Abstract:
Abstract: The case study presented in this paper demonstrates the utility of a collaborative discussion of the Rorschach Test. In a context marked by dependence on the psychologist and lack of elaboration, discussing Rorschach responses with clients has the potential of engaging them actively in therapy. The present case concerns a young man with delusional disorder. The Rorschach’s collaborative discussion made it possible to build a stronger therapeutic alliance between the client and the psychologist. Indeed, this discussion helped the client to express homosexual fantasies, an otherwise unacceptable social taboo. It also helped him to talk profusely about his family and religion during the therapy. In the absence of normative data on the Rorschach Test in the Togolese population, this collaborative discussion relies on the clinician’s intention to directly use the personal meaning of the Rorschach responses to advance psychotherapy.

60 university students were administered the Rorschach inkblot test and the Verbalizer-Visualizer Questionnaire (VVQ). No significant linear relationships were found between Rorschach scores involving human movement and color responses ( EB, M, Sum weighted C, and EA) and scores on the questionnaire. Also, no significant nonlinear relationship was found betwee Rorschach EB scores and scores on the questionnaire. Rorschach's hypothesis of a relationship between imagery types and Rorschach EB is brought into question.

Abstract:

Abstract. The Rorschach has become a cultural icon. Over the last century, Hermann Rorschach’s creative experiment has imbedded itself in our society and captured the imagination of generations of clinicians, researchers, artists, writers, and the lay public in general. The author writes an imaginary letter to Hermann Rorschach, informing him of what has become of the inkblot experiment he began over 100 years ago. Inviting the reader to join in this imagined communication, the author recounts what became of some of Rorschach’s colleagues and followers who promoted his test. The author informs Rorschach about the universal appeal of his experiment, along with the developments and the challenges to his inkblots since Rorschach’s untimely demise in 1922. Along the way, the author raises some of the unsettled questions about the nature and meaning of task, before closing by highlighting key aspects of the enduring legacy Rorschach left behind.

Abstract:
Literature about psychological test findings in borderline disorders reflects changes in the meaning of the term and can be confusing when viewed from today's prespective. Most descriptions have referred to a concept of borderline schizophrenia. This paper reviews psychological assessment of borderline patients by means of the Rorschach, by using WAIS/Rorschach patterns, and, post-DSM-III, by using the MMPI. It focuses on the Rorschach's sensitivity to several dimensions relevant to borderline pathology. The concept that borderline disorders can include mild forms of affective and schizophrenic illness was examined by applying a Rorschach content scoring system to a borderline sample. The findings demonstrate Rorschach ability to identify borderline subtypes and offer independent validation of affective and schizotypal subtypes in the borderline realm.

Abstract:
The relationships between the Rorschach test and the self-reported personality questionnaires are an important and unresolved issue in confirming structural and clinical hypotheses. In a sample of healthy volunteers (n = 47) we conducted a study to investigate the correlation between the Italian version of the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (Eysenck Personality Inventory, EPI) and some selected Rorschach variables defined according to the Exner Comprehensive System. The results showed that the Extroversion Scale of the EPI corresponds with the calculated difference between the Human Movement responses and the Weighted Sum of the Color response (M-WSumC, r = –.42, p < .01), the Weighted Sum of Color responses (WSumC, r = .40, p < .01) as a single variable, and the Sum of Shading responses (SumShd, r = .29, p < .05), but had no relationship with the Human Movement responses. None of the hypothesized Rorschach variables showed a significant correlation with the Neuroticism scale of the EPI. Furthermore, the Psychoticism scale of the EPI was negatively correlated with the Rorschach index Zsum (r –.33, p < .05). Finally, the comparison between the subgroups defined by the Erlebnistypus categories showed that Rorschach Extratensive subjects scored higher on the Extroversion scale of the EPI than Introversive (Mann-Whitney U = 30.5, p < .01) or Ambitent subjects (Mann-Whitney U = 76, p < .01). These results indicate that Rorschach’s concept of Erlebnistypus as a holistic dimension and Eysenck’s construct of Extroversion-Introversion are sufficiently homogeneous for psychometric assessment, but the single determinants of Rorschach responses have no correspondence with the EPI scores.

