Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Three glycosyl hydrolase family 35 β-galactosidase-encoding cDNAs, SaGAL1 (full-length), SaGAL2 and SaGA3L (both partial), have been isolated from Sandersonia aurantiaca (Hook.) SaGAL1 protein was functionally expressed in E. coli and β-galactosidase identity confirmed by activity assay. All three clones are primarily expressed in tepal tissues of senescing sandersonia flowers. In order to identify relationships between tepal texture and galactose metabolism, cut sandersonia flowers were treated with sucrose, periods of dryness or PEG and parameters associated with galactose metabolism and firmness were monitored. Sucrose supplementation, known to increase tepal firmness, delayed expression of SaGAL1 and SaGAL3 in opening (stage 5) flowers, whereas the response to periods of dryness followed by rehydration depended on the maturity of the flower. These treatments also tended to hasten the onset of processes associated with programmed cell death, monitored by PRT5 (a senescence-associated protease) expression. Galactosidase activity and cell wall galactose content were also affected but in an inconsistent manner. PEG supplied to opening flowers for 1 d followed by water, induced a long period of wilt, and intensive PRT5 expression. However, β-galactosidase gene expression and activity was delayed in these flowers, and cell-wall galactose content changed apparently independently of galactosidase activity. We have not been able to demonstrate a causal connection between the change in petal texture and concurrent induction of galactose mobilisation in sandersonia during normal development and senescence. The nucleotide sequence data reported appears in the EMBL, GenBank and DDBJ Nucleotide Sequence Databases under accession number AY280498 (SaGAL1), AY280499 (SaGAL2), AY280500 (SaGAL3).

Abstract:

Abstract:
ABSTRACT The second edition of Gabriel Sagard's history of the Recollect missions in eastern Canada, the Histoire du Canada (1636), included an unprecedented series of harmonized settings of four previously transcribed indigenous Mi'kmaq and Tupinamba melodies. A reading of the Histoire du Canada's content, structure, and production context demonstrates that the settings supported the apostolic aims of the text, which were rooted in the didactic ethos and methods of the French Counter-Reformation. Specifically, the Histoire du Canada developed the transcribed indigenous chants into devotional exercises by ascribing moral significance to the transformation of the melodies into polyphony. With the harmonized settings Sagard gestured toward the Native Americans' potential for conversion and civilization by the Recollect missionaries in a manner that was edifying for Catholic readers in France and the young colony.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract This paper examines 17th-century descriptions of Algonquian and Iroquoian languages by French and British missionaries as well as their subsequent reinterpretations. Focusing on such representative studies as Paul Le Jeune’s (1592–1664) sketch of Montagnais, John Eliot’s (1604–1690) grammar of Massachusett, and the accounts of Huron by Jean de Brébeuf (1593–1649) and Gabriel Sagard-Théodat (c.1600–1650), I discuss their analysis of the sound systems, morphology, syntax, and lexicon. In addition, I examine the reception of early missionary accounts in European scholarship, focusing on the role they played in the shaping of the notion of ‘primitive’ languages and their speakers in the 18th and 19th centuries. I also discuss the impressionistic nature of evaluations of phonetic, lexical, and grammatical properties in terms of complexity and richness. Based on examples of the early accounts of the lexicon and structure of Algonquian and Iroquoian languages, I show that even though these accounts were preliminary in their character, they frequently provided detailed and insightful representations of unfamiliar languages. The reception and subsequent transmission of the linguistic examples they illustrated was however influenced by the changing theoretical and ideological context, resulting in interpretations that were often contradictory to those intended in the original descriptions.

Widespread decline in agricultural land and the impact on production decline caused extensive forest activities to meet the needs of the population. Activities that cause less environmental quality offset environmental balance changes. These changes due to deforestation, erosion, degraded land and natural resource degradation are exploited so that the function of ecological, economic and social life. Damaged ecosystems resulting in erosion, landslides in the watershed affect the sedimentation in Sagara Anakan sea. Silting, resulting in narrowing of fishing activities, tourism, sports, and services decreased crossings. Because of the problem and the purpose of this study proposed and analyzed a few questions: 1) How does the socio-economic impact of farmers in conserving the environment of Sagara Anakan ?, 2) How do people form of conservation and coastal of Sagara Anakan ?, 3) How model of integrated conservation in the watershed and coastal of Sagara Anakan ? and 4) What role do the people in the watershed and coastal on Sagara Anakan conservation ?. Study site covers an area of flow and Ci Ci Tanduy Beureum and Sagara Tillers waters. Activities of the population in the process of land affected when in Sagara tillers. The method used was a survey with a sample divided by the watershed upstream, downstream and coastal tengahm. Using statistical analysis techniques and geography, so that part of the watershed characteristics can be imaged. Shallowing Sagara Anakan, physically was affected by the physical condition of the easily eroded and accelerated by human activities. The activities of farmer on the watershed have done conservation unless doing reforestation, whereas the farmer on the swamp and coastal areas are not doing conservation. Different physical circumstances, the conservation of watersheds and coastal forms differ. Socio-economic condition of farmer affect the conservation. The farmer could not reforestation conservation form, as the socio-economic needs. While in the farmer swamp and coastal conservation is not done, because the physical state was not possible. To conserve of Sagara Anakan, then the shape of coastal conservation by planting trees, not catch fish, marine dredging, not taking out the trash, do not use drugs to win the fish and catch a certain size. While in conservation should be done with different shape and performed in an integrated manner that requires the participation of the population.

