Abstract:
In thePolitics, Aristotle maintains, contrary to his predecessors, that there is a distinctive mode of authority that husbands should exercise over their wives. He even coins a word for it: γαμιϰή, ‘the marital art’ or ‘marital rule’ (Pol. 1.3, 1253b8–10; 1.12, 1259a37–9). Marital rule is supposed to differ from the authority that fathers have over their children and from the kind of rule that citizens exercise over one another. Yet it is not clear whether there is any conceptual space between political and paternal rule for marital rule to occupy. Where fathers rule and children are ruled, ci

This paper describes a method of rule extraction from trained artificial neural networks. The statement of the problem is given. The aim of rule extraction procedure and suitable neural networks for rule extraction are outlined. The RULEX rule extraction algorithm is discussed that is based on the radial basis function (RBF) neural network. The extracted rules can help discover and analyze the rule set hidden in data sets. The paper contains an implementation example, which is shown through standalone IRIS data set.

Abstract:
An intriguing finding in the hypothesis-testing literature concerns a large increase in the proportion of subjects who discover a rule when they are asked to determine two rules rather than that rule alone. This finding is based on Wason's (1960) “2 4 6” task, in which subjects try to discover a rule (ascending numbers) by generating and testing number triples. They are initially given an example (“2, 4, 6”) of the rule that leads to overly specific hypotheses. With single-goal (SG) instructions, subjects try to discover the correct rule and are told whether each triple proposed fits the rule.

Abstract:
Empire is best understood not as a singular territorial or economic entity or an arrangement of flows and accumulation of stocks but, rather, as a type of rule. That is, it is the relationships between ruler and ruled, and the mechanisms of rule, that are important in contemporary discussions of “empire.” In today's American Empire, we see the mixing of two forms of rule: what is often called “neo-liberal institutionalism” with “new sovereignty.” In this commentary, I discuss the implications of such rule for global environmental politics.

We propose a framework for temporal rule learning from datasets, which capitalises on the availability of increasingly mature Datalog rule learners. Our approach is based on the idea of splitting a temporal dataset into windows, extracting static rules from each window with an off-the-shelf Datalog rule learner, and then combining the obtained static rules into temporal rules corresponding to the whole dataset. Temporal rules generated by our approach are expressed in DatalogMTL and are assigned time-sensitive confidence scores. We have implemented our approach in a system MTLearn compatible w

Abstract:
In early years, paraphrase generation typically adopts rule-based methods, which are interpretable and able to make global transformations to the original sentence. But they struggle to produce fluent paraphrases. Recently, deep neural networks have shown impressive performances in generating paraphrases. However, the current neural models are black boxes and are prone to make local modifications to the inputs. In this work, we combine these two approaches into RULER, a novel approach that performs abstract rule learning for paraphrasing. The key idea is to explicitly learn generalizable rules

The word freedom is used constantly, but little understood; to understand it, it is important to see the State as a civil association of individuals, where different ways of living and purposes coexist. This coexistence depends on a rule of law, which allows individuals to pursue their conception of the good life consistent with the rules of the association. The freedom requires a rule of law, which allows free action and cooperation of individuals in the market and thus benefits the economy.