A konfliktus kezelésének történeti jellegzetessége a hegeli „megszüntetve megőrzés" (Aufheben), a régibe ágyazódó, megújuló módszertanok születése. Ezt tükrözi a Rorschach-teszt története is.Objective: This study makes the phases of the test's development, crises and renewal traceable by means of the historical trajectory of the Rorschach Projective Personality Examination Procedure.Methodology: An analysis of data collected from essential sources, including monographs as well as historical and literary studies, broken down into the historical periods of the test's development. Results: The historical trajectory of the test is described in six phases: From the idea to its realisation - the events prior to Hermann Rorschach's death (Phase 1); The fate of the test in the decade after Rorschach's death (1923-36) (Phase 2); The shift in focus to the United States (Phase 3); The period from World War II to the 1970s (1941-1970), The golden age and decline of the test (Phase 4); The rebirth of the test and the work of the synthesiser John Exner (Phase 5); and The test under attack and the birth of the new R-PAS test (Phase 6).Conclusions: The test's path of development, from its genesis up to the present day, has been marked by conflict. This reveals the tense and on-going contradictions between the discipline of causal thinking, the psychometric requirements of testing and a realistic, comprehensive and intuitive approach to interpreting behaviour. A historical feature of conflict management in Hegelian terms is 'sublation ' (Aufheben), or the renewal of methodologies that are embedded in the past. This is also reflected in the history of the Rorschach test.

Abstract:
The history of Turkish psychology, the cultural changes, and the rise of psychoanalysis have accompanied the development of Rorschach in Turkey. Yani Anastasiadis, the Turkish Rorschach pioneer, perceived Rorschach as “the radiography of human spirit.” So the history of the Rorschach begins in 1943, and it became widely utilized in hospitals and clinical settings. Although in the 1950s statistical evaluation ruled, Anastasiadis continued his research and presented several articles at conferences and published many written articles. Today other approaches such as Exner’s Comprehensive System and the currently used psychoanalytically oriented Rorschach, highly influenced by French schools, have emerged. The psychoanalytically oriented Rorschach system and the development of psychoanalysis in Turkey in general occurred at the same time, which is not a coincidence. The spread of psychoanalysis as well as the Rorschach test has been helped by a number of associations. The Society of Rorschach and Projective Tests was formed in 2003. Today, there are standardized Turkish norms of adults and adolescents, and several books have been published.

Roy-Chowdhury, Sreemoyee. "Sue Bridehead : a Rorschach test." Thesis, Durham University, 2018. http://etheses.dur.ac.uk/12454/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis is a metacritical survey of the criticism on Sue Bridehead’s portrayal in Thomas Hardy’s novel Jude the Obscure, from the time of its publication in 1895 to now, and is intended to be a comprehensive overview and analysis of the major critical lines of enquiry about Sue’s characterisation. Since the scope of this thesis is to engage with over one hundred years of literary criticism, I keep the focus concentrated primarily on the critical responses to the depiction of Sue. I discuss the reasons behind the sustained critical interest in her; and show how she has global appeal in unifying as well as differentiating reader-responses, and opening up new modes of theoretical analysis surrounding the complexity of her representation. The objective of this study is to demonstrate how Sue’s enigmatic characterisation effectually serves the purpose of a Rorschach test. I display how analysing her representation makes readers and critics commit to certain positions. This leads to a plurality in the critical responses - a development that is facilitated by Hardy, who leaves deliberate narrative gaps in the novel. I discuss how this creates the space for the readers to fill the textual gaps with their own presuppositions, and cultural and theoretical beliefs, while analysing Sue’s portrayal. This thesis draws on Hardy’s letters, literary notebooks, and biographies to contextualise the portrayal of Sue, as a supplement to the main body of analysis of the critical material on Sue that is available in book, essay and article forms. Finally, I suggest a way forward in critical studies of Hardy’s works using Sue’s portrayal as a case study through the application of the theoretical framework of ‘transculturalism’. This research seeks to contribute to the body of Hardy scholarship by providing an overview of the existing critical commentary on Sue, while emphasising the ongoing contemporaneity of his most controversial characterisation.

