Abstract:
Abstract Aromatherapy is a Practical or Complementary Health Therapy that uses volatile concentrates extracted from plants called essential oils, in order to improve physical, mental and emotional well-being. Aromatherapy has been practiced historically and worldwide by nurses and, as in Brazil is supported by the Federal Nursing Council, it is relevant to discuss this practice in the context of Nursing through Theories of Nursing. This study of theoretical reflection, exploratory and descriptive, aims to discuss the pharmacognosy of essential oils, the historical trajectory of Aromatherapy in Nursing and the conceptions to support Aromatherapy in light of eight Nursing Theorists (Florence Nightingale, Myra Levine, Hildegard Peplau, Martha Rogers, Callista Roy, Wanda Horta, Jean Watson and Katharine Kolcaba), contributing to its inclusion as a nursing care practice.

Abstract:
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) was perhaps the nearest thing to a ‘flash’ party seen in British politics in modern times. It was formed in March 1981, largely on the initiative of four leading figures in the Labour party (Roy Jenkins, David Owen, Shirley Williams and William Rogers), following the apparent success of the left in dominating the party, and initially it had a sensational impact on British politics. It had thirty MPs by March 1982 (mostly as a result of defections by Labour MPs); in alliance with the Liberals it immediately went to first place in the opinion polls and stayed in that position until May 1982. The Alliance won four by-elections between 1981 and 1983, and in the 1983 general election, with 25.4 per cent of the vote, came within two points of ousting Labour from its second place. For the next four years the Alliance held its position and in the 1987 election its vote fell only slightly to 22.6 per cent.

Abstract:
In the past several decades methods have been developed to stabilize the subaxial cervical spine both posteriorly and anteriorly. Methods of posterior stabilization have progressed from interspinous wiring, through facet wiring and sublaminar wiring, to the lateral mass screws with plates and rods that are in use today. Plates for anterior stabilization have evolved from rigid plates requiring bicortical screws through those used with unicortical locking screws, to dynamic load-sharing plates used with variable angle screws. The original description of spinous process wiring was published by Hadra in 1891. In 1942 Rogers described the interspinous wiring method used for trauma-induced cervical instability, which was modified by Bohlman in 1985 (triple wiring technique). Luque rods with sublaminar wires were introduced in the late 1970s to address multilevel and occipitocervical instability. Facet wiring was developed in 1977 by Callahan to address the problem of stabilization when laminae are not present. Wiring remained the method used until Roy-Camille introduced the lateral mass screw–plate construct in the 1980s. The first plate for anterior stabilization was designed by Orozco and Llovet in 1970 and was later refined by Caspar; this was a rigid plate with bicortical screws. Morscher devised unicortical locking screws in the 1980s. The latest concept of dynamic load-sharing plates with variable angle screws was developed in 2000. In this article historical landmarks in surgical methods for the stabilization of the subaxial cervical spine are reviewed.

Abstract:
Parental involvement is mentioned more than one hundred times in the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). In this article, John Rogers argues that President Bush and former U.S. secretary of education Rod Paige have promoted policy narratives of test accountability, choice, and parental involvement that describe how poor parents can spur educators to have higher expectations and to work harder. What is missing from these policy narratives, Rogers argues, is a fundamental understanding of the problems facing poor communities: a lack of both resources and tools for collective action. Through the case study of a grassroots nonprofit organization, Parent- U-Turn, Rogers demonstrates how parents can create what he calls public power by responding to structural and systemic educational problems through shared inquiry and collective action. Rogers holds up this case as an example of how parents might become true forces for accountability in public education and outlines ways in which the lessons of this example might be incorporated into the reauthorization of NCLB.

