Full textTaking as a starting point the theories of Damourette and Pichon, Benveniste, Guillaume and Joly, our study aims to describe the organisation of the category of Person and it’s functioning mainly in the languages (French and Romanian) and in speech. We’ll also discuss the way textbooks show to the student this functioning and organise the didactic transpositions. We think that the category of person is organised on three levels: language, language system and speech. Each of these levels includes the idea of definite and indefinite person. In our study we discussed only the three definite persons: 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Even if these are the same in language, each language system can develop a specific organisation: for example French and Romanian languages have a system organised in “simple persons” (ex: je, tu, eu, el, etc. ) and “complex persons” (nous, vous, noi, ei, etc. ). But the speech looses this organisation and sticks to the language organisation: person who speaks (1st person), person to whom we speak (2nd person) and person about who we speak (3rd person). Based on this observation that language system and speech functioning are not identical in French and Romanian, we decided to analyse the way Romanian textbooks for teaching French teach the students about the category of person and especially about the personal pronouns. In order to do this we also discussed the problem of concepts creation and concepts transfer from the mother tongue to the foreign language. The differences between French and Romanian make the Romanian students who learn French reconsider and reorganise the Person concept. The textbook should help the student in this process, but our analysis shows that this doesn’t really happen, mainly because of the fact that language system and speech functioning of the category of person are mixed during the didactic transposition

Full textThis study investigates the distributional and interpretive properties of three classes of semantically dependent items in Romanian: negative concord items, existential free-choice items and the existential dependent determiner vreun, which shares properties of both. I identify a licensing semantic constraint which ties the occurrence of this existential polarity item to the type of alternatives entertained by the epistemic agent. Extending the area of empirical investigation, we consider similar facts (in French and Spanish) which provide support for the existence of a class of epistemic polarity items. I endorse the unified theory of polarity put forward in Chierchia (2006), and argue that polarity sensitivity stems from the domain widening property common to all polarity items. On this account, distributional constraints result from the inferences speakers draw on the basis of the alternatives polarity items introduce, which, crucially, have to lead to an enriched meaning. The interaction with other elements of the landscape of polarity items is shown to play an important part in understanding the licensing constraints of polarity sensitive items and the parameters of crosslinguistic variation

Full textThis PhD dissertation has two main aims : (i) define the nature of prepositions in general and characterize functional prepositions in contrast with prepositions known as lexical prepositions ; (ii) describe and explain the syntactic behavior (categorial status and syntactic function) of functional prepositions in Romanian. Adopting a comparative approach, we propose that prepositions are a semilexical category, that is, a category displaying heterogenous properties: lexical and functional at thé same time. One can thus distinguish two subclasses of prepositions : one in which the lexical character is more prominent, and one with a more prominent functional character. We point out that the prepositions known as lexical may be analyzed as predicates assigning a theta role to their complement. Conversely, functional prepositions are not predicates, do not assign theta roles to their complements and do not project prepositional phrases; instead their projections are of the same categorial nature as their complement's. We then examine the functional prepositions a, de, la and pe in Romanian. More precisely, we analyze the phenomenon known as differential object marking, as well as constructions in which morphological case marking alternates with functional prepositional marking. The empirical generalizations that we propose take into account both the syntactic and the semantic properties of functional prepositions, their complements and their projections

Full textRecent developments in language research focus not so much on traditional grammar as on the examination of the mental processes the use of language implies, direction approached in the research " Discourse organization plans. The connectors in french and in romanian ". After outlining the itinerary from the grammar-textual projects of the 1970's to the instructional models of the last decade in parallel to the evolution of the concepts of " coherence " and " cohesion ", the author confining this research only to connectors. The overview of the main theoritical or experimental studies concludes with a definition of connectors which does justice to the two particular features of this class of morphemes : categorical heterogeneity and functional homogeneity. From chapter 3 onwards, this study focuses on the discovery of the system of dicursive solidarity represented by connectors through a sequence of practical applications on " mais " and its correspondents in romanian, by means of translation test. What would then be the primary instructional nucleus of the french connector ? And that of its romanian equivalents ? Up to what point can one speak of an equivalence relationship ? In other words, does romanian follow the same mental operations as french ? - These are the questions the author tried to answer. The last part relaunches the discussion with respect to solidarity systems and their interactions. The connectors interact within the sequence they are part of but they also interact with other levels of discourse organization. What follows is a conventionalized game which, far from being deterministic, produces textual convergence or divergence effects that reinforce or decrease the various instructional effects

