Abstract:
Psychological researchers have advanced several instruments to measure meaning. Philosophers have debated the objective versus subjective status of meaning in life and on the global versus individual or personal aspects of meaning. In this chapter, the authors make use of an emerging consensus in the psychology literature concerning a tripartite structure of meaning as cognitive coherence, affective significance, and motivational direction. They enrich this understanding with important philosophical distinctions to distinguish subdomains within this tripartite understanding. The authors use relevant philosophical distinctions to classify existing measurement items into a seven-fold structure intended to more comprehensively assess an individual’s sense of meaning. The proposed measure, with three items in each subdomain drawn from previous scales, constitutes what is put forward as the Comprehensive Measure of Meaning to hopefully enrich the empirical research on the assessment of, and on the causes and effects of, having a sense of meaning.

Abstract:
Many philosophers find the prospect of working with researchers in the social and behavioral sciences exciting, in part because they hope that these researchers might be able to measure well-being as the philosopher conceives of it. In this chapter, the author considers how the measurement of well-being, as it is conceived of by philosophers, might be facilitated. She proposes that existing scales can be employed for this purpose, and she supports this conclusion through an in-depth discussion of an example. The author explains how a scale of psychological well-being validated in more than 750 empirical studies may be employed to measure the extent to which a person has realized an ostensible basic good. This discussion is illustrative of the general method that may be employed to bring empirical researchers and philosophers into contact in a way that will facilitate the measurement of well-being as philosophers conceive of it.

Abstract:
Green infrastructure (GI) planning is becoming a pre-eminent approach for delivering essential goods and services to people while reversing trends such as landscape and habitat fragmentation. By means of sound ecosystems delivering multiple services and benefits, GI can contribute to public health, including physical, psychological, and social aspects. These services and benefits are provided at the local, regional, and national scales, and are therefore closely knit to planning and policymaking at various levels. The Green Infrastructure Framework was conceptualized to incorporate the multifunctional, multiscale, and temporal dimensions of GI and to demonstrate the associations between ecosystem services and human well-being. It stresses biodiversity, social and territorial cohesion, and sustainable development as key contributions of GI, creating the environmental settings for well-being and community health. Adopting the GI approach and its characteristics of connectivity (by connecting ecological and social systems), accessibility, and functionality in urban planning may contribute to healthier societies.

Minority groups within the United States continuously endure stress placed upon them by the dominant culture. The ongoing stresses of racism, prejudice, and discrimination have lasting and deleterious effects on minorities’ physical and emotional well-being. In this chapter, we provide an overview of the concept of minority stress theory and describe the various sociological and psychological constructs contributing to its development. We then examine the various elements of internalized prejudice, review validated measurement scales used to quantify internalized prejudice in minority populations, and present evidence on the role of internalized prejudice in a number of psychiatric conditions. We discuss the concept of intersectionality and its implications for mental health. At the end of this chapter, we provide clinical recommendations to address the complexities of minority stress theory and internalized prejudice in psychiatric illness.

At present, the implementation of the concepts of tellurism and sacred geometry in the schools of architecture is neither obvious nor simple. It starts with the historical heritage of patterns that are shaped and molded according to professorships that have worked independently in territories at different scales within building and urbanism. Moreover, they share the same premise of the occupation of space and creation. In this study, the authors focus on the intrinsic value of the land, its energy, and how this affects not only the overall design of the building, but also the interior of a healthy dwelling. The psychological, psychosomatic, and symptomatic effects on the human being are related to the intrinsic use of a dwelling, as well as to the building's placement on the land. The work method in this investigation has implemented a comparative case study carried out in El Pardo and Carabanchel.
