Abstract:
Background: Enteric fever is an illness caused by Salmonella enterica serovars Typhi and Paratyphi A and B. The mode of transmission is the ingestion of contaminated food and water. Aim: To check that whether drinking water is the source of infection or not. Methodology: 202 water samples were collected from the various areas of Lahore. 120 samples were taken from houses and the neighbourhood of confirmed typhoid patients and 82 samples were randomly collected. The samples were centrifuged, enriched and then subcultured on XLD media. The isolated colonies were identified by biochemical reactio

Introduction: The present study is a retrospective analysis of a total of 36 cases of bacteriologically proven extra-intestinal salmonellosis, managed at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, between 1987 and 2012 (25 years). The extra-intestinal sites involved were the skin, cerebrum, spleen, ovary, synovium, and the skeletal muscle. Methodology: The extra-intestinal specimens were first processed using standard methods. Colonies suspected as Salmonella were identified by standard laboratory methods, initially by manual biochemical reactions and later by the API system (bioMerieux, Marcy l’E

Background: Salmonella enterica enterica serovar typhi/paratyphi is the causative agent of enteric (typhoid) fever, a life-threatening systemic illness, significantly impacting global health especially the developing nations. Although enteric fever can be treated effectively with antibiotics, it is becoming increasingly challenging due to the rising incidence of drug resistance. Aim: The aim was investigate the prevalence and antibiotic susceptibility patterns of Salmonella isolates from typhoid fever patients in order identify the multidrug-resistant trends. Abstract:
Accurate diagnosis of clinical Salmonella enterica and differentiation into its serovars is important from a public health and epidemiological point of view. Standard cultural, biochemical and polymerase chain reaction techniques were employed to isolate and identify Salmonella enteric serovars implicated in salmonellosis. This study was carried out between June 2015 and May 2016 in some selected hospitals in North-Western Nigeria. Four hundred and twenty stool samples were collected from patients clinically diagnosed of pyrexia and/or gastroenteritis. Of the 420 samples collected, 27 were pos

The study was aimed to ascertain the pathology of fowl paratyphoid and molecular detection of its causal agent (Salmonella spp) in chickens. Pathological and swab samples were collected from layers in Gazipur district, Bangladesh. For observing the gross and microscopic lesions of different organs necropsy and histopathology were done, and to isolate and identify the Salmonella spp, different bacteriological tests and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) were performed. Swabs from 150 chickens showed 66% of salmonellosis. Gram’s staining of isolated bacteria showed pink colored rod shaped bacilli.

Candida spp., are saprophytic yeasts capable of creating a favorable environment for bacterial infection, amplifying or inhibiting their activity. On the other hand, bacteria produce molecules that reduce the proliferation of Candida spp or promote their adherence to surfaces. The resurgence of typhoid and paratyphoid fevers in endemic individuals and the relative effectiveness of contemporary conventional therapies arouse curiosity to explore other factors that may influence, the re-emergence of infection in patients. Salmonella is a major pathogen causing foodborne infections in humans. Salmonella isolates are identified using biochemical and serological tests, including automated systems such as the VITEK2 system. However, there are few reports on Salmonella identification using VITEK MS. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the usefulness of MALDI-TOF VITEK MS for Salmonella identification. A total of 1389 Salmonella isolates were identified using VITEK MS ver3.0 or ver3.2. All Salmonella isolates were confirmed by serotyping using the Kauffmann-White scheme, and the results were compared with the VITEK MS re

Abstract:
After incubation in seawater Salmonella paratyphi B cells rapidly became unable to grow on bacteriological media. Previous adaptation to high osmolarity conditions greatly slowed down this process. Strains isolated from seawater microcosms after varying incubation periods were qualitatively different and showed changes in some of their growth (colony shape and size) and biochemical properties (acidification of some sugars, gelatinase activity, acetoin production, nitrate reduction). Because of these modifications, the bacteria showed atypical profiles and could not be identified as members of
