Abstract:
Metasearch engine is a system that provides unified access to multiple existing search engines. After the results returned from all used component search engines are collected, the metasearch system merges the results into a single ranked list which is expected to be better than the results of the best of the participating search systems. The success of a metasearch engine depends mainly on their rank aggregation method. The system is a better one, if the aggregated list of results displayed before the user satisfies the user with his information need. In this paper, we discuss the development of a metasearch engine that performs user feedback based metasearching using modified rough set based aggregation. Metasearching using the modified rough set based aggregation is performed in two phases namely the ranking rule learning phase and the rank aggregation phase. For each query in the training set, we mine the ranking rules and select the best rules-set by performing cross-validation test. Once the system is trained, we use the best rule set to get the overall ranking for the results returned from different search systems in response to other queries. We also present few snapshots of our system.

The heart of expert system is the knowledge base that determines the power of expert system and search engine space. The one important form of this knowledge is the production rule. The premises of these rules are the heart of production rules, therefore, the reduction of these premises is very useful to reduce the time and space in search engine. In this paper an approach will be presented to reduce the premises of production rules using association rules algorithm especially Apriori algorithm. Applying this approach gives a logical premise reduction which plays a good role in the search engine.

Abstract:
Accession rules based on or similar to Article XVI of the 1948 Geneva Convention still affect the position of aircraft engine lessors and financiers. There is further uncertainty caused by the different conflict of laws rules in relation to aircraft, i.e. the lex situs, the lex registri and the lex actus. The outcome of a dispute regarding the title to an aircraft engine may depend on the rules of private international law of the lex fora. The status of an aircraft engine will be assessed differently if the dispute is brought before an English court (applying the lex situs), a US court (applying the lex actus) or a Dutch court (applying the lex registri). In addition, the different treatment of aircraft engines under the 1948 Geneva Convention and the Cape Town Convention (CTC) respectively underlines the potential problems for engine lessors and financiers. In this publication, the author examines and analyses accession rules, the main conflict of laws rules and the undesirable implications of the absence of a uniform body of rules regarding the property regime for aircraft.

Abstract:
Defining the semantics of rule-based Web applications through model-driven developmentRule languages and inference engines incorporate reasoning capabilities to Web information systems. This paper presents an approach for the specification and development of Web applications performing the usual functionalities of data management and incorporating a rule engine for reasoning capabilities. The proposed approach is based on the definition of a high-level representation of the semantics of rule-based applications through a formalism for conceptual modeling combining lightweight ontologies and production rules. These models are used as the source for a model-driven method that applies several transformations to conceptual models generating the rule-based Web application code in an automatic process. As a result, the rule-based Web application embeds a rule engine suitable for deducing information by applying an inference process. The structure of the information managed by the Web application is based on ontology classes, whereas the logical expressions applied in reasoning are obtained from production rules of the model. A rule-based Web application has been developed and evaluated using a supporting tool that implements the ideas presented in this paper.

Abstract:
Purpose Currently, in many countries, aviation safety regulations allow piston engines exploitation above Time Between Overhaul (TBO) recommended by manufacturers. Upon fulfillment of certain requirements, which are already included in the manufacturers’ documentation, TBO extension is granted. National Aviation Authority has approved exploitation of piston engines to something like quasi on-condition maintenance, which has no technical proof behind. This leads to the conclusion that the current, simple way of the engine’s life extension is not the best solution for maintaining flight safety. Aircraft piston engines TBO extension requires changes in the current exploitation system. Design/methodology/approach The paper provides methodology for aircraft piston engines on-condition exploitation based on engine flight parameters (from cruise and takeoff) and engine oil particles analysis. The paper describes a method of diagnostic limits for certain engine parameters and elements in the oil assignation assuming that they come under rules of normal distribution. Findings It has been found that piston engines installed on maximum takeoff mass <5,700 kg class aircraft are the second biggest contributor as a source of aviation events, thereby having a significant impact on aviation safety. Engine flight parameters and elements content in the oil meet Gaussian rules. Practical implications Introduction of the engine on-condition exploitation into operation practices reduces the operator’s engine direct maintenance cost and increases technical knowledge of the employees and has a positive impact on flight safety. Originality/value It is the first scientific description in Poland, which proposes an empirically proved methodology of the aviation piston engines on-condition exploitation.

