Abstract:
Abstract Aromatherapy is a Practical or Complementary Health Therapy that uses volatile concentrates extracted from plants called essential oils, in order to improve physical, mental and emotional well-being. Aromatherapy has been practiced historically and worldwide by nurses and, as in Brazil is supported by the Federal Nursing Council, it is relevant to discuss this practice in the context of Nursing through Theories of Nursing. This study of theoretical reflection, exploratory and descriptive, aims to discuss the pharmacognosy of essential oils, the historical trajectory of Aromatherapy in Nursing and the conceptions to support Aromatherapy in light of eight Nursing Theorists (Florence Nightingale, Myra Levine, Hildegard Peplau, Martha Rogers, Callista Roy, Wanda Horta, Jean Watson and Katharine Kolcaba), contributing to its inclusion as a nursing care practice.

Abstract:
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) was perhaps the nearest thing to a ‘flash’ party seen in British politics in modern times. It was formed in March 1981, largely on the initiative of four leading figures in the Labour party (Roy Jenkins, David Owen, Shirley Williams and William Rogers), following the apparent success of the left in dominating the party, and initially it had a sensational impact on British politics. It had thirty MPs by March 1982 (mostly as a result of defections by Labour MPs); in alliance with the Liberals it immediately went to first place in the opinion polls and stayed in that position until May 1982. The Alliance won four by-elections between 1981 and 1983, and in the 1983 general election, with 25.4 per cent of the vote, came within two points of ousting Labour from its second place. For the next four years the Alliance held its position and in the 1987 election its vote fell only slightly to 22.6 per cent.

Abstract:
King Roger, a masterpiece of the Polish composer Karol Szymanowski (1882-1937) is a key-work to the development of his author. Taking place in the medieval Sicily, setting for the confrontation of many civilisations (in particular Greek, Byzantine, Arabic and Norman), the opera presents itself as a mosaic of cultures (interculturality) and of varied artistic sources (pluridisciplinarity). Extending from the Bacchae of Euripides to nietzschean philosophy and from the music of the Tatra Mountains to the wagnerian drama, this kaleidoscope of sources is articulated by a few fundamental ideas. The present study considers the opera, according to the words of the composer himself, in the binary opposition between « great contrasts and riches » and the « united worlds » by means of particular methods of integration which rise this mosaic to the status of a Work of Art.The present study gives a series of insights into the opera, the only way of considering a work of such complexity in its entirety. Confronting the projects and the result, it is organized by the rhythm of the oppositions in presence, approaching different arts by their multiple layers (through the study of varied sources) and their part in the final work

Noel, Bradley Truman. "Pentecostal and postmodern hermeneutics: comparisons and contemporary impact." Thesis, 2007. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/2155.

Full text
Abstract:
The focus of this practical theological study is Pentecostalism, and the relationship between the hermeneutics of Pentecostalism and Postmodernism. Through a literary search, we observe the points of congruency between the hermeneutics of early Pentecostals and the key tenets of Postmodernism. We note the unprecedented acceptance of Pentecostal scholars into the larger theological world and question whether this is a result of the increased Modernization of Pentecostal hermeneutics. The Postmodern world of youth is explored, and we observe their tremendous openness to spirituality. This thesis will show that Pentecostals may contribute to the Christian world a Pentecostal hermeneutic that will speak a relevant message to generations of youth. Chapters two and three examine the convergent viewpoints of Pentecostalism with Postmodernity, in terms of rationalism, narratives, and the place of experience in life and theology. Chapter four highlights the hermeneutical debate between Gordon D. Fee and his Pentecostal responders, noting the Modern approach in the principles debated. Chapter five seeks to provide interaction with a giant of theology seldom engaged by Pentecostals - Rudolf Bultmann - and his modern followers, and explores the world of Postmodern youth. Chapter six explores the work of Kenneth Archer, who has proposed a specific Pentecostal hermeneutical approach, and chapter seven discusses the role of the Holy Spirit in hermeneutics, including whether Pentecostal experience may be considered an ”edge” in hermeneutics. Chapter eight summarizes the findings of this study.

