Abstract:
C++ is one of the most commonly used programming languages in academic and professional environments. Java is a relatively new language that is rapidly gaining popularity and acceptance. Java's designers claim that Java offers all the functionality of C++ and more. Java's syntax is similar to C++, but Java code is not compatible with C++. Java offers platform independence and better support for internet-oriented applications. Platform independence may come at a price. A major concern regarding any language is performance.This thesis looks at the performance of Java and C++. A comparison is made of C++ and Java runtimes for a simple algorithm (bubblesort). It covers the differences in compilation of an application developed in C++ versus an application developed in Java. It reports the execution time of an algorithm written in both languages.

The Diploma thesis deals with the Microsoft Language Server Protocol. The theoretical part describes the architecture and protocol properties, the LSP implementation within the Eclipse and VS Code development environments and a procedure for creating a new plug-in in the Eclipse and VS Code. In addition, the theoretical part familiarizes with Apache Camel project and implementation of Camel Language server and Camel Language clients for extended language support. The last mention in the theory is about the Yeoman tool for scaffolding a new projects. Abstract:
The present study explores the impact that task-supported language teaching (TSLT) and task- based language teaching (TBLT) have on the acquisition of case forms and verbs of motion in Russian and on learners’ written and oral production. From a methodological point of view, the study follows a pre-test – immediate post-test – delayed post-test design. Data have been obtained from first and second year students of the University of Barcelona (n=54) with a low level of proficiency in Russian. Each learner was assigned to a task-supported (TS) or task-based (TB) group and received 14 hours of corresponding treatment. The TSLT treatment for the first year students focused on the use of prepositions and case forms, and the treatment for the second year students involved the Russian verbs of motion with and without prefixes. For the TBLT treatment, the acquisition of the same linguistic items was analysed. These items were present in the tasks designed for the experiment. Data were obtained by means of three grammar tests (fill in the blanks, multiple choice and grammaticality judgment tests), a written task which required learners to write a letter / an email to a friend and two oral tasks (room description and map task). Measures include the target-like use of prepositions, case forms and verbs of motion in the grammar tests and in oral and written production, the number of errors per words for general accuracy, the number of clauses per T-unit and the mean length of clause for syntactic complexity, Guiraud’s Index of lexical richness for lexical complexity, and speech rate for oral fluency. Statistical tests related to the use of prepositions and case forms show that both approaches provided positive results in the immediate post-test, however, neither task-supported nor task-based treatment led to a significant improvement in the long-term perspective. On the other hand, participants in both groups demonstrated a significant improvement in the target-like use of verbs of motion produced in their oral and written performance and used in their grammar tests. In written production, learners’ syntactic complexity measured by means of clauses per T- unit and lexical complexity significantly increased after the treatment, whereas phrasal complexity (mean length of clause) did not change over time. Written accuracy significantly improved in both groups immediately after the treatment. However, learners in the TB group maintained this improvement three months after the treatment, whereas the accuracy of learners in the TS group decreased to the level they had before the treatment. In oral production, learners in both groups significantly improved their general accuracy in the performance of the map task. Lexical complexity and fluency improved in both oral tasks. As for syntactic complexity, no changes were found in any of the tasks. The comparison of the effects that the two types of treatment have had on different aspects of learners’ production reveals that participants in the TS and the TB groups have not significantly differed on accuracy, syntactic complexity and fluency of their oral and written performance. Task-supported and task-based treatments also had a similar effect on accuracy in the use of Russian prepositions and case forms. However, learners in the TB group have showed significantly better results than learners in the TS group as far as lexical complexity and the target-like use of verbs of motion are concerned.
El presente estudio explora el impacto en la adquisición del ruso como lengua extranjera de TSLT (Task-supported language teaching) y TBLT (Task-based language teaching). El objeto de análisis es la adquisición de los casos y de los verbos de movimiento en la producción oral y escrita en los parámetros de la complejidad, corrección y fluidez. El estudio experimental sigue el diseño de pre-test ‒ post-test inmediato ‒ post-test diferido. Los datos han sido obtenidos a partir del trabajo con estudiantes de primer y segundo curso de la Universidad de Barcelona (n=54) con un nivel elemental de competencia en lengua rusa. Dos grupos de estudiantes han trabajado con la metodología TSLT y otros dos con TBLT. Cada uno de los 4 grupos ha recibido 14 horas de formación. Los datos analizados se han obtenido a partir de tests gramaticales (espacios en blanco, selección múltiple y tests de gramaticalidad), una tarea escrita consistente en escribir una carta a un amigo, y dos tareas orales (la descripción de una habitación y una Map task). El análisis estadístico de la adquisición de las preposiciones y las formas declinadas muestra que tanto con TSLT como TBLT se consiguen resultados satisfactorios en el post-test inmediato, pero no en el post-test diferido. En cambio, independientemente del tipo de instrucción, los participantes sí han demostrado progresos significativos en su competencia de los verbos de movimiento. En la producción escrita, la complejidad sintáctica medida en proposiciones por T-unit y la complejidad léxica aumentan significativamente después de la instrucción. La corrección mejora significativamente en ambos grupos en el post-test inmediato y en el post-test diferido del grupo TBLT. En la producción oral, los estudiantes de ambos grupos mejoran su corrección en la tarea Map task, la complejidad léxica y fluidez en ambas tareas orales, pero no consiguen progresos significativos en lo que respecta a la complejidad sintáctica en ninguna de las dos tareas. La comparación de los dos tipos de instrucción muestra que los estudiantes de los grupos TBLT consiguen mejores resultados que los de TSLT en lo que se refiere a complejidad léxica y verbos de movimiento.

Abstract:
This thesis describes the Omnibus language and its supporting framework of tools. Omnibus is an object-oriented language which is superficially similar to the Java programming language but uses value semantics for objects and incorporates a behavioural interface specification language. Specifications are defined in terms of a subset of the query functions of the classes for which a frame-condition logic is provided. The language is well suited to the specification of modelling types and can also be used to write implementations. An overview of the language is presented and then specific aspects such as subtleties in the frame-condition logic, the implementation of value semantics and the role of equality are discussed. The challenges of reference semantics are also discussed. The Omnibus language is supported by an integrated verification tool which provides support for three assertion-based verification approaches: run-time assertion checking, extended static checking and full formal verification. The different approaches provide different balances between rigour and ease of use. The Omnibus tool allows these approaches to be used together in different parts of the same project. Guidelines are presented in order to help users avoid conflicts when using the approaches together. The use of the integrated verification approach to meet two key requirements of safe software component reuse, to have clear descriptions and some form of certification, are discussed along with the specialised facilities provided by the Omnibus tool to manage the distribution of components. The principles of the implementation of the tool are described, focussing on the integrated static verifier module that supports both extended static checking and full formal verification through the use of an intermediate logic. The different verification approaches are used to detect and correct a range of errors in a case study carried out using the Omnibus language. The case study is of a library system where copies of books, CDs and DVDs are loaned out to members. The implementation consists of 2278 lines of Omnibus code spread over 15 classes. To allow direct comparison of the different assertion-based verification approaches considered, run-time assertion checking, extended static checking and then full formal verification are applied to the application in its entirety. This directly illustrates the different balances between error coverage and ease-of-use which the approaches offer. Finally, the verification policy system is used to allow the approaches to be used together to verify different parts of the application.

Abstract:
This study investigates translation choices and challenges in the translation of two training guides focused on running. It tests the validity of Reiss’s text-type theory in the translation of cultural aspects. Furthermore, the study discusses to what extent equivalence can be reached when translating an aesthetic language and finally, it comments on some characteristics of typical runners’ language. The results show that Reiss’s text type theory is not sufficient to guide the translation of cultural differences in the SL and TL but an analysis on phrasal and lexical level is also needed, where Koller’s equivalence relations and Newmark’s communicative translation are applicable. The results also show that figurative language is indeed possible to translate in these kinds of texts, where among others compensation proves a useful strategy. Equivalence on all levels of the text, however, is not always possible to reach. Finally, the findings of a special runners’ language were rather limited, although some examples indicating a presence of a runners’ jargon were found.

Abstract:
In this report we evaluate different techniques for increasing the performance of an interpreted processing language in a telecommunication system, called Billing Gateway R8. We have implemented a prototype in which we first translate the language into C++ code, and then compile it using a C++ compiler. In our prototype we experienced a threefold increase in processing throughput, compared to the original system, when running on a Symmetric Multi Processor with four CPU:s that were under full load. The prototype also showed better scalability than Billing Gateway R8, due to less use of dynamic memory management.

