In this thesis three regional case studies were analysed to explore coordination mechanisms within the Persian rug industry. Analysis using the Global Value Chain approach highlights value creation through chain governance and network dynamics to coordinate value-added activities. While the GVC approach worked well at accounting for the intra- and inter-regional variation in observed coordination mechanisms, examination of the role of embeddedness of social relations among producers and weavers was also required. Gender and spatial issues were especially important in understand coordination differences across regions.

Navajo blankets and rugs collected by Washington Matthews and Marjorie Merriweather Post are now held by the Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution. Matthews, medical doctor and anthropologist, actively collected Navajo blankets; to preserve them in museums and gather knowledge about them in publications. His goal was to learn about the Navajos before they merged into dominate American culture. Post, philanthropist, art collector, and socialite, collected Navajo blankets and rugs as status symbols, decorations and souvenirs when they were marketed by traders and weavers. Her collections once exhibited at her estates are now exhibited at the Hillwood Museum and the Museum of Natural History, in Washington, D.C. This thesis is about the collectors, their collections and why they collected Navajo blankets and rugs. Tables and photographs illustrate the collection.

O presente Relatório de Estágio (RE) surge no âmbito da realização de um estágio curricular no CITA - Centro Interpretativo do Tapete de Arraiolos, sito no concelho de Arraiolos. A oportunidade da sua realização decorre da frequência da unidade curricular de Dissertação/Projeto/Estágio Profissional, integrada no 2.º ano do Mestrado em Turismo e Desenvolvimento de Destinos e Produtos (TDDP).
Tendo por base a temática do Tapete de Arraiolos explorada no espaço museológico referido, o propósito central da realização do estágio curricular foi o envolvimento da aluna em atividades de aprendizagem, aplicação de conhecimentos e saberes em situações reais da dinâmica institucional associadas à concretização da missão do CITA, como complemento dos processos de ensino e da aprendizagem adquiridos no Mestrado de TDDP.
Neste contexto, o objetivo principal deste RE é apresentar, de forma sucinta e organizada, o resultado da experiência profissional vivenciada no contexto das atividades de aprendizagem, aplicação de conhecimentos e saberes obtidos no CITA. É dado particular destaque ao desenvolvimento de uma proposta de projeto, a qual teve como principal intenção identificar oportunidades e desafios futuros que possam contribuir para a divulgação do Tapete de Arraiolos; ABSTRACT:
The following report emerges out of the completion of a curricular internship at CITA – Centro Interpretativo do Tapete de Arraiolos, located in Arraiolos. This opportunity arose out of the curricular unit for a professional Internship integrated in the master’s degree in Turismo e Desenvolvimento de Destinos e Produtos (TDDP).
Based on the thematic explored on CITA being Arraiolos Rugs, the main goal of this internship was to emerge the student in learning activities by applying the knowledge acquired on the master’s degree of TDDP in real situations depending of the institutional dynamic.
That said the main focus of this report is to bring forward clearly and in an organized way the outcome of the professional experience lived during the learning activities as well as the knowledge acquired in CITA. There is also given a high value to the development of a project proposition which aims to identify future challenges and opportunities in the promotion of the Arraiolos Rugs.

These eleven chapters comprise Part One of a novel of thirty-seven chapters, entitled As Runs the Deer. It is a dialectic play on the processes of Time, as well as a play with evolving dialects. Nominally set in the 19th c., in an Appalachian-like terrain, it shows the difficulties James Ian Pierson meets when emerging out of his wilderness to re-enter his former life. Opening his own story by means of his sycamore cane, the 19- yr.-old amnesiac must soon reconcile his past with the invading "Now!" He evades the intrusion of a drunken hunter, is overcome by the wintry elements, brought from his icebed by Welsh woodsman Eustace, befriended by Mercury, ancient herbalist, keeper of the Myths. Frivolous Emily Marie Marchault must also reconcile herself with Ian's uneasy re-entry. Shackled by gilded chains of manners, she sees herself as overprotected by her guardian, Breton, and chips away at his ivory tower.

The study on the longest stretch of consecutive successes in \random" trials dates back to 1916 when the German philosopher Karl Marbe wrote a paper concerning the longest stretch of consecutive births of children of the same sex as appearing in the birth register of a Bavarian town. The result was actually used by parents to \predict" the sex of their children. The longest stretch of same-sex births during that time in 200 thousand birth registrations was actually 17 t log2(200 103): During the past century, the research of longest stretch of consecutive successes (longest runs) has found applications in various areas, especially in the theory of reliability. The aim of this thesis is to study large deviations on longest runs in the setting of Markov chains. More precisely, we establish a general large deviation principle for the longest success run in a two-state (success or failure) Markov chain. Our tool is based on a recent result regarding a general large deviation for the longest success run in Bernoulli trails. It turns out that the main ingredient in the proof is to implement several global and local estimates of the cumulative distribution function of the longest success run.

