Abstract:
SaaS (Software as a Service) provides new business opportunities for application providers to serve more customers in a scalable and cost-effective way. SaaS also raises new challenges and one of them is multi-tenancy. Multi-tenancy is the requirement of deploying only one shared application to serve multiple customers (i.e. tenant) instead of deploying one dedicated application for each customer. This paper describes the authors’ practice of developing and deploying multi-tenant technologies. This paper targets a technology that could quickly enable existing Java EE (Enterprise Edition) applications to be multi-tenancy enabled thus having the benefit of quick time to market. This paper describes the overall framework of multi-tenant SaaS platform, how to migrate an existing Java EE application, how to provision the multi-tenant application, and how to onboard the tenants. The paper also shows experiments which compare the economics of multi-tenant SaaS deployment versus traditional application deployment (one application for one tenant) with precise data.

Abstract:
The multi-tenancy architecture allows software-as-a-service applications to serve multiple tenants with a single instance. This is beneficial as it leverages economies of scale. However, it does not cope with the specificities of each tenant and their variability; notably, the variability induced in the required quality levels that differ from a tenant to another. Hence, sharing one single instance hampers the fulfillment of these quality levels for all the tenants and leads to service level agreement violations. In this context, this article proposes a policy-driven middleware that configures the service according to the non-functional requirements of the tenants. The adopted approach combines software product lines engineering and model driven engineering principles. It spans the quality attributes lifecycle, from documenting them to annotating the service components with them as policies, and it enables dynamic configuration according to service level agreements terms of the tenants.

Abstract:
Today, many cloud adoption methodologies exist. Usually, the final phase in cloud adoption include software architecture modifications to make the most of the benefits of cloud computing, like multi-tenancy which enables economic efficiency. The aim of this research is to explain the multi-tenancy and to provide a solution for migration of existing software to multi-tenant SaaS while modifying the target software as little as possible. Therefore, the research proposes a platform that enables easier cloud adoption. After the research phase focused on a smart grid domain, the prototype was created with experiments targeting formulated research questions. The experiments were conducted in a private cloud environment. Research hypotheses were analyzed using hypothetical multi-tenant ADMS (Advanced Distribution Management System) in case of six tenants, with the following conclusions: multi-tenancy saves 32% of resources, it provides three orders of magnitude higher availability, but affects performances by introducing a delay of up to 20 milliseconds per service request. Also, reliable actors programing model used in modern PaaS services is not suitable in use cases with needs for synchronous behavior, nor in in use cases where querying a set of actors is needed in real time. The research demonstrates feasibility of applying multi-tenancy even in cases of complex software solutions like the ones in the smart grid domain. The proposed solution is academically validated and it can be used as a final important step in migration of existing software to cloud based multi-tenant SaaS.

Abstract:

The development of SaaS enables service users (tenants) to benefit from the low cost of deployment and maintenance. The Multi-Tenant (MT) architecture is often used in the development of SaaS, it allows the sharing of software and hardware resources, providing cost savings to the costumers and the service provider. A challenge that the SaaS developer has is to keep sharing the instance of the software in scenarios with tenants who have differing needs. In this project, to address the variability of tenants in SaaS MT were set some patterns, based on Software Product Lines techniques for customizing user interfaces, data, processes and permissions. A framework called FoSaaS (Framework of Software as a Service) has also been developed to support the use of patterns, providing support to developers in SaaS MT coding. In addition to allowing the customization of SaaS MT, experiments in this project indicated that patterns improve reuse, quality and productivity in developed SaaS MT. The applicability of the patterns was evidenced through real projects in developing commercial applications.<br>Softwares como um Serviço (SaaS) representam uma forma de distribuição de software sob demanda e acessíveis via Internet.

Abstract:
This thesis discusses the new way of delivering IT services over the Internet widely known as cloud computing. In its opening part, cloud computing is put into a historical context of the evolution of enterprise computing, and the dominant issues the IT department faces today are mentioned. Further, the paper deals with several components that make up the architecture of cloud computing and reviews the benefits and drawbacks an enterprise can have while it adopts this new model. One of the primary aims of this thesis is to identify the impact of the technology trends on cloud computing. The thesis brings together four major computing trends, namely virtualization, multi-tenant architecture, service-oriented architecture and grid computing. Another aim is to focus on two trends related to IT infrastructure that will lead to fundamental changes in IT industry. The first of them is the emergence of extremely large-scale data centers at low cost locations, which can serve tremendous amount of customers and achieve considerable economies of scale. The second trend this paper points out is the shift from multi-purpose all-in-one computers into a wide range of mobile devices dedicated to a specific user's needs. The last aim of this thesis is to clarify the economic impact of cloud computing in terms of costs and changes in business models. The thesis concludes by evaluating the current adoption and predicting the future trend of cloud computing.

Abstract:
abstract: Nowadays, Computing is so pervasive that it has become indeed the 5th utility (after water, electricity, gas, telephony) as Leonard Kleinrock once envisioned. Evolved from utility computing, cloud computing has emerged as a computing infrastructure that enables rapid delivery of computing resources as a utility in a dynamically scalable, virtualized manner. However, the current industrial cloud computing implementations promote segregation among different cloud providers, which leads to user lockdown because of prohibitive migration cost. On the other hand, Service-Orented Computing (SOC) including service-oriented architecture (SOA) and Web Services (WS) promote standardization and openness with its enabling standards and communication protocols. This thesis proposes a Service-Oriented Cloud Computing Architecture by combining the best attributes of the two paradigms to promote an open, interoperable environment for cloud computing development. Mutil-tenancy SaaS applicantions built on top of SOCCA have more flexibility and are not locked down by a certain platform. Tenants residing on a multi-tenant application appear to be the sole owner of the application and not aware of the existence of others. A multi-tenant SaaS application accommodates each tenant’s unique requirements by allowing tenant-level customization. A complex SaaS application that supports hundreds, even thousands of tenants could have hundreds of customization points with each of them providing multiple options, and this could result in a huge number of ways to customize the application. This dissertation also proposes innovative customization approaches, which studies similar tenants’ customization choices and each individual users behaviors, then provides guided semi-automated customization process for the future tenants. A semi-automated customization process could enable tenants to quickly implement the customization that best suits their business needs.<br>Dissertation/Thesis<br>Doctoral Dissertation Computer Science 2016

Abstract:
碩士<br>逢甲大學<br>資訊工程學系<br>102<br>Over the past few years, cloud computing has become one of the hottest topics in information technology. Governmental organizations, academic research institutes and related technology industries, have expressed a high degree of interest in the research and development of cloud computing technologies. SaaS (Software as a Service) is an emerging model of cloud computing which can provide business software applications through the network by shared resources with each tenants. In the traditional enterprise applications, each user has a separate enterprise application , it can be very easy to save and load any custom configuration. However in a multi-tenant how to support different tenants independent custom configurations for the same application instance is the fundamental challenge facing in multi-tenant technology. This thesis focuses on the databases level and aims to provide a multi-tenant data schema as well as schema customization. The proposed approach facilitates developers to convert private table SQL statements to fulfill statement of multi-tenant schema efficiently. The main contribution of this work is twofold: 1) First part is to develop a multi-tenant platform and multi-tenant database schema will implement by Universal Table Layout. Allows developers to manage or customize database for each tenants effectively through the platform. 2) To develop an adapter that enables existing web site transfers the storing method of multi-tenant database without modifying a lot of code and to enhance the speed of multi-tenant systems development and resource utilization.