Abstract:
Multi-stage programming is a valuable technique for improving the performance of computer programs through run-time optimization. Current implementations of multi-stage programming do not support run-time type introspection, which is a significant feature of modern object-oriented platforms such as Java and C#. This is unfortunate because many programs that use type introspection in these languages could be improved with multi-staging programming. The aim of this research is to investigate the interaction between multi-stage programming and object-oriented type introspection. This is done by the invention of a new programming language that is a multi-stage extension to C#. The language is capable of expressing traditional multi-stage programs as well as a new style of multi-stage programs that incorporate type introspection, most notably polytypic algorithms such as object serialization. A compiler for the language is implemented and freely available. The language is significant because it is the first object-oriented, multi-stage language; the first attempt to combine type introspection with multi-stage programming; and the first exploration of polytypic programming in a multi-stage context.

Abstract:
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) estimates that tens of millions of homeless children spend a large portion of their lives on the streets, where they are exposed to all forms of abuse and exploitation. In Brazil, approximately eight million children are in this situation. Despite the prolonged and increasing gravity of this situation, there are few and only partial studies showing how these children have been represented in Brazilian literature. Brazilian authors ignored the problem almost completely until the decade of 1960, with the exception of Jorge Amado and a few others. Since then João Antônio, Rubem Fonseca, Clarice Lispector, José Louzeiro, Chico Buarque de Holanda, and Paulo Lins, among many others have chosen to make street children characters in fiction. Many of the greater successes in Brazilian literature during the past years directly or indirectly address the theme of street children. This thesis documents the gradual inclusion of the sociological phenomenon of street children—so long ignored in Brazilian society and even more so in imaginative literature—into the Brazilian literary canon and suggests that the consciousness-raising activity of these writers is a profound contribution to any eventual solution to this problematic demographic. Our review is a historical one, beginning with the first years of Brazilian colonization and running through to the twenty-first century.

Uvod: Hronični subduralni hematom (HSDH) je učestala i nezanemarljiva traumatska/netraumatska intrakranijalna lezija, naročito kod pacijenata starije životne dobi. Simptomi pacijenata sa HSDH su raznovrsni i često pogrešno protumačeni i lečeni. Zbog navedenih činjenica, HSDH predstavlja veliki izazov u dijagnostici i terapiji. Različiti autori ističu značaj radioloških parametara tokom dijagnostike ovog oboljenja i povezanost sa kliničkom slikom I neurološkim statusom pacijenta, pa je ovo istraživanje bilo usmereno u preciznoj evaluaciji pomenutih parametara, njihovoj prediktivnoj vrednosti i uticaju na prognozu ishoda lečenja. Cilj: Generalni cilj istraživanja je bio da se ispita učestalost pacijenata sa hroničnim subduralnim hematomom na teritoriji Vojvodine u periodu od tri godine; da se analizira starosna dob pacijenata, polna distribucija oboljenja, uticaj komorbiditeta ili faktora rizika na nastanak HSDH; prisustvo ili odsustvo traume koja je doprinela nastanku HSDH, vremenski interval od traume do pojave simpotoma ili znakova bolesti i da se omogući praćenje efekta terapije pacijenata sa ovim oboljenjem. Specifični ciljevi su obuhvatili: 1. Da se utvrde parametri kompjuterizovane tomografije koji imaju prediktivni značaj u pozitivnom ishodu lečenja pacijenata sa hroničnim subduralnim hematomom. 2. Da se utvrde klinički parametri koji imaju prediktivni značaj u pozitivnom ishodu lečenja pacijenata sa hroničnim subduralnim hematomom. 3. Da se dobije model sa najvećom specifičnošću i senzitivnošću za predikciju ishoda lečenja, kombinacijom kliničkih i parametrara kompjuterizovane tomografije kod pacijenata sa hroničnim subduralnim hematomom. Materijal i metode: Istraživanje je obavljeno kao prospektivna trogodišnja studija u periodu od aprila 2010. do aprila 2013. godine u Kliničkom Centru Vojvodine- Centru za radiologiju i Klinici za neurohirurgiju i obuvatila je 83 pacijenata sa dijagnozom hroničnog subduralnog hematoma. Svi ispitanici su dijagnostikovani upotrebom kompjuterizovane tomografije glave (CT) i lečeni na Klinici za neurohirurgiju KCV. Izvori podataka su celokupna medicinska dokumentacija svakog pacijenta od perioda prve hospitalizacije do njihovog otpusta, a uključuje i podatke vezane za subjektivni osećaj o zdravstvenom stanju koje su pacijenti usmeno izneli šest meseci nakon hospitalnog otpusta. Rezultati: Rezultati istraživanja pokazuju da je Glasgow Coma Scala (GCS) tj. nivo svesti pacijenta na hospitalnom prijemu jedini parametar sa visokom prediktivnom vrednošću za klinički ishod lečenja pacijenata sa HSDH procenjen preko Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS). Preostali radiološki i klinički parametri (širina hematoma, pomeraj mediosagitalne linije, denzitet hematoma, starost pacijenta) nemaju visoku prediktivnu vrednost za klinički ishod pacijenata sa hroničnim subduralnim hematomom. Zaključak: Na osnovu grupe analiziranih pacijenata sa HSDH nije bilo moguće napraviti optimalan model za predikciju ishoda lečenja kombinujući radiološke i kliničke parametre. Pojedinačno posmatrani radiološki parametri nisu imali visoku prediktivnu vrednost za ishod lečenja pacijenata sa HSDH. Izolovan klinički parametar- GCS- je jedini visoko prediktivni faktor za ishod lečenja pacijenata sa HSDH. Kombinacija kliničkih i radioloških parametara daje visoku vrednost predviđanja kliničkog ishoda lečenja, ali samo zahvaljujući izrazito visokoj prediktivnoj vrednosti GCS. Iz svega navedenog, kompjuterizovana tomografija (CT) ima veliki značaj u ranoj dijagnostici i praćenju terapije pacijenata sa HSDH, ali CT parametri ponaosob nemaju značaj u predviđanju ishoda lečenja.
Introduction: Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is common traumatic/no traumatic intracranial lesion, especially in older patients. Symptomatology of this disease is variable and often is misdiagnosed and treated with specially challenges in diagnostic and therapy. Different authors pointed on importance of radiological parameters during diagnostic of this disease and connections with clinic and neurological status in patients with chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH), so this thesis was directed to evaluate radiological and clinical parameters of CSDHs and to show their predictive values and their significance on patient’s outcome. Aim: General aim of this thesis was to examine frequency of patients with chronic subdural hematoma in Vojvodina, during the period of three years, to analyze the age of population with CSDHs, the gender distribution, an impact of comorbidity or risk factors for patients with CSDHs, the presence or absence of trauma which has contributed to CSDH, to determine time interval from trauma to appearance of symptoms and signs of disease, monitoring the effect of therapy. Specific aims were: 1. To determine clinical parameters with a positive predictive significance on patients outcome 2. To determine radiological parameters with a positive predictive significance on patients outcome 3. To determine optimal prognostic model with high specificity and sensitivity, using combination of radiological and clinical parameters for positive prediction outcome. Material and methods: The study was performed as three-year prospective study from April 2010 to April 2013 in Clinical Centre of Vojvodina, Centre for Radiology and Clinic of Neurosurgery and includes 83 patients with chronic subdural hematoma. All patients were diagnosed using computed tomography of the brain (CT scan) and all were treated in Clinic of Neurosurgery (KCV). Data sources included the medical records of each patient from the time of first hospitalization to period of their discharge and included data related to the subjective feeling of the health that patients verbally present six months after hospital discharge. Results: The results showed that the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) - a level of consciousness of the patient on the hospital admission was the only parameter with a high predictive value for clinical outcome of patients with CSDH assessed through Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS). Other evaluated radiological and clinical parameters (width of the CSDH, mediosagital line displacement, a density of the CSDH, the age of the patient) did not have high predictive values for the clinical outcome in patients with chronic subdural hematoma. Conclusion: Based on the analyzed group of patients with CSDH it was not possible to make optimal predictive model for outcome by combining radiological and clinical parameters. Radiographic parameters did not have high predictive values for treatment outcome in patients with CSDH. Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) is the only highly predictive factor for treatment outcome in patients with CSDH. The combination of clinical and radiological parameters gives high predictive value for clinical outcome, but only because of extremely high predictive value of GCS. Therefore, computed tomography (CT) is of great importance in early diagnosis and therapy monitoring of patients with CSDH, but CT parameters did not have the high predictive values for the patient’s clinical outcome.

