Abstract:
ABSTRACT We used a murine model of catheter-associated biofilm formation to determine whether the mutation of the staphylococcal accessory regulator (sarA) has an impact on the susceptibility of established Staphylococcus aureus biofilms to treatment with daptomycin in vivo. The experiments were done with two clinical isolates, one of which (UAMS-1) was obtained from the bone of a patient suffering from osteomyelitis, while the other (UAMS-1625) is an isolate of the USA300 clonal lineage of community-acquired methicillin (meticillin)-resistant S. aureus. UAMS-1625 had a reduced capacity to form a biofilm in vivo compared to that of UAMS-1 (P = 0.0015), but in both cases the mutation of sarA limited biofilm formation compared to that of the corresponding parent strain (P ≤ 0.001). The mutation of sarA did not affect the daptomycin MIC for either strain, but it did result in increased susceptibility in vivo in the context of an established biofilm. Specifically, daptomycin treatment resulted in the clearance of detectable bacteria from <10% of the catheters colonized with the parent strains, while treatment with an equivalent daptomycin concentration resulted in the clearance of 46.4% of the catheters colonized with the UAMS-1 sarA mutant and 69.1% of the catheters colonized with the UAMS-1625 sarA mutant. In the absence of daptomycin treatment, mice with catheters colonized with the UAMS-1625 parent strain also developed skin lesions in the region adjacent to the implanted catheter. No such lesions were observed in any other experimental group, including untreated mice containing catheters colonized with the UAMS-1625 sarA mutant.

Abstract:
A highly dispersive dual core quasi-periodic photonic crystal fiber is proposed for chromatic dispersion compensation. The dispersion for the dual concentric core fiber is optimized to compensate the chromatic dispersion with a high negative dispersion, accomplishing the communication bandwidth from S-band (1460 nm) to L-band (1625 nm). By precise control of structural parameter we have achieved a maximum dispersion of −18,838 ps/nm-km with the phase matching wavelength centred around 1.55 μm. We also numerically investigate the influence of structural parameter and doping effects and its response on peak dispersion parameter.

A vertical polarized antenna array operating in frequency bands 423–443, 840–930, 1525–1625, 2400–2500 and 5725–5850 MHz is presented. The radiators are made in a shape of stacked patches excited by metal strips located under the radiating patches. The radiating patch of the lowest frequency band 423–443 MHz is made in the form of a printed circuit board and acts as a reflector for radiators operating at other frequency bands. Such two-storey structure provides small dimensions of the antenna array. The results of simulation are compared with the measured radiation patterns and S parametes of the manufactured antenna array.

Abstract:
Context. Kepler and Hubble photometry of a total of four transits by the Jupiter-sized exoplanet Kepler-1625 b have recently been interpreted to show evidence of a Neptune-sized exomoon. The key arguments were an apparent drop in stellar brightness after the planet’s October 2017 transit seen with Hubble and its 77.8 min early arrival compared to a strictly periodic orbit. Aims. The profound implications of this first possible exomoon detection and the physical oddity of the proposed moon, i.e., its giant radius prompt us to examine the planet-only hypothesis for the data and to investigate the reliability of the Bayesian information criterion (BIC) used for detection. Methods. We combined Kepler’s Pre-search Data Conditioning Simple Aperture Photometry (PDCSAP) with the previously published Hubble light curve. In an alternative approach, we performed a synchronous polynomial detrending and fitting of the Kepler data combined with our own extraction of the Hubble photometry. We generated five million parallel-tempering Markov chain Monte Carlo (PTMCMC) realizations of the data with both a planet-only model and a planet-moon model, and compute the BIC difference (ΔBIC) between the most likely models, respectively. Results. The ΔBIC values of − 44.5 (using previously published Hubble data) and − 31.0 (using our own detrending) yield strong statistical evidence in favor of an exomoon. Most of our orbital realizations, however, are very different from the best-fit solutions, suggesting that the likelihood function that best describes the data is non-Gaussian. We measure a 73.7 min early arrival of Kepler-1625 b for its Hubble transit at the 3 σ level. This deviation could be caused by a 1 d data gap near the first Kepler transit, stellar activity, or unknown systematics, all of which affect the detrending. The radial velocity amplitude of a possible unseen hot Jupiter causing the Kepler-1625 b transit timing variation could be approximately 100 m s−1. Conclusions. Although we find a similar solution to the planet-moon model to that previously proposed, careful consideration of its statistical evidence leads us to believe that this is not a secure exomoon detection. Unknown systematic errors in the Kepler/Hubble data make the ΔBIC an unreliable metric for an exomoon search around Kepler-1625 b, allowing for alternative interpretations of the signal.