Abstract:
Rapid technological advances in communication technologies and computational power are altering the nature ofknowledge, skills, talents and the know-how of individuals. A CD-ROM dictionary is an interesting and effectiveteaching tool, which captures pre-service teachers’ interest and does much more than just translates especially withthe availability of a variety of resources to support language learning and teaching. This research reports on thestudy undertaken to determine whether some factors (gender and year of study) affect pre-service TESOL teachers’attitudes towards using CD-ROM dictionaries. The theoretical framework for the study is drawn from Diffusion ofinnovations’ theory by Rogers (1995) and TAM model by Davis (1986; 1989). A modified questionnaire isemployed to obtain the necessary information on pre-service TESOL teachers’ backgrounds, their attitudes towardsusing CD-ROM dictionaries, and certain factors. A total of (80) pre-service TESOL teacher at a Malaysian highereducational institution was purposively selected for the quantitative data. The findings exhibit that the respondents’gender does not affect their attitudes towards using CD-ROM dictionaries. However, a significant difference isrevealed, through employing one-way analysis of group variance (ANOVA), in the mean scores of pre-serviceTESOL teachers’ attitudes among the first, second and third year. Finally, it is concluded that the CD-ROMdictionary is a way of encoding all relevant information associated with lexical entries in a manner easily accessibleto users.

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:
Noting that popular film and television have answered the Trump era's mass erosion of truth and justice with narratives about powerful deceivers and sophists, Film Quarterly Assistant Editor Marc Francis argues that no fiction has yet to offer as cohesive and relevant a response to these times as the what he terms the “bio-con” (biographical con) documentary. The bio-con documentary zeroes in on one notorious figure—a fraud—the unveiling of whose scheme occupies multiple national news cycles and is therefore ready-made for an extended investigation. Citing well-known examples such as Fyre Fraud (Jenner Furst and Julia Willoughby Nason, 2019), The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley (Alex Gibney, 2019), Divide and Conquer: The Story of Roger Ailes (Alexis Bloom, 2018), Where's My Roy Cohn? (Matt Tyrnauer, 2019), Francis probes these films for what insights they can offer about what is politically at stake in a postdemocracy United States and the connection between falsity and fascism.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The crystal structures of praseodymium silicide (5/4), Pr5Si4, and neodymium silicide (5/4), Nd5Si4, were redetermined using high-quality single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. The previous structure reports of Pr5Si4 were only based on powder X-ray diffraction data [Smith et al. (1967). Acta Cryst. 22 940–943; Yang et al. (2002b). J. Alloys Compd. 339, 189–194; Yang et al., (2003). J. Alloys Compd. 263, 146–153]. On the other hand, the structure of Nd5Si4 has been determined from powder data [neutron; Cadogan et al., (2002). J. Phys. Condens. Matter, 14, 7191–7200] and X-ray [Smith et al. (1967). Acta Cryst. 22 940–943; Yang et al. (2002b). J. Alloys Compd. 339, 189–194; Yang et al., (2003). J. Alloys Compd. 263, 146–153] and single-crystal data with isotropic atomic displacement parameters [Roger et al., (2006). J. Alloys Compd. 415, 73–84]. In addition, the anisotropic atomic displacement parameters for all atomic sites have been determined for the first time. These compounds are confirmed to have the tetragonal Zr5Si4-type structure (space group: P41212), as reported previously (Smith et al., 1967). The structure is built up by distorted body-centered cubes consisting of Pr(Nd) atoms, which are linked to each other by edge-sharing to form a three-dimensional framework. This framework delimits zigzag channels in which the silicon dimers are situated.

Abstract In a single pot synthesis consecutive reaction of the tetradentate amine-thiole H2-'S2N2H2' 2 ('S2N2H2'2- = 1,2-ethanediamino-N,N'-bis(2-benzenethiolato)(2-)). with [LiN(SiMe3)2] and benzyl chloride (BzCl) yields the amine-thioether 'Bz2S2N2H2' which gives the tertiary amine-thioether 'Bz2S2N2Me2' when reacted with further [LiN(SiMe3)2] and CH3I Removal of the benzyl groups with an excess of sodium and acidification with hydrochloric acid finally yield H2-'S2N2Me2' I ('S2N2Me2'2- = 1,2-ethanediamino-N,N'-di- methyl-N,N'-bis(2-benzenethiolato)(2-)). 1 and 2 have been characterized by X-ray structure analysis. With [Ni(CH3COO)2] · 4H2O,1 yields racemic [Ni('S2N2Me2')] 3 in a diastereospecific reaction. Crystallization of 3 leads to spontaneous resolution of the racemate. By X-ray structure analysis of 3 the absolute configuration in the single crystal examined was determined using Roger's μ-refinement (μ = 1.00(4)). Upon reaction with [RuCl3·3H2O]. LiOMe and CO. I yields [Ru(CO)2('S2N2Me2')] 5. Spectroscopic data indicate that 5 and the parent complex [Ru(CO)2('S2N2H2')] differ with respect to their core structures. Influence of the amine methylation on structure and reactivity of complexes with [M('S2N2R2')] cores, R = H. Me, is discussed.

