The paper studies the ropeways as a special subgroup of land traffic system from the interdisciplinary aspect of the traffic sciences and geography. The ropeways have seen a propulsive technical and technological development over the last several decades. Therefore, the paper gives an overview of the types of ropeways with special emphasis on the technologically most advanced ropeways. Regarding the lack of studies on the ropeway issues in Croatia, the space distribution of ropeways in the Republic of Croatia has been analysed. Ropeways usually provide access to locations inaccessible to other means of transport. Due to this fact, the construction of ropeways is extraordinarily taxing in terms of both, technology and logistics. The site location is often in terrain difficult to access, which often precludes deployment of common construction mechanisms in ropeway construction. In such case, it is advisable to deploy a transport mechanism independent of the terrain – a helicopter. Functioning as “flying cranes“, the helicopters have been used in construction industry in Slovakia for six decades now. Having amassed posi

This work takes, as its overall trajectory, a leap from the heights of "factual" and "authentic" historical writing to the sea of fiction and myth. The first of the long poems, Ropewalk , is a sham biography of the French renaissance poet Louise Labé. To emphasize that much existing biography of Labé arises from interpretation of her lyrical poetry, the work incorporates lines of her sonnets, badly translated so that certain of the French words remain. Just as such translation does not seek to produce an apparition of the original, the poem does not seek to represent Louise Labé's life, but

Steel wire ropes are frequently subjected to dynamic reciprocal bending movement over sheaves or drums in cranes, elevators, mine hoists, and aerial ropeways. This kind of movement initiates fatigue damage on the ropes. It is a quite significant case to know bending cycles to failure of rope in service which is also known as bending over sheave fatigue lifetime. It helps to take precaution in the plant in advance and eliminate catastrophic accidents due to usage of rope when allowable bending cycles are exceeded. To determine bending fatigue lifetime of ropes, experimental studies are conducted. However, bending over sheave fatigue testing in laboratory environments require high initial preparation cost and longer time to finalize the experiments. Due to those reasons, this chapter focuses on a novel prediction perspective to the bending over sheave fatigue lifetime of steel wire ropes by means of artificial neural networks.

In the actual use of dynamic absorbers composed of a steel moving mass on a arc-shaped track, the tunings of natural frequency and damping coefficient are not easy. Liquid-type dynamic vibration absorbers have advantages of ease of tuning the natural frequency and the damping coefficient. In this study, dynamic absorbers composed of liquid (water or viscous liquid) in V-shaped or U-shaped pipes were investigated.
