Abstract:
Sabulina basaltica and Sabulina sororia (Caryophyllaceae) are described as new species endemic to Washington State, U.S.A. Sabulina basaltica is restricted to high-elevation, basalt rocks in the northeastern Olympic Mountains, and Sabulina sororia to high-elevation, dunite rocks of the Twin Sisters Range in the North Cascade Mountains. Both were previously confused with Sabulina rossii (formerly called Arenaria rossii or Minuartia rossii). Their recognition as distinct species is supported by morphological and molecular characters and disjunct geographic distributions. Both are illustrated, ma

Strange samples of Sabulina found in the ISTO herbarium were recollected and then compared with herbarium material of related species. It was determined that the most similar species was Sabulina gracilis. Both were compared with molecular and morphological methods. Minuartia altoandina has been described as an endemic species for northwestern Argentina, and later transferred to the genus Sabulina. In this contribution and based on morphological observations and molecular data, Sabulina altoandina is proposed here as a heterotypic synonym of Arenaria pycnophylloides, a native species to the high Andean regions of Bolivia and northwestern Argentina; as a consequence, the genus Sabulina is excluded from the Argentinian Flora. On the other hand, A. pycnophylloides var. compacta is synonymized under A. pycnophylloides, and in addition, the name of this variet

Railways are important introduction and dispersal corridors for plant species. The first establishment and spread of many alien plant species in Hungary can be linked to railways nowadays. Sabulina tenuifolia (L.) Rchb. is a sub-Atlantic–sub-Mediterranean–Western-Asian plant, which was not previously known from the flora of Hungary, but a small population of the species was found in Budapest, at the Rákospalota-Újpest railway station. The plant was probably introduced as a stowaway of rail transport and its further spread along railways is expected. The inclusion of the species in the Hungaria

Recent molecular studies (Greenberg & Donoghue 2011, Dillenberger & Kadereit 2014) clearly demonstrated that the genus Minuartia Linnaeus (1753: 89) (Caryophyllaceae Juss.) is highly polyphyletic and the taxa previously placed in that genus (e.g., McNeill 1962, Halliday 1993) represent several distinct phylogenetic lineages less related to each other than to some other readily recognized Caryophyllaceae genera. As a consequence, many taxa, which were earlier treated in Minuartia, should be now placed in several distinct genera. Dillenberger & Kadereit (2014) proposed to recognize w

It is mainly based on the analysis of primary sources (i.e. original protologues and monographic works), but also uses the data provided in the recent online taxonomic aggregators, such as the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), Catalogue of Life (CoL), Plants of the World Online (POWO), Euro+Med PlantBa
