Full text--- The objective of this study was to determine the antimicrobial activity of the ethanol extract of R. officinalis in vitro on cultures of anaerobic bacteria common in patients with chronic periodontitis, using as a positive control to 0.12% chlorhexidine. We selected 24 patients with clinical and radiographic diagnosis of chronic periodontitis, who came to care at the clinic of the Faculty of Dentistry of San Marcos. He proceeded to take the sample with paper cones placed 30th in the periodontal pocket for 30 seconds, then took the samples to the microbiology laboratory for processing. We used the well diffusion method with the experimental solutions and incubated under anaerobic conditions for 48 h at 37 ° C, and then proceed to the reading of the inhibition zone diameters. From the results it was found that there is equal antimicrobial activity of the ethanol extract of R. officinalis 75mg/ml at a concentration of 0.12% chlorhexidine on cultures of anaerobic bacteria common in patients with chronic periodontitis. Full textActualmente, existe un creciente auge en el uso de plantas nativas en el área del paisajismo debido a las numerosas ventajas que poseen estas especies por sobre las plantas exóticas. Sin embargo, el interés en la flora nativa acarrea algunos problemas que se deben reducir en cuanto a la conservación, el cultivo y la propagación de estas especies. Esta memoria tiene como objetivo desarrollar un protocolo de germinación in vitro de semillas de Malesherbia linearifolia (Cav.) Pers. Esta especie, debido a su colorida y vistosa arquitectura, además de poseer un hábitat de altura en la pre-cordillera, resulta muy interesante desde el punto de vista ornamental. Para romper la dormancia endógena y/o exógena que presentan sus semillas, se aplicaron los siguientes métodos pre-germinativos: T1: Testigo; T2: 50 ppm AG3; T3: 100 ppm AG3; T4: Frío; T5: H2SO4; T6: H2SO4 + 50 ppm AG3; T7: H2SO4 + 100 ppm AG3; T8: H2SO4 + Frío; T9: Lavado por flujo de agua; T10: Lavado + 50 ppm AG3; T11: Lavado + 100 ppm AG3; T12: Lavado + Frío. Las evaluaciones consideraron porcentaje y velocidad de germinación, como cantidad de semillas germinadas en un período de noventa días. En ambos casos, velocidad y porcentaje de germinación, y debido a la interacción de los factores no hubo diferencias significativas relevantes para determinar cuál fue el mejor tratamiento de los evaluados. El ácido giberélico es un estimulador de la actividad embrionaria al romper el equilibrio hormonal en la semilla, es por esto que se sugiere que las semillas de M. linearifolia presentan una dormancia doble.