Abstract This work is focused on determining the capability of production equipment in Volkswagen Slovakia, a.s. during the moulding of a car door. There were taken 150 samples from the moulding process that followed each other. Values were recorded on a Wenzel RAplus 1625 measuring machine. Subsequently, process stability was verified. It showed that measured values had a stable average value, and the process did not show irregularities in the diagrams of the X card and s card. After verification of stability, the values of Cm and Cmk were calculated, which exceeded the minimum requirement of 1.66 and 1.67, and the requirements for the capability of production equipment have thereby been met.

In the same year that these etchings were published,Dickman also finished a large birds-eye view of Gdánsk. The setof town views and the panorama were both republished by ClaesJanszoon Visscher in 1625.The author of the article discusses the relationship betweenDickman and Visscher and their collaboration on this project, aswell as their wider artistic relationship. Dickman seems to have beentrained in the Netherlands, the etchings proving his familiarity withVisscher´s topographical prints.

Abstract:
AbstractActive galaxies are most luminous objects in the universe whose spectra are characterized by both permitted and forbidden emission line features. The spectra of Seyfert 1 galaxies and quasars contain strong and broad emission lines of wide ranging ionization potentials. The velocity widths of the lines range from a minimum of ≈ 500 km/s for narrow lines to a maximum of 20,000 km/sec for broad lines. The UV spectra of the active galaxies contain strong and broad emission lines such as Lyα, NV, SiIV, OIV], CIV, CIII] and MgII lines. The widths of the broad lines are attributed to the differential doppler shifts of the emission lines due to the bulk motions of individual clumpy gas clouds in the BLR region. We have anlysed UV spectra of Seyfert 1 galaxies and quasars from IUE satellite archival database to understand the nature of dependence of the emission line properties with the underlying UV continuum. We have undertaken line luminosity correlation studies for Lyα and CIV lines with their underlying UV continuum luminosity at 1125Å, 1425Å & 1625Å. The IUE archival spectra have been reduced for galactic reddening using the E(B-V) and NHI values published continuum luminosity has been observed at 1125Å, 1425Å & 1625Å. The Lyα line line has exhibited strongest linear correlation wavelengths while CIV line has shown at 1425Å and 2625Å wavelengths. These results are empirically consistent with the predictions of the general multi-component photo-ionization models suggesting that the central strong UV continuum has been reprocessed by the clumpy gas clouds of the broad emission region (BLR). A detailed account of the data reduction, UV flux measurement and the significance of line-luminosity correlations are discussed in this paper.

Abstract:
The basic principles of a reliable integrated pest management program include pest identification, monitoring, and distribution. Selecting the appropriate sampling protocol to monitor wireworm for research or applied entomology depends on the objective, including simply detecting the presence or absence of wireworm, surveying the composition of wireworm assemblages, or estimating spatial and temporal population densities. In this study, the efficacy of pitfall, stocking, pot, and canister traps baited with wheat and barley mixtures was evaluated for monitoring wireworm populations in four commercial cereal fields in Montana. Pitfall and stocking traps collected greater numbers of wireworm (1625 and 1575, respectively) followed by pot-type and canister-type traps (1173 and 725, respectively). The 5098 wireworm collected from four sites included seven species: Aeolus mellillus, Agriotes sp, Dalopius sp, Hypnoidus bicolor, Limonius californicus, Limonius infuscatus, and S. aeripennis.

