Abstract:
The functional nature of computer software underlies two propositions that were, until recently, fairly well settled in intellectual property law: first, that software, like other utilitarian articles, may qualify for patent protection; and second, that the scope of copyright protection for software is comparatively limited. Both propositions have become considerably shakier as a result of recent court decisions. Following Alice Corp. v. CLS Bank Int’l, 134 S. Ct. 2347 (2014), the lower courts have invalidated many software patents as unprotectable subject matter. Meanwhile, Oracle America v.

Sustainable development is a flagship subject of the stewardship ideology, an advocacy principle and challenge in the business implementation across the enterprises, big or small, all over the world. With the dynamic global scenario, the HEIs in the Philippines need to teach and support these sustainable development not just through its academic programs but to its community extension actions. To be able for San Beda University to do its responsibility in teaching and implementing sustainability, there is an immediate need to assess the current sustainability practices of the community partner

Abstract:
Standard anticoagulant prophylaxis is rarely used after TURP because it is believed to increase urinary bleeding. Org 10172 prevents experimental thrombosis and causes less bleeding than heparin in animals. We therefore evaluated its influence on urinary blood loss after TURP in a double blind, placebo controlled, study, which examined the effects of three Org 10172 regimens (750 antiXa u/day, 500 u bid, 750 u bid), given subcutaneously. Pilot studies have shown that 750 u bid prevents venous thrombosis (VT) after thoracotomy. At each dose level, 10 patients received Org 10172 and 6 placebo. B

During cardio-pulmonary bypass (CPB), Heparin inhibits EXa (EXal), thrombin and platelet activity and is also reported to induce fibrinolysis. Eragmin (Erag) has 25% thrombin inhibition capacity as related to that of Heparin (Hep). An in_vitro study was performed to compare Frag with Hep by circulating blood in a pure artificial system. In 20 experiments, 400 ml of freshly collected blood with Frag or Hep were recycled for 2 h. HLM was primed with 400 ml of Ringeracetate. Experimental studies showed that CY 222 (MW 2500 - 250 U AXAIC/ mg - 25 Ul/mg) kept the profibrinolytic properties of heparin with a considerable reduction of bleeding risk and that the optimal dose was about 1 000 U AXAIC/kg/day in rabbits. We have tested the dose related effectiveness and tolerance of this drug in 47 patients (pts) with acute pulmonary embolism (PE) less than 5 days. Systemic sclerosis is a multi-system disorder characterised by skin lesions and narrowing of arterioles with reduction in blood supply to many organs. Previous reports have suggested that platelet aggregation is abnormal and could contribute to the pathogenesis. Platelet aggregation in whole blood was investigated in 10 patients with systemic sclerosis and 9 age matched controls. Subjects rested for 30 minutes before blood samples were taken without stasis, via a 19G needle into 3.8% trisodium citrate anti-coagulant. 0.5ml of blood was transferred to cuvettes, and equilibrated gt 22°C for 30 m

Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) remains a serious and frequent complication after fracture of the hip, and even the mostefficacious prophylactic agents, e.g., warfarin, may fail to prevent DVT in up to 2056 of cases. There is evidence that low molecular weight heparin or heparin-like agents may have advantages in antithrombotic prophylaxis with reduced hemorrhagic sideeffects in patients at risk of DVT.
