Semakin berkembangnya dunia, semakin modern.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In this thesis, we intend to study the following topic: The poetic writing in West Africa. This involves a comparative analysis of the works of Tijan M. Sallah, a Gambian writer who writes in English and Amadou Lamine Sall, a Senegalese writer who writes in French. Our objective is particularly to study their works, extract their main features by linking them to their sociocultural environment through a comparative angle. To talk about writing is another way of merging two complementary elements which are content and form. Language is therefore that element of literature. Style is form, expression and content. Images, debit side, lexicon which are part of the body and the past of the writer gradually become the automatism of his art. Literature in general, and especially poetry, cannot merely be read as documents or simple messages. The transposition of referential elements in a writer’s work and the irruption of imagination make the work singular. This thesis also takes into consideration the role of the poet, that is to say the writer in general who is a witness to matters affecting humanity. Tijan M. Sallah and Amadou Lamine Sall, through their works, restore hope for a new world, a world where Justice, Freedom, Peace and Love will prevail forever. The powerful weapon to wage this revolution is Love

Dufresne, Lucie Marie-Mai. "The Salish Sxwaixwe in historic Salish society." Thesis, University of Ottawa (Canada), 1996. http://hdl.handle.net/10393/10412.

Full text
Abstract:
The Sxwaixwe, a mask and cleansing rite of the Salish Indians of the Southern Northwest Coast, seems to have been in continuous production and use since the late 1700's. It has shown both consistency of underlying form and increased complexity and ambiguity of surface decoration probably resulting from an expansion of its use and the effects of contact with other cultural groups. An inherited and restricted family privilege, it continues to necessitate inter-kin group and gender co-operation for its production and use, thus serving to raise the owning group's status relative to non-owning groups and acting as an emergent crest for this group without affecting gender equality within the owning group. The proliferation of mask types, extension of the Sxwaixwe image to non-mask artifacts, and its expanding geographical distribution may be symptomatic of this developing group ranking. The examination of the Sxwaixwe according to Salish cultural patterns of ancestral benefactor, supernatural being, healer/transformer, male/female mediator, and bestower of wealth, worth, and ethnic identity demonstrates how its production and use is a means of manipulation and defining power, be it spiritual, political, economic or social. This examination of the Salish Sxwaixwe complex is based on an extensive inventory of museum collections, photographic and text archives, and an in depth analysis of the available written records. A typology of Sxwaixwe forms is included as well as an inventory of known Sxwaixwe objects and photographs.

Baggar, Mfedal.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis presents the concept and the application of the otherness in the french writing Author Salah Stétié. Three topics are particularly covered : linguistic otherness, female otherness and cultural otherness. A theoretic study of the concept of otherness as well as an historic insight into the representation of the other are the subject of the preliminaries. The first part is devoted to the study of the identity components of the poet : Lebanon, the Arabo-muslim culture and the Mediterranean. It shows how these components are related to the meeting of the other in East but also in Occident (countries) creating the composite of the Poet. The linguistic identity is the subject of the second part. Here we study the conditions which made that French language become the favourite mean of expression of the poet and how he proceeds to reconcile identity and otherness in this “foreign” language. The third part is devoted to the application of the otherness. We first analyze here how S. Stétié represents female otherness as well as social and literary influences. Secondly, we study his application of the cultural otherness. The cultural interbreeding and the mediation are the broad axis of our reflection. During this study, comparisons are brought together with other poets and writers to show that the works of S. STétié are at the same time original and open

Hanna, Maya.

Full text
Abstract:

Thompson, James J. "Syntactic nominalization in Halkomelem Salish." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/42183.

Full text
Abstract:
This dissertation is a detailed exploration of two constructions in Halkomelem Salish – Predicate Nominalization and Clausal Nominalization – which I group together as syntactic nominalization. I use these terms throughout to refer to the particular operations, and refer to the results of those operations as nominalized predicates and nominalized clauses, respectively. The two constructions examined here share some nominal morphological features. Both possess an /s-/ nominalizer, identical in shape with the nominalizer used to create (theme) participant nominals. Possessive agreement morphology appears in both nominalized predicates and nominalized clauses, indexing the highest argument in each. Despite these surface similarities and a common source, I argue that these two operations are synchronically distinct, and, as a corollary, that they are formed with distinct, homophonous nominalizers. In Chapter 3, I address predicate nominalization, which is used to create a predicate whose subject is interpreted as the theme of the non-nominalized predicate. I argue that predicate nominalization forms a reduced relative clause at the edge of the thematic domain, with the nominalizer functioning as a relative pronoun. I further argue that the nominalizer projects after remerge, thus creating a constituent with the internal structure of a relative clause and the external distribution of an NP. In Chapter 4, I argue that clausal nominalization forms a defective CP, which is used as the default embedded clause and as the dependent clause(s) in a clause chain. I analyze nominalizer in clausal nominalization as a complementizer that cannot convey illocutionary force. My analysis captures the fact that nominalized clauses have the formal properties and distribution of clauses rather than DPs, along with their embedded and clause-chaining uses. I take a cross-Salish perspective in Chapter 5, showing how attested variation within the family is compatible with my analyses.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The In Salah Gas field in Southern Central Algeria is a major gas discovery. Seven proven gas fields will deliver a total of 9 billion cubic meters of dry gas annually. The gas, will be transported to the market by a pipeline connecting the gas field to the major collection point at Hassi R’Mel. The gas will be fed into major gas transport lines at this point for delivery to market in Europe via the trans-Mediterranean pipeline systems. When full deliveries of In Salah gas are made from the field, they will increase the total gas exported from Algeria by about 15%. BP and Sonatrach jointly developed the project, and the In Salah Project opens a new area of Algeria, to development.