Biodiversitas 19: 1622-1625. Heat stress in the livestock reduces reproductive traits, including of service per conception (S/C). The influence of heat stress inlivestock can be handled through molecular selection. One of the candidate genes that is affecting heat stress tolerance is Bovine Heat ShockProtein 70 (bHSP70) gene. This research was carried out to detect the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) in the 5'UTR of bHSP70 genefrom 44 heads of Pasundan cows at breeding station (BPPIBT-SP Ciamis, West Java). Research showed that 18 SNPs were detected withsequencing method. The insertion mutation was detected in all animal studied and occurred at position between g.1112 and g.1113. Themoderate of polymorphic informative content (PIC) were detected in two SNPs of g.1117G/A and g.1125A/C. Preliminary analysis showedthat haplotype of two homozygote genotype combination from both SNPs had better of S/C value of than the others (P<0.01). Moreover, theaverage of S/C value in heterozygote genotype seems higher than homozygote genotype. However, the further research for clarification ofthis research results through large number of observation is important. It was concluded that two SNPs of g.1117G/A and g.1125A/C arepotential as marker-assisted selection (MAS) for reproductive traits in Pasundan cows because of moderate PIC value.

Abstract:
Studies with overweight people are a priority in order to observe the effect of the timing of intervention on pre-obesity people. The aim was to compare different physical activity programs plus an individualized hypocaloric diet on body composition in overweight subjects. A randomized controlled clinical trial was carried out in overweight adults with no history of relevant illness. Primary outcome was total fat mass (TFM). Participants were allocated into four activity programs with equal intensity and volume of exercise for 22 weeks: strength training (S), endurance training (E), strength + endurance training (SE), and ‘adhering to physical activity recommendations’ (C). Participants followed a diet with 25% less energy (50%–55% carbohydrates, 30%–35% fat) measured by accelerometer. Variables were assessed at baseline and at the end of the intervention. Body composition was measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. One hundred nineteen from 205 subjects were randomized in the four exercise groups (S = 30/E = 30/SE = 30/C = 29) and 84 participants (36 men/48 women) ended the intervention (S = 19/E = 25/SE = 22/C = 18). At the end of the experiment, all groups except C increased their total physical activity (S = 1159 ± 1740; E = 1625 ± 1790; SE = 1699 ± 2516; C = 724 ± 1979 MET-min/week). Using an ANOVA-test, improvements were observed in body weight (S = −4.6 ± 4.5; E = −6.6 ± 4.6; SE = −8.5 ± 2.8; C = −6.1 ± 5.6 kg, p = 0.059) and TFM (S = −4.24 ± 2.02; E = −4.74 ± 2.96; SE = −6.74 ± 3.27; C = −3.94 ± 4.18%; p < 0.05). The main conclusion was that there were no adverse events. Strength and endurance training with a balanced, individualized hypocaloric diet was the most effective at reducing weight loss and fat mass in overweight subjects. Trial registration: NCT01116856.

Regional mtDNA SNP differentiation in European Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar): an assessment of potential utility for determination of natal origin. – ICES Journal of Marine Science, 69: 1625–1636. The Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar, shows geographically structured differentiation at various classes of molecular genetic variation, among and within river stocks. Nuclear microsatellite locus variation at multiple loci has been exploited for more than a decade as a marker for the continental origin of fish caught at sea in distant-water fisheries. However, a simpler, more cost-effective, but still accurate, assignment can be obtained using a single microsatellite locus in combination with a mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) detected by restriction enzyme digestion. Following on from this, a preliminary study was made of the potential for using mtDNA SNP variation to enhance the resolving power and cost-effectiveness of within-continent assignment of European salmon as determined using microsatellites. Variation in 20 mtDNA regions, encompassing ∼43% of this genome, in 330 salmon from 29 rivers across Europe, was analysed. High levels of inter-individual and inter-river variation were found, as well as evidence of regional differentiation paralleling observed microsatellite differentiation. The observations indicate scope for using mtDNA SNPs along with microsatellites for genetically based assignment of European salmon to region and river of natal origin, but further study is needed.