Abstract:
In spite of its quailties, the Rorschach Comprehensive System (RCS) presents substantial psychometric issues which are not solved by the new Rorschach Performance Assessment System (R-PAS). Thus, the main objective of this dissertation is to develop a satisfying psychometrical approach of the Rorschach test. A Parallel Analysis and a Principal Component Analysis performed on a normative sample of 695 Belgian, French and Fins participants define a 12 Components model of the Rorschach. If these dimensions are coherent with scoring principles and empirical evidences for the Rorschach they also reveal some scoring issues, neglected aspects of the Rorschach in the research field as well as they question the validity of some indices of the RCS. This model was applied to two empirical problems : the cross-cultural study of the Rorschach and its ability to assess problem solving strategies (which is a key feature of the RCS). The american norms of the RCS and the international reference values of the R-PAS cannot be used universally and it is necessary to use national norms. Moreover, the Rorschach does not assess problem solving strategies in a satisfying manner. These studies demonstrate that some fondamental principles of the RCS and the R-PAS must be questionned and the necessity to develop a new interpretation system for the Rorschach based on a psychometrical approach

Abstract:
Thirty-three children from a community sample, ages 5 to 13, were administered the Rorschach Inkblot Test, along with projective Draw-an-Animal and Draw-a-Person tasks and other psychological measures. Subjects were randomly assigned to one of three test order conditions: Draw-an-Animal followed by the Rorschach, Draw-a-Person followed by the Rorschach, and Rorschach before any other projective test. The number of Human and Animal contents in the test records was examined. Analysis showed no significant differences among the three groups for production of the content variables, suggesting that the Rorschach Inkblot Test is relatively robust with respect to test order effects.

Abstract:
The psychotic disorders, as a whole, and specially schizophrenia, inflict an evident impact upon one\'s life quality with such symptoms, affecting his well-being, professional affairs and relationship with the community. The earlier treatment starts, the sooner this person can be reintegrated into society, albeit it\'s effectiveness depends upon early diagnosis for intervention to be possible on a case by case basis. The study of Rorschach as an instrument for personality assessment can help on this process due to its wide scope of applications. Most researches about individuals with psychotic symptoms are about schizophrenia, however only few publishings have studied patients still near the psychotic episode and under minimal medication, and few researches established a comparative study between afflicted population and healthy one. The current research aim was twofold in the study of individuals near the psychotic episode which resulted in his first-admission in a mental health care facility and comparison with control group. Thus, experimental group consisted of twenty individuals that were first admitted to a mental health care service between may (2004) and march (2005), that have lived in the research delimited area for at least 6 months. Control group participants were likened by neighborhood, age range and gender; this way concentrating them on both demographically representative and relevant geographic regions for comparison. Data was obtained by means of two interviews, being the first one in order to familiarize participant and researcher, and the second one to administer Rorschach test. Only quantitative analysis was performed, scored according to the French System. Rorschach Method presented sensibility to discrepancies among both researched groups. There was statistically significant differences between experimental group and comparison group with regard to lower percentage of good quality form responses, lower scores of shading responses, lower percentage of animal responses. The analisys of those three items along with other Rorschach scores suggests that people with psychotic symptoms present greater difficulties to relate with others due to introjection of inadequate social stereotypes, no differentiation from internal and external reality, and weakened identification process permeated by desintegration anguish. This project is associated to a larger project entitled Estudos de Casos Incidentes (Primeiro Contato com Servicos de Saude) de Psicoses Funcionais no Brasil, which is being conducted by the Hospital das Clinicas da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Sao Paulo (HC FMUSP) research team, in an attempt to profile, study and compare psychosis affliction cases in Sao Paulo city with similar studies being carried in London, United Kingdom

Abstract:

