Rubió i Bellver acompañó a su maestro, Antoni Gaudí, a Palma de Mallorca para colaborar con él en las obras de reforma de la Seu. This thesis investigates the intrusion of science-fictional tropes and iconography onto our current social reality, and the cultural anxieties that this has produced. I characterise these anxieties broadly as a fear of obsolescence – ‘obsolescence’ signifying a loss of agency, relevance, uniqueness, and competence. My collection of short stories and exegesis experiment and engage with narrative strategies drawn from two closely overlapping narrative forms, science fiction and postmodern fiction, to articulate and represent obsolescence.

Case-noncase studies, also known as case-control studies, are ubiquitous in epidemiology, where a common goal is to estimate the effect of an exposure on an outcome of interest. In many areas of application, such as policy-informing drug utilization research, this effect is inherently causal.
