Roque Dalton escribió en muchas oportunidades sobre su padre, el estadounidense Winnall Dalton, y su migración a El Salvador. A través de la figura del padre, Dalton desarrolló sus ideas sobre la opresión, la identidad y la relación entre los excluidos y los poderosos. En este artículo el autor se refiere a la manera en que la representación que Dalton dio de su padre reflejó la evolución de sus ideas sobre el imperialismo y el ejercicio del poder a nivel personal y político. La lectura de cuatro poetas centroamericanos: Ernesto Cardenal, Roberto Sosa, Otto René Castillo y Roque Dalton permite esbozar la caracterización de una cierta poesía revolucionaria de la segunda mitad del siglo XX, desde una perspectiva retórico-discursiva. Para ello, se cuestiona la función que algunos dispositivos retóricos específicos (figuras como la metáfora o estrategias complejas, y por ende difícilmente clasificables, como el motivo o topos) cumplen en los proyectos poético-revolucionarios.Abstract: Through the work of four Central American poets: Ernesto Cardenal, Roberto Sosa, Otto René Castillo, and Roque Dalton, we describe the features of certain revolutionary poetry of the second half of the 20th century, from a rhetorical and discourse theory perspective. For this, we question the function of some specific rhetorical devices (figures like the metaphor or complex strategies, therefore difficult to classify, as the motif or topos) in revolutionary poetic projects.Key words: Central American poets, Central America, revolution, rhetoric, second half of 20th century.Résumé : La lecture de quatre poètes centre-américains, Ernesto Cardenal, Roberto Sosa, Otto René Castillo et Roque Dalton permet d’esquisser la caractérisation d’une certaine poésie révolutionnaire de la deuxième moitié du XXe siècle depuis une perspective réthorico-discursive. Pour ce faire, nous interrogeons la fonction de certains dispositifs rhétoriques précis (figures de style telles que la métaphore mais aussi stratégies complexes et donc difficilement classables, comme le motif et le topos) dans les projets poético-révolutionnaires.Mots-clés : poètes centre-américains, Amérique centrale, révolution, rhétorique, deuxième moitié du XXe siècle.

Abstract:
Las dos figuras a partir de las cuales me acerco a la obra de Roque Dalton y a esa promesa de emancipación radical que fue el comunismo, serán la herencia y la promesa de felicidad que es todo futuro utópico. Ambas problemáticas serán leídas desde una perspectiva poética. Estos principios serán personalizados a través de dos grandes figuras: Vladimir Lenin y Antonio Gramsci. El gran tema del libro sobre Lenin que escribió Dalton es el problema de la herencia. El futuro lo vincularé a Gramsci debido a la importancia que ha adquirido su figura de la mano de pensadores como Ernesto Laclau y Chantal Mouffe en movimientos populares en Europa tanto como en América Latina. Los dos problemas, el de la herencia y el del futuro, están estrechamente vinculados entre sí. Ambos problemas, además, los interpretaré desde la noción que a los mismos les impone el lenguaje de Dalton, por lo que no usaré el pensamiento de Lenin y Gramsci para interpretar la obra de Dalton. Leeré la poesía de Dalton para interpelar a estas figuras y ver la validez que puedan tener para nuestra historia actual.Realidad: Revista de Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades No.145-146, 2015: 111-138