Domain Specific Modeling (DSM) is a methodology to provide programs or system’s specification at higher level of abstraction, making use of domain concepts instead of low level programming details. To support this approach, we need to have enough expressive power in terms of those domain concepts, which means that we need to develop new languages , usually termed Domain Specific Languages (DSLs). An approach to execute specifications developed using DSLs goes by applying a model transformation technique to produce a specification in another language. These transformation techniques are applied sucessively until the specification reaches a language with an implemented run-time. The language named Concurrent Object-Oriented Petri Nets (CO-OPN) is being used successfully as a target language for such model transformation techniques. CO-OPN is an object-oriented formal language for specifying concurrent systems, that separates coordination from computational tasks. CO-OPN offers mechanisms to define the system structure and behavior, and like DSLs, relieves the developer from stipulate how that structure and behavior are attained by the underlying system. The currently available code generator for CO-OPN only produces sequential code, despite of this language potential of expressing specifications rich in concurrent behavior. The generated sequential code can be executed either in a Sequential Run-Time or in the step simulator, which is part of CO-OPN Builder IDE. The generation of sequential code turns out to be an adversity to CO-OPN application since concurrent specifications cannot be executed in parallel and therefore this languages potential is not fully exploited. This dissertation aims at filling this CO-OPN’s execution gap, through the development of a Parallel Run-Time. The new Run-Time is achieved through the adaptation of the sequential code generator and actual execution support mechanisms. In this manner, all concurrent specifications that target CO-OPN benefit from thread safe code, ready for execution in parallel and distributed environments, relieving the developer from delving into parallel programming details.By guaranteeing a safe execution environment, CO-OPN becomes an alternative to the way parallel software is nowadays developed.

Akutni pankreatitis predstavlja zbirni pojam dinamičkih, lokalnih i sistemskih patofizioloških procesa nastalih iznenadnim prodorom aktivnih litičkih pankreasnih enzima u žlezdani parenhim. Cilj istraživanja je da se Utvrditi senzitivnost difuzione sekvence magnetne rezonance (DWI) radi utvrđivanja morfoloških promena parenhima kod akutnog pankreatitisa. Poređenje difuzione mape i difuzionog koeficijenta kod pacijenata sa akutnim pankreatitisom i kod pacijenata sa morfološki urednim parenhimom pankreasa na magnetnoj rezonanci. Utvrditi da li postoje statistički značajne razlike difuzionog koeficijenta kod pacijenata sa akutnim pankreatitisom u odnosu na pol. Utvrditi da li postoje statistički značajne razlike difuzionog koeficijenta kod pacijenata sa akutnim pankreatitisom u odnosu na godine. Odrediti prelomnu tačku difuzionog koeficijenta kod pacijenata sa akutnim pankreatitisom. Studija je bila prospektivnog karaktera i obuhvatilo je 30 ispitanika sa morfološki urednim parenhimom pankreasa i 30 sa dijagnozom akutnog pankreatitisa unutar 72 sata od početka simptoma. Svi pacijenti su pregledani magnetnom rezonancom u Centru za radiologiju, Kliničkog Centra Vojvodine. Rezultati ukazuju da postoje razlike difuzionog koeficijenta kod pacijenata sa akutnim pankreatitisom i kontrolne grupe. Takođe smo dokazali da difuzioni koeficijent zavisi od pola i starosti i utvrdili smo prelomnu tačku difuzije za rano dijagnostikovanje akutnog pankreatitisa.
Acute pancreatitis is defined as cumulative term of dynamic local and general pathophysiological processes caused by sudden penetration of active lithic pancreatic enzymes in the glandular parenchyma. Goal of this research is to note the changes (sensitivity) in values of diffusion weighted images (DWI) in acute pancreatitis and to determine morphological changes in glandular parenchyma of pancreas. Comparation of DWI between patients with acute pancreatitis and patients with normal pancreatic parenchyma based on magnetic resonance (MRI). We also want to determine whether there were statistically significant differences of DWI in patients with acute pancreatitis in relation to sex and age. One of our goals also was to determine breakpoint of DWI as a sure sign of acute pancreatitis. This was prospective study and included 30 patients with morphologically healthy parenchyma of the pancreas (control group) and 30 with the diagnosis of acute pancreatitis – in first 72 hours of the onset of symptoms. All patients were examined on MRI in department of Radiology of Clinical Center of Vojvodina. Our results indicate that was a big difference of DWI between patients with acute pancreatitis and control group. We prove that DWI depends on the sex and age. 1,77x10-6mm/s2 was breakpoint which indicates acute pancreatitis.

Abstract:

I denna etnografiskt baserade fallstudie av skriftbruk undersöks skrivhändelser som äger rum och texter som produceras i ett tvåspråkigt, svensk-kurdiskt hem. Forskningsfältet New Literacy Studies och teoribildningen kring genrer som socialt konstruerade konventioner utgör teoretiska utgångspunkter för undersökningen.

Materialet består av 169 texter som bedöms höra till 34 genrer / delgenrer. Texterna har adressater inom åtta olika domäner och den största gruppen av texter är adresserade till en person inom familjen. De allra flesta texterna är skrivna på svenska. Engelska används i genrer med anknytning till studier, undervisning eller i social kommunikation med familjen. Kurdiska förekommer endast i texter adresserade till familj eller släkt och vänner.

Familjemedlemmarna har endast ett fåtal syften med sina texter och genrer gemensamma. Vera som är tio år skriver variationsrikt vad gäller genre och hennes texter är ofta kopplade till lek eller avkoppling. Kamals skrivhändelser uppvisar relativt liten variation och han skriver tämligen få och korta texter. Faktorerna kön, ett icke-akademiskt yrke och det faktum att han har svenska som andraspråk kan ligga bakom detta. Annika skriver betydligt fler texter än Kamal och Vera och de flesta av dem har en koppling till hennes arbete som lärare eller till hennes universitetsstudier. Hon skriver främst texter med ett kognitivt syfte.

De flesta av texterna har en kulturellt etablerad genrebenämning. Endast en genre, den s.k. toalettkommunikationen, antas vara specifik för hemdomänen.

Abstract:

NestStep is a collection of parallel extensions to existing programming languages. These extensions supports a shared memory model and nested parallelism. NestStep is based the Bulk-Synchronous Programming model. Most of the communication of data in NestStep takes place in a

combine/commit phase, which is essentially a reduction followed by a broadcast.

The primary aim of the project that this thesis is based on was to develop a runtime system for NestStep-C, the extensions for the C programming language. The secondary aim was to find which tree structure among a selected few is the best for communicating data in the combine/commit phase.

This thesis includes information about NestStep, how to interface with the NestStep runtime system, some example applications and benchmarks for determining the best tree structure. A binomial tree structure and trees similar to it was empirically found to yield the best performance.