Abstract:
Abstract We study the modularity of Ramanujan’s function k ( τ ) = r ( τ ) r 2 ( 2 τ ) k(\tau )=r(\tau ){r}^{2}(2\tau ) , where r ( τ ) r(\tau ) is the Rogers-Ramanujan continued fraction. We first find the modular equation of k ( τ ) k(\tau ) of “an” level, and we obtain some symmetry relations and some congruence relations which are satisfied by the modular equations; these relations are quite useful for reduction of the computation cost for finding the modular equations. We also show that for some τ \tau in an imaginary quadratic field, the value k ( τ ) k(\tau ) generates the ray class field over an imaginary quadratic field modulo 10; this is because the function k is a generator of the field of the modular function on Γ 1 ( 10 ) {{\mathrm{\Gamma}}}_{1}(10) . Furthermore, we suggest a rather optimal way of evaluating the singular values of k ( τ ) k(\tau ) using the modular equations in the following two ways: one is that if j ( τ ) j(\tau ) is the elliptic modular function, then one can explicitly evaluate the value k ( τ ) k(\tau ) , and the other is that once the value k ( τ ) k(\tau ) is given, we can obtain the value k ( r τ ) k(r\tau ) for any positive rational number r immediately.

Abstract:

Smith, J. Scott, and Danny Keeven. "Creating Separation From the On-Field Product: Roger Goodell’s Image Repair Discourse During the Ray Rice Domestic Violence Case." Communication & Sport 7, no. 3 (April 23, 2018): 292–309. http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/2167479518769896.

Abstract:
This analysis examines National Football League (NFL) Commissioner Roger Goodell’s image repair strategies during the Ray Rice domestic violence crisis. After receiving criticism for only suspending Rice for two games, the attacks against the NFL and Goodell substantially increased when TMZ released a previously unseen video of Rice knocking out his then-fiancée Janay Palmer in a Revel Casino elevator. Facing these new attacks, Goodell relied on a separation strategy that included acknowledging the NFL had a domestic violence problem, shifting the blame to Rice, and highlighting the NFL’s new domestic violence policy which was the most stringent in professional sports. Goodell also used mortification to enhance his separation strategy to suggest that he was responsible for the insufficient punishment of Rice, which shifted the blame to Goodell and away from the NFL product and NFL owners. Unlike other CEOs who only gain notoriety during an organizational crisis, Goodell was already disliked by players and the public prior to the Rice scandal, which may have enhanced his attempts to shield the league from the scandal. Implications are drawn concerning how the public’s perception of an executive can influence the effectiveness of image repair discourse and how a separation strategy can bolster an organization’s defense.

Abstract:
The 30th anniversary of the landmark legislation known as Title IX witnessed a year-long public policy drama over whether the law should be amended in some fashion. The saga reveals much about the political strategies of interest groups engaged in gender policymaking in the 21st century and tests conventional wisdom about policy windows (Kingdon, 1994) and agenda access (Cobb and Ross, 1997). In June 2002, U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige appointed a blue ribbon commission to examine ways of strengthening enforcement and expanding opportunities for all college athletes under Title IX. Over the next 12 months, the commission held public hearings and forwarded numerous recommendations for change to the Secretary, but subsequently the Department of Education elected to take no action. As David Rochefort and Roger Cobb point out, “If policymaking is a struggle over alternative realities, then language is the medium that reflects, advances, and interprets these alternatives” (1994, p. 9). This case explores the overarching strategic goals, membership mobilization efforts, and media strategies of “initiators” and “opponents” (Cobb & Ross, 1994). We juxtapose these strategies against the unfolding media coverage (an analysis of 297 major newspaper stories in 13 major print outlets) and testimony by 225 individuals before the commission. While revealing the dynamics of problem, policy and political streams (Kingdon, 1994) and strategies of agenda denial (Cobb & Ross, 1994), the case also exposes important paradoxes that may be explained by gender.
