Brumme, Jenny.

Abstract:

Abstract:
IntroductionSuicidal behaviors are frequently observed among patients with substance use disorder, including suicidal ideation (SI) (1). Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is one of the most prevalent addictions and may be related to suicidal behaviors (2,3). However, the association between AUD and SI requires a deeper analysis which includes several clinical features observed among AUD patients.ObjectivesTo analyze the clinical characteristics and features associated with lifetime SI among patients who had AUD.MethodsThis is a cross-sectional study performed in an outpatient center for addiction treatment in patients seeking treatment who met the criteria for AUD between 01/01/2010 and 12/31/2021. Patients were evaluated with an ad-hoc questionnaire and the European addiction severity index (EuropASI). SI was evaluated by using the item for SI in EuropASI.ResultsFrom a potential sample of n=3729 patients, only n=1082 (73.8% males; mean age 42.82±12.51) met inclusion criteria and had data for the current analysis. Lifetime SI was present in 50.9% of the AUD patients. Several clinical features were related to SI, including: sex differences, any type of lifetime abuse, polyconsumption, benzodiazepine use disorder, any psychiatric diagnosis aside of SUD, and higher addiction severity according to the EuropASI (See table)Image:ConclusionsSI among AUD patients is related to several clinical features which indicate a higher addiction severity, more polyconsumption, and a higher prevalence of psychiatric comorbidities. These findings may contribute to the understanding of suicidal behaviors in AUD patients but it is required further investigations, including longitudinal studies.REFERENCES1. Ara demostrem que a l’època no només va ser un text molt valorat pels estudiosos, sinó que també circulava entre els escriptors i traductors i que, a més, va influir en les seves respectives traduccions.</p><p><br />In this article, some textual examples are provided to show that the translators of the <em>Divine</em><br /><em>Comedy</em> in Catalan throughout the 20th century —especially Antoni d’Espona, Antoni Rubió i Lluch, and Josep Maria de Sagarra— referred to Andreu Febrer’s medieval translation, which was edited by Vidal i de Valenciano in 1878. It is known that the scholars of that time gave a great importance to this translation from the second half of the 19th century onwards, and more precisely, when commemorating the sixth centenary of Dante Alighieri’s death in 1921. Here it is proved that not only was this text highly valued by scholars, but it was also read by writers and translators. This is known because the medieval translation influenced these modern Catalan translations.</p>

My Century: The Odyssey of a Polish Intellectual by Aleksander Wat in Spain. A witness of the twentieth century My Century: The Odyssey of a Polish Intellectual by Aleksander Wat has been prepared by the pair of translators J. Slawomirski and A. Rubió and edited in the editorial Acantilado in 2009. The translation had to be a great challenge since the book is a complicated and hybrid text. With regard to the generic form, it is a trans-discursive text, as far as the content is an unfinished speech and as far as the style is a poetic text. We have been analyzing these three aspects of the book to conclude that the style chosen by the translators determined the shape of Wat’s book, that is, a kind of historical document or personal testimony.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The Consolatio Philosophae of the Roman scholar Boethius (around 480-524 AD) is, as the numerous manuscripts, translations, and commentaries show, undoubtedly the most influential work of late antiquity for the medieval West. Between 1358 and 1362, two Catalan Dominicans, Pere Saplana and Antoni Genebreda, created and published a Catalan version of the Latin book for the first time. It consists of a very free adaptation and a lengthy commentary that is occasionally inserted. The thesis advocated by Jordi Rubió i Balaguer that this Catalan version of Boethius is dependent on the Consolatio commentary by Thomas Anglicus can be refuted by a closer comparison of the two works. The Catalan Boethius is a clear testimony to a medieval interpretatio christiana of the Roman Neoplatonist, which on the one hand is deeply influenced by the spiritual current of the contemptus mundi and on the other hand testifies to the humanistic interest of the Catalan intellectuality of the 14th century. As a linguistic creation, the work is of great importance. It makes the struggle of a young language visible when dealing with its “mother tongue”, Latin. In conveying such an inaccessible area as ancient Neo-Platonism, the authors had to create new ways of expressing themselves. Freely developed anecdotes to illustrate the transmitted content, as well as the retelling of the Orpheus myth based on the Boethic version, undoubtedly deserve our attention as significant examples of medieval narrative prose. A close relationship with the language of Bernat Metge, especially in his first work Llibre de Fortuna e Prudència, an imitation of the Consolatio of Boethius, can be identified. A literary dependency of this book on the Dominican version, which was written some twenty years earlier, would even be possible. The Catalan version has been translated into Castilian and edited four times. A direct translation of the Consolatio into Castilian was only published in 1516 by Alberto de Aguayo.

