Estudos da variabilidade da precipitação, como eventos de precipitações extremas ou secas severas, são de interesse social, particularmente para defesa civil e actividades humanas. As análises da precipitação em São Tomé e Príncipe (STP) e de um estudo de caso de precipitação extrema foram realizadas com dados coletados pelo Instituto de Meteorologia de STP. A variabilidade anual e anomalias da precipitação foram analisadas com dados observados e das Reanálises do NCEP, incluindo precipitação, TSM, PNM e ROL.
