It is special in many respects. It is the most monumental and magnificent representation of Arion in ancient art. Arion is depicted in the central part of а complex mosaic consisting of many scenes, figures and motifs. He is sitting on a dolphin and playing music on his instrument. The dolphin motif in this scene is unique and not examined in the literature, leaving much room fo

Near Piazza Armerina (Enna), at the beginning of the cen. XX, the remains of the Roman Villa del Casale (4th century AD), with rich mosaic floors, were discovered. After the first restoration, in the mid-fifties of the cen. XX, the architect Minissi and C. Brandi designed a stable protection and system for the use of the remains of the villa. The roof was made with modern materials: aluminum profiles and sheets of glass and perspex, which evoked the ancient volumes, while maintaining the authenticity of the remains. The arrangement, due to lack of maintenance, has been a source of deterioratio

Chapter 7 narrates the adventures of Melania, Pinian, and Albina as they left the Italian peninsula, encountering danger in their sea travel, first to Sicily. In Sicily, a favored location for the estates of Roman aristocrats, Melania gathered sixty women, slave and free, to join her in ascetic practices.