Thorpe, C. William, and Jason H. T. Bates. Effect of stochastic heterogeneity on lung impedance during acute bronchoconstriction: a model analysis. J. Appl. Physiol. 82(5): 1616–1625, 1997.—In a previous study (J. H. T. Bates, A. M. Lauzon, G. S. Dechman, G. N. Maksym, and T. F. Schuessler. J. Appl. Physiol. 76: 616–626, 1994), we investigated the acute changes in isovolume lung mechanics immediately after a bolus injection of histamine. We found that dynamic resistance and elastance increased progressively in the 80-s period after injection, whereas the estimated tissue hysteresivity reached a stable plateau after ∼25 s. In the present study, we developed a computer model of the lung to investigate the mechanisms responsible for these observations. The model conforms to Horsfield’s morphometry, with the addition of compliant airways and structural damping tissue units. Using this model, we simulated the time course of acute bronchoconstriction after intravenous administration of a bolus of bronchial agonist. Heterogeneity was induced by randomly varying the values of the maximal airway smooth muscle contraction and the tissue response to the agonist. Our results demonstrate that much of the increase in lung impedance observed in our previous study can be produced purely by the effects of airway heterogeneity. However, we were only able to reproduce the plateauing of hysteresivity by assigning a minimum radius to each airway, beyond which it would immediately snap completely shut. We propose that airway closure played an important role in our experimental observations.

Abstract:
A male of the new speciesStygiopontius senckenbergibelonging to the family Dirivultidae Humes & Dojiri, 1980 (Copepoda: Siphonostomatoida) and endemic to deep-sea hydrothermal vents, is described from a raised fault block structure south of Edison seamount of the New Ireland Fore-Arc system (Papua New Guinea). The copepods were collected in by box-corer during cruise SO-133 of the RV ‘Sonne’ at a depth of 1610–1625 m, 3°19′S 152°35′E. The new species belongs to a group of eight species that are separate from 21 congeners on the basis of setation of legs 1 and 4: the coxa of leg 1 has an inner seta (absent on the others) and the third exopodal segment of leg 4 has three outer spines (instead of two spines). The new species shares withS. pectinatusHumes, 1987 a pectinate maxilliped but differs from it in lacking two pectinate, terminal claw-like setae on the endopod of the antenna.

Knjiga propovijedi Manus Christi amoris Franje Glavinića (1585.

Abstract:
Staphylococcus aureus- induced mastitis is one of the most intractable problems for the dairy industry, which causes loss of milk yield and early slaughter of cows worldwide. Few studies have used a comprehensive approach based on the integrative analysis of miRNA and mRNA expression profiles to explore molecular mechanism in bovine mastitis caused by S. aureus. In this study, S. aureus (A1, B1 and C1) and sterile phosphate buffered saline (PBS) (A2, B2 and C2) were introduced to different udder quarters of three individual cows, and transcriptome sequencing and microarrays were utilized to detected miRNA and gene expression in mammary glands from the challenged and control groups. A total of 77 differentially expressed microRNAs (DE miRNAs) and 1625 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified. Gene Ontology (GO) annotation and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis showed that multiple DEGs were enriched in significant terms and pathways associated with immunity and inflammation. Integrative analysis between DE miRNAs and DEGs proved that miR-664b, miR-23b-3p, miR-331-5p, miR-19b and miR-2431-3p were potential factors regulating the expression levels of CD14 Molecule (CD14), G protein subunit gamma 2 (GNG2), interleukin 17A (IL17A), collagen type IV alpha 1 chain (COL4A1), microtubule associated protein RP/EB family member 2 (MAPRE2), member of RAS oncogene family (RAP1B), LDOC1 regulator of NFKB signaling (LDOC1), low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) and S100 calcium binding protein A9 (S100A9) in bovine mastitis caused by S. aureus. These findings could enhance the understanding of the underlying immune response in bovine mammary glands against S. aureus infection and provide a useful foundation for future application of the miRNA–mRNA-based genetic regulatory network in the breeding cows resistant to S. aureus.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to examine the effects of applying tannery sludge as fertilizer in the sugarcane plant crop and its impact on soil chemical characteristics. The soil in the experimental area was classified as dystrophic red latosol type (Oxisol). The experiment was set up as a randomized-block design with four replicates, with treatments represented by five doses of tannery sludge (0, 4500, 9000, 13500 and 18000 kg ha-1) plus one treatment with inorganic fertilization (90 kg ha-1 N, 180 kg ha-1 P2O5 and 120 kg ha-1 K2O). Soil chemical characteristics and sugarcane nutrition and production traits were evaluated. Tannery sludge application increased the organic matter, Ca, S and Na contents in the soil layers of 0-0.20 and 0.20-0.40 m. Heavy metal contents in the soil were not influenced by the treatments. Tannery sludge showed the potential to supply important macronutrients, especially at the highest doses tested. Tannery sludge doses between 10000 and 16250 kg ha-1 provided the greatest plant height and diameter and the highest number of stalks. The highest sugarcane yield, 149.55 t ha-1, was obtained with the sludge dose of 18000 kg ha-1.