Abstract In my thesis, I have studied Tampere as a Swedish language island from a sociolinguistic perspective with Bernard Spolsky’s approach to language sociology as the theoretical framework. By language policy I mean language planning efforts and various forms of both conscious and unconscious linguistic practices which become visible as practices in everyday life on different levels of society. Of all the approximately twenty Swedish clubs, associations and institutions in Tampere, I have focused on two important spaces, namely the institutions Svenska samskolan i Tammerfors (the Swedish school) and Tammerfors svenska församling (the Swedish congregation). The aim of the study is to find out what kinds of practices, processes and choices are negotiated in these language island communities. I examine the communities both on an institutional and an individual level. My goal is to describe the kind of a language policy the institutions and individuals create and apply in their daily activities. The study is descriptive and aims to illustrate the sociocultural reality of the Swedish language on both the macro and micro levels in a Finnish-speaking majority context. In the study, I have applied triangulation on the levels of both method and material. I have used various types of data such as questionnaires, field notes, documents, written works, webpages and thematic interviews due to the varying types of the institutions and focus groups. The different materials studied required the application of both quantitative and qualitative methods of analysis. In the case of open questions and thematic interviews I have applied content analysis, leading to a process of abstraction. The results of the study show that the Swedish institutions Svenska samskolan i Tammerfors and Tammerfors svenska församling have over the course of time gone through a change in language policy. This has led to the application of varied linguistic practices in everyday life. Characteristic for the language policy in the Swedish school in the 2010s is language awareness and openness. Characteristic for both institutions studied is interaction between language maintenance efforts and continuous accommodation between Swedish and Finnish in various communicative practices
Tiivistelmä Väitöskirjassani olen tutkinut Tamperetta ruotsalaisena kielisaarekkeena kielisosiologisesta perspektiivistä käyttämällä teoreettisena viitekehyksenä Bernard Spolskyn kolmea kielipoliittista komponenttia. Kielipolitiikalla tarkoitan tietoisia kielen suunnitteluun liittyviä panostuksia sekä erilaisia tietoisia ja tiedostamattomia kielellisiä toimintoja, jotka näyttäytyvät erilaisina arjen käytäntöinä yhteiskunnan eri tasoilla. Runsaasta kahdestakymmenestä ruotsinkielisestä kerhosta, yhdistyksestä ja instituutiosta olen tarkastellut kahta merkittävää ruotsinkielistä tilaa, nimittäin Tampereen ruotsalaista koulua (Svenska samskolan i Tammerfors) ja Tampereen ruotsalaista seurakuntaa (Tammerfors svenska församling). Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvittää, millaisia kielellisiä käytänteitä, prosesseja ja valintoja näissä kielisaarekeyhteisöissä muodostuu. Tarkastelen yhteisöjä instituution ja yksilön tasolla. Kiinnostukseni kohteena on se, millaista kielipolitiikkaa sekä instituutiot että yksilöt luovat ja soveltavat päivittäisessä toiminnassaan. Tutkimus on deskriptiivinen ja sen tarkoituksena on kuvailla ruotsinkielistä sosiokulttuurista todellisuutta makro- ja mikrotasolla suomenkielisessä enemmistökontekstissa. Olen soveltanut tutkimuksessa sekä menetelmä- että aineistotriangulaatiota. Tutkimuskohteiden erilaisuudesta johtuen olen käyttänyt tutkimusaineistoina kyselylomakkeita, kenttämuistiinpanoja, asiakirjoja, kirjallisia teoksia, verkkosivuja ja teemahaastatteluja. Aineistot edellyttivät sekä kvantitatiivisten että kvalitatiivisten analyysimenetelmien käyttöä. Avoimiin kysymyksiin sekä teemahaastatteluihin olen soveltanut sisällönanalyysiä ja abstrahointia. Tutkimustulokset osoittavat, että ruotsalaiset instituutiot Svenska samskolan i Tammerfors ja Tammerfors svenska församling ovat kielipolitiikan näkökulmasta tarkasteltuina muuttuneet aikojen saatossa. Tämä on johtanut vaihteleviin kielellisiin käytänteihin, joita arjessa sovelletaan. Kielitietoisuus ja avoimuus ovat ominaisia piirteitä Svenska samskolanin kielipolitiikalle 2010-luvulla. Tunnusomaista molemmille instituutioille on vuorovaikutus, joka vallitsee yhtäältä kielen säilyttämiseen liittyvien panostusten ja toisaalta erilaisissa viestinnällisissä tilanteissa tapahtuvan ruotsin ja suomen kielen akkommodaation välillä
Abstrakt I denna avhandling har jag granskat Tammerfors som svensk språkö i ett språksociologiskt perspektiv enligt Bernard Spolskys tre komponenter av språkpolicy som teoretisk referensram. Med språkpolicy avser jag medvetna språkplaneringsinsatser och olika former av både medvetna och omedvetna språkliga handlingar som avtecknas som praktiker i vardagen på olika nivåer i samhället. Av de ett drygt tjugotal svenska klubbar, föreningar och institutioner har jag lagt fokus på två betydande svenska rum, nämligen institutionerna Svenska samskolan i Tammerfors och Tammerfors svenska församling. Mitt syfte är att utreda vad som är kännetecknande för de språkliga praktiker, processer och val som konstrueras i dessa språkögemenskaper. Dels studerar jag gemenskaperna som institutioner och dels individerna. Jag är intresserad av hurdan språkpolicy institutionerna och individerna skapar och tillämpar i sin dagliga verksamhet. Forskningen är deskriptiv och syftar således till att beskriva den sociokulturella verkligheten gällande svenska språket på makro- och mikronivå i en finskspråkig majoritetskontext. I undersökningen har jag tillämpat både metod- och materialtriangulering. På grund av institutionernas och fokusgruppernas olika karaktär har jag använt mig av olika delmaterial som frågeformulär, fältanteckningar, handlingar, skriftliga verk, webbsidor och temaintervjuer. Det varierande materialet gav upphov till tillämpning av både kvantitativa och kvalitativa analysmetoder. På de öppna frågorna har jag tillämpat innehållsanalys som jag också använt i analysen av temaintervjuerna där jag tillämpat abstrahering. Undersökningsresultaten visar att de svenska institutionerna, Svenska samskolan i Tammerfors och Tammerfors svenska församling har förändrats genom tiderna i fråga om språkpolicy som lett till varierande språkliga praktiker som tillämpas i verksamheten. Svenska samskolans språkpolicy på 2010-talet präglas av språkmedvetenhet och öppenhet. Kännetecknande för båda institutionerna är ett samspel mellan å ena sidan språkbevarande insatser och å andra sidan ackommodation mellan finska och svenska i olika kommunikativa praktiker

Resumo: Este estudo etnográfico teve como propósito a observação e reflexão sobre as brincadeiras de crianças nas ruas, como também as realizadas no cotidiano de um jardim infantil na cidade da Praia, capital de Cabo Verde - África. A pertinência deste estudo se insere no coletivo de produções acadêmicas com criticas ao colonialismo, que vem sendo empreendidas no Brasil e em nível internacional sobre infâncias e crianças, pequenas e grandes, fundamentadas nos referenciais teóricos da Sociologia da Infância na busca incessante de notar as crianças como sujeitos de direito, produtoras de cultura, e protagonistas da construção social, histórica e cultural. A pesquisa envolveu crianças de diversas idades, com enfoque para as de zero a seis anos. Dentre os procedimentos metodológicos adotados para análises constam: documentos escritos, entre eles, poemas e textos literários, no intuito de compreender a infância caboverdiana a partir das múltiplas representações sociais; entrevistas (história oral) com homens e mulheres caboverdianos sobre suas infâncias; observações nos espaços da rua e de um jardim de infância, para devidas anotações no caderno de campo; e imagens fotográficas e filmagens. Ao longo da investigação foi possível observar que a rua constitui-se também como espaço de educação, onde crianças de idades diferentes interagem reproduzindo, inventando, imitando e produzindo as culturas infantis. Essas ações se entrecruzam com o pertencimento de origem - língua materna (crioulo caboverdiano), música, gastronomia, dança, contexto geográfico, e outros artefatos ressignificados num encontro entre o novo e o legado deixado por gerações anteriores. Com isso verifica-se que culturas infantis denotam uma hibridação nas diversas formas em que meninos e meninas apropriam-se de repertórios de brinquedos e brincadeiras, universalmente conhecidos. A rua torna-se, então, um dos lugares privilegiado de socialização de crianças pequenas em Cabo Verde, estejam elas participando ou não, de jogos e de brincadeiras na interação com os pares, crianças maiores e adultos, e também, sozinhas. A presença de crianças com menos de seis anos, bebês, confirmou a hipótese inicial de que elas estariam na rua, ainda que no colo de alguém. O espaço da rua, de acordo com a pesquisa, se evidencia como espaço da resistência para os pequenos que por vezes, em jogos e brincadeiras são preteridos pelas crianças maiores em virtude da idade, tamanho ou destreza física, mas que nem por isso deixam de usufruir desse espaço. Com relação ao jardim de infância, a pesquisa revelou que, com crianças dos quatro aos cinco anos, a cultura se manifesta na construção de ações com significados partilhados, mesmo sob o controle dos adultos, demonstrando a coexistência de relações de poder, conflitos, solidariedade entre os pares nas suas reproduções e criações. Em suma, é possível, a partir deste estudo na África, afirmar concordando com pesquisas realizadas em outros continentes, que é na produção das culturas infantis que as crianças entre elas, e com os adultos e adultas formulam e mostram sua interpretação da sociedade que as cercam.

Abstract: The purpose of this ethnographic study is to observe and reflect on the games that are played by children in the streets, as well as those played in a kindergarten in Praia, capital city of Cape Verde, Africa. The pertinence of this study is based on the group of academic productions that criticize the colonialism that has been carried out in Brazil, and around the world, related to childhood and children, young or older, based on theoretical references of Sociology of Childhood in the continuous search to identify the children as right-holders, who produce culture and who play a leading role in social, historical, and cultural construction. This survey has included children of different ages, especially those between zero and six years old. The methodological procedures adopted for the analysis are: written documents such as poems and literary texts, in order to understand Cape Verdean childhood from the several social representations; interviews (oral history) with Cape Verdean women and men about their childhood; observations in the street and in a kindergarten, written down in the notebook; and pictures and films. Throughout the survey, it was possible to observe that the streets are also an educational place where children of different ages can interact, reproduce, create, imitate, and produce childhood cultures. These actions cross mutually with original belonging - mother tongue (cape Verdean creole), music, gastronomy, dance, geographical context, and other re-significant artefacts where new things meets the legacy of past generations. Therefore, it is possible to verify that childhood cultures denote an interbreeding in the different ways that girls and boys catch hold of the universally known repertories of toys and plays. The street becomes a privileged place for young children socialization in Cape Verde, even participating or not, a place of games and plays, a place to interact with the partners, older children and adults, and also alone. The presence of children under six (babies) has confirmed the initial hypothesis: that they would be in the streets, even carried by someone else. According to the survey, the street is a place of resistance for those small ones that sometimes are excluded by older children due to their age, height, or physical skill. However this does not stop them from enjoying this space. With regard to kindergarten, the survey has proved that, in relation to children between four and five years old, the culture is revealed in the construction of actions with shared meanings, even when controlled by adults, revealing the coexistence of relations of power, conflicts, and solidarity between the partners in their reproduction and creation. To sum up, from this study in Africa, it is possible to confirm and agree with the surveys carried out in other continents that it is in the production of childhood cultures that the kids, and with the adults, create and show their interpretation of the society that surround them.