Arbetet syftar till att lyfta fram den potential som flera urbana rumbesitter, de överblivna rum som saknar en tydlig användning ellerfunktion. Där de lokala intressena, dess brukare och rummets närmstaomgivning blir en utgångspunkt för att förstå vilken användningrummet bör verka mot. Med det vill vi vidga perspektiven inom hurman tänker kring överblivna rum idag, samt hur man bättre kan utnyttjarummens potentiella användningar för ett rikare urbant liv. Arbetetbaseras på en fallstudie av rummet under Mälarbron i Södertäljeoch dess närområde, där tre förslag till utveckling studeras ochanalyseras med hjälp av vår teoretiska verktygslåda. Vi stödjer ossframför allt på Quentin Stevens bok The Ludic City - Exploring thePotentials of Public Spaces (2007) där hans lekfulla syn på stadenblir en röd tråd att applicera på bl.a. Kim Doveys allmänna teorierkring urban design i hans bok Urban Design Thinking (2016). Arbetetresulterar i en gestaltning som blir en undersökande process om hurrummet under Mälarbron får en mer meningsfull och mångsidig rollsom stärker det urbana sammanhang som den utgör en del av. Gestaltandet av överblivna rum är ytterst aktuell inom deprofessioner som arbetar med frågor kring byggd miljö idag, därförtror vi att detta arbete inte enbart belyser vårt eget intresse utan ärrelevant för alla som arbetar med den byggda miljön.The purpose of the work is to highlight the potential of several urbanspaces, the leftover spaces that lacking a clear use or function.Where the local interests, its users and the context becomesthe starting point for understanding what needs the space shouldbe used for. With this we want to broaden the perspectives on howto think about these spaces today, and how to better utilize the potentialuses of these spaces for a richer urban life. The work is basedon a case study of the space under the bridge, Mälarbron in Södertäljeand its context, where three proposals for development arestudied and analyzed using a concept box. We especially supportQuentin Steven’s book The Ludic City - Exploring the Potentials ofPublic Spaces (2007), where his playful view of the city becomes ared thread to apply to, among other things, Kim Dovey’s generaltheories of urban design in his book Urban Design Thinking (2016).The work results in a process that becomes an exploratory processof how the space under the Mälarbron gets a more meaningful andversatile role that strengthens the urban context in the area. Throughthis work, we want to contribute new skills to the professions workingwith these spaces, and above all highlight the potential of severalurban spaces, where we consider urban design to play an importantrole. The transformation of these spaces is extremely relevant in theprofessions dealing with built environment issues today, where webelieve that this not only illustrates our own interest but is relevant toeveryone who works with the built environment.

Every plan and program decided on by an authority or municipality, where the environmental impact can be considerable, must be environmentally assessed according to Environmental Code, the Planning and Building Act (PBA) and the Regulation on Environmental Impact Assessment.The purpose of this study is to examine the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for The Region Development Plan for the Stockholm Region, RUFS 2010. The plan was approved by at that time the Regional Planning Office (Regionplanekontoret), which procured the process by consultants. RUFS 2010 includes two merged plans ie. a regional Development Plan (RUP) and the Regional Spatial Plan for Stockholm. It was necessary to establish an environmental assessment of RUP, but not for the regional plan. The merge between the two plans made the process complicated. There was need to explore the process, because it has not previously been establish before in Sweden. The EIA process followed a fairly traditional structure. The process was conducted internally at the consulting and communicated with clients from Region Planning Office. The Region Planning Office had divided the work into separate parts and the work was based on an attempt to shape the national environmental goals to the overall criteria and then make the environmental assessment. The EIA had its focus on searching for information, and initially it was a bit of a "trial and error” process for the actors. Operators did not know how the work would be organized, and two consultants were involved to manage the process. The results of the study have been established through various interviews with the actors involved. It was clear that different stakeholders had different views regarding the process. In order to complement the interviews literature studies have been made. The study is based on research in the area of urban planning and work of EIA in different forms. A vulnerable time frame was difficult for the actors as well due to stated deadlines. By that time, the process was under time pressure. The EIA was shorthanded without an iterative process between the plan and environmental assessment. The most striking discovery in this essay was the lack of transparency between the actors. That made it difficult for the actors involved to find an appropriate level and direction. It was important to examine RUFS process, because it can be the basis for the next version of RUFS. The approach to the environmental assessment of RUFS is something that needs to be further discussed and clarified, before the commencement of the plan. There are basic questions that all stakeholders need to clear out and to make a common view on the process. It may enable the process to run smoothly and that similar problems are avoided.