Abstract:
Objectives. The aim of our study was to compare the efficacy and safety of S-1-based therapy (SBT) versus 5-fluorouracil-based therapy (FBT) for advanced colorectal cancer (ACRC).Methods.A meta-analysis of all eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was performed using RevMan 5.1.0 software.Results.A total of 1625 patients from twelve RCTs including 820 patients in the SBT group and 805 patients in the FBT group were available for analysis. The meta-analysis of overall survival (hazards ratio HR = 0.94, 95% CI = 0.80–1.10), progression-free survival (HR = 1.03, 95% CI = 0.91–1.18), and overall response rate (odds ratio OR = 1.23, 95% CI = 1.00–1.53) showed no statistical significance between SBT group and FBT group. The statistically significant differences in the meta-analysis indicated less incidence of graded 3-4 neutropenia (OR = 0.49, 95% CI = 0.35–0.68) and nausea/vomit (OR = 0.41, 95% CI = 0.23–0.72) in the SBT group, and there was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of grade 3-4 anemia, thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, diarrhea, and treatment-related deaths between two groups.Conclusions.SBT had similar efficacy and better safety than FBT and was an attractive alternative to FBT for patients of ACRC, but further investigations in different populations would be needed to confirm it.

Abstract:
Previous studies have shown that pigment granule dispersion and aggregation in melanophores of the African cichlid, Tilapia mossambica, are regulated by protein phosphorylation and dephosphorylation, respectively (Rozdzial, M. M., and L. T. Haimo. 1986. Cell. 47:1061-1070). The present studies suggest that calcineurin, a Ca2+/calmodulin-stimulated phosphatase, is the endogenous phosphatase that mediates pigment aggregation in melanophores. Aggregation, but not dispersion, is inhibited by okadaic acid at concentrations consistent with an inhibition of calcineurin activity. Inhibition of aggregation in melanophores that have been BAPTA loaded or treated with calmodulin antagonists implicate Ca2+ and calmodulin, respectively, in this process. Moreover, addition of calcineurin rescues aggregation in lysed melanophores which are otherwise incapable of aggregating pigment. Immunoblotting with an anticalcineurin IgG reveals that calcineurin is a component of the dermis, which contains the melanophores, and indirect immunofluorescence localizes calcineurin specifically to the melanophores. Finally, this antibody, which inhibits calcineurin's phosphatase activity (Tash, J. S., M. Krinks, J. Patel, R. L. Means, C. B. Klee, and A. R. Means. 1988. J. Cell Biol. 106:1625-1633), inhibits aggregation but has no effect on pigment granule dispersion. Together these studies indicate that retrograde transport of pigment granules to the melanophore cell center depends upon the participation of calcineurin.

Abstract:
Abstract Alós, J. 2008. Influence of anatomical hooking depth, capture depth, and venting on mortality of painted comber (Serranus scriba) released by recreational anglers. – ICES Journal of Marine Science, 65: 1620–1625. Immediate (4–5 h) and delayed (10 d) hooking mortality for released fish kept in tanks was evaluated for painted comber (Serranus scriba) taken by the recreational fishery of the Balearic Islands (western Mediterranean). Results showed low rates of immediate (10.8%) and delayed (3.3%) hooking mortality, a total mortality of 14.1%. Anatomical hook location and capture depth were the most significant predictors of mortality; 70.4% of fish caught with a deep location of hook died as a consequence of the damage caused, bleeding, and long unhooking times. Fish caught in depths >16 m showed evidence of external barotrauma caused by rapid decompression, which increased the probability of death. The most common forms of barotrauma were swimbladder enlargement and stomach inversion. For fish vented with the aid of a hypodermic needle to extract excess gas, mortality was reduced by half. Factors such as surface temperature, fish size, and hook type (“J” hook vs. circle hook) could not explain the mortality of fish released into tanks. Therefore, the results confirm that a practice of catch-and-release (voluntary or mandatory) for S. scriba needs to be promoted among recreational anglers.
