specify a single criterion for the modifications in the ad intra ecclesiam collection. Sometimes, the changes resulted in a new organisation of the Church (e.g., oration for the Clergy and Laity of the Church), a shift in a person’s present state (oration for Those Preparing for Baptism), or a new understanding of the role of the Church in the world (oration for the Church). Some modifications are difficult to explain (oration for the Pope, for Those in Special Need).

Abstract:
The Leofric Missal (late ninth- or early tenth-century French-English) explains that the ‘sun stood still’ for Joshua at Gibeon because the battle occurred on leap day, precisely when, in the Roman calendar, two consecutive days had the same date. A tenth-century Old English text by Ælfric also mentions and critiques this ‘priestly’ computistical explanation.

Abstract:
The aim of the work is to answer the question: How does a vision of the Church clearly centred on the Holy Spirit serve the truth, fulfill an apologetic function and lead to evangelisation? In three chapters the theo- and Christological starting point, pneumatological content and ecclesiological ef-fects are presented. The research hypothesis of the work is that pneumatic ecclesiology in its three fundamental dimensions - truth, apologia and mission - contained in the writings of Romano Guardini, was not only invaluable to contemporary theologians, but is also relevant to the challenges of the 21st century. Also nowadays, the knowledge of the experience and thoughts of the professor from Munich can help to defend the truth about God and the world and man against the loudest and most influential currents of modern philosophy, which can generally be described as scepticism about existence and knowledge of truth.

Abstract:
The crime novel is the imaginary illustration of a constant victorious justice in its fight against crime and its very relative success in Mexico proves that mexican society cannot be the gathering place of such an ideology. Nevertheless, P. I. Taibo II managed, contrary to historical logic, to reconcile the genre with the country. Through Cosa Fácil, La vida misma and Cuatro manos, an axiological jamming, better suited to collective mexican mentalities, gradually replaces crime novel manicheanism. At the same time, the enigma, following the sterilisation course of the investigation theme, disappears from plots. This phenomenon takes place when the enigmatic structure is getting more intricated. Therefore, Cuatro manos represents the defeat of the justice and the structural quintessence of the enigma. It is an attempt to litterary appropriateness and reorganisation of the destructured vision resulting from postmodern communicational abundance

By subscribing to the theoretical and methodological context of cultural comparative studies, this dissertation proposes a critical confrontation of two travel narratives to Italy, produced at the distance of centuries: Diálogo sobre a missão dos embaixadores japoneses junto à Cúria Romana by Duarte de Sande (1590), and Uma primavera em Itália by Abel Salazar (1934). According to a comparative approach, we have highlighted the historical, thematic and formal features that single out both texts, in order to ascertain the diachronic variation of the genre of travel literature.

Abstract:
ThLic. Mgr. Adam Sýkora: Missale Posoniense I. - critical edition (theseis), Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Catholic Theology, 2017. In the present thesis the author provides a critical edition of one of the oldest missals of Bratislava Chapter House: Missale Posoniense I. It is important source of European significance, which is pattern normative and representative in relation to the similar codices, and which was used in the Bratislava Chapter House before 1341st. Their significance is decisive since it is independent on the Missalia from the time Innocent III, and on the reform of Haymo of Faversham. The missal contains also the parts from Pontificale, Ordines and Breviarium. The text of this Missal was previously published only in facsimile form, which bears the technical limitations of the period of its creation. Since that time, other folios have been discovered that have not been published at all. Experts now has the text, with which can work effectively. Critical apparatus facilitate the work with the text, as well as indexes, tables and photo documentation attached. Full text
Abstract:
Missiology is about God's call and his sending forth of people to do his will. His call is always linked to his purpose. Thus, the primary purpose of God is salvation. And his salvation is all embracing. Similarly, the Church is the sacrament of salvation and is mandated to proclaim faith and salvation to all. Hence, the mission of God (missio Dei) takes place in the Church, and is implanted by the Church in the world (missiones Ecclesiae). The mission which Jesus gives to the Church is made possible by his own mission (missio Christi), and thus has its foundation in God. The history of the Catholic Diocese of Bethlehem begins with the German Missionaries of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (Spiritans). Importantly, for the Spiritans, the growth of the diocese depended upon the training of the lay people to teach catechism, to lead Priestless Sunday services and gradually by the training of the local clergy as well. The present situation in the Catholic Diocese of Bethlehem is the seemingly shallow understanding of faith and mission, and also the dwindling number of Catholics. This is clearly evident in the number of baptisms in the baptismal register and the head counts on Sundays. Nevertheless, the diocese is still called to preach the Good News to the poor and the oppressed. This thesis assesses the efforts of the pioneers (German Missionaries) as well as the current situation in the Catholic Diocese of Bethlehem, and recommends a paradigm shift for the future.

Csiszer, Monika. "Towards a new vision of the laity and their mission : an exploration of the response of the Roman Catholic Church in Hungary to the Vatican II documents." Diss., 2006. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/2493.

Abstract:
The present study explores how the guiding principles and aspirations of the II Vatican Council concerning the theological status and significance of the laity and their involvement in the apostolic mission of God come to fruition in the `movement church' within the Roman Catholic Church of Hungary. The restoration of the lay status and function, distorted through the centuries in the Roman Catholic Church worldwide, is a crucial and indispensable task of the Roman Catholic Church if she wants to fulfil her prophetic, pastoral and holistic mission. This is indispensable for the Church to become what she really is, the eschatological people of God. Two revival movements in the Roman Catholic Church in Hungary are studied: the Bokor Movement and the Roman Catholic Charismatic Movement from the perspective of the role of the laity.