Com o objetivo de definir a composição química do rum a e encontrar descritores que permitam distinguir rums cubanos de rums não cubanos, foram analisadas 44 amostras de rum provenientes de 15 países diferentes. Essas análises foram realizadas por GC-FID, HPLC-UV-Vis, AAS e ICP OES. Os resultados analíticos foram analisados utilizando quimiometria (PLS, PCA, QDA, LDA, HCA e FA), que permitiu determinar quais analitos apresentam características significativas para separação dos rums em duas classes: Cubanos e Não Cubanos.With the aim to define the chemical profile of rum and achieve descriptors that allows the distinction among Cubean rums and non- Cubean rums, the analysis of 44 samples of rum from 15 differents countries were reported. To provide the chemical descriptors, the analysis of mineral composition (cupper, iron, zinc, magnesium, manganese, cadmium, lead, nickel, cobalto, chromium, calcium, barium, sodium, lithium, strontium), phenolic profile (gallic acid, syringic acid, miricetin, ellagic acid, syringaldehyd, vanillin, vanillic acid, epicatechin, catechin, scopoletin, coniferaldehyde, sinapaldehyde, trans-resveratrol, quercetin, eugenol, coumarin), caramel content, alcohols composition (methanol, propanol, isobutanol, 2-butanol, butanol, isoamyl alcohol), acetic acid content, ethyl acetate content, aldehydes (formaldehyde, butyraldehyde, furfuraldehyde, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, acetaldehyde, crotonaldehyde, propionaldehyde, isobutyraldehyde, benzaldehyde, valeraldehyde, isovaleraldehyde, acrolein), and ketones (2,3-butanodiona monoxime, ciclopentanone, acetilcetone, acetophenone, acetone, metil-isoamil-ketone) were carried out. The experimental results were theatead through exploratory and classification chemometric methods (principal component analysis, hierarchical cluster analysis, partial least squares, factor analysis, linear and quadratic discriminant analysis), that allowed determination of analytes which shown significant characteristics to separation rums into two distinct groups. The chemometric results highlighted that from all the classes of compounds studied were identified descriptors, with alternated participating loadings, that are capables to distinguish the spirit and classify it a acording to their origin. The PCA analysis present in this separation, an acumulative percentage in the first three principal components of 70.4%, having isoamyl alcohol and furfural as significant descriptors for PC1. In the classification of the Cuban rum and non Cuban rum, the LDA model classified rums with 97.1% of accuracy using acetone, ethyl acetate, 2- butanol, 1-propanol, 1-butanol, isoamyl alcohol, caramel, barium, strontium, vanillic acid, vanillin, syringic acid, catechin, epicatechin, magnesium, acetaldehyde, ciclopentanonona, lead, isobutanol, zinc, calcium, sodium, and crotonaldehyde as descriptors, and with a inclusion of 10 blind samples to test the model, it was achived a percentage of correct assessment of 80% using those 23 chemical descriptors. These results suggested that the spirit, rum, show differences in its chemical composition related to mineral contents, aldehydes, ketones, alcohols, phenolic compounds, caramel, acetic acid and ethyl acetate, wich may be used to classify it according to the geographic origin.

A Work Project, presented as part of the requirements for the Award of a Masters Degree in Finance from the NOVA – School of Business and EconomicsThis paper studies the monthly flows of bond fund geographically focused on Europe and on the United States in the period between 2002 and 2012, with special attention to the effect of the financial crisis of 2008. Through the usage of the panel quantile regression model, this study aims to identify which funds, in terms of their characteristics, are more likely to suffer a run. The main finding is that the impact of the characteristics of fund flows is not equal for all funds, varying with issuer entity, the state of the economy as well as the focus of the fund. During the financial crisis, runs were more pronounced, situation that still affects funds geographically focused on Europe.

Este texto apresenta os resultados da análise de 18 hodônimos do centro urbano de Caxias do Sul, a fim de descobrir os motivos que influenciaram na denominação das ruas desse lugar. Na época da denominação, Caxias do Sul tinha população predominantemente italiana e os italianos não foram contemplados com os nomes dos principais logradouros da cidade. O objetivo foi descobrir por que o grupo majoritário não foi homenageado, levando em considerações as relações de poder. Foi realizada uma pesquisa documental, levando-se em consideração elementos linguísticos e extralinguísticos implícitos e explícitos nestes hodônimos. Apoiada nos princípios teórico-metodológicos da toponímia, com Dauzat e Rostaing, adaptados à realidade brasileira e adotados pela Universidade de São Paulo (USP), especialmente por DICK, e por outras universidades públicas do Brasil, a análise teve como tema investigar as razões que foram determinantes na escolha de nomes não-italianos para designar o grupo de ruas centrais de Caxias do Sul e identificar as implicações sociais, econômicas e, sobretudo, políticas que eles escondem. This text presents the results of the analysis of 18 names of the city centre streets of Caxias do Sul. The main aim of this study is to identify and give an explanation about the motives which influenced in the denomination of the city centre streets. A documental research was conducted and it took into consideration linguistic and extra linguistic elements implicit and explicit in these denominations. Following methodological theoretical principles of toponymy which are applied to the Brazilian reality and used by the University of São Paulo and other public universities in Brazil, the analysis had as an objective to investigate the reasons which determined the selection of the non-Italian names to designate the group of central streets in Caxias do Sul and identify the social, economic, and especially political implications they hide.

Esta dissertação tem como objetivo contribuir para a melhoria das condições de habitabilidade nas cidades, através de um estudo que possibilite levantar diretrizes de desenho urbano de controle dos agentes climáticos adversos ao conforto térmico do homem nas vias públicas. O objeto de estudo consiste no desenho urbano bioclimático de controle do clima na escala do lugar, sendo o estudo de caso a Avenida Juscelino Kubitscheck, na cidade de Palmas - TO. O método utilizado consiste em: estudar a via pública e a concepção bioclimática do espaço público; montar uma base tecnológica com enfoque no conforto térmico em vias públicas; analisar técnicas e estratégias bioclimáticas de controle dos agentes do clima; aplicar os resultados da pesquisa bibliográfica no caso de estudo, propondo diretrizes de desenho urbano para o mesmo; e comentar os resultados obtidos nas considerações finais. Os resultados demonstram a importância de se inserirem conceitos bioclimáticos na concepção, construção e ou revitalização das vias públicas e o grande papel da vegetação no controle sustentável dos agentes adversos ao conforto térmico. _______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
This dissertation aims to contribute to the improvement of the conditions of housing in cities through a study that allows us to find the guidelines for urban design control of the adverse climatic agents to the thermal comfort of the people in the streets. The object of study is based on bioclimatic urban design for climate control on the scale of the place and the case of study on Avenue J.K. the city of Palmas-TO. The method used is to: study the road and the bioclimatic design of public space, build a technology base with a focus on thermal comfort in public roads, analyze bioclimatic strategies and techniques of climatic control agents, apply the results of bibliographic research in the case of study, proposing guidelines for urban design, and comment on the results obtained in the final considerations. The results demonstrate the importance of working in bioclimatic concepts in design, construction and revitalization of public roads; and the important role of vegetation in controlling development of adverse agents to thermal comfort.

