The aim of this thesis is to understand the diffusion process of Swedish life insurance during the period c. 1830-1950, with the specific aim to understand financial modernization and social mobilization as reflected in the diffusion of life insurance to less well-to-do classes and women. In contrast to British and American experiences, the results of this thesis show that the rural classes played an important role in the diffusion of Swedish life insurance. The onset of the Glass Transition in tetrahedral network liquids is associated with the over-constrained nature of the structure and the low ability of the ions to move relative to one another. We investigate the interplay between the structure and dynamics in BeF<sub>2</sub>, a template for the ideal tetrahedral system. Divalent thulium has been doped into CsCaI₃, CsCaBr₃, CsCaCl₃ and RbCaI₃- a series of AMX₃ salts. Using previously published optical spectra, a series of parameterised energy level calculations have been performed. The calculated energy levels, optimised crystal field parameters and simulated optical absorption spectra are presented. We examine the melting point trends across sets of coarse grain model salts using NPT molecular dynamics simulations. The melting point trends are established relative to a charge-centered, size-symmetric salt that is closely akin to the restricted primitive model. Two of the common features of ionic liquids, namely size asymmetry and a distributed cation charge, are systematically varied in a set of model salts.
