Abstract:
The article attempts to compare two treatments of Russianisms in nowadays Polish practical lexicography. Many words in this group are registered in Polish dictionaries of foreign words, while at the same time being recorded in defining dictionaries. Therefore it raises a question about the linguistic status of some components of that lexicological category. Discrepancies in dictionary qualifications of Russianisms were used by the author to draw a few critical remarks about practices when forming word lists in dictionaries of foreign words.

The article addresses the issue of the professionalism of cultural-language recommendations, criteria for lexical standardization, and the assessment of words as acceptable or unacceptable, considering their origin — whether native or borrowed. In the context of the trend towards differentiation from the Russian language, the authors of cultural-linguistic recommendations urge avoiding linguistic units shared with Russian and replacing them with different equivalents. It is shown that this trend extends not only to genuine Russianisms but also to words of East Slavic, Common Slavic, and even I

Loanwords are often found in the works of the great Kazakh poet Abai. Abai, uses such words more, especially in words of edification. The thinker, who has a good command of the Turkic-Chagatai written language, uses Arabic-Persian borrowings in his works in a version close to the original, as in a book style. Therefore, borrowed words from Eastern languages are much more common in Abai than Russianisms. Words borrowed from the Russian language are few, and many of them occur in a form adapted to the Kazakh spoken language, as in the written language of the late XIX century. Since the poet ofte

While the knowledge traditions of some non-Western empires have begun receiving substantial historical treatment, the Russian Empire has been little considered by historians of science and technology. This gap in the literature is particularly surprising in the case of the earth and mining sciences given Russia’s dominance in early modern Eurasian metallurgy.
