Abstract:
Abstract The article examines three films by Roy Andersson, Songs from the Second Floor (Sånger från andra våningen, 2000), You, the Living (Du levande, 2007), and A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence (En duva satt på en gren och funderade på tillvaron, 2014). The Swedish director depicts the human condition afflicted by the loss of its humanity through a personal style that he calls “the complex image,” a tableau aesthetic that instigates social criticism, and is dependent upon long shots, immobility, unchanging shot scale, and layered compositions. The author establishes a connection between artistic and social space and scrutinizes the challenges that this “complexity” poses for the film viewer from an intermedial perspective in which cinema enters into a dialogue with two other art forms: painting and theatre. Four specific issues are discussed: (1) the intertwining of reality and artificiality as a “hyperreality;” (2) the visual compositions which are simultaneously self-contained and entirely open, highlighting a tension between volume and surface; (3) the opposition between stasis and movement, conveying a meaningful social contrast and the characters’ angst; (4) the pictoriality of the image.

Abstract:
Abstract The paper proposes to focus on the multiple affordances and intermedial aesthetic of the cinematic tableau seen as a performative space resulting in the impression of watching a painting, a theatre stage, a shop window, a diorama, or a photo-filmic installation in which the play between stillness and motion is accompanied by a reflexive emphasis on media and the senses. Such images, described extensively by David Bordwell in his writings on the evolution of film style, are being re-evaluated through debates on the “tableau form,” “absorption and theatricality” in modern art and photography (e.g. Jean-François Chevrier, Michael Fried). In particular, the aim of this paper is to examine inflections of the cinematic tableau in the films of three contemporary European authors, Corneliu Porumboiu (Romania), Roy Andersson (Sweden) and Joanna Hogg (UK), and relate them to the paradigm of the Dutch interior established in seventeenth-century painting.

Abstract:
In this article, I explore three films that comprise Swedish director Roy Andersson's “Living Trilogy” – Songs from the Second Floor (2000); You, the Living (2007); and A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence (2014). My aim is to push the philosophical bearing of Andersson's films towards Jean-Luc Nancy's philosophy of art and cinema. How should we understand his cinematic way of looking, intermedial images, and production of sense? First, I trace Andersson's concept of the “complex image” and aesthetic of “trivialism.” Second, I outline Nancy's approach to “presentation” and the “evidence of film.” Third, I describe Andersson's “axiomatics” of looking and collection of characters. Finally, I consider the ways this co-existential trilogy suggests a realization of a Nancian ontology of being-with and exposure to the sense of a world. I contend that Andersson's style is a praxis and a regard for this world. What his fragmentary films communicate to us can be illuminated by Nancy's idea that some cinema makes evident a sense of the world.

Abstract:
Quarterly water consumption data collected in a small water supply system were used for elaboration of a new water consumption modeling approach. In this paper, multi-distribution statistical analysis was performed. As the Anderson-Darling test proved, at least a half out of the ten tested theoretical probability distributions can be used for description of the water consumption. The application of the PWRMSE criterion made it possible to determine, which of the tested theoretical distributions is the best-fitted to the empirical data set. In the case of total daily water consumption for the group of the households, it was Johnson distribution, whereas for the average daily water consumption per capita, it was GEV distribution. Based on the best-fitted probability distribution, a 25-year water consumption simulation with the Monte Carlo method was conducted. Because methodology of this study is based on the probability distributions, even if the type of theoretical distribution of the water consumption will change, it will be still possible to use this simulation method by assuming the other distribution.

Full text
Abstract:
The localization of light known as Anderson localization is a common phenomenon characterizing aggregates of metallic nanostructures. The electromagnetic energy of visible light can be localized inside nanostructures below the diffraction limit by converting the optical modes into nonradiative surface plasmon resonances. The energy of the confined photons is correlated to the size and shape of the nanostructured system. In this work, we studied the photoluminescence dependence of aggregates of 14 nm diameter gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) synthesized by drop-casting a liquid suspension on two different substrates of glass and quartz. The AuNP aggregates were characterized by electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The dielectric constant of the surrounding medium plays a crucial role in determining the aggregate geometry, which affects the Anderson localization of light in the aggregates and hence causes a red-shift in the plasmonic resonance and in the photoluminescence emission. The geometry of the gold nanoparticle aggregates determine the strength of the Anderson localization, and hence, the light emission from the aggregates. The photoluminescence lifetime was found to be dependent on the AuNP aggregate geometry and the dielectric constant of the medium.