A multithreaded parallel program that is intended to be deterministic may exhibit nondeterminism clue to bugs called determinacy races. A key capability of race detectors is to determine whether one thread executes logically in parallel with another thread or whether the threads must operate in series. This thesis presents two algorithms, one serial and one parallel, to maintain the series-parallel (SP) relationships "on the fly" for fork-join multithreaded programs. For a fork-join program with T1 work and a critical-path length of T[infinity], the serial SP-Maintenance algorithm runs in O(T1) time. The parallel algorithm executes in the nearly optimal O(T1/P + PT[infinity]) time, when run on P processors and using an efficient scheduler. These SP-maintenance algorithms can be incorporated into race detectors to get a provably good race detector that runs in parallel. This thesis describes an efficient parallel race detector I call Nondeterminator-3. For a fork-join program T1 work, critical-path length T[infinity], and v shared memory locations, the Nondeterminator-3 runs in O(T1/P + PT[infinity] lg P + min [(T1 lg P)/P, vT[infinity] Ig P]) expected time, when run on P processors and using an efficient scheduler.

This research is enlivened by the possibility of creating through writing, by the act of noticing and noting the affections of the living body in its relationship with writing. It speaks of experimentations with and departing from writing. It is also an invitation for the reader to follow this route which begins with the streets of Lisbon in 2008 and 2009 (while I was in artistic residency at c.e.m.); continues by crossing the Atlantic Ocean, and flows into the city of São Paulo through the winding streets of Vila Anglo-Brasileira. This research accompanies the mode "how" hegemonic politics of subjectivization affects the dancing, writing, loving and paralyzing body that transits throughout different cities. It follows the moments when and the agencies with which it was possible to create different modes of being with (the city, the street, fear, writing, flows, desire). As ruas e o papel que elas representam para a cidade e para a vivência urbana são abordados nesse trabalho através de seus aspectos materiais e imateriais: suas características ísicas, sua concretude e as relações, os usos e os conteúdos que abrigam. Tal distinção importa para entender a relação dialética que se instala; a morfologia ísica resulta da coniguração social, ao mesmo tempo que essa é conformada pelo ambiente ísico. A partir dessa constatação, pretende-se estudar diferentes e representativos peris de ruas na história da cidade e do urbanismo. A modernidade assistiu a intensas transformações do espaço urbano com o advento das grandes cidades, bem como da experiência urbana proporcionada em tais ambientes, criando uma inédita cena urbana que tinha na rua sua principal representante. O caos que essas cidades apresentavam, fontes simultaneamente de prazer e angústia, de excitação e desorientação, foi estreitado de seus sentidos nos ordenados espaços planejados pelo racionalismo moderno e pelo urbanismo funcionalista. O mal estar sentido por uma vida urbana que não conseguia se desenvolver em sua plenitude em tais espaços resultou em um movimento de crítica e resistência que tomou corpo na década de 1960 reivindicando o retorno, a volta da conexão entre a vida cotidiana e o espaço urbano, e que tem na rua o palco e o motor de suas ações, destacando o seu potencial de transformação da paisagem e da experiência urbana.The streets and the role they represent for the city and the urban life will be approached through its material and immaterial aspects: its physical characteristics, its concreteness and the relations, uses and contents that they shelter. Such distinction matters to understand the dialectical relationship that sets in; the physical morphology results from the social coniguration, at the same time that it is conformed by the physical environment. From this conirmation, we intend to study different and representative street proiles in the citys history and urbanism. Modernity witnessed intense transformations of urban space with the advent of large cities, as well as the urban experience provided in such environments, creating an unprecedented urban scene that had on the street its main representative. The chaos that these cities presented, sources simultaneously of pleasure and anguish, of excitement and disorientation, was narrowed of their senses in the orderly spaces planned by modern rationalism and functionalist urbanism. The malaise felt by an urban life that could not develop in its fullness in such spaces resulted in a movement of criticism and resistance that took shape in the 1960s demanding the return of the connection between daily life and urban space, and that has in the street the stage and the motor of its actions, highlighting its potential of landscape transformation of the landscape and the urban experience.