This paper explores the discourses of emigration in a South African daily newspaper from 1988 to 2001, and discusses the implications of these discourses on the way in which emigration is constructed within South African society In this paper, Potter and Wetherell 's (1987) approach to discourse analysis is utilized. It makes use of interpretative repertoires, to explore the functions and consequences of the discourses. The discursive framework thereby reveals the different subject positions related to nationalism, race and class. It is argued that economics and notions of culture and social class, do more than provide a useful medium through which the phenomenon of emigration can be understood. They also support the affirmations of certain groups of people above others, by claiming that emigration is unpatriotic and disloyal. This paper concludes by identifying the negative connotations of media discourses in the construction of emigration and acknowledges that many alternate constructions are silenced in this matter.

Ova disertacija posvećena je istraživanju romana Grethen sa osnovnim ciljem da se ukaže na njegovu višeznačnost i višeslojnost, kao i da se interpretiraju rezultati dobijeni njegovom analizom sa određenih metodoloških polazišta.
Rad je strukturisan u šest većih celina. U poglavlju o pripovedanju ukazuje se, primenom Ženetovog pristupa narativnom diskursu, na smenjivanje nulte i interne fokalizacije, kao i na prisustvo i višestruke kombinacije mnogobrojnih tehnika predstavljanja govora i misli naratora i figura.
U poglavlju posvećenom prostoru analiziraju se unutrašnji i spoljašnji prostori, njihovi delovi i mesta radnje, tumače se njihove funkcije, kao i njihov značaj za analizu likova.
U poglavlju o vremenu ukazuje se na odlike vremenskog redosleda, narativnog tempa i frekventnosti, koje doprinose kasnijem interpretiranju romana.
Poglavlje o radnji posvećeno je analizi statičnih i dinamičnih događaja, motivaciji radnje i njenoj kompleksnosti, kao i sagledavanju ovog fenomena sa Šmitovog stanovišta uz primenu teorije mogućih svetova.
U poglavlju o figurama analiziraju se i interpretiraju najznačajniji likovi, njihov mogući razvoj i interpersonalni odnosi, kao i funkcije koje imaju u delu.
Poslednje poglavlje posvećeno je utvrđivanju (sub)žanrovskih odlika romana Grethen, te se ovo književno delo posmatra i interpretira kao istorijski, psihološki, „ženski“ roman, ali i kao roman o zločinu.

Abstract:
Ce travail s’attache à répondre à deux préoccupations majeures :

-déterminer le statut sociolinguistique du kindubile, parler des enfants de la rue de Lubumbashi appelés « shege ».

-préciser les contextes de mobilisation du kindubile par les shege ainsi que les différentes significations qu’il revêt à leurs yeux.

Il est basé sur un corpus très hétérogène: les données verbales (entretiens semi-directifs, libres, récits de vie, chansons et surnoms) et les matériaux picturaux (graffitis, tags et dessins) produits par les enfants eux-mêmes. Les analyses sont inspirées en linguistique par la pragmatique et en sociologie par l’interactionnisme symbolique, la théorie de l’acteur et du système ainsi que la théorie dispositionnaliste de Bernard Lahire.

Cette dissertation a conduit aux résultats suivants :

-le kindubile est un argot swahili. Sa grammaire est globalement identique à celle du kiswahili de Lubumbashi. La seule différence s’observe au niveau du lexique. Celui-ci, outre les procédés de création cryptique (adjonctions, suppressions, permutations et leur combinaison reste prolixe et focalisé sur certains registres seulement :la nourriture, l’argent, la débrouille, la violence et la sexualité. Ces domaines demeurent hautement significatifs à leur yeux d’autant plus qu’ils sont corrélés et indispensables à la vie de rue.

-Les enfants de la rue recourent à l’argot pour communiquer entre eux, pour un repli identitaire (ils veulent s’affirmer comme un groupe particulier et en même temps être reconnus autant que respectés comme des personnes humaines à part entière). Ils recourent également au kindubile pour crypter leur message en parlant des stupéfiants, de la sexualité ou en voulant subtiliser un bien à quelqu’un). Ils emploient aussi le kindubile comme un espace de défoulement. En effet, ils expriment leur mécontentement de la société qui les a produits mais craignant les représailles, ils préfèrent s’exprimer en argot. Ils parlent aussi kindubile pour provoquer la peur chez leur interlocuteur lorsqu’ils le jugent nécessaire.

I Sverige finns tiotusentals medeltida brev och juridiska handlingar, så kallade diplom, bevarade och publiceras löpande. Det här arbetet har som delsyfte att transkribera och översätta ett diplom som ännu inte blivit utgivet. Utöver det innehåller uppsatsen en kartläggning av de graftyper som förekommer i brevet från ett paleologiskt perspektiv. Till sist kommer en paleografisk undersökning av de två olika varianter av skrivteckenen som finns i diplomet, enrummigt ’ɑ’ (cursiva recentior) och tvårummigt ’a’ (cursiva antiquior), med syfte att undersöka om det finns tendenser och mönster i hur de två används av den så kallade MELL R-skrivaren i brytningstiden mellan de två skrifttyperna. Resultatet ger vid handen att det finns flera sådana tendenser, vilket illustrerar hur nytt och gammalt kan samexistera med olika funktioner innan det ena slutligen ersätter det andra.

Minority languages, bilingualism and linguistic integration among youth have gained a great dealof attention in research especially in times of migration, globalization and other activities crossingthe borders of nation-states. In this thesis the aim is to investigate different meanings associatedwith the mother tongue when this language is another than the majority language in the place ofresidence. This task is approached from a social geographical perspective. In the study, the termmother tongue is used in its widest sense, mostly defined by the choice of the informant. In the introduction the concept mother tongue is on the one hand, looked upon and discussedin terms of a minority language in regard to the nation state and on the other, seen as a bordercrossing transnational speech community. In this way, a wide range of meanings can be illuminated.The analytical framework is discourse analysis, inspired by the work of Potter and Wetherellamong others, in the field of discursive psychology. The empirical data is made up by the transcriptsof semi-structured interviews with 13 students at two schools in the area of Stockholm,Sweden. The result of the study is presented as five interpretative repertoires, showing the mother tongueas (1) belonging, (2) background, (3) heritage, (4) carrier and (5) everyday practice. The fiverepertoires are later analyzed for their spatial content in four spatial contexts: the national, themulticultural, the transnational and the diasporic context. They are defined and used as discursivelandscapes in which the different meanings of the repertoires are identified. The five repertoires areidentified in all spatial contexts except for the national context. The findings show that the different meanings of the mother tongue represented by a certainindividual are negotiated in sometimes quite contradictive pieces of discourse. One implication isthat a specific meaning of the language does not equal an individual’s personal attitude or belief.The students seem to be very flexible in the association of different meanings to their mother tongue.The result further shows the value of a multi-scalar approach to investigations of the socialgeography of language. The ignorance of one social or spatial context will lead to the loss of a vitalpart of the language. This is crucial when discussing the mother tongue as a minority language oras a transnational speech community. Finally, there are reasons to be attentive of putting bilingualyouth in any social or spatial trap: national, multicultural, transnational or diasporic.

Ett litet folkbibliotek kartläggs som språkligt landskap och dessutom granskas bibliotekets förmåga att vara ett socialt rum för alla åldrar inom den flerspråkiga befolkningen. Resultaten visar att det språkliga landskapet huvudsakligt består av det svenska, arabiska och engelska språket. Tyska, braille och minoritetsspråken representeras i olika grad, men i mycket mindre utsträckning. Biblioteket erbjuder sociala rum för den flerspråkiga befolkningen och skapar även digitala alternativlösningar under tiden, då biblioteket tillfälligt behöver stängas, för att begränsa smittspridningen av Covid-19.

Det svenska medlemskapet i EU har vidgat gränserna och skapat ett nytt retoriskt rum, där nivåer och sektorer och deras respektive plats i ett nytt geopolitiskt sammanhang ofta fungerar annorlunda än i folkhemmet.

Hur ser detta retoriska rum ut, om jag undersöker två journalistiska modeller, en europeisk-meridional och en anglosaxisk, med exempel från Frankrike och Sverige? Detta undersöker denna franska uppsats på magisternivå, som här erbjuds i svensk översättning. Uppsatsen lades fram vid Institutionen för språk och kultur, Linköpings Universitet, den 16 november 2006.

