ABSTRACT We used a murine model of catheter-associated biofilm formation to determine whether the mutation of the staphylococcal accessory regulator (sarA) has an impact on the susceptibility of established Staphylococcus aureus biofilms to treatment with daptomycin in vivo. The experiments were done with two clinical isolates, one of which (UAMS-1) was obtained from the bone of a patient suffering from osteomyelitis, while the other (UAMS-1625) is an isolate of the USA300 clonal lineage of community-acquired methicillin (meticillin)-resistant S. aureus. UAMS-1625 had a reduced capacity to form a biofilm in vivo compared to that of UAMS-1 (P = 0.0015), but in both cases the mutation of sarA limited biofilm formation compared to that of the corresponding parent strain (P ≤ 0.001). The mutation of sarA did not affect the daptomycin MIC for either strain, but it did result in increased susceptibility in vivo in the context of an established biofilm. Specifically, daptomycin treatment resulted in the clearance of detectable bacteria from <10% of the catheters colonized with the parent strains, while treatment with an equivalent daptomycin concentration resulted in the clearance of 46.4% of the catheters colonized with the UAMS-1 sarA mutant and 69.1% of the catheters colonized with the UAMS-1625 sarA mutant. In the absence of daptomycin treatment, mice with catheters colonized with the UAMS-1625 parent strain also developed skin lesions in the region adjacent to the implanted catheter. No such lesions were observed in any other experimental group, including untreated mice containing catheters colonized with the UAMS-1625 sarA mutant.

Abstract:
A highly dispersive dual core quasi-periodic photonic crystal fiber is proposed for chromatic dispersion compensation. The dispersion for the dual concentric core fiber is optimized to compensate the chromatic dispersion with a high negative dispersion, accomplishing the communication bandwidth from S-band (1460 nm) to L-band (1625 nm). By precise control of structural parameter we have achieved a maximum dispersion of −18,838 ps/nm-km with the phase matching wavelength centred around 1.55 μm. We also numerically investigate the influence of structural parameter and doping effects and its response on peak dispersion parameter.

Ce travail a comme objectif mettre en ?vidence la richesse de la po?tique d Anna de Noailles. Dans notre ?tude sur l oeuvre l ombre des jours, nous nous sommes apper?ue que l auteur poss?de son propre style, elle ne cherchait pas ? imiter un mod?le litt?raire particulier ? ses contemporains. Dans son esth?tique, nous avons remarqu? le refuge dans la nature, dans le pass? et aussi une forte ?vocation sensorielle. L univers lyrique de l oeuvre noaillienne est represent? ? travers des paysages bucoliques qui ?voquent des saisons. Malgr? ce retour ? la nature, nous avons d?couvert des ?l?ments que caract?risent la po?sie moderne, comme la luminosit?, la qu?te de l expansion, la superposition des images, entre autres. L espace de l ombre des jours est grandiloquent, la po?tesse mentionne fr?quemment son d?sir d expansion et pour cette raison, nous trouvons dans les po?mes des lieux ouverts, o? le contact direct avec la lumi?re, l air et l eau devient possible. Tratamos inicialmente da contextualiza??o social e cultural do final do s?culo XIX e in?cio do XX. Abstract:
Abstract For the low-speed liquid injected into the high-speed strong turbulent gas flow in the same direction, the atomization is a transient-intensive spray, and there are many factors affecting and controlling the atomization. In this paper, the distribution and characteristics of the liquid breakup in the air atomized flow field are analyzed. A stochastic immersed model to simulate the liquid core is developed, in which, the liquid core is regarded as an immersed porous medium with a random structure, and the probability of existence is used to simulate the position of the liquid core. The initial fragmentation mechanism of the air blast atomization is applied as the global variables of the stochastic process. Using the above stochastic immersed model, combined with the Large Eddy Simulation method, the numerical simulation of the downstream flow field of a coaxial jet air atomizing nozzle is carried out. Additional force is added to the momentum equation in the LES model. Instantaneous air velocity at the air-liquid interface is characterized by instantaneous liquid phase velocity at the same time. The size of the initial atomized droplet satisfies a probability distribution, and once the large droplets are formed, the Lagrangian method is used to track the droplets. The comparison between the simulation results and the experimental results shows that this stochastic immersed model can quickly capture the information of length and position of the liquid nucleus. When the gas-liquid momentum ratio M is 3∼10000, the liquid core length can be predicted more accurately. When M&amp;gt;10, the prediction result is much better than phenomenological model. This model is capable of capturing flow field structures such as recirculation zones and large-scale vortices. The results of initial spray angle from experiment expression give slightly better agreement with this model. Increasing the momentum ratio leads to decreasing of the initial spray angle. The particle size of the droplets near the nozzle can be accurately predicted, especially when the gas velocity is large (bigger than 60 m/s), and the average diameter prediction error of the droplets is less than 10%.