Abstract:
Sagara Anakan Lagoon has been continuously receded caused by the high sedimentation rate. The deposited sediment volume was predicted to be around 1 million m3/year. This phenomenon, if not treated will harm the existing ecosystem and also could cause many kinds of its native biota extinct. Engineering could be applied to prevent it. However, the transport and sedimentation pattern must be known for it to be effective. Silting in Sagara Anakan Lagoon simulated by using MIKE21 numerical model which could simulate sediment transport in 2D horizontal scheme. The deposited sediment, mainly consisted of mud, so the model must be capable for simulating cohesive sediment transport. Model is set to simulate one year of morphological event which reached with the usage of time speed up acceleration factor. Model calibrated to be able to simulate a deposition event in the order of one million m3/year. Model calibrated by tuning critical bed shear stress for deposition and erosion parameters as a base for sensitivity analysis. Model result shown that the sedimentation in Sagara Anakan Lagoon is caused by asymmetry of flood and ebb current. Major siltation happened around the delta with the maximum and mean observed bed change are approximately 0.6 m and 0.16 m respectively. The setup for this model could be used as a base model for planning an engineering approach for controlling sediment in Sagara Anakan Lagoon. Keywords: Numerical model, cohesive sediment, mud transport, estuary modellingKata Kunci: Model numerik, sedimen kohesif, transpor lumpur, pemodelan estuari

Bion (benzothiadiazole) and Amistar (azoxystrobin) were applied for controlling Cercospora leaf spot of banana variety Amrita Sagarin at the field laboratory, Department of Plant Pathology, Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh by applying different treatments viz. dipping bottom of sucker for 6 hrs. in Bion (0.005%) before planting, dipping bottom of sucker for 6 hrs. in Bion (0.01%) before planting, spraying of Bion @ 0.005% once on leaves after 80 days of planting, spraying of Bion @ 0.01% once on leaves after 80 days of planting, spraying of Amistar @ 0.05% once on leaves after 80 days of planting, spraying of Amistar @ 0.05% only on leaves after 80 and 140 days of planting, spraying of Bion @ 0.005%) once on leaves and pseudostem after 80 days of planting, spraying of Bion @ 0.01% once on leaves and pseudostem after 80 days of planting and control (without chemical). From these above treatments it is revealed that dipping of bottom of banana sucker for 6 hrs. in Bion either @ 0.005% or 0.01% significantly reduced plant height, while Bion and Amistar did not exert any effect on number of leaf/ plant. Bion @ 0.005% and 0.01% (dipping of bottom of sucker before planting), Bion @ 0.01% (on leaves, 1 spray) and 0.01% (on leaves and pseudostem, 1 spray) and Amistar @ 0.05% (on leaves, 2 spray) showed significant effect in reducing number of diseased leaf/ plant, number of diseased spot/ plant, percent leaf area (cm2) diseased/ plant, mean spot size (mm2)/ plant of banana var. Abstract:

Abstract:
Biodiversity of cnidarian and ctenophore forms in Toyama Bay, Japan Sea, was lower than that in Sagami Bay, north-western Pacific, according to all the indices investigated. Highest richness of forms occurred in the 400—600 m depth layer in Sagami Bay, while in Toyama Bay richness was low in most layers. New forms continued to occur with increasing depth in Sagami Bay but not in Toyama Bay and species composition differed remarkably between the two bays. Putative secondary deep-sea gelatinous forms were identified. Horizontal patchiness in normalized abundances was the rule rather than the exception and for accurate calculations of biodiversity indices incorporating evenness or equitability, the necessity for multiple submersible dives in a single area and survey period was noted. Vertical migration and predation were identified as possible factors contributing to the higher diversity in the 400—600 m depth layer in Sagami Bay.

Abstract:
The Chlorophyceae periodicity of Jait Sagar lake had been studied during Jan 2013 to Dec 2013. A total number of 44 species belonging to 15 genera of Chlorophyceae class were identified. Some of common genera belonging to Chlorophyceae of Jait Sagar lake were Pediastrum, Scenedesmus, Cosmari-um, Spirogyra, Closterium etc. The occurrence of algae varied in different study areas in various months. Scenedesmus showed a maximum popula-tion. Some species were common to all the seasons while others were repre-sented only at a particular season. The algal population was found to be maximum in summer season and the lowest in winter. Water becomes greenish due to population of Microalgae such as Pediastrum, Scenedesmus, Cosmarium and Closterium during May-October. Seasonal successions of phytoplankton are affected by strong seasonal ecological influences. In the present investigation it was observed that high temperature and pH were favourable for rapid development of Chlorophyceae.

Abstract:
The present study focuses on the limnogeological aspects of the lakes Sagara and Nyamagoma within the Malagarasi Wetland Ecosystem. Abiotic parameters from water and sediment samples were determined during the dry and wet seasons using appropriate gears and methods. The data show variation of the abiotic parameters in both lakes from thewater surface to the bottom. Lake Nyamagoma is less turbid (0.7-24 NTU) than Lake Sagara (25 to 65 NTU). The water transparency was also high at Lake Nyamagoma (0.75-1.5 m) thus supporting the observed turbidity trend. The physical chemical changes may be attributed to processes such as cooling, dissociation, dissolution, decomposition, adsorption, precipitation, cation exchange and photosynthesis. However, higher nutrient concentration was observed in the wet season than dry season with the exception of SiO 2 consequent to dilution effect by surface runoff. The mineralogical content (Kaolinite, Smectite, Illite and Quartz) of the lake sediments indicate existence of good drainage conditions at the lakes as supported by the geology of the area. It is recommended that a long-term limnogeological monitoring andevaluation be conducted so as to understand future nutrient hydrodynamics and hydrological functioning of the wetland ecosystem.
