ABSTRACT:The 1910 International Town Planning Conference is rightly seen as a major moment in the development of modern urban design. It drew together more than 1,000 architects and planners from across the world. At first sight, the conference consequently appears to provide further evidence for the importance of transnational town planning networks in this period. This article, by contrast, highlights the domestic agendas which underwrote the event. It shows that the conference was considerably less successful and less international than has previously been argued. It thus stresses the limit

The original paper, entitled Flight Planning Before Computers 1946–1959, was written by Mr D. Bulstra in 1995. Written from a civilian operator's point of view, it includes very full explanations of the principles upon which the flight planning techniques were based, including mathematical derivations, examples of meteorological charts, and tables and graphs of aircraft performance. In the later nineteenth century and early twentieth century its buildings were subjected to pressures for piecemeal change to accommodate new commercial functions and a rapidly growing population. As the grip of royal control slackened, the primary initiators of change wer