Full textPhraseology is approached here in the light of a Rumanian - French compared analysis. Experiments enabled us to identify the difficulties related to the translation of the phraseological units and to establish their typology. Taking into account the diversity of the problems, it appears necessary to look further into the study of phraseology. To this end, a bilingual corpus of 14 200 phraseological units was made up. The analysis of the corpus enabled us to establish principles of equivalence as well as to highlight important aspects of the phraseological process of the two languages. The results of the analysis are presented in two parts. The first part deals with formal aspects and leads us to an important number of translation rules. In the second part, we approach the semantic aspects such us the verb's semantic, the phraseological variation and picturesque constructions. As a conclusion, we evoke the various applicative prospects of this study

Full textIn 1989 the proclamation of independence of the Republic of Moldova came along new linguistic laws adopted by the Parliament. The institutionalization of the denomination of the official language, Moldavian language (Constitution of 1994), encountered a strong opposition from the intellectuals, who had approved the identical linguistic nature of the Romanian and Moldavian languages. The Moldavian glottonym refers to the Soviet period of the promotion of the Moldavian language distinct from the Romanian language; a conduct today qualified of political manipulation and failed linguistic experiment. From now on the linguistic planning of the State language requires the Moldavian society to look for adapted solutions, by overcoming some contradictions inherited from the past. Regulation of the relationships between the new independent States originated from the ex-Soviet Union is evolving as well. This evolution leads to the installation of a new relationship dynamic between the different ethnic groups and the language of the State they reside in. We will observe how a language is tangibly recognized as a State language (official). Which pathway followed linguistic planning in Republic of Moldova since its independence? What happens in the symbolic and imaginary space of a State language recognition process? We will observe the position of the State language in the Republic of Moldova in the society through its status and constitutive elements: linguistic reglementation and institutions of linguistic planning, linguistic and educational policies, present sociolinguistic forces (and notably the representations that are assigned to languages, etc.). Full textThis thesis describes the functions and the values of IFULI 'us' in Korean using a corpus of more than 30,000 tokens. It isolates two productive syntactic patterns: in predicates, the values of WULI are specified by indices which give information on the number of actants in the process described, while in noun phrases, they rely on the semantics of the noun to wich WULI is connected by three syntactic forms: 1) by means of the genitive particle (WULluy N) in which a personalised relationship with the speaker IS expressed; 2) orthographically by a space (1WULI N) which can be interpreted as the inclusion of the speaker in a micro-group specified by the noun ; 3) by a fusion (WULIN) which defines the national links of the speaker. This study combines the Issues of number and of identity with respect to the collective person and shows that the frequent use of WULI indicates an discours strategy of self-reference: the speaker identifying himself through an inclusion in a group

Full textThe aim of this thesis is to study the subject third person personal pronoun and to define the main steps that lead from latin to the current italian pronominal system. This research, both diachronic and synchronic, brings to the fore the caracteristics of the italian language that has a large number of pronouns (egli, ella, lui, lei, loro, esso, essa, essi, esse). The first two chapters present a comparative study between french and italian and show how the pronoun work s in latin and in old toscan. Chapters iii to vi cover a study of the third person personal pronoun in italian litteratu re from its origin to noadays. Percentages given at the end of each period, show the main tendencies of italian and the prominence of lui, lei, loro. The conclusion show that italian that stands between latin and french is a language that keep evolving and the personal pronouns are an evidence of this evolution