Espace de circulation et de rencontres, la rue est représentée comme un monde repoussant, désordonné et violent, malgré le contrôle exercé par les autorités. Reflet partiel de la vie quotidienne dans l’Urbs, cette image participe surtout de la critique de la civilisation urbaine, puisque la façon dont s’opèrent les déplacements dans la capitale symbolise les clivages sociaux qui structurent la société romaine. Set in the sustainable urban development context, the purpose of this work is to depict cycling as a powerful mean to improve social, environmental and economic conditions in our cities. Moving from a qualitative analysis, the work has been conducted by analyzing a series of initiatives that take place in Malmö (Sweden) aimed at raising cycling awareness and practices. The city serves as a model for discussing sustainable development in general.The results show that, even when practicing good cycling policies, public authorities need to adopt broader and more inclusive approaches in order to avoid inconsistencies and divergences. In the diversity of urban cycling dynamics, learning processes and social innovation thrive: if on one hand they help to fill gaps left by public policies, helping to overcome hindrances in cycling promotion, on the other they also set the possibility for a progress in economic and social urban life.

Esse trabalho surgiu da dificuldade apresentada por médicos dermatologistas em estabelecer um critério objetivo para o acompanhamento da evolução dos tratamentos dermatológicos antienvelhecimento, em especial o de redução de rugas periorbitais, pois elas são um dos principais indicadores visíveis de envelhecimento. Esses tratamentos requerem que o dermatologista faça um bom diagnóstico da avaliação da intensidade das rugas, de forma a estabelecer qual o melhor conjunto de medidas para cada caso clínico. Diversos trabalhos na literatura apresentam métodos para essa finalidade, alguns são precisos e trabalhosos como o da construção de moldes negativos de silicone do relevo das rugas, outros são simples e subjetivos como a comparação do caso clínico do paciente com fotografias de escalas de enrugamento validadas clinicamente. A falta de ferramentas simples e objetivas não apenas dificulta o tratamento, como também dificulta a comunicação médico-paciente, quando é necessário que o médico informe objetivamente os efeitos do tratamento ao paciente. Diante dos problemas apontados, estabeleceu-se como objetivo desse trabalho desenvolver uma ferramenta que reduza a subjetividade na avaliação de imagens de rugas periorbitais, sem, no entanto, aumentar os custos e dificultar o procedimento de diagnóstico. Para isso, foi desenvolvido um sistema computacional baseado num classificador de rugas periorbitais, capaz de categorizar o estado atual das rugas a partir de uma imagem digital obtida por uma câmera sem requisitos especiais. O sistema localiza as rugas nas imagens da região do canto do olho e classifica o grau de enrugamento do paciente na fotografia, segundo a escala de rugas de Fitzpatrick e Goldman. Os resultados apontam que o método desenvolvido obteve um desempenho de 89.6%, introduz pouca ou nenhuma interferência na rotina de consultórios dermatológicos, e auxilia na diminuição da subjetividade da classificação de rugas periorbitais.

Resumo: Os saraus literários da periferia de São Paulo se tornaram uma tendência em todo o país. Bares em bairros pobres abrem suas portas para poetas negros e pobres que desejam mostrar seu talento e se organizar coletivamente para disseminar essa importante produção artístico-cultural, fortalecer identidades culturais e racias e formar leitores nas periferias das grandes cidades. Tais encontros despertaram o interesse das comunidades pobres, de pesquisadores e do mercado editorial, além de apontar para possibilidades de pensar a crítica literária e até mesmo o ensino de leitura e de literatura em espaços institucionais como a escola. Além disso, desde a publicação da Edição Especial da Revista Caros Amigos Literatura Marginal, a diversidade linguística de uma periferia hibridizada e sincrética tem sido vista como a principal característica da literatura marginal/periférica. Uma literatura original, multimodal e multissemiótica, que cria efeitos de sentido inesperados e experiências únicas de fruição estética. Não são poucas as contribuições dessas organizações e nosso objetivo é analisar alguns dos eventos de letramentos e multiletramentos que constituem esses contextos e possibilitam sua atuação estético-política. Para tanto, observamos o sarau Elo da Corrente, por sua representatividade junto aos coletivos que se dedicam à literatura marginal/periférica. Abstract: The literary soirees the outskirts of São Paulo became a trend throughout the country. Bars in poor neighborhoods open their doors to black and poor poets who wish to show their talent and organize collectively to disseminate this important artistic and cultural production, strengthen cultural and racias identities and educating readers on the outskirts of large cities. Such meetings aroused the interest of poor communities, researchers and publishing, and point to possibilities of thinking literary criticism and even the teaching of reading and literature in institutional spaces such as school. In addition, since the publication of the Journal Special Edition Dear Friends Marginal Literature , linguistic diversity of a hybridized and syncretic periphery is considered the main feature of marginal / peripheral literature. An original literature, multimodal and multissemiótica establishing unexpected sense effects and unique experiences of aesthetic enjoyment. Målet med studien er å få en bredere kunnskap om hvordan industrikulturen har påvirket forekomsten av rusmisbruk i industristedet Odda i et historisk perspektiv. Vi ønsker også å se på hvordan rusmiddelavhengige har det i Odda i dag, og hvordan de opplever tjenestene som blir gitt. Datainnsamlingen ble gjort gjennom intervjuer med akan kontakt/ tillitsvalgt ved bedriftene, samt en brukerundersøkelse i form av spørreskjema blant brukerne av tjenestetilbudet. I intervjusituasjonen hadde vi fokus på drikkekulturen i industribedriftene i et historisk perspektiv. Spørreundersøkelsen blant brukergruppen hadde fokus på barndom og oppvekst, samt hvilke tjenester de benytter i dag og hvordan de opplever disse. Hovedfunnet i studien er at industrisamfunnet Odda har hatt en svært liberal holdning til alkoholbruk, og at skiftarbeid har vært med på å skape en kultur som gjør at det i større grad er akseptabelt å nytte alkohol enten det var tradisjonell hverdag eller helg. Når det gjelder tjenestetilbudet i dag ser vi at brukerne i stor grad er fornøyd med tjenestetilbudet, men savner flere arbeidsaktivitetstilbud.