Frankrike anses av många i Sverige som ett modernt land, men – ack, så traditionellt… Le Nouvel Observateur är en arena där denna och andra uppfattningar går att verifiera, eftersom tidningen fortsätter att komma ut en gång i veckan sedan 1964. Moderna Tider, för sin del, var en av många svenskar uppskattad intellektuell arena under perioden 1994- 2002. Förhoppningsvis kan dessa båda tidskrifter och deras historia hjälpa oss att bättre förstå några intellektuella och journalistiska förutsättningar i ett par av Europas länder.

Other-directed emotions, both positive (e.g. love, pity, admiration) and negative (e.g. hatred, anger, disgust), play an important role in communication due to their social nature and involvement of another party. Emotive discourse regulates social encounters and triggers response in participants of such encounters. When learning a new language, one needs to be able to interpret correctly emotive discourse and, ideally, to articulate adequately one's own emotions. Therefore, it is important to know what emotion concepts exist in a given language and if they differ in any way from the speaker's first language. From the sociolinguistic point of view, other-directed discontent is extremely culture-dependent: there are strict rules of what, how and when can or should be expressed and consequently interpreted by an illocutor and reacted upon. Moreover, according to the Russian National Corpus frequency chart, emotion terms of discontent are the most frequent ones among the other-directed emotions in Russian: obida “offence/resentment” is extremely salient, only surpassed by the lexemes denoting "love", "hope", "happiness", “joy” and "fear". The present study seeks to fill the gap in studies on the conceptualisation of other-directed discontent in Russian, compared to English and Spanish. For this purpose, relevant research papers, lexicographical sources and corpora studies have been employed. The results show that power relations are crucial for the lexical choice when expressing other-directed discontent in Russian, i.e. emotion words are chosen according to the social status of both the experiencer and the causer. Moreover, there are different classifications of discontent-related words in Russian: 'rational' vs. irrational, 'expressive' vs. 'inexpressive', 'high', i.e. connected to the 'soul', and 'low', i.e. connected to the body. The comparative analysis of Russian, English and Spanish other-directed discontent has revealed both similarities and differences in the respective versions of the concept. All three languages have 'low vs. high intensity', 'external vs. internal' and 'significant vs. insignificant' dichotomies. Also metaphorical conceptualisation is similar, mostly as 'a substance in a container', although the theme of 'elements' prevails in Russian, 'hot fluid in a container' in English and 'possessed object' in Spanish. Etymology plays a certain role in conceptualisation in all three languages, especially in English (e.g. anger) and Russian (e.g. obida). In addition, differences in synonymic groups and recurrent antonyms (mir “peace” in Russian, paciencia “patience” in Spanish, and pleasure in English) reflect differences in respective naïve pictures of the world. On the morphosyntactic level, specific traits of Russian are 1) fusion with active verbs caused by conceptualisation of emotions as actions, and 2) derivation being the main means of lexical replenishment and the main salience indicator of a term. In reference to the discursive representation of other-directed discontent, the outline of the social component in the conceptual structure and the qualitative Russian, English and Spanish corpora studies resulted in the reconstruction of the subtextual discourse. The discourse is motivated by 'archaic', rural morality in Russian, which constructs the world as a common house, by patriarchal morality in Spanish, which propagates action as a sign of power, and by the rule of law in English, postulating anger as a valid means of self-assertion.
Les emocions dirigides cap als altres, tant les positives (per exemple, amor, pietat, admiració) com les negatives (per exemple odi, ràbia, fàstic), juguen un paper important a la comunicació a causa de la seva naturalesa social i l'involucrament d'un altre. El discurs emotiu regula encontres socials i provoca resposta en els participants d'aquests encontres. A l'hora d'aprendre un nou idioma, és necessari poder interpretar correctament el discurs emotiu i articular adequadament les seves emocions. Així doncs, és important per un parlant saber quins conceptes d'emocions existeixen a l'dioma en qüestió i si són diferents dels conceptes de la seva primera llengua. Des del punt de vista sociolingüístic, el descontentament dirigit cap als altres (tradicionalment anomenat anger en anglès i en la recerca internacional) és extremadament dependent de la cultura: hi ha regles estrictes sobre com, quan i què es pot expressar. A més, segons el Corpus Nacional Rus, les paraules del descontentament són les més freqüents entre les emocions dirigides cap als altres, només superades pels lexemes amb significat “amor”, “esperança”, “felicitat”, “alegria” i “por”. El treball present té com a objectiu estudiar la conceptualització del descontentament dirigit cap als altres en rus, comparat amb l'anglès i el castellà. Amb aquesta finalitat, s'han utilitzat articles de recerca rellevants, recursos lexicogràfics i estudis de corpus. Els resultats demostren que les relacions de poder són crucials per a l'elecció lèxica a l ´hora d'expressar el descontentament en rus. Això vol dir que les paraules emocionals s'escullen segons l'estatus social de l'experimentador del descontentament i del causador del descontentament. A més, hi ha classificacions diferents de les paraules del descontentament en rus: racionals o irracionals, expressives o inexpressives, 'altes' (relacionades amb l'ànima) i 'baixes' (relacionades amb el cos). L'anàlisi comparatiu del descontentament en rus, anglès i castellà ha revelat tant similituds com diferències en les seves respectives versions. En totes tres llengües apareixen dicotomies 'baixa o alta intensitat', 'extern-intern', 'significatiu-insignificatiu'. La conceptualització metafòrica del descontentament també és similar. Majoritàriament està conceptualitzat com a 'substància dins d'un recipient', tot i que el tema dels 'elements' predomina en rus, 'el líquid calent dins d'un recipient' en anglès i 'l'objecte en possessió' en castellà. L'etimologia juga un cert paper a la conceptualització en tots tres idiomes, especialment en anglès (per exemple anger) i en rus (per exemple obida). També, les diferències en grups sinonímics i en antònims recurrents (mir “pau” en rus, paciencia “paciència” en castellà, i pleasure “plaer” en anglès) reflecteixen diferències en els 'imatges naïfs del mon' en els tres idiomes. A nivell morfosintàctic, els trets específics del rus són 1) la fusió del lèxic emocional amb els verbs actius, causada per la conceptualització dels emocions com a accions, i 2) la derivació, sent el mitjà principal de l'enriquiment lèxic i l'indicador principal de la prominència d'un terme. En referència a la representació discursiva del descontentament dirigit cap als altres, la descripció del component social dins de l'estructura conceptual i l'estudi qualitatiu del corpus rus, anglès i castellà han donat com a resultat la reconstrucció del discurs subtextual. El discurs rus és motivat per la moral arcaica i rural i construeix el món com una casa comuna. El discurs castellà és motivat per la moral patriarcal, fent èmfasi en l'acció com a signe de poder. El discurs anglès és influenciat per l'imperi de la llei i postula anger com a mitjà vàlid d'autoafirmació.

Le poète-traducteur Paul Celan compte parmi le nombre d’écrivains qui ont exercé une activité professionnelle. En s’appuyant sur des documents d’archives inédits et des témoignages d’anciens élèves, le présent travail aborde un champ de recherche quasi inexploré en se proposant de retracer et d’analyser son activité de lecteur d’allemand en relation avec son œuvre poétique. A partir d’une mise en perspective biographique, institutionnelle et sociale de la fonction assumée en 1956/57 et de nouveau entre 1959 et 1970, il se concentre sur l’enseignement de la littérature allemande et de la traduction. On y voit que, en étudiant Kafka, Büchner et d'autres auteurs, l’intérêt de Celan se porte surtout sur des questions relatives à la figure du poète, à l’individu et à la langue, et que sa méthode didactique garde une certaine distance à l’égard des pratiques universitaires. Il en va de même des exercices de thème allemand que plusieurs anciens élèves ne se rappellent pas uniquement en termes de préparation aux examens du concours, mais avant tout comme des séances de « réécriture », où l’accent était mis sur la « poésie » des textes abordés. L’« anthologie professionnelle » de Celan qui réunit plus de 150 extraits laisse supposer que cet enseignement, au-delà de l’approfondissement linguistique, révèle, entre autres, sa dimension anthropologique en engageant une réflexion critique sur les temps présents. En somme la thèse, tout en mettant à la disposition de la recherche littéraire des documents jusque-là inédits, met en évidence la portée de l’enseignement de Celan pour faire voir le poète et l’homme derrière le lecteur d’allemand
The poet and translator Paul Celan belongs to the writers who have exercised a professional activity. The present study examines his largely unknown work as a language instructor in Parisian elite universities. It presents and analyses unpublished material from Celan’s estate as well as accounts of his former students and establishes relationships with his poetry. In the light of a biographical, institutional and social contextualisation of Celan’s work in 1956/57 and, again, from 1959 to 1970, the study concentrates especially on Celan’s literature and translation teaching. This shows that his reception of Kafka, Büchner or Heine in a didactic context is strongly linked to poetologically relevant questions such as that of the poet, the individual or language and that it must not be understood as systematically subordinate to conventional academic constraints. Similarly, several “anciens élèves” recall the translation classes (“thème allemand”) as not only a preparation for the “agrégation” examination, but also as involving poetic “réécriture”. Celan’s “work anthology” for the ENS, which contains more than 150 passages, suggests that these classes were not only aimed at the consolidation of linguistic proficiency but that they became a scene of engagement with terminology relating to the natural sciences, with contemporary developments and other poetic figures, and with aesthetic and anthropological issues. Thus, the examination of hitherto unknown original material which sheds light on an important part of Celan’s intellectual biography elucidates the way in which his academic teaching was shaped by questions and motifs which refer to the poet and the person
Der Dichter und literarische Übersetzer Paul Celan zählt zu denjenigenSchriftstellern, die einem bürgerlichen Beruf nachgegangen sind. Seine in der Forschung bislang nur unzureichend bekannteTätigkeit als Deutschlektor an Pariser Elitehochschulen wird in der vorliegenden Untersuchung unter Rückgriff auf bislangunveröffentlichte Nachlassmaterialien und Berichte seiner ehemaligen Studierenden aufgearbeitet, analysiert und insVerhältnis zu seinem dichterischen Werk gesetzt. Vor dem Hintergrund einer biographischen, institutionellen und sozialenEinordnung der im Jahre 1956/57 und erneut von 1959 bis 1970 ausgeübten Funktion rücken dabei vor allem der LiteraturundÜbersetzungsunterricht in den Mittelpunkt, den Celan mit den normalien-ne-s abgehalten hat. Dabei kann gezeigt werden,dass seine im didaktischen Rahmen erfolgende Auseinandersetzung mit Franz Kafka, Georg Büchner, dem deutschenVolksliedgut, Thomas Mann oder Heinrich Heine nicht zuletzt auf poetologisch relevante Fragen wie die nach dem Dichter,dem Individuum und der Sprache rekurrierte und sich dabei auch den hergebrachten akademischen Gepflogenheiten nichtbedingungslos unterordnete. This dissertation is situated in the research of Portuguese Language s History Description, and its theme is a study of the vices of language and its subject of the study it is a grammatical polemic between Rui Barbosa and Ernesto Carneiro Ribeiro. This study aims to contribute to the linguistic studies of a past that is present in the portuguese language. Particulary: 1.depicting the political, social and cultural moment of in the beginning XIX century and in the ending XX century; 2. to examine the vices of language; 3. to describe the position of the grammarians. This essay is justified by the fact of the debaters have adopted a conception of language as a naturalist principle. The methodological procedure used was the theoretical descriptive and deductive. The theoretical support was sought and the analyse of the texts was followed according the linear reading of Réplica and Tréplica works. This research is grounded on the theoritical presuppositions on the Linguistic Ideas History as regards its purposes, the results pointed out that the historical, social, political and cultural moment influenced the polemists on the privileged theme vices of language. It has concluded that the studious have adopted a purist attitude resulting in the conception of language therefore they defending it of the vices that corrupt the Portuguese language
Esta dissertação situa-se na linha de pesquisa da História e Descrição da Língua Portuguesa, tendo por tema um estudo sobre os vícios de linguagem e por objeto de estudo a polêmica gramatical entre os estudiosos Rui Barbosa e Ernesto Carneiro Ribeiro. O objetivo desta pesquisa visa contribuir com os estudos lingüísticos de um passado que se faz presente na língua portuguesa. Especificamente: 1. Descrever o momento político, social e cultural do final do século XIX e início do século XX; 2. Examinar os vícios de linguagem; 3. Descrever a posição dos gramáticos. Justificase esta investigação pelo fato de os debatedores adotarem uma concepção de língua enquanto princípio naturalista. O procedimento metodológico adotado para este trabalho foi o teórico-descritivo-dedutivo. Buscou-se o suporte teórico, selecionou-se o corpus, seguindo-se a análise de textos, de acordo com a leitura linear das obras Réplica e Tréplica. Este estudo, apoiado nos pressupostos teóricos da História das Ideias Linguísticas, obteve um resultado satisfatório, pelo fato de ter apontado que o momento histórico, social, político e cultural influenciou os polemistas no tema privilegiado, vícios de linguagem. The analytical part is concerned with the potential of the Czech Republic for the development of Youth Travel and the tendency of Youth Travelers to visit this destination. The contribution of this work can be seen in the new product concept which might be helpful in attracting Youth Travelers to one of the regions of the Czech Republic.

Den här uppsatsen består av en översättning från japanska till svenska av Yasutaka Tsutsuis Toki wo kakeru shoujo (Flickan som hoppade genom tiden) och en kommentar av översättningsprocessen. Syftet är att undersöka vilka problem som kan uppstå vid översättningen av anföring, interpunktion och interjektioner samt vilka strategier som kan tillämpas för att lösa dessa problem. Översättningen framställs med ett acceptansinriktat, målkultursorienterat förhållningssätt för att anpassa texten till de normer och förväntningar som är rådande i målkulturen.
This master’s thesis consists of a translation from Japanese to Swedish of Yasutaka Tsutsui’s Toki wo kakeru shoujo (The girl who leapt through time), and a commentary of the translation process. The purpose is to examine which problems may arise when translating reported discourse, punctuation and interjections, and what strategies can be used to solve these problems. The translation is performed with an orientation towards acceptability and the target culture, to try and conform the text to the norms and expectations of the target culture.

The purpose of this essay was to show the pupils as presenters from their own and their teachers’ perspective. This was done regarding presentations by studying and comparing the applicability of the two structuralist theories media ecology theory and structural semiotic theory. The theories were used as model bases, aimed to correspond to opinions and experiences of Swedish upper secondary school pupils. Through a didactic approach, I intended to find out how pupils’ relations to presentations differ depending on how they regard them. Focus was on if they thought of presentations as comprehensive experiences or found similar elements in mediated and unmediated presentation contexts. An empirical field study was accomplished through qualitative interviews with pupils and teachers. The word “presentation” was treated as a discourse since data showed that respondents included diverse meanings and functions in the word. The analysis was based on the qualitatively collected empirical data that were applied on my models. Constructionism functioned as theoretical framework. My study indicated that the discourse presentation needs to be investigated further.

This thesis presents a descriptive empirical study of deverbal nominalizations. Very often what can be expressed by means of a deverbal noun can also be expressed by means of a verbal construction and vice-versa. Deverbal nouns are hybrid categories that have a mixture of verbal and nominal features. These nouns can denote either the action named by the base verb, being, in this case, a paraphrase of a verbal construction, or the result of that action. If nouns denoting processes are closer to verbs, nouns denoting a result, that is, a concrete or an abstract entity resulting from the action, are closer to nouns. Both result and event nouns inherit the argument structure of the base verb. These analyses of the lexical denotation of deverbal nouns and their argument structure are two of the main aims of this thesis. The third goal is the descriptive and comparative study of translation mismatches between Russian and Spanish deverbal noun constructions. The thesis is structured in the following way in order to cover these three points. In the first chapter, we present a brief introduction of the whole thesis, we highlight the main goals and motivations for carrying out this threefold study. In the second chapter, we describe the linguistic resources used in the development of this project. We first introduce the monolingual and bilingual corpora, and then, the lexicons. In the third chapter, we discuss the relationship between the morphological and lexical aspects of the base verb and the lexical denotation of the deverbal noun. We also study other factors that may influence the lexical denotation of the deverbal noun. In the fourth chapter, we present the study of the argument structure of deverbal nouns focusing on the type of constituent that can be an argument, how the arguments are realized and their possible combinations, which ends in the obtention of the more freqüent syntactico-semantic patterns. In chapter five, we present the descriptive and comparative study of translation mismatches of deverbal nouns between Russian and Spanish. We provide our classification of the translation mismatches depending on the interrelation and number of linguistic changes (morphologic, syntactic, semantic and pragmatic) involved. Finally, in the last chapter we present our conclusions and ideas for further research.
Aquesta tesi presenta un estudi descriptiu empíric sobre les nominalitzacions deverbals del rus. Molt sovint, allò que es pot expressar a través d’un nom deverbal es pot expressar també a través d’una construcció verbal. Els noms deverbals són categories mixtes que barregen trets verbals amb trets nominals. Aquests noms poden expressar l’acció denotada pel verb base, en aquest cas es poden considerar paràfrasis d’una construcció verbal, o bé el resultat de l’acció. Així doncs, els noms deverbals que denoten l’acció del verb estan més a prop del verb, mentre que els noms deverbals que denoten el resultat de l’acció, és a dir, una entitat concreta o abstracta, estan més a prop del nom. Partim de la hipòtesi que ambdós tipus de nom hereten l’estructura argumental del verb base. Aquestes dues anàlisis, és a dir, l’estudi de la denotació lèxica del nom deverbal i de l’estructura argumental dels noms deverbals són dos dels tres objectius principals de la tesi. El tercer objectiu és l’estudi descriptiu i comparatiu dels desajustos de traducció entre les construccions amb noms deverbals en rus i castellà. La tesi s’estructura de la manera següent: En el primer capítol, presentem una breu introducció a la tesi on descrivim els objectius i les motivacions principals d’aquest estudi. En el segon capítol, es descriuen els recursos lingüístics que hem utilitzat en el transcurs del treball. Primer, introduïm els corpora monolingües i bilingües i, finalment, els lexicons. En el tercer capítol, analitzem la relació entre l’aspecte morfològic i lèxic del verb base. També estudiem altres factors que poden influir en la denotació lèxica del nom deverbal. En el quart capítol, presentem l’estudi de l’estructura argumental dels noms deverbals centrant-nos en el tipus de constituent que pot ser argumental, com es realitzen els arguments i les seves possibles combinacions. D’aquesta anàlisi, en resulta l’obtenció dels patrons sintàctico-semàntics dels noms deverbals més freqüents. En el cinquè capítol, presentem l’estudi descriptiu i comparatiu dels desajustos de traducció entre el rus i el castellà. En aquest capítol proposem una classificació de desajustos de traducció en funció de la interrelació i el nombre de canvis lingüístics (morfològics, sintàctics, semàntics i pragmàtics). Finalment, en el darrer capítol presentem les nostres conclusions i idees per a una futura recerca.