Abstract:
The first part of the thesis (volume I) sets out to expound a methodological approach to the use of the Rorschach in the diagnosis of adult diseases, with two objectives. Firstly, it aims at a pluridimentional analysis of the contribution of the Rorschach to the exploration of the human psychic functioning. Secondly, it attempts to establish the links between the theoretical model provided by psychoanalysis and its possible applications in the field of projective tests. Therefore the framework of the projective situation is defined and the analysis of both manifest content and latent content of the material is specified. Moreover, the study of the Rorschach factors is explained in terms of psychic behaviors, an analysis of the characteristics of the individual functioning in a dynamic perspective is thus made possible. The second part of the thesis (volume 2) tests the analysis and interpretation approach by applying it to psychopathology and particularly to the three main areas of neurosis, pathology of narcissism and psychosis. The research brings out the fundamental constructions which characterize these mental organizations through the Rorschach : in the area of neurosis, the common features of the neurotic systems are examined through the analysis of the intra-psychic conflict and its rendering in terms of the Rorschach ; in the area of narcissism, particular signs (overinvestment in one’s barriers, refusal of the inner source of the pulsion, specular representations of the relations, white anguish) are brought out and interpreted in the light of recent psychoanalytic works; in the area of psychosis, trouble with the process of thought is studied thoroughly, particularly in relation to the representation of the body and the early relations, marked by discontinuity and attacks against the links. The three corresponding chapters are illustrated with studies of specific cases through a joint analysis in terms of the Rorschach and T. A. T

Abstract:
Body image is of crucial importance in every person's life, often defining their self-perception, identity, and relationship with the surrounding world. In individuals with an acquired motor disability, this image undergoes significant alterations. Prior to the serious road accident, these individuals had a certain understanding of themselves, based on their physical ability and interaction with the world. However, when this ability is impaired, an identity crisis can occur. The Rorschach test, as a projective tool, often reveals responses that illustrate these alterations and convey the struggle to redefine identity. Distorted or fragmented body images in the responses can indicate identity fragmentation, while images of transformation reflect the constant quest to integrate this new reality into their sense of self. By revealing these dynamics, the Rorschach provides valuable insight into how these individuals perceive and redefine their body image and identity. The study emphasizes the importance of understanding these deformations and transformations of body image and identity in twelve people with acquired motor disabilities. A thorough understanding of these aspects can help improve the psychological and social support offered to these individuals, thus helping them to better adapt to their new reality and redefine their identity in a more positive way

Abstract:
The main projective methods are conceived to be applied in a classic-paper style and the virtual-e-learning style represents the only possible learning experience for the students. The paper describes the experience of conceiving and using computer software in order to introduce the bases of projective psychology. The software (Matei Georgescu, Projective technique – interactive software, produced by Titu Maiorescu University, Bucharest, Romanian Office for Author Right: 0113 / 06. 02. 2001) was used in the benefit of the third year psychology students of a private university and support the direct experience with the virtual-stimulus-material of the main projective techniques such as Rotter, Düss, T.A.T., Rosenzweig, Rorschach, Szondi, Lüscher, Koch. Projective Psychology Lab was developed by se use of the computer and the Projective technique software over a semester of study, for three years under my assistence. The program contains the following items: the limits of the projection concept, the analytic relation and the projective relation, verbal associative experiment, completing sentences test and fables method, Thematic Apperception Test, the frustration test, the inkblot test, the drive analysis test, the color test, the tree test, draw a person test. Each method presentation contains information about the technique, the stimulus-material and the manner of interpretation. The access to stimulus-material of the Thematic Apperception Test, the frustration test, the inkblot test and the drive test analysis is possible in the order of test protocol. The software allows the color calibration of Lüscher test and also quotation examples. The Rorschach stimulus-material can be rotated within 360 degrees limit. The quotations index of the tree test is accessible in the order of the main interpretative zones. Despite the fact that the projective techniques were not conceived to be applied in the virtual-computerized style, during the three years pedagogical experiences with the Projective technique – interactive software, we have noticed the succes of such an introductory electronic way of learning.