This research, aims to study and understand how culturally pass the works of two poets - Roque Dalton Garcia and Ernesto Cardenal Martínez - linked both to creative processes, which are intended to act in social transformation and offer a critical reading of the Latin American environment. It is ascertained by the presence of the Amerindian, the mythical, aesthetic pursuits, policies and specific and general contexts around his works. Also it aims to analyze the way in which his works have influencing an imaginary and a perspective that is able to exercise and to read the symbolic universe that intermingles the Latin American sociopolitical universe. Work it attempts a look at poetizar, the special features of this human making in the hands of two personalities who are reveling in political elements, spiritual positions, negotiations and hybridisms, in the richness, complexity and heterogeneity of our continent. Topics of mandatory approach are utopia and myth, topics such as liberation theology, the word revolution and metaphors and imagined that concentrate much of the making of these two men of letters.
La presente pesquisa, se orienta a estudiar y entender la manera en que transitan culturalmente las obras de dos poetas centroamericanos –Roque Dalton García y Ernesto Cardenal Martínez –, ligados ambos a procesos creativos, que tienen la intención de actuar en la transformación social y ofrecer una lectura crítica del entorno latinoamericano. Se indaga por la presencia de lo amerindio, la mítica, las búsquedas estéticas, políticas y los contextos específicos y generales que rodearon (o rodean) sus obras. También se tiene por objetivo analizar la manera en que sus obras influenciaron o influencian un imaginario y una perspectiva que es capaz de ejercitarse y dar lectura al universo simbólico que se entremezcla al universo sociopolítico latinoamericano. El trabajo intenta pues una mirada al poetizar, a las particularidades que asume este hacer humano en las manos de ambas personalidades, quienes se recrean en elementos políticos, posiciones espirituales, negociaciones e hibridismos que yacen en la riqueza, complejidad y heterogeneidad de nuestro continente. Temas de obligado abordaje entonces lo constituyen conceptos como el de Utopía y el tema de lo mítico, tópicos como la Teología de la liberación, la palabra revolución y las metáforas e imaginarios que concentran gran parte del hacer de estos dos hombres de letras.

RESUMEN Con base en dos concepciones teóricas sobre la literatura de testimonio — una relativa a la producción de América Latina, entre 1960 y 1980, y otra referente al campo de reflexión sobre la Shoah — este trabajo considera a Roque Dalton como autor de literatura de testimonio no únicamente por su obra Miguel Mármol. Los sucesos de 1932 El Salvador, sino también por su poesía. Esta representa la vivencia de la catástrofe con los mismos valores éticos y los mismos procedimientos estéticos que otros autores de otras tradiciones literarias utilizaron para representar la violencia del S. XX. Para demostrar esta tesis, que coloca al autor salvadoreño en diálogo con escritores tanto de América Latina como de Europa, analizamos un corpus de poemas de su obra Taberna y otros lugares, Premio Casa de las Américas, La Habana, Cuba, 1969.

Abstract:
In this work, I explain that the focus of criticism on the Central American poetry of the second half of the twentieth century has emphasized its political content. I argue, however, that such a limited view obscures the broader import of this poetry and its place in Latin American literature. By reading the work of Nicaraguan Daisy Zamora, Guatemalan Otto René Castillo, and Salvadoran Roque Dalton with an emphasis on affectivity rather than revolution, I suggest a different relationship between the poet and society, one that is not limited to the marginal figure of the mujer soldado, the poeta guerrillero or the poeta marxista in conflict with all societal norms. Rather, I argue that my study portrays the complex subjectivity of the speaker/poet not unlike that of non-revolutionary poets, as well as his or her multi-dimensional affective connections to family and society. At the same time, an analysis of affect in this poetry allows us to reconsider the nature of the revolutionary figure itself, no longer a myth or a romantic hero, but an individual inserted in society in a more complex way. In Chapter 1, “Daisy Zamora: De la mujer-soldado a la mujer-mujer”, I contend that an analysis of affectivity of her poetic work reveals how personal memory constructs an individualized subjectivity different from that of a woman-soldier. In the second chapter, “Otto René Castillo: De la lucha revolucionaria a la soledad del poema,” I argue that a negative connotation of romantic love is projected in his poems bringing about traces of existential solitude in the lyric subjectivity. Furthermore, Castillo’s poetry elicits a binary opposition between “the people” and the guerrillero in which the former is portrayed as lacking of agency. The third chapter, “Roque Dalton: y/o subjetividad en crisis,” reveals the ways in which the Salvadoran poet textualizes a poetic of disenchantment by way of projecting disdain and contempt to the “motherland.” In conclusion, my approach pinpoints how Zamora, Castillo and Dalton share the same preoccupations, affects and ways to conceive reality, which are also similar to the practices of those poets whose works are better-known given their national origin or because their poetic production has been widely studied by academia.
