Braiding defects in topological stabiliser codes can be used to fault-tolerantly implement logical operations. Twists are defects corresponding to the end-points of domain walls and are associated with symmetries of the anyon model of the code. We consider twists in multiple copies of the 2d surface code and identify necessary and sufficient conditions for considering these twists as anyons: namely that they must be self-inverse and that all charges which can be localised by the twist must be invariant under its associated symmetry. If both of these conditions are satisfied the twist and its s

The influence of spindle air pressure and its direction on the properties of Polyester/Cotton vortex yarn was studied. The spindle air pressure direction was changed in both Z and S directions on the Z twist yarn of Ne 40s Polyester/Cotton vortex yarn (50:50 polyester: cotton) and these yarns were then tested for their properties such as tensile, unevenness, and hairiness. It was found that unevenness was lower with normal spinning condition and increased when the spindle air pressure increased in both directions. Imperfections were also found to be minimum with normal spinning condition and i

According to a theorem of Moser, every monotone twist map $\varphi$ on the cylinder ${\Bbb S}^1\times {\Bbb R}$, which is integrable outside a compact set, is the time-1-map $\varphi_H^1$ of a fibrewise convex Hamiltonian $H$. In this paper we prove that if this particular flow $\varphi_H^t$ is also integrable outside a compact set, then $\varphi$ has to be integrable on the whole cylinder (and vice versa, of course). From this dynamical point of view, integrable twist maps appear to be quite rigid. As is shown in the appendix, an analogous rigidity result becomes trivial in higher dimensions.

Taking the cue from the discrepancy between the real Fagin and devilish Fagin in Oliver Twist, I will consider the reasons underlying Dickens’s choice of this particular name for such a villain. At the same time, in light of the scarcely plausible contrast between Oliver’s innocence and the urban decay surrounding him, I will argue that the novel should be interpreted as a social metaphor whose ethical model is The Pilgrim
