Pelvic inflammatory diseases (PID) are a pressing problem due to their high prevalence among patients of reproductive age and the negative impact on reproductive function. These are inflammatory diseases of the upper female reproductive tract, including endometritis, parametritis, salpingitis, oophoritis, tubo-ovarian abscess, pelvioperitonitis and their combinations. Therapy is prescribed empirically based on the predominant polymicrobial etiology of the disease.
