Abstract:
The doctoral thesis 'Comme un roman policier: Daniel Pennacs Malaussène-Serie als Spielart des Kriminalromans' delivers a thorough analysis of a popular French series consisting of five novels which are rooted in crime literature. The contemporary French author Daniel Pennac makes a playful use of elements characteristic both of the detective novel als well as the thriller. Aspects of the analysis include the structure of the novels, techniques of narration, depiction of society, methods of detection and use of language. Based on René Girard's scapegoat-theory Pennac creates the tragicomic hero of Benjamin Malaussène. Besides the exceptional protagonist, the rest of the Malaussène-universe can be divided into a 'good' in-group and a 'bad' out-group. Pennac draws rough sketches of the characters by using stereotypes and the inversion of stereotypes. By these means Pennac reveals by which absurd and paradoxical mechanisms the contemporary Western society often works. Concerning the detection, the author does not stick to traditional methods, but extents the intruments of knowledge to the supernatural. Theses variations of detective novel and thriller regarding the contents are presented in an elaborated and metaphorical style which furthermore contains innumerable reflections on language and literature. The thesis concludes with a classification of Pennac's Malaussène-Saga within the frame of modern French as well as crime literature.

Abstract:
Will German car advertisings be successful in a French environment if translated literally and vice versa? This study elaborates an analysis methodology for print advertising that results from a broad overlook over related issues. Advertising is seen as a mirror of society that reflects its specific culture. As such, significant data about the German and the French culture can be extracted from advertisings by analyzing the verbal and non-verbal content. This study relates research in semiology, text gendres, verbal and non-verbal communication, and content analysis. The extracted information is useful in synthesizing qualitative and quantitative aspects of current research in the domain of advertisings. The results indicate that nowadays advertisings show important differences in the appeal as well as in the stylistic design/execution in form of written texts and images. The conclusion of this research is antagonistic to the influencial thesis of the world as one global market (Levitt, 1983).

Der Ausgangspunkt der Synonymiediskussion kann in Frankreich im 17. Jahrhundert angesetzt werden. Die Synonymieproblematik berührt verschiedene linguistische Teildisziplinen. Synonymie wird als Bedeutungsähnlichkeit interpretiert, die sich durch gleiche / ähnliche semantische Merkmale manifestiert. Die durchgeführten Substitutionstests belegen dies und andere Hypothesen: Die Verlagerung der Synonymie auf die Sememebene wird verifiziert und die notwendige Textorientierung in der Synonymiediskussion bestätigt. Paradigmatische und syntagmatische Aspekte beeinflussen dabei die Synonymenwahl. Der Zusammenhang von Synonymie und Diaphasik zeigt, dass Synonyme stilistische Variationen aufweisen können. Nur in Ausnahmefällen werden diatopische und diastratische Elemente synonym zu den Äquivalenten der Allgemeinsprache gebraucht. Die Interaktion der beiden Differenzierungskriterien in der Synonymenwahl - Syntax und Semantik - beeinflusst die Probandenentscheidung. Wörter, die nachweislich synonyme Sememe enthalten, können aufgrund von Kollokationen nicht immer als synonym identifiziert werden.
The starting point of the discussion about synonymy can be set in France in the 17th century. The problem of synonymy comes into contact with different linguistic disciplines. Synonymy is interpreted as semantic similarity displayed on the level of identical / similar semantic features. Substitutional tests verify this and other hypotheses: The shift of synonymy to the semem level could be verified and the necessary context orientation within the discussion about synonymy could be confirmed. Paradigmatic and syntagmatic aspects have an impact on the choice of synonyms. The interrelation between synonymy and diaphasic variety reveals that synonyms can show stylistic variations. Diatopic and diastratic variations are used as synonyms to common language equivalents only in exceptional circumstances. The interaction of syntax and semantics - both distinction criterions for the choice of synonyms - influence the test persons' decision. Words that provably contain synonymous semems cannot always be identified as synonymous because of collocations.

Man weiß in Frankreich wie in Deutschland recht gut, daß Nietzsche in hohem Maß zur Hochschätzung und Verbreitung der französischen Kultur in seinem Heimatland und in Europa beigetragen hat. Der Durchschnittsleser dürfte aber noch immer viel zu wenig darüber aufgeklärt sein, von welchem Geist die Kultur erfüllt ist, für die der Philosoph sich mit einem bis heute anhaltenden Erfolg stark gemacht hat. Im folgenden soll daher versucht werden, das Wissen hierüber ein wenig zu erweitern.
