Abstract:
She came from the sea, mazed, amazed —masen —confused, bewildered, senseless. Deceived, deranged, crazed. They stopped and asked her who she was. When they stopped and asked her who she was, she said she did not know. She said she was so mazed in the sea, that she forgot her mind. Her mind —mynde — seat of memory, faculty of memory, individual remembrance. Reason, understanding. Will, desire, purpose. She forgot her mind, when she lost herself. Constance forgets Constance. Constance is lost. Distress teaches us to be inventive, says the nightingale, but blank Constance does not invent. Once, she was Constance. Syrian chapmen found her in Rome, among the other things, specially. The chapmen took their cloths of gold, their satins rich of hew, their chaffare so thrifty and new, and returned with tales of Constance. Their chaffare — anything of virtue, something desirable. An exchange, a bargain, a deal. So thrifty — well-made, seemly, suitable. Golden, rich of hew, so thrifty and so new, they returned with tales of Constance. The chapmen went to market. Take the cloth and sell the cloth, take the goods and sell the goods. The smooth trade in luxury prevails over gods and geography. Facilitate allegiance in the market. Chapmen exchange satin for Dame Constance.

Abstract:
When I accepted my job as a joint hire between an English de-partment and an Honors College that used a fairly conventional Great Books curriculum, I was excited to have a job and to be teaching the classics as well as my own research interests. But I quickly learned that there are some dangers and stressors in be-ing the only person who works on anything remotely premod-ern in a four-semester curriculum that dwells a year on ancient Roman and Greek classics, hurtles over the Middle Ages after two or three short weeks with Dante and Chaucer, and comes to rest heavily in the Renaissance and the Enlightenment. I quickly found myself saying things that surprised and even scared my colleagues as we discussed our curriculum and book lists every year with hopes of improving or innovating the hundred years’ culture war that is a Great Books curriculum.1 “Why not teach a saga instead of Dante?” I might say. Or: “Can we replace Chaucer with Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, or even Piers Plowman?” “No, I do not feel comfortable lecturing on the political climate that led to the creation of Virgil’s Aeneid — that’s why we need a classicist.” “Can’t we add another medieval text and remove The Golden Ass? Marie de France can cover a lot of the same ground.” And so on. My colleagues have come to look upon my perpetual war for a non-standardized view of the Middle Ages, for readings from saints, weirdos, and outliers with exasperated good humor and a quick vote to maintain the status quo: a week of the Inferno, a week of Chaucer’s greatest hits. Done, and done. I never thought I’d argue the things I have in this job as strongly as I have argued them.

Abstract:
The chapter of the monograph " Project management of Ukraine's integration into the Trans-European transport network" is devoted to a comprehensive study of the management aspects of the integration of Ukrainian railways into the international transport infrastructure. It consists of three parts that analyze in detail the planning, implementation and specifics of management practices in the context of high-speed railways and integration projects. The first part, "Planning of high-speed railway projects – global experience and Ukrainian perspectives", focuses on the global experience of planning and implementation of high-speed railway projects, in particular on examples from Europe, Asia and other regions. It analyzes various management models, technological innovations and economic aspects that contribute to the successful implementation of such projects. Special attention is paid to the adaptation of world practices to Ukrainian conditions, taking into account the specifics of the national infrastructure, economic and political factors. The second part, "The project of the integration of Ukrainian railways into the Trans-European transport network (TEN-T) on the example of the development of the Lviv railway node", considers a specific case of the integration of Ukrainian railways into the Trans-European transport network. The stages of project implementation are described on the example of the Lviv railway node, including technical, organizational and financial aspects. An important role is played by the analysis of problems and achievements, as well as the impact of the project on the development of regional infrastructure and the economy. The third part, "Peculiarities of the practical implementation of system-level project management in railway transport of Ukraine", focuses on the specifics of managing large projects in the railway transport system of Ukraine, using the example of the SAIRS-UZ project. It examines the practical aspects of management processes, including planning, implementation and monitoring of projects at the system level. Examples of successful and problematic projects illustrating the opportunities and challenges of the management process in the context of Ukrainian railway transport are considered separately. The chapter of the monograph is addressed to teachers, researchers, graduate students, students, as well as practitioners in the field of project management, transport engineering and international integration. It offers in-depth analysis and practical recommendations to improve management practices in the field of rail transport and the integration of national infrastructure into international transport networks.

Abstract:
Since the last decade of previous millennium e-portfolio has become a frequent topic of discussion in teacher education contexts. It is seen as one of the prominent innovations in educational technology that demonstrates teachers’ tangible development of competencies over time. Vast amount of literature is available that document the relative advantages and consequent advocacy for its implementation across disciplines, institutions, and applications. In Malaysia, research on e-portfolio is sparse, and particularly in pre-service teacher education it has never been explored. This article describes the findings of a qualitative study examining fifty-five pre-service ESL teachers’ learning experiences while they created e-portfolios as a part of their course requirement at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Data was collected through structured surveys. Findings indicate that most of the participants perceived the process of reflecting on course objectives contributed to their growth and development. Participants also reported several drawbacks of e-portfolios which are required to consider for its successful implementation in teacher education of Malaysia.

Abstract The composer Gabriel Faure passed away at a most inopportune moment politically-several months after the victory of the Cartel des Gauches, a left electoral alliance of Radicals and Socialists, over its adversaries to the right. Not having had time to define its policies on all cultural issues, the new government ceded to the pressures of an experienced, conservative functionary in the Ministry of Fine Arts, Paul Leon.1 Having known the composer for years, and being a great advocate of Faure’s music, Leon insisted that he receive the full panoply of grandiose “obseques nationales.” This, after all, had been the case with Faure’s former teacher and mentor, Camille Saint-Saens, for whom Leon had arranged a similar ceremony only three years before.