Abstract:
With the rapid development of economy, the requirement for electricity supply is growing dramatically, and the consumers are claiming for higher power supply quality with less outage. Scheduled outage makes a major part of power outage, and it is mainly caused by power grid construction and power equipment maintenance. Scheduled outage has a lot of concerns, such as grid structure, potential outage loss, critical consumers or important occasions, and such factors are changing rapidly with the quick development of distribution network. As a result, the validation and optimization of scheduled outage becomes complicated. Rule engine [1] can describe business rules by pre-defined language, separate such rules from functional code [2], and execute them when trigger condition is satisfied. The application of rule engine can increase system adaptability to business variation, and decrease the system coupling and maintenance cost. With the application of rule engine in scheduled outage management, outage plan can be effectively validated and flexibly optimized, and the outage loss and consumer complaints could be significantly decreased.

Abstract:
Although OWL (Web Ontology Language) and SWRL (Semantic Web Rule Language) add considerable expressiveness to the Semantic Web, they do have expressive limitations. For some reasoning problems, it is necessary to modify existing knowledge in an ontology. This kind of problem cannot be fully resolved by OWL and SWRL, as they only support monotonic inference. In this paper, the authors propose SWRLx (Extended Semantic Web Rule Language) as an extension to the SWRL rules. The set of rules obtained with SWRLx are posted to the Jess engine using rewrite meta-rules. The reason for this combination is that it allows the inference of new knowledge and storing it in the knowledge base. The authors propose a formalism for SWRLx along with its implementation through an adaptation of different object-oriented techniques. The Jess rule engine is used to transform these techniques to the Jess model. The authors include a demonstration that demonstrates the importance of this kind of reasoning. In order to verify their proposal, they use a case study inherent to interpretation of a preventive medical check-up.

Abstract:
A simplified rule-based expert system can be of great use to maintenance engineers involved in on-line health monitoring of aero-engines. The development of a rule base has been done on the following lines: 1 A design and off-design mathematical model of the turbofan has been developed. 2 Healthy and fault-implanted engines have been run at various off-design conditions to see the effect of faults on certain aero-thermodynamic performance parameters, with appropriate selection of independent parameter(s). 3 From these calculated values, fault matrices have been developed for sea-level static conditions taking the net thrust as an independent parameter. 4 From these fault matrices, rules have been developed which form the knowledge core of the expert shell. These rules have been developed for Garrett TFE 731-2, a moderate bypass and overall pressure ratio, generic twin-spool turbofan and so the package (off-design code plus expert system) can serve as a pedagogical tool for training of engineers in the aero-engine industry and academic institutions.

Customer-oriented management of manufacturing systems is crucial in service-oriented production and product service systems. This paper develops the selection of dispatching rules in combination with alternative process flow designs and demand mix, for a maintenance, repair and overhaul center (MRO) of turbo shaft engines, both for complete engines and engine modules. After an initial systematic screening of priority dispatching rules, the design of experiments and discrete-event simulation allows a quantitative analysis of the better rules for the alternative process flows with internal and service metrics. Next, the design of experiments with analysis of variance and the Taguchi approach enables a search for the optimal combination of process flow and dispatching rules. The consideration of extra costs for overdue work orders into the costing breakdown provides a quantitative evaluation of the optimum range of load for the facility. This facilitates the discussion of the significant trade-offs of cost, service, and flexibility in the production system and the operational management alternatives for decision-making.

Abstract:
Game engines are platforms that make it easier to create computer games. They allow you to integrate and combine into single unit individual game elements such as animations, interaction with the user, or detection of collisions between objects. Game engine is a software that facilitates the production of games for platforms such as desktops, consoles, and mobile devices [1]. In addition to specialized editors, game engines provide ready-made functionalities that can be used by users. A great advantage of using the game engine is the possibility of their reuse. Game engines are an example of software isolating rigid logic and game rules, from easily modifiable and expandable components, which can be used repeatedly in a way that does not require great modifications. This article is an attempt to perform a comparative analysis of three engines to create games: CryEngine, Unreal Engine, and Unity. The criteria for comparison will be technical capabilities and factors influencing the popularity and acceptance of engines by users. The aim of this article is to show the strengths and weaknesses of engines and to present the differences between these tools.