The subject of this thesis is about the balancing of large flexible rotors which exhibit
mixed modal characteristics. The objective of the research was to develop a balancing
procedure to determine correction masses without trial runs. This required the
determination of(a) the modal vibration vectors for each resonance, (b) the modal
damping ratios,(c) the mode shapes and(d) the equivalent mass of the rotor for each
mode. It was made clear from the beginning that trial runs are unavoidable either, when
the mode shapes cannot be determined using an analytical or numerical method, or when
there is dual vibration at normal operating speed, produced by the influence of higher
unbalanced modes, is too high to allow continuous operation of the machine. Therefore,
the scope of the project was limited to the possible determination of correction masses
without trial runs for the vibration modes included within the normal operating range.
Some studies about the minimisation or complete elimination of trial runs have been
published by several authors, but a literature search revealed no reports of systematic
application of these procedures to field balancing of large turbo generators. This
suggested that some practical difficulties had still to be overcome, opening the possibility
for further research on this area.
Analysis of the rotor response demonstrated the necessity of considering the angular
position of the transducers when registering the rotor vibration. It was shown that
measuring in a direction other than those of the principal axes of stiffness introduces
errors when determining the magnitude and phase of the correction masses. That is to
say, failing to consider the effects of the transducer angular position eliminates the
possibility of balancing the rotor without trial runs. This is the first time that this problem
has been recognised.
The procedure developed was verified using an experimental rotor rig. The successful
application of the procedure to the balancing of this rotor demonstrates that balancing
withouttrialrunsisnotonlyatheoreticalbutalsoapracticalpossibility. The dynamic
characteristics of the rotor rig, however, were some what limited and did not cover all the
possibilities considered during the project. Therefore, a more complete numerical
example was also successfully solved using the computer model of a rotor with
characteristics similar to those of a real turbine, and whose unbalanced distribution was
not initially known by this author.

The dissertation presents several texts dealing with the freedom of assembly in international
human rights law, foreign law and the Brazilian constitutional law. It is not mere reproduction
of normative statements, includes research the legal discourse developed around that
fundamental freedom by doctrine and jurisprudence in the various protection systems, while
making a critical reflection, as befits academic research. This bias is related to the perspective
of legal effect. On the other hand, from the perspective of social effectiveness, by intuitively
notice the growing recurrence to the use of public space from the streets as a form of
collective action with extensive diversity of repertoire and considerable consequences,
academic study presents several episodes related to the demonstrations in Brazil and other
countries illustrative for illustrative and representative title. The purpose is to understand the
limits and possibilities of this fundamental freedom, closely linked to the development of

Não se trata de mera reprodução de enunciados normativos, inclui a pesquisa o discurso jurídico desenvolvido em torno dessa liberdade fundamental pela doutrina e pela jurisprudência nos diversos sistemas de proteção, sem deixar de efetuar uma reflexão crítica, como é próprio de uma pesquisa acadêmica. Esse viés está relacionado à perspectiva da eficácia jurídica. Por outro lado, na perspectiva da efetividade social, ao se notar intuitivamente a crescente recorrência ao uso do espaço público das ruas como forma de ação coletiva com extensa diversidade de repertórios e consequências consideráveis, o estudo acadêmico apresenta vários episódios referentes a manifestações públicas no Brasil e em outros países a título ilustrativo e representativo. Já os consumidores utilitários vêem as compras como algo de necessário. O estudo investiga a relação entre o hedonismo e o utilitarismo com a experiência de compra em centros comerciais e ruas. This paper adresses the issue of hedonism and utilitarism in shopping centers and streets. The consumer experience incorporates several aspects, which have among consumers, different meanings. For the hedonic consumers, shopping is a source of gratification. For the utilitarian consumers, shopping as a something necessary. The study investigates the relationship between hedonism and utilitarism with the shopping experience in shopping centers and streets.