Objective: The objective of the present study was to evaluate the performance of the monothermal caloric screening test in a large sample of patients. Design: A retrospective analysis of the medical records of 1002 consecutive patients who had undergone vestibular assessment at the Mayo Clinic during the years 1989 and 1990 was conducted. Patients with incomplete alternate binaural bithermal (ABB) caloric testing, congenital or periodic alternating nystagmus, or bilateral vestibular loss were excluded from the study. Clinical decision theory analyses (relative operating characteristic curves) were used to determine the accuracy with which the monothermal warm (MWST) and monothermal cool (MCST) caloric screening tests predicted the results of the ABB caloric test. Cumulative distributions were constructed as a function of the cutoff points for monothermal interear difference (IED) to select the cutoff point associated with any combination of true-positive and false-positive rates. Results: Both MWST and MCST performed well above chance level. The test performance for the MWST was significantly better than that of the MCST for three of the four ABB gold standards. A 10% IED cutoff point for the MWST yielded a false-negative rate of either 1% (UW ≥25%) or 3% (UW ≥20%). The use of a 10% IED (UW ≥25%) for the MWST would have resulted in a 40% reduction (N = 294) in the number of ABB caloric tests performed on patients without a unilateral weakness. Conclusions: The results of this study indicated that the MWST decreases test time without sacrificing the sensitivity of the ABB caloric test.

Abstract:
In this paper I have investigated the role of the weaver, from my own perspective as a weaver. I have discussed weaving in relation to function and painting, and how the weaving process and the collaboration with the loom have a great impact on what I create. I have found it difficult to believe in the future as a weaver, and with this project I wanted to find a meaning with weaving that I can lean on.   All five weaves are woven on the same warp, I call it a warp family. Every weave is a try and a failure to weave a rug. Instead they have all turned into different characters, portraying my ongoing struggle with, and love for, the warp.    I’ve come to the conclusion that for me the rug is a symbol for honesty in making, and that it’s function is to remind us about values that often are neglected. The visible process, the human presence, is then more important than aspects like functionality or perfection.

This diploma thesis describes how to create or convert traditional Java programs to desktop-like rich internet applications with the Google Web Toolkit. The Google Web Toolkit is an open source development environment, which translates Java code to browser and device independent HTML and JavaScript. Most of the GWT framework parts, including the Java to JavaScript compiler as well as important security issues of websites will be introduced. The famous Agricola board game will be implemented in the Model-View-Presenter pattern to show that complex user interfaces can be created with the Google Web Toolkit. The Google Web Toolkit framework will be compared with the JavaServer Faces one to find out which toolkit is the right one for the next web project
Diese Diplomarbeit beschreibt die Erzeugung desktopähnlicher Anwendungen mit dem Google Web Toolkit und die Umwandlung klassischer Java-Programme in diese. Das Google Web Toolkit ist eine Open-Source-Entwicklungsumgebung, die Java-Code in browserunabhängiges als auch in geräteübergreifendes HTML und JavaScript übersetzt. Vorgestellt wird der Großteil des GWT Frameworks inklusive des Java zu JavaScript-Compilers sowie wichtige Sicherheitsaspekte von Internetseiten. Um zu zeigen, dass auch komplizierte graphische Oberflächen mit dem Google Web Toolkit erzeugt werden können, wird das bekannte Brettspiel Agricola mittels Model-View-Presenter Designmuster implementiert. Zur Ermittlung der richtigen Technologie für das nächste Webprojekt findet ein Vergleich zwischen dem Google Web Toolkit und JavaServer Faces statt

Il lavoro è stato suddiviso in tre macro-aree. Una prima riguardante un'analisi teorica di come funzionano le intrusioni, di quali software vengono utilizzati per compierle, e di come proteggersi (usando i dispositivi che in termine generico si possono riconoscere come i firewall). Una seconda macro-area che analizza un'intrusione avvenuta dall'esterno verso dei server sensibili di una rete LAN. Questa analisi viene condotta sui file catturati dalle due interfacce di rete configurate in modalità promiscua su una sonda presente nella LAN. Le interfacce sono due per potersi interfacciare a due segmenti di LAN aventi due maschere di sotto-rete differenti. L'attacco viene analizzato mediante vari software. Si può infatti definire una terza parte del lavoro, la parte dove vengono analizzati i file catturati dalle due interfacce con i software che prima si occupano di analizzare i dati di contenuto completo, come Wireshark, poi dei software che si occupano di analizzare i dati di sessione che sono stati trattati con Argus, e infine i dati di tipo statistico che sono stati trattati con Ntop. Il penultimo capitolo, quello prima delle conclusioni, invece tratta l'installazione di Nagios, e la sua configurazione per il monitoraggio attraverso plugin dello spazio di disco rimanente su una macchina agent remota, e sui servizi MySql e DNS. Ovviamente Nagios può essere configurato per monitorare ogni tipo di servizio offerto sulla rete.

The alliterating poems written during the Alliterative Revival have mistakenly been grouped together metrically, when in fact they represent a diversity of meters. They mainly use the same phonology, however, which was also current in Chaucer and Gower's poetic dialects. In detailing the diverse meters, this study argues that the meter is simple and learnable both in the fourteenth and twenty-first centuries. Chapter 1 establishes the current intractability of Middle English metrical studies, defines the English context in which these poems were written, and challenges the traditional bifurcation of English poetry into accentual and syllable-stress. The largest group of poems shares a common meter based on long unrhymed alliterating lines that use historical final --e and asymmetrical half-lines as structuring devices. Chapter 2 adds elision to Thomas Cable's metrical system to demonstrate that Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and Piers Plowman are both regular, and they belong to the same metrical tradition despite the usual move by metrists to set Piers Plowman to one side. Chapter 3 compares the meter of The Destruction of Troy with the alliterative meter described in Chapter 2 and finds that Troy uses a meter that only superficially resembles the alliterative meter because the poet does not employ half-line dissimilation. Chapter 4 compares the Gawain-poet's Pearl and the bobs and wheels from Gawain to reveal that their meters belong to neither of the two traditional schools of poetry, but is instead a medieval dolnik. Chapter 5 concludes on several of the Harley Lyrics, further problematizes the binary of native and non-native meters, and hypothesizes that the medieval audience expected a diversity of metrical experiments combining these traditions in various ways.

R is a programming language for statistics that enables users to express computation at a high level of abstraction. Until now, its only implementation has been the R interpreter. Though interpretation is convenient for interactive use, it hampers the performance of computation-intensive programs. This thesis describes the design and implementation of RCC, a compiler that translates R into C to improve performance and enable future optimization. RCC uses runtime libraries of the open-source R interpreter, combining compiled and interpreted code to achieve a complete translation. Function definitions and control flow in R are translated directly into C, while operations such as dynamic function modification remain interpreted. RCC-generated code in the current version achieves over a threefold speedup compared to the R interpreter. Hand-coded experiments suggest that optimizing the generated code using knowledge about the runtime libraries could improve performance by a factor of 100.