Abstract:
The issue of social issues was not alien in the theological reflection of Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger. A kind of opus magnum in the output of Pope Benedict XVI is the encycli-cal from 2009: Caritas in veritate. The Pope touches upon contemporary problems that concern humanity, trying to point to the most important capital which is a human being. At the same time, he indicates that for the defense of integral human development, it is necessary to agree and respect his spiritual layer. The Pope warns that humanism without God becomes inhuman humanism. An expression of solidarity is respect for religious free-dom, and the greatest enemy of solidarity, according to Benedict XVI, is marginalization. In 1983, in Bydgoszcz, there was a confrontation of the social movement of “Solidarity” with the civic militia. In response, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki dedicated his work to Byd-goszcz Miserere op. 44. The composer’s religious creativity in times of forcing the idea of practical materialism reminded us of a deeper (spiritual) layer of reality. The words taken from the Bible and the Roman Missal, accompanied by a four-part choir, lead the listener through meditation on the human person and life. The article points to the main idea of both authors not to degrade man to the material and biological. The evidence points to the theological way of the Pope’s command and the musical form of the message of religious content by H. M. Gorecki.

Abstract:
This introductory chapter provides an overview of the political history of Rome. Rome's communal traditions and their emphasis on the city's autonomy were long-standing and vital. Yet, by the turn of the fifteenth century, the autonomous Roman commune was gone, replaced by papal dominion. Its institutions remained as mechanisms of papal governance, but the absence of autonomy or meaningful ideological commitment makes any appearance of communal vitality illusory. This transformation is notable in its own right, but its aftermath endows it with critical importance. Despite sometimes rocky relations with the city and its inhabitants, it was by and large from Rome that the popes would consolidate their power over the ever more robust Papal States, which have come to serve as an important case study for the emergence of early modern European states in general; for the evolution of sovereign power; and for the process and limits of secularization. This consolidation of papal power began in the fourteenth century and continued in the mid-fifteenth century, accelerating with the end of the Western Schism and the papacy of Martin V. Though the papacy is commonly credited with Rome's transformation, the book demonstrates that such an understanding of Italian, papal, and Roman history misses a fundamental, homegrown transformation of Rome's political culture, which preceded and enabled the consolidation of papal power.

Abstract:
Mathematics has an important place in society, but one that is not always obvious. ‘Mathematics, what is it good for? Quarternions, knots, and more DNA’ considers examples of mathematical theories—quarternions and knot theory—that have found unexpected applicability in sciences and engineering. Quaternions, introduced by William Rowan Hamilton in 1843 during his work on complex numbers, are now routinely used in computer graphics, robotics, missile and satellite guidance, as well as in orbital mechanics and control theory. Knot theory has found unexpected applications in the study of many physical and biological systems, including the study of DNA. Another example is the use of number theory in cryptography.

Abstract:
The first chapter is concerned with spelling out a theological context common to both a ‘theology for’ and a ‘theology of dialogue’, namely a Church called to witness to its faith. While the ‘new way’ of dialogue is sometimes understood as replacing traditional forms of missionary witness like proclamation, mission remains central to any account of Church and Christian faith. According to Vatican II, the Church is ‘missionary of its very nature’. These familiar words from Ad Gentes, the Council’s decree ‘on missionary activity’, lead to a discussion of the Roman Catholic contribution to the ecumenical consensus on mission which has coalesced around the Trinitarian theme of the Missio Dei. The typically Catholic principle of ‘inculturation’ or translation into new languages and cultural forms is a response to the Father’s work of sending the Word and the Spirit for the creation and redemption of the world, a work in which the Church is invited to participate.

However, it has long been thought that this bath, and the similar facility M7 at the other end of Main St near the Palmyrene Gate, were constructed by the soldiers. In the case of the C3 bathhouse it also became apparent post-2010 that the zone taken over by the military extended all the way into the adjacent block B2, while the S frontage of B4 opposite the bath on Lower Main St may well have been the edge of the unified military base. Consequently, had it been possible to conduct further fieldwork as projected for 2012, full re-survey of the C3 and (for completeness and comparison) M7 baths would have been undertaken. Circumstances prevented this; however, discussion of these facilities is still necessary, especially as both were only summarily published. This review draws on a preliminary inspection undertaken in 2010, as well as archival material. It concludes that the C3 facility was significantly larger and grander even than already understood. Like the other bathhouses, the C3 facility was visible as an upstanding mound, and especially noticeable as the Ottoman road ran directly through it. The bath was partially excavated during the sixth season, and archival records are relatively good including a six-page typescript document, ‘Notes on Roman Bath in Block C3, excavated Jan.–Mar. 1933’, annotated ‘M. Crosby?’ There is also partial photographic coverage of the structure. The finds registers record 262 finds from the building, over 100 of them ascribed to specific rooms; however, few can now be specifically identified. Brown published a brief account of the bath, composed from ‘the notes of the excavator, Miss Margaret Crosby, carefully checked by personal observation of the author’ (PR 6, 95, n. 7). This, the only publication on the C3 facility, formed part of Brown’s comparative study of Dura’s bathhouses (PR 6, 95–104 and pl. IV, reproducing archive drawing Bath N.12; note on the mosaics and inscription 631: PR 6, 104–5; pls XVI.2–3; XXXIX.1–3).