Abstract:
“Back in the saddle again” explains how the figure of the singing cowboy was cemented by a series of radio and Hollywood stars, from Gene Autry to Roy Rogers and Patsy Montana. Much of this music was popularized over the radio, particularly on Chicago’s National Barn Dance, which led to pressure on the Grand Ole Opry to modernize its sound. This era also saw the rise of the so-called “brother acts”—notably the Blue Sky Boys—who created a smoother form of old-time singing. During the mid-1930s, Western swing combined the cowboy image and country instrumentation with big-band stylings through the work of artists like Bob Wills.

This chapter describes Rollini's side activities while he had a contract with Bert Lown. He was in demand as a party in recording sessions for his musical ideas, his ability to contribute a thorough bass line together with swinging solos. His first date was with a small group directed by piano player Rube Bloom.Next was Leo Reisman's large dance band, which through the addition of ex-Duke Ellington trumpet player Bubber Miley, produced some outstanding recordings. Others included Red Nichols and Miff Mole as well as a row of singers: Jack Kaufman, Jack Miller, Lee Morse, Buddy Rogers, and Eddie Walters and Ethel Waters. There were follow-up dates with Rube Bloom, Annette Hanshaw, and Joe Venuti. His side jobs made Rollini a busy man.

Abstract:
This chapter examines Henry Sidgwick's utilitarianism. It first considers Sidgwick's agnosticism before discussing his views on subjects ranging from hedonism and colonialism to poverty, common-sense morality, and politics and political economy. It then looks at some of Sidgwick's writings, such as The Development of European Polity, The Elements of Politics, Lectures on the Philosophy of Kant, and The Methods of Ethics. It also explores the current reconstructions and appropriations of many of Sidgwick's positions in the works of philosophers like Roger Crisp, Rob Shaver, Peter Singer, Derek Parft, and Katarzyna de Lazari-Radek, and argues that they have contributed to a true renaissance of hedonistic and rational intuition-based utilitarianism (or at least rationalistic consequentialism) that few saw coming even in the late twentieth century.

Singer, Donald, and W. David Menzie. "Descriptive Models." In Quantitative Mineral Resource Assessments. Oxford University Press, 2010. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780195399592.003.0006.

Full text
Abstract:
Mineral deposit models play a central role in an information system that will help the policy makers to make their decisions. Ideally, the different kinds of deposit models would provide the necessary and sufficient information to discriminate (1) possible mineralized environments from barren environments, (2) types of known deposits from each other, and (3) mineral deposits from mineral occurrences. Probably the most important part of creating mineral deposit models is the planning stage in which consideration of the purpose and possible uses of the models should determine the character of the models. The way to describe a model is first by thinking about what it is for, about its function, not the list of items that make up its structure (Churchman, 1968). Although there are many fine compendiums of mineral deposit models (Australian Geological Survey Organisation, 1998; Eckstrand, Sinclair, and Thorpe, 1995; Kirkham et al., 1993; Lefebure and Hoy, 1996; Lefebure and Ray, 1995; Roberts and Sheahan, 1988; Rongfu, 1995; Sheahan and Cherry, 1993), the focus in this book is on deposit models applied to quantitative resource assessment. The focus of this chapter is the descriptive aspects of the deposits because the goal is to provide a basis for interpreting geologic observations rather than to provide interpretations in search of examples (Cox, Barton, and Singer, 1986). Thus, the discussion herein is limited to mineral deposit models specifically designed for quantitative assessments such as those in Cox and Singer (1986), Bliss (1992a), Orris and Bliss (1991, 1992), and Rogers et al. (1995). Mineral deposits modeled for three-part assessments are defined as mineral occurrences of sufficient size and grade that they might, under favorable circumstances, be economic. Although history suggests that we can expect discoveries of as-yet-unrecognized deposit types, the three-part assessments discussed here do not include resources from these deposits simply because they cannot be modeled. Most published quantitative mineral resource assessments that have used models have relied upon descriptive and grade-and-tonnage models (chapter 6), which are also the foundations of other kinds of models such as deposit-density models (chapter 4) and economic cost models (chapter 5).