As corridas de homozigose, do inglês “Runs of homozygosity” (ROH), são segmentos homozigóticos contínuos que estão presentes em indivíduos e populações. A habilidade desses segmentos em elucidar sobre eventos genéticos populacionais torna-os uma ferramenta capaz de prover informações valiosas a respeito da evolução demográfica de uma população ao longo do tempo. Além disso, informações amplas do genoma fornecem subsídios relevantes para compreender a constituição genética de um animal por meio da caracterização dos ROH, constituindo uma metodologia acurada para manter a diversidade genética em diversas populações animais. O objetivo deste estudo foi (i) acessar a autozigosidade do genoma de bovinos da raça Gir Leiteiro a fim de caracterizar os padrões de ROH; (ii) prospectar genes em ROH compartilhados por mais de 50% da população, e por fim (iii) comparar as estimativas de endogamia calculadas a partir da proporção genômica em homozigose (FROH), da matriz genômica de parentesco G (FGRM) e do pedigree tradicional (FPED). Animais da raça Gir Leiteiro foram genotipados com o BovineHD BeadChip (Illumina Inc., San Diego, CA, USA) que contêm 777.962 SNPs (n=582), BovineSNP50 BeadChip (Illumina Inc., San Diego, CA, USA) contendo 54.609 SNPs (n=1664) e GGP-LD Indicus (Geneseek® Genomic Profiler Indicus 30K) que contêm 27.533 SNPs (n=662). Todos os genótipos foram imputados para o painel BovineHD BeadChip (Illumina Inc., San Diego, CA, USA). SNPs sem posição definida ou mapeados nos cromossomos sexuais foram removidos do conjunto de dados. Após a edição, 2908 animais e 735,236 SNPs foram mantidos para as análises. Os ROH foram identificados por meio do software PLINK v1.07 considerando os seguintes parâmetros: uma janela deslizante de 50 SNPs, o número mínimo de SNPs consecutivos incluídos em um ROH foi 100, o comprimento mínimo de um ROH foi ajustado para 1 Mb, o intervalo máximo entre SNPs homozigóticos consecutivos foi de 500 kb, uma densidade de 1 SNP por 50 kb, cinco SNPs com genótipos faltantes e um genótipo heterozigoto. O FPED foi estimado por meio do software INBUPGF90. Para cada animal foi calculado um FROH (FROH1-2 Mb, FROH2-4 Mb, FROH4-8 Mb, FROH8-16 Mb e FROH>16 Mb) com base na distribuição de ROH a partir de cinco comprimentos (ROHj): 1-2, 2-4, 4-8, 8-16 e > 16 Mb, respectivamente. O FGRM foi calculado a partir da diagonal da matriz de relação genômica (G). Os ROH foram identificados em todos os animais, apresentando um número médio de 55,12±10,37 segmentos por animal e um comprimento médio de 3,17 Mb. Segmentos curtos (ROH1-2 Mb) foram abundantes nos genomas, representando cerca de 60% de todos os segmentos identificados, no entanto, cobriram apenas uma pequena proporção do genoma. Nossos resultados demonstraram que em média 7,01% (175,28 Mb) do genoma dessa população é autozigótico. As estimativas de FPED variaram de 0,000 a 0,327 e as de FROH de 0,001 a 0,201. Correlações baixas a moderadas foram observadas entre as estimativas de FPED-FROH e FGRM-FROH, com valores entre -0,16 e 0,59. As correlações entre FROH de diferentes comprimentos e FPED aumentaram com comprimento dos ROH. ROH compartilhados por mais de 50% das amostras foram classificados como ilhas de ROH. Quatorze ilhas de ROH foram identificadas e diversos genes contidos nessas ilhas foram associados com o teor de gordura do leite (DGAT1, CYP11B, EEF1D, INSIG2 e STAT1), involução da glândula mamária (IGFBP7), lactação (CHR e TRAPPC9) e adaptação ao calor (HSF1). Nossos resultados sugerem que (i) as baixas correlações (r<0.44) entre FPED-FROH para segmentos pequenos indicam que o FPED não é adequado para capturar eventos remotos de endogamia. As correlações moderadas (r>0.44) entre segmentos grandes indica que os níveis de autozigosidade derivados dos ROH podem ser utilizados como uma estimativa acurada dos níveis de endogamia; e (ii) ROH podem ser utilizados para identificar regiões genômicas sob seleção, uma vez que várias regiões compartilhadas estavam associadas com características de leite e adaptação.
Runs of homozygosity (ROH) are continuous homozygous segments that are common in individuals and populations. The ability of these segments to give insight into a population's genetic events makes them a useful tool to provide information about the demographic evolution of a population over time. Additionally, genome-wide information provides valuable information to comprehend the animal’s genome based on ROH, being and accurate tool to maintain diversity and fitness in livestock populations. The aim of this study was (i) to access genome-wide autozygosity to identify and characterize ROH patterns in Gyr dairy cattle genome; (ii) identify ROH islands for gene content and enrichment in segments shared by more than 50% of the samples, and (iii) compare estimates of molecular inbreeding calculated from ROH (FROH), GRM approach (FGRM), and from pedigree-based coefficient (FPED). Gyr dairy animals were genotyped with the BovineHD BeadChip (Illumina Inc., San Diego, CA, USA), that contains 777,962 bialleleic SNPs markers (n=582); the BovineSNP50 BeadChip (Illumina Inc., San Diego, CA, USA), containing 54,609 SNPs (n=1664); and with the GGP-LD Indicus (Geneseek® Genomic Profiler Indicus 30K), that contains 27,533 bialleleic SNPs markers (n=662). All genotypes were imputed to the BovineHD BeadChip (Illumina Inc., San Diego, CA, USA). SNPs unsigned to any chromosome and mapped to sexual chromosomes were removed from the dataset. After editing, 2908 animals and 735,236 SNPs were retained for the analyses. ROH were identified using PLINK v1.07 considering the following parameters: a sliding window of 50 SNPs, the minimum number of consecutive SNPs included in a ROH was 100, the minimum length of a ROH was set to 1 Mb, the maximum gap between consecutive homozygous SNPs was 500 kb, a density of 1 SNP per 50 kb, and a maximum of five SNPs with missing genotypes and up to one heterozygous genotype were allowed in a ROH. FPED was estimated through the software INBUPGF90. For each animal FROH (FROH1-2 Mb, FROH2-4 Mb, FROH4-8 Mb, FROH8-16 Mb, and FROH>16 Mb) was calculated based on ROH distribution of five minimum different lengths (ROHj): 1-2, 2-4, 4-8, 8-16, and >16 Mb, respectively. FGRM was calculated from the diagonal of the genomic relationship matrix (G). ROH were identified in all animals, with an average number of 55.12±10.37 segments and a mean length of 3.17 Mb. Short segments (ROH1-2 Mb) were abundant through the genomes, accounting for 60% of all segments identified, however, they just covered a small proportion of the genome. Our results suggest that on average 7.01% (175.28Mb) of the genome of this population is autozygous. FPED estimates ranged from 0.000 to 0.327 and FROH from 0.001 to 0.201. Low to moderate correlations were observed between FPED-FROH and FGRM-FROH, with values ranging from -0.16 to 0.59. Correlations between FROH from different lengths and FPED increased with ROH length. ROH shared by more than 50% of the samples were chosen as an indication of a possible ROH islands throughout the genome, and 14 regions were identified. Several genes inside those ROH islands were associated with milk fat content (DGAT1, CYP11B, EEF1D, INSIG2, and STAT1), mammary gland involution (IGFBP7), lactation (CHR and TRAPPC9), and heat adaptation (HSF1). Our results suggest that (i) low correlations (r<0.44) between FPED-FROH for small segments indicate that FPED estimates are not the most suitable method to capture ancient inbreeding. Moderate correlations (r>0.44) between larger ROH indicate that the levels of autozygosity derived from ROH can be used as an accurate estimator of individual inbreeding levels, and (ii) ROH might be used to identify genomic regions under selection as several overlapping regions were associated with dairy and adaptive traits.