Abstract:
This paper follows on from an earlier publication on high-blend-rate binary gasoline-alcohol mixtures and reports results for some equivalent ternary fuels from several investigation streams. In the present work, new findings are presented for high-load operation in a dedicated boosted multi-cylinder engine test facility, for operation in modified production engines, for knock performance in a single-cylinder test engine, and for exhaust particulate emissions at part load using both the prototype multi-cylinder engine and a separate single-cylinder engine. The wide variety of test engines employed have several differences, including their fuel delivery strategies. This range of engine specifications is considered beneficial with regard to the “drop-in fuel” conjecture, since the results presented here bear out the contention, already established in the literature, that when specified according to the known ternary blending rules, such fuels fundamentally perform identically to their binary equivalents in terms of engine performance, and outperform standard gasolines in terms of efficiency. However, in the present work, some differences in particulate emissions performance in direct-injection engines have been found at light load for the tested fuels, with a slight increase in particulate number observed with higher methanol contents than lower. A hypothesis is developed to explain this result but in general it was found that these fuels do not significantly affect PN emissions from such engines. As a result, this investigation supplies further evidence that renewable fuels can be introduced simply into the existing vehicle fleet, with the inherent backwards compatibility that this brings too.

Abstract:
In this paper, we design the fuzzy rules using a modified Nash Genetic Algorithm. Fuzzy rules consist of antecedents and consequents. Because this paper uses the simplified method of Sugeno for the fuzzy inference engine, consequents have not membership functions but constants. Therefore, each fuzzy rule in this paper consists of a membership function in the antecedent and a constant value in the consequent. The main problem in fuzzy systems is how to design the fuzzy rule base. Modified Nash GA coevolves membership functions and parameters in consequents of fuzzy rules. We demonstrate this co-evolutionary algorithm and apply to the design of the fuzzy controller for a mobile robot. From the result of simulation, we compare modified Nash GA with the other co-evolution algorithms and verify the efficacy of this algorithm.

Abstract:
Computation offloading enables intensive computational tasks in edge computing to be separated into multiple computing resources of the server to overcome hardware limitations. Deep learning derives the inference approach based on the learning approach with a volume of data using a sufficient computing resource. However, deploying the domain-specific inference approaches to edge computing provides intelligent services close to the edge of the networks. In this paper, we propose intelligent edge computing by providing a dynamic inference approach for building environment control. The dynamic inference approach is provided based on the rules engine that is deployed on the edge gateway to select an inference function by the triggered rule. The edge gateway is deployed in the entry of a network edge and provides comprehensive functions, including device management, device proxy, client service, intelligent service and rules engine. The functions are provided by microservices provider modules that enable flexibility, extensibility and light weight for offloading domain-specific solutions to the edge gateway. Additionally, the intelligent services can be updated through offloading the microservices provider module with the inference models. Then, using the rules engine, the edge gateway operates an intelligent scenario based on the deployed rule profile by requesting the inference model of the intelligent service provider. The inference models are derived by training the building user data with the deep learning model using the edge server, which provides a high-performance computing resource. The intelligent service provider includes inference models and provides intelligent functions in the edge gateway using a constrained hardware resource based on microservices. Moreover, for bridging the Internet of Things (IoT) device network to the Internet, the gateway provides device management and proxy to enable device access to web clients.

Abstract:
Abstract Digital controllers are utilized for controlling modern gas turbine engines. Firstly, an identified discrete model is built for a micro turbojet engine (MTE) jet cat P200sx. Two controllers are designed, gain scheduling PID and adaptive fuzzy tuned PID controllers are presented in this paper. Analysis of traditional PID and Adaptive fuzzy tuned PID controller applied for micro turbojet engine is presented. According to the fuzzy rules, a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is developed to modify the gains of the PID controller automatically. MATLAB/Simulink is utilized to simulate the complete device consisting of an adaptive fuzzy PID controller, and the micro turbojet engine model. The two controllers’ responses are compared. A comparison of the robustness of each controller against the effect of noise and rejection of disturbance is illustrated. The results showed that, through small rise time, small set time, minimal overshoot, and minimal SteadyState speed error, the PID controller adaptive fuzzy tuned provides better dynamic MTE action and thus superior performance.

Abstract:
The paper discusses a new knowledge representation for rule-based systems called XTT2. It combines decision trees and decision tables forming a transparent and hierarchical visual representation of the decision units linked into a workflow-like structure. There are two levels of abstraction in the XTT2 model: the lower level, where a single knowledge component defined by a set of rules working in the same context is represented by a single decision table, and the higher level, where the structure of the whole knowledge base is considered. This model has a concise formalization which opens up possibility of well-defined, structured design and verification of formal characteristics. Based on the visual XTT2 model, a textual representation of the rule base is generated. A dedicated engine provides a unified run-time environment for the XTT2 rule bases. The focus of the paper is on the formalization of the presented approach. It is based on the so-called ALSV(FD) logic that provides an expressive calculus for rules.

Abstract:
This paper presents a data-based Takagi-Sugeno (T–S) fuzzy modeling approach for aircraft engines in the flight envelope. We propose a series of T–S fuzzy models for engines with flight conditions as premises and engine linear dynamic models as consequences. By engine dynamic clustering, we determine rough T–S fuzzy models to approximate the nonlinear dynamics of engines in the flight envelope. After that, the maximum–minimum distance-based fuzzy c-means (MMD-FCM) algorithm comes to refine the fuzzy rules and the least square method (LSM) comes to identify premise parameters for each single rough model. The proposed MMD-FCM algorithm guarantees the refined results are stable and reasonable, and the identification improves the accuracy of the steady and transient phases. The model verification showed that the T–S fuzzy models for engines had a high accuracy with a steady error less than 5%, and that the root mean squared error (RMSE) of transient errors was less than 8 × 10−4 with good generalization ability in the flight envelope.

Abstract:
We describe a mechanism based on distributed Event-Condition-Action (ECA) rules that supports data coordination in a multidatabase setting. The proposed mechanism includes an ECA rule language and a rule execution engine that transforms rules when they are first posted, and then coordinates their execution. Like traditional ECA rules, our ECA rule language has three parts: an event language, a condition language, and an action language. The event language provides a set of operators with a formal semantics for a multidatabase environment, and which allows a wide variety of composite events. The condition language provides Boolean algebra operators that take as operands either composite or simple conditions. The action language provides a conjunction of simple or composite actions. The execution model partitions rules to more easily manageable forms, distributes them to relevant databases, monitors their execution and composes their evaluations. The mechanism has been designed in a manner that minimizes the number of messages that need to be exchanged over the network. We have also conducted an experimental evaluation to compare the implementation with a naïve centralized execution model. The paper also presents a prototype implementation as well as experimental results on its performance. This work is part of an on-going project intended to develop data coordination techniques for data sharing settings.

Abstract:
Frequently the reliabilities of the linguistic values of the variables in the rule base are becoming important in the modeling of fuzzy systems. Taking into consideration the reliability degree of the fuzzy values of variables of the rules the design of inference mechanism acquires importance. For this purpose, Z number based fuzzy rules that include constraint and reliability degrees of information are constructed. Fuzzy rule interpolation is presented for designing of an inference engine of fuzzy rule-based system. The mathematical background of the fuzzy inference system based on interpolative mechanism is developed. Based on interpolative inference process Z number based fuzzy controller for control of dynamic plant has been designed. The transient response characteristic of designed controller is compared with the transient response characteristic of the conventional fuzzy controller. The obtained comparative results demonstrate the suitability of designed system in control of dynamic plants.

Abstract:
This paper points out the capabilities of fully decoupled fuzzy controller which introduces simple design approach to deal with the coupling effects in controlling two spools, mixed exhausts turbofan engines. The decoupling is performed through proper selection of input parameters to the controller. Digital nonlinear engine/control system simulation is used to construct the fuzzy rules depending on simple logic. The performance of this controller is compared with that of an optimal controller representing efficient classical and conventional techniques. The decoupled fuzzy control system produces favorable transient strategies that other conventional controllers can not attempt due to its inherent proportionality characteristics. It displays improvements in surge margin for both fan and compressor, and temperature margin with almost similar response time during acceleration. Also, the proposed controller has the capabilities to increase the response speed during deceleration independently from acceleration transient.

Controlling access to the Web services of public agencies and private corporations depends primarily on specifying and deploying functional security rules to satisfy strict regulations imposed by governments, particularly in the financial and health sectors. This paper focuses on one aspect of the SELKIS and EB3SEC projects related to the security of Web-based information systems, namely, the automatic transformation of security rules into WS-BPEL (or BPEL, for short) processes. The former are instantiated from security-rule patterns written in a graphical notation, called ASTD that is close to statecharts. The latter are executed by a BPEL engine integrated into a policy decision point, which is a component of a policy enforcement manager similar to that proposed in the XACML standard.
