Abstract:
Eyesafe operation is desirable when lidar systems are used in programs in which personnel can be in the path of the laser beam. This is of particular importance in scanning systems, or in systems that are designed for automated, unattended operation. In practice, in order to be eyesafe at short ranges from the transmitter and still maintain a reasonable pulse energy output, the source wavelength must be shorter than 400 nm or longer than 1.4 μm [1]. With the exception of long wavelength CO2 systems, commonly used lidar systems are not eyesafe and require stringent precautions for safe operatio

Abstract Mars has always been an important target of deep space exploration, and it is expected to achieve the goal of manned landing around 2050. For manned Mars missions, a reliable and powerful power system is essential. Because of its simple, reliable, safe and high energy conversion efficiency, sCO2 Brayton cycle with heat pipe reactor has become a promising high-power nuclear power scheme on the surface of Mars. In this paper, the concept design of Mars surface megawatt high-power nuclear power supply system based on sCO2 Brayton cycle with heat pipe reactor was carried out. In order to

Abstract:
Displacement forms part of virtually any major crisis. It introduces a level of complexity when providing social assistance that leads to a specific, usually context-dependent set of challenges. It is widely recognised that the vast majority of displaced people will travel as short a distance as possible to reach safety, whether as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), refugees or irregular migrants in neighbouring countries. Displaced people are disproportionately hosted in low- and middle-income countries, and the length of their displacement is increasing. This highlights the urgent priority

Abstract:
Despite the widespread concern with social protection in the field of development, it has had little impact on displacement until very recently. UNHCR has had a Social Protection Unit since 2009, but social protection is barely mentioned in either the Global Compact on Refugees or the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, both agreed in 2018. The period since 2018 has seen a growth of research interest and new policy development. This represents the latest appearance of the humanitarian-development nexus in the field of displacement. This nexus is a long-standing one and is i

In 1992 a working group of the UK Advisory Committee on the Microbiological Safety of Food presented a report on Vacuum Packaging and Associated Processes regarding the microbiological safety of chilled foods. The report supported subsequent guidance provided by the UK Food Standards Agency for the safe manufacture of vacuum packed and modified atmosphere packed chilled foods. In 2021 the ACMSF requested that a new subgroup should update and build on the 1992 report as well as considering, in addition to chilled foods, some foods that are intended to be stored at ambient temperatures. Abstract:
Polybenzoxazine, a high-perfomance phenolic resin, was used as a precursor for carbon aerogel electrode of supercapacitors. A cost-effective ambient drying was used for benzoxazine aerogel preparation. After the pyrolysis of benzoxazine aerogel under a nitrogen atmosphere, carbon aerogel was obtained. The BET surface area of the carbon aerogel was approximately 360 m2/g. The activation of the carbon aerogels was also investigated in order to compare the physical and electrochemical properties. The BET surface area of the activated carbon aerogels increased more than twice in comparison with th

Just over a decade ago, several forest agency leaders from around the world met in Beijing, China at a conference convened by the Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI), the State Forestry Administration (SFA) of China and the Chinese Center for Agriculture Policy (CCAP). As leaders—from Brazil, China, Mexico and the USA—we reflected on how few opportunities existed to learn from one another to discuss forest issues in an informal atmosphere outside of the protocol-laden, jurisdictionally-defined sessions we commonly attended. We wondered whether there was a better way—whether it was possible t

We need a new way of talking about global warming. UN Secretary General António Guterres underscored this when he said the “era of global boiling” has arrived. Although we have made remarkable progress on a very complex problem over the past thirty years, we have a long way to go before we can keep the global temperature increase to below 2°C relative to the pre-industrial times. Climate models suggest that this next decade is critical if we are to avert the worst consequences of climate change. The world must continue to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and find ways to adapt and build resili