Abstract:
The objective of the study was to characterize the mycological quality of air at animal veterinary practice in Krakow. Bioaerosol measurements were performed during the summer season of 2017. The samples of outdoor and indoor air at animal veterinary practice were collected using a 6-stage Andersen`s air sampler. The highest concentration of fungal aerosol was observed in the treatment room. The analysis showed various fungal contamination in different measuring points at different measuring times of the day. Based on the analysis of bioaerosol particle size distribution it was found that the largest "load" of fungi, isolated form the air, can reach (in the human respiratory tract) to the region of the throat, trachei and primary bronchi. The predominant fungi in indoor air was Penicillium spp. and Cladosporium cladosporoides. Fungi that can cause dermatophytoses have also been isolated from indoor air: Microsporum canis and Trichophyton verrucosum. The study confirmed that the animal veterinary practice can be a workplace related to exposure to microbial agents.

Abstract:
Her X-1 is an X-ray pulsar with a rotation period of 1.24 s and a binary period of 1.7d (Tananbaum et al. 1972). The 1.7 d variations in optical and ultraviolet flux are attributed to X-ray heating of the companion star and disk (e.g. Howarth & Wilson 1983, hereafter HW83). The system displays a 35 d period, attributed to the effects of a tilted, precessing, accretion disk. Optical and ultraviolet flux variations continue unchanged throughout. This work is motivated by the following reasons:• The observed IUE spectra have significantly flatter slopes than those predicted by previous models (e.g. HW83).• The observed strength of the Balmer jump is anomalously low compared to that expected for a normal B star (Anderson et al. 1994).• HST observations obtained by Anderson et al. (1994) in order to study emission lines have yielded high quality spectra of the continuum emission from HZ Her, enabling for the first time detailed model fitting efforts.

The calculated results of 5f → 3d5/2 RXES show the strong dependence on the X-ray polarization. Using the selection rule of the dipole transition with polarized X-rays, the calculated spectral features are explained.

The Center for X-ray Optics (CXRO) built and operates a high-resolution soft x-ray microscope (XM-1) at the Advanced Light Source in Berkeley. We report on the use of this instrument in a variety of scientific fields, including biology, civil engineering and environmental sciences. The microscope is a conventional (full field) x-ray microscope, which uses zone plate lenses to provide high resolution transmission images. The optical setup is similar to the Göttingen x-ray microscope, operated at the BESSY synchrotron radiation facility in Berlin, Germany. A condenser zone plate, fabricated by the Göttingen group, is illuminating the sample and an objective zone plate, fabricated by Erik Anderson (CXRO), is forming an enlarged image on an x-ray CCD camera. While the optical path of the microscope is in vacuum, the sample is at atmospheric pressure, flushed by helium. The spatial resolution of our microscope is 43 nm, measured as the distance from 10%-90% intensity in the image of a knife-edge.

Abstract:
A novel tungstoantimonate, [Na5(H2O)18{(HOCH2)2CHNH3}2][SbVWVI 6O24] (SbW6 ), was synthesized from an aqueous solution and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, which revealed C2/c symmetry. The structure contains two serinol [(HOCH2)2CHNH3]+ and five Na+ cations, which are octahedrally surrounded by 18 water molecules, and one [SbVWVI 6O24]7− anion. The serinol molecules also play a critical role in the synthesis by acting as a mild buffering agent. Each of the WVI and SbV ions is six-coordinated and displays a distorted octahedral motif. A three-dimensional supramolecular framework is formed via hydrogen-bonding interactions between the tungstoantimonates and cations. Powder X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis and IR spectroscopy were performed on SbW6 to prove the purity, to identify the water content and to characterize the vibrational modes of the crystallized phase.

Abstract:
Undiagnosed diabetes is a threat to public health. This study aims to identify potential variables related to undiagnosed diabetes using Andersen’s behavioral model. Baseline data including blood test data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) were adopted. First, we constructed health service related variables based on Andersen model. Second, univariate analysis and multiple logistic regression were used to analyze the relations of variables to undiagnosed diabetes. The strength of relationships was presented by odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Finally, the prediction of multiple logistic regression model was assessed using the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve and the area under the ROC curve (AUC). According to diagnosis standards, 1234 respondents had diabetes, among which 560 were undiagnosed and 674 were previously diagnosed. Further analysis showed that the following variables were significantly associated with undiagnosed diabetes: age as the predisposing factor; medical insurance, residential places and geographical regions as enabling factors; having other chronic diseases and self-perceived health status as need factors. Moreover, the prediction of regression model was assessed well in the form of ROC and AUC. Andersen model provided a theoretical framework for detecting variables of health service utilization, which may not only explain the undiagnosed reasons but also provide clues for policy-makers to balance health services among diverse social groups in China.

