Abstract:
Furcy’s lawsuit became the focal point of a constitutional crisis in Isle Bourbon between Boucher’s judiciary and Desbassayns’s civil authority. The colonial administrated, led by Desbassayns, deemed Furcy’s claim to freedom as the son of an Indian mother, crafted by the young, liberal, creole, Jacques Sully Brunet, dangerous, the potential catalyst to a slave revolt. Desbassayns ordered Furcy and Constance arrested and Sully Brunet and other allies suspended from their functions, and ultimately withheld Boucher’s salary. The crisis ended with Furcy in the Saint-Denis prison and Boucher returning to France with his wife, baby, and an enslaved wet nurse to seek royal intercession.

Abstract:
This work is about a political arm of social movements during the period of 1953 to 1964 in Campo Mourão city. These social movements have had many faces, such as Partido Comunista represented by Saint Benedict village, General Union of Workers, Campina da Lagoa city and Little School of People. The Little School had been founded by bishop Dom Eliseu Simões Mendes when he arrived in Mossoró city, located in Northern of Brazil, where a big ecclesiastical work with poor people was developed. That work have had in its bases one specific theory that believes in one point of view for adult people – education for transformation, in another words – to teach to read and write with real problems that are around you. But in 1964, had a big change side in the brasilian politic. This happening brought the banishment of all those social movements, include Little School of Workers and, in this place, that poor people have had another school only for children.

Abstract:
This book argues that as the Latter-day Saint community globalized in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, its relationship to space transformed. Initially, nineteenth-century Mormons believed that they must literally gather together in their new Salt Lake Zion—their center place. They believed that Zion was a place you could point to on a map, a place you should dwell in to live a righteous life. Later Mormons had to reinterpret these central theological principles as their community spread around the globe. They began to make such claims as “We should spiritually gather together” and “Zion is wherever the people of God are.” But to say that they simply spiritualized concepts that had once been understood literally is only one piece of the puzzle. Contemporary Mormons still want to touch and to feel these principles. And so they mark and claim the landscapes of the American West with versions of their history carved in stone. They develop rituals that allow them not only to learn the history of the nineteenth-century journey West but also to engage it with all of their senses. This book examines the ways contemporary Mormons first spiritualized and then reliteralized and concretized several central theological concepts in order to emphasize and make meaningful a center place even as they become an increasingly place-less community.

Abstract:
This book reenacts the simultaneous eruption of three spectacular revolutions—the development of pictorial abstraction, the first modern dance, and the birth of cinema—which together changed the artistic landscape of early twentieth-century Europe and the future of modern art. Rather than seeking dancing pictures or pictures of dancing, however, this study follows the chronology of the historical avant-garde to show how dance and pictures were engaged in a kindred exploration of the limits of art and perception that required the process of abstraction. Recovering the performances, methods, and circles of aesthetic influence of avant-garde dance pioneers and experimental filmmakers from the turn of the century to the interwar period, this book challenges modernism’s medium-specific frameworks by demonstrating the significant role played by the arts of motion in the historical avant-garde’s development of abstraction: from the turn-of-the-century dancer Loïe Fuller, who awakened in symbolist artists the possibility of prolonged vision; to cubo-futurist and neosymbolist artists who reached pure abstraction in tandem with the radical dance theory of Valentine de Saint-Point; to Sophie Taeuber’s hybrid Dadaism between art and dance; to Akarova, a prolific choreographer whose dancing Belgian constructivist pioneers called “music architecture”; and finally to the dancing images of early cinematic abstraction from the Lumière brothers to Germaine Dulac. Each chapter reveals the emergence of abstractionas an apparatus of creation, perception, and reception deployed across artistic media toward shared modernist goals. The author argues that abstraction can be worked like a muscle, a medium through which habits of reception and perception are broken and art’s viewers are engaged by the kinesthetic sensation to move and be moved.

Abstract:
