The objective of this study was to develop design equations that predict lateral restraint forces in two commonly used Z-purlin supported roof systems. These are quarter point bracing and third point plus support bracing. To that end, a stiffness model used in the past has been reintroduced. The updated stiffness model was then used to estimate lateral restraint forces for a number of roof systems with a varying cross sectional dimensions of the purlin, number of purlin lines, number of spans, and span length.

Abstract:
AbstractMagnesium alloys are extensively used in various fields such as automobile, defense, and aerospace due to their high specific strength and good damping properties. Extrusion is one of the important metal forming processes that is used to process the cast alloy into various useful shapes at high production rates. It is also known to improve the workability and strength of the material. Due to these advantages, interest on the extrusion of magnesium alloys has significantly increased in the recent past. But due to poor formability at room temperature, extrusion of Mg alloys in the warm forming temperature range is an important process in the fabrication of these alloys. Optimization of process variables is critical for the minimization of extrusion load and prevention of defects. In this work, numerical simulations of the extrusion process of a Mg–Al–Zn (AZ31) alloy are carried out to predict the optimum combination of process parameters, namely, extrusion ratio, extrusion speed, and extrusion temperature. Hansel Spittle model was used to define the flow stress curve in the simulation. The effect of the process parameters on extrusion load was studied, and the optimum die angle required to minimize the load required for extrusion was predicted.

AbstractFor high-rise circular buildings, based on the values of wind load shape coefficients without similar shapes in the building structural load specifications, this project is based on BIM technology and combines BIM technology with CFD technology. Through CFD numerical simulation method, SST k-w turbulence model is used to simulate the surrounding wind field and 8 wind directions of the simplified single building model, and the overall and local wind loads of the building are studied and analyzed, determine the wind load shape coefficient to provide reference for circular buildings. The conclusion is that the windward walls and lower surfaces of circular buildings are mainly under positive pressure, while the leeward walls, sides, lower surfaces, and roofs are generally under negative pressure; The maximum positive pressure appears on the windward wall surface and lower surface of the outer ring, while the absolute value of the maximum negative pressure of the circular building appears at the edge of the inner and outer rings of the roof.

Abstract:
Abstract As a critical element in urban sustainability efforts, green roofs (GRs) can reduce building energy use and enhance ecological performance via additional growing medium and plant layers. However, the extra building components result in increased load and structural thickness as well as construction complexity. This paper proposes a design-fabrication method for a thin-vaulted green roof prototype with a compressive-only surface and upstand ribs along unevenly distributed stress lines for a lightweight and material-efficient structure. The structural efficiency of the proposed roof has been proven high compared to conventional flat roof through simulation. To realize such a non-standard and multifunctional structure, a hybrid formwork system is presented to deal with geometric complexity and functional integration by treating stay-in-place formwork as a function part. In particular, 3D clay printing (3DCP) is selected as eco-friendly formwork staying in the GRs to integrate with plant growth substrate, leading to a more simplified and sustainable fabrication. An empirical construction experiment is conducted to validate the proposed method on a 1:5 scale.

For instance, tensile specimens can be used with constant load technique or u-bends and c-rings with constant strain can be used. Naturally the decrease of load with time during testing is of great importance. For a constant strain type of corrosion specimen relaxation takes place and for a constant load specimen, low temperature creep occurs. In several documents the test load level for specimens is given. The load level in one document can be different whether constant load technique or constant st

Abstract:
Abstract Steam turbine blade and disc failures have occurred from time to time throughout the world. Although they are rare events, the implications for safety, for repair costs and for loss of availability are severe. Current operational and maintenance practices for any particular turbine design may be based on many years of satisfactory service. However, recent deregulation of the power industry in the UK and forthcoming deregulation in the USA may have an effect on operational and reliability issues, as changing operational demands are placed upon power generators through economic forces.

Abstract:
Roof intrusion is a major cause of neck injury to belted occupants during rollover accidents. The correlation of reduced head room with increased injury risk has been demonstrated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and others such as the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). The current FMVSS 216 standard requires the vehicle roof, when loaded with a platen of prescribed geometry and application vector, to resist 1.5 times the vehicle empty weight before deforming 127mm. This standard was developed to ensure a modest level of safety of the vehicle in rollover

A 12′ by 24′ passive solar test building has been constructed on the campus of the University of Louisville. The building envelope is comprised of structural insulated panels (SIPs), 12″ thick, (R-value of 45 ft2F/Btu) for the floor and walls and 16″ (R-63) for the roof. The building is divided into two symmetrical rooms with a 12″ SIPs wall separating the rooms. All joints between panels are caulked to reduce infiltration. Each room contains one window (R-9) on the north side wall, and two windows (also R-9) facing south for ventilation and daylighting, but which will also provide some direct

The study was conducted on a scale prototype, which simulates one of the rooms in the real vessel air conditioning system. The main results are as follows: the higher the thermal load, the higher the exergy destruction, and increasing the average temperature in the room increases the exergetic efficiency and reduces the exergy destruction. There is an optimal thermal load per unit area of 214.074 W/m2. The highest exergetic efficiencies and lowest values of the exergy destruction indices occur when the average temperature of the room is in the comfort range recommended by ASHRAE, from 22 to 24

To verify the safety application and use of Cr-Mo steel for the high-pressure hydrogen equipment, tensile, fatigue, and crack growth tests of JIS-G4105-1979 SCM435 and 440 steel under 45MPa high-pressure hydrogen at room temperature were conducted. There were no significant differences in tensile deformation behaviors between the air environment and 45MPa hydrogen until the maximum load point. However, the hydrogen tested specimen broke with less ductility accompanied by many surface crack on the specimen surface which is caused by the specimen machining. The scatter of ductility was observed