Abstract:
An effective Hamiltonian of the Anderson single-impurity model with finite-range Coulomb interactions is derived near a particular limit, which is analogous to the Toulouse limit of the ordinary Kondo problem, and the physical properties around the mixed valence quantum critical point are calculated. At this quantum critical point, the local moment is only partially quenched and X-ray edge singularities are exhibited. Around this point, a new type of non-Fermi liquid behavior is predicted with an extra specific heat C imp ~ T1/4 + AT ln T and spin-susceptibility χ imp ~T−3/4 + B ln T.

Abstract:
UC and UMeC2 (Me = Fe, Zr, Mo) carbides were studied by the high-energy-resolution fluorescence-detected X-ray absorption (HERFD-XAS) technique at the U M 4 and L 3 edges. Both U M 4 and L 3 HERFD-XAS reveal some differences between UMeC2 and UC; there are differences also between the M 4 and L 3 edge results for both types of carbide in terms of the spectral width and energy position. The observed differences are attributed to the consequences of the U 5f, 6d–4d(3d) hybridization in UMeC2. Calculations of the U M 4 HERFD-XAS spectra were also performed using the Anderson impurity model (AIM). Based on the analysis of the data, the 5f occupancy in the ground state of UC was estimated to be 3.05 electrons. This finding is also supported by the analysis of U N 4,5 XAS of UC and by the results of the AIM calculations of the U 4f X-ray photoelectron spectrum of UC.

Abstract:
The strong variations observed in the satellite and multiplet structure of photoemission at resonance with a deep core level and in the circular dichroism and spin resolved photoemission provide an interesting method to determine the electronic structure of correlated materials as well as the possibility to assign the peak structures. Analysis of these effects in the x ray absorption and photoemission of ferromagnetic nickel using an Anderson impurity model suggest that nickel has a ground state with d weights of around 15% d8, 50% d9 and 35% d10, and that its bulk orbital magnetic moment of 0.053 μ B is strongly enhanced at the surface.

Abstract:
ROSAT All Sky Survey observations of IRAS galaxies have revealed up to now a number of (10) optically non-Seyfert galaxies with X-ray (0.1–2.4 keV) luminosities up to a few 1043 erg · s −1 (Boller et al. 1992). The sources are brighter than previous detection limits of a few 1041 erg · s −1 as found by Stocke et al. (1991) or Green, Anderson & Ward (1992) for Einstein sources. The optical classification is based on follow-up observations which indicate clearly the non-Seyfert (LINER and HII region-like galaxies) nature. Our investigations reveal that galaxies classified as non-Seyferts on the basis of optical spectroscopy may reach exceptionally high X-ray luminosities which are similar to that of Seyfert galaxies. On the basis of the present observational material we suppose a hidden low luminosity AGN in the centre of these objects as the source of energy production. The objects are of interest when evaluating starburst versus central activity.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTThe blazar OQ 334 displayed a γ-ray flare in 2018, after being in the long quiescent γ-ray state since 2008. Subsequent to the flare, the source was in a higher γ-ray flux state and again flared in 2020. We present here the first spectral and timing analysis of the source at its various flaring states. During the higher γ-ray state, we found four major peaks identified as P1, P2, P3, and P4. From timing analysis we found rise and decay time of the order of hours with the fastest variability time of 9.01 ± 0.78 h. We found the highest γ-ray photon of 77 GeV during P4, which suggests the location of the γ-ray emitting region at the outer edge of the broad line region or the inner edge of the torus. The γ-ray spectral analysis of the source indicates that during P4, the γ-ray spectrum clearly deviates from the power-law behaviour. From cross-correlation analysis of the γ-ray and radio light curves, we found that the two emission regions are separated by about 11 pc. Our broad-band spectral energy distribution modelling of the source during quiescent and active phases indicates that more electron and proton power are required to change the source from low flux to high flux state. The Anderson–Darling test and histogram fitting results suggest that the three days binned γ-ray fluxes follow a lognormal distribution.