Rolê, in urban slang means to walk around, to go for a walk. Following this definition, this research walks through files posted by urban writers, in the great computer‟s world wide net. The technological advance allowed great changes in the way we communicate to each other. The spaces for human relationship have spread, and are also cyberspace and the rolê now can be digital. To comprehend this dive in the virtual, present in every generation of the XXI century, it is necessary to get to know the origins of the internet e also concepts which refer to the virtual space and the changes in communication towards the digital technological means. The approaches presented here depart from historicities, one about the tags/pixos/graffiti and, in parallel, about the great virtual net. in the arts field, before the internet, some artist developed a world wide connection of files exchange, through the post; highlighted here the Fluxus group, as one of the pioneers. Among innumerous files, pieces of art, photos and cards circulated, which provoked ruptures and a series of transformations in the art institutions and allowed a historical record. In this flow of postal, conceptual, art, the work of Cildo Meireles and Paulo Bruscky consolidated, in Brazil, an artistic production from autonomic spaces, and promoted alternatives circuits of information. Previous to the internet, this artists published their pieces with political and symbolic information and, even towards a military regime, it was possible the circulation of the information among the social environment, using the mass media channels and the traditional exchange systems. In the same way, the urban writers, autonomous, made the polyphonies circulate the digital using the great net as an information exchange channel, as a great advertising, activism and political protagonism tool
Rolê na gíria urbana quer dizer caminhar, dar uma volta. Seguindo esta definição, esta pesquisa caminha por arquivos postados pelos escritores urbanos, nas vias da grande rede mundial de computadores. O avanço tecnológico permitiu grandes mudanças na maneira de nos comunicarmos. Os espaços de relacionamento humano se estenderam, e também são ciberespaço e o rolê agora pode ser também digital. Para compreender este mergulho no virtual, presente em toda a geração do século XXI, é necessário conhecer a origem da internet e também conceitos referentes ao espaço virtual e às mudanças na comunicação diante dos meios tecnológicos digitais. As abordagens aqui apresentadas partem de historicidades, uma sobre os tags/pixos/graffiti e, paralelamente, sobre a grande rede virtual. No campo das artes, anteriores a internet, alguns artistas desenvolveram uma conexão mundial de troca de arquivos, por meio do correio; destaca-se aqui o grupo Fluxus como um dos pioneiros. Dentre os inúmeros arquivos, circulavam obras de artes, fotografias e cartões, que provocaram rupturas e devires nas instituições das artes e possibilitaram um registro histórico. Nesse fluxo da arte postal, conceitual, o trabalho de Cildo Meireles e Paulo Bruscky consolidou, no Brasil, uma produção artística a partir de espaços autônomos, e promoveu circuitos alternativos de informação. Precursores à internet, esses artistas publicaram suas obras com informações de caráter político e simbólico e, mesmo diante de um regime militar, foi possível a circulação da informação pelo meio social, usando os próprios canais de mass media e os sistemas tradicionais de troca. Da mesma forma os escritores urbanos, autônomos, fizeram circular suas polifonias pelo digital usando a grande rede como um canal de troca de informação, como uma grande ferramenta publicitária, ativismo e protagonização política