Abstract:
The indigenous North American red raspberry, Rubis strigosus has been neglected in breeding programs. Only four cultivars, `Cuthbert', `Latham', `Herbert' and `Ranere' provide most of the germplasm contained in present-day cultivars; no more than six individual wild genotypes of the species are represented by the four cultivars. In recent years, the B.C. breeding program has screened seedling populations of hitherto unexploited genotypes of the species from various locations in North America. Useful traits identified in selections from the populations include levels of resistance to 1) the North American aphid vector, Amphorophora agathonica, of the raspberry mosaic virus complex, 2) to several cane diseases and 3) to root rot caused by Phytophthora fragariae var rubi, as well as desirable fruit traits, such as bright, non-darkening red color and easy release. Selections with cultivar potential have now been identified in the second and third backcross generations from the species.

Abstract:

Adolescence is a transitional process between childhood and adulthood (Antona, Madrid and Alaez, 2003), which involves physical, cognitive and social changes (Johnson, Roberts and Worrell, 1999). During this stage, risky behaviours are often developed, including alcohol and tobacco consumption. Alcohol is the most psychoactive substance consumed among adolescents, aged 14-18, followed by tobacco in Spain (DGPNSD, 2009). The teenagers who use alcohol and tobacco have a higher probability of having problems of aggresiveness and violence and it is also related to health problems (Bellis et al., 2005; Gil and Gil-Lacroix Lacroix, 2006; Room, Babor and Rehm, 2005). Several studies (Bond, Carlin, Thomas, Rubin and Patton, 2001; Cangas, Gázquez, Perez-Fuentes, Moldes and Rubio, 2007; Piñero-Ruiz, López-Espín, Cherry and Torres-Cantero, 2012) have linked the presence of violence at school disturbing the environment and having negative consequences for the health and behaviour to a higher frequency in the consumption of alcohol and tobacco. In this study, 2552 questionnaires were collected with ages among 12-16 years from the Murcia Region. The results showed that students with aggressive behaviours at school have a higher frequency of alcohol and tobacco consumption.

Abstract:
Background:Vitamin D plays an important role in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases, so that it has been shown that an adequate level is associated with a lower risk of developing this group of entities as well as a lower severity of them. Specifically, in spondyloarthritis (SpA) the deficiency has been associated with greater aggressiveness and greater radiological progression. Objectives:Assess levels of vitamin D in patients diagnosed with SpA in the León University Assistance Complex and study its possible relationship with different clinical-epidemiological variables. Methods:Prospective observational study between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019 with consecutive sampling of patients diagnosed with SpA (New York criteria, ASAS) in our hospital between 1973 and 2018. It was taken as a cut-off point for vitamin normality D those values ≥ 30 ng / ml. The disease activity was assessed based on BASDAI and CRP level (taking as a cut-off point 5 mg/l, reference value of our hospital and ruling out elevation due to intercurrent processes) in the last consultation. Positive values above 130 mlg/dL were considered for the orosomucoid and for calprotectin as undetermined values between 50-100 mg/kg feces and suspected IBD greater than 100 mg/kg feces. An attempt was made to link the value of vitamin D with disease activity, tobacco, the development of uveitis and the presence of subclinical intestinal inflammation.Results:132 patients were included, of which 60.6% were men with a mean age of 49.35 ± 12.95 years. 84.8% were B27 positive. 88.6% met New York criteria. 35.6% suffered uveitis at some time during their evolution. As for tobacco, 68.2% were non-smokers, 12.9% were former smokers and 18.9% were active smokers. 6.8% of the sample presented positivity for the orosomucoid and 37.8% alterations in calprotectin (of which 24.2% were undetermined and 13.6% suspected of inflammatory bowel disease). Only 25% of patients had elevated CRP levels and 11.4% of patients had BASDAI&gt; 4. 50.8% of our sample had optimal levels of Vitamin D while 49.2% were at low values.A statistically significant association was observed between hypovitaminosis D and elevated CRP levels (p 0.038). In our sample we found no statistical association with uveitis or with markers of subclinical inflammatory activity.Conclusion:-Almost half of the patients in our sample have hypovitaminosis D which is probably attributable to the meteorological characteristics of León region.-Low levels of vitamin D are statistically significantly related to higher levels of CRP and, therefore, with greater disease activity.-No significant relationship was found with uveitis or with a higher risk of subclinical intestinal inflammation in our simple.References:[1]Castro Domínguez F, Salman Monte TC, Blanch Rubió J. Abstract:
BackgroundNowadays, the COVID-19 and its complications are considered an important medical issue with aggravated medico-social outcomes, both at the worldwide scale, and in terms of various individual countries. Despite the recent ASBMR, AACE, Endocrine Society, ECTS and NOF recommendations according to osteoporosis management in the era of COVID-19 the influence of antiosteoporotic drugs on disease incidence and severity continue to be studied [1, 2].ObjectivesThe purpose of this study was to assess the COVID-19 risk for the patients receiving the parenteral bisphosphonate or Denosumab treatment, and the severity of its course in the systemic osteoporosis patients.MethodsWe performed the phone survey and studied the results of 195 patients (92 % women; mean age – 62.7±10.8 years, height – 161.0±8.0 cm, body weight – 68.9±12.3 kg) with systemic osteoporosis depending on the current use of parenteral antiresorptive drugs (Zoledronic acid, Ibandronic acid, or Denosumab, n=125) and compared the results with patients with osteoporosis who did not use any antiosteoporotic drugs previously (n=70). The mean duration of antiosteoporotic treatment did not vary across the groups, accounting for 15 [9-27] months. Prior to the beginning of the antiosteoporotic therapy, all the patients had a confirmed diagnosis of osteoporosis at the Ukrainian scientific-medical Center of osteoporosis.ResultsWe did not reveal any significant differences in the COVID-19 frequency and severity depending on the presence and type of parenteral antiosteoporotic therapy. Additionally, there were no differences depending on patients’ age of sex, obesity presence, and other osteoporosis risk factors. The risk of COVID-19 in the patients with systemic osteoporosis did not differ depending on antiresorptive drug use, amounting (Odd Ratio (OR) 95 % CI) to 1.1 (0.6-2.0), or on the use of the definite antiosteoporotic drug (for the Zoledronic acid - 0.9 (0.4-2.0), the Ibandronic acid - 1.1 (0.5-2.3), and for the Denosumab - 1.6 (0.5-5.2).ConclusionOur study did not reveal any significant differences in the COVID-19 frequency and severity depending on the presence and type of parenteral antiosteoporotic therapy. We conclude that parenteral antiosteoporotic drugs (Zoledronic acid, Ibandronic acid, or Denosumab) do not have an influence on COVID-19 frequency and severity and can be recommended for the continuation of treatment of patients with osteoporosis.References[1]Joint Guidance on Osteoporosis Management in the Era of COVID-19 from the ASBMR, AACE, Endocrine Society, ECTS &amp; NOF. https://www.asbmr.org/about/statement-detail/joint-guidance-on-osteoporosis-management-covid-19.[2]Blanch-Rubió J, Soldevila-Domenech N, Tío L, et al (2020) Influence of anti-osteoporosis treatments on the incidence of COVID-19 in patients with non-inflammatory rheumatic conditions. Abstract:
`Titan' red raspberry (Rubis idaeus L.), highly susceptible to root rot caused by Phytophthora fragariae Hickman var. rubi Wilcox &amp; Duncan (syns. P. erythroseptica Pethyb., “highly pathogenic” P. megasperma Drechs.), was planted in June 1990 in a silt loam naturally infested with the pathogen. Raked beds (0.36 m high) dramatically reduced disease incidence and severity relative to flatbed treatments. In contrast, metalaxyl at 372 mg·m-1 of row provided little benefit when applied to flat beds and provided consistently moderate but statistically insignificant effects when applied to raised beds. Relative to the flat bed system, primocane vigor was increased in 1992 by 16%, 190%, and 224% in the flat bed plus metalaxyl, raised bed, and raised bed plus metalaxyl treatments, respectively; total yields were increased by 7%, 231%, and 272% with these same respective treatment. The results indicate that raised-bed planting systems can provide substantial control of phytophthora root rot of red raspberries even when highly susceptible varieties are grown on otherwise marginal sites. Metalaxyl appears more effective as a supplement rather than substitute for raised beds under such conditions. Chemical name used: N- (2,6-dimethylphenyl) -N- (methoxyacetyl)alanine methyl ester (metalaxyl).

Abstract:
The Rubia genus includes major groups of medicinal plants such as Rubia cordifolia, Rubia tinctorum, and Rubia akane. They contain anthraquinones (AQs), particularly alizarin and purpurin, which have pharmacological effects that are anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer, hemostatic, antibacterial, and more. Alizarin and purpurin have been utilized as natural dyes for cotton, silk, and wool fabrics since the dawn of time. These substances have been used in the cosmetics and food industries to color products. The amount of AQs in different Rubia species is minimal. In order to produce these compounds, researchers have established cell and organ cultures. Investigations have been conducted into numerous chemical and physical parameters that affect the biomass and accumulation of secondary metabolites in a cell, callus, hairy root, and adventitious root suspension cultures. This article offers numerous techniques and approaches used to produce biomass and secondary metabolites from the Rubia species. Additionally, it has been emphasized that cells can be grown in bioreactor cultures to produce AQs.
