Full textThe late twentieth century and early twenty-first century have seen revived the debate about the relationship between history and literature, understood as fiction, in the sense of a blurring of boundaries between the two. Based on this premise, our study at the crossroads of these two concepts aims to show the links between contemporary Central American history and fiction in novels of Honduras-Salvadoran author Horacio Castellanos Moya. Indeed, the history of several Central American countries, marked by years of dictatorship, civil wars and political or economic violence has had a significant impact on many local authors. The fictional work of Horacio Castellanos Moya bears evident traces. To identify, understand their issues and how they appear in the novels, the study was divided into three main parts. The first deals with the biographical data Horacio Castellanos Moya as man and writer; the second, the main historical facts themed and the last of their stage in the work
Artigas, Prous Josep. "L'obra poètica de Salvador Estrem i Fa. Estudi i edició." Doctoral thesis, Universitat Rovira i Virgili, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/10803/461460.
The study object of this thesis is the poetical works of Salvador Estrem i Fa (Falset, 1893-1936). I propose its study and philological edition. The poetry of Estrem consists in four printed volumes —Les hores dolces, Elegia del Priorat i altres versos, La mala collita i El Crist de la Solitud—, a typescript of five poems —a book project that remained unpublished— and a collection of poems published in newspapers which were not collected in volume. The first part deals with the study of the poetry and has three chapters: on the one hand, a short biography of the poet in the context of the region and the time in which he lived; on the other hand, the critical analysis of these four books, allowing us to analyze the most important foundations of this poetry and its evolution over the years; finally, the detailed study of the language used by Estrem in his compositions, along with the changes taking, and the analysis of literary forms found in his poems. This study seeks to highlight the personality of Salvador Estrem and his work in the context of Catalan poetry during the studied period, as a representative of the authors located outside the predominant cultural centers, and to show the importance of the cultural movement to the Priorat region in this period. The second part is the philological edition of this poetry, preceded by the description of the testimonies, the textual history of the published books and the poetry not included in volume and the discussion about the editing criteria. Its purpose is to offer the poetry of Salvador Estrem to a current reader to be read without the graphic difficulties and the spelling conventions of an old edition. The thesis concludes with the references to the complete bibliography of Salvador Estrem, both published books and articles published in journals, and an appendix with the transcription of preserved discourses and the references to the correspondence.

Full textThis thesis was built from an interdisciplinary intersection between geography and literature. A proposal of epistemological research, this thesis proposes a definition of man in a part of Jorge Amado\'s work of urban theme. Mar Morto(1936); Tenda dos Milagres(1969); Jubiabá (1935) and A morte e a morte de Quincas Berro D\'Água (1959) were the chosen books. We argue that this construction is only possible from a questioning of their geographicities in a given geographical environment. All Jorge Amado\'s books worked throughout the chapters have an urban theme considering a geographical reading of Salvador with the corresponding concentration area in the neighborhood of downtown and vicinity. Issues such as class struggle, racial clashes, miscegenation, poor working conditions in the city, Afro-descendant culture and religion, women\'s role, popular social mobility, strength of the elements of nature, cityscapes, were important issues throughout the text. This thesis is based on an ontological reading, where man as a subject is the main theoretical concern. And the geographical foundation of man is guided in its geographical environment. Thus, we conclude that amadiano man to be set is one that is set in the city of Salvador which also contributes to its conceptualization. The geographical environment of the city of Salvador in Jorge Amado\'s books is also an element that establishes the being of man. Thus, we have the Jorge Amado geography built from these categories defined and inserted man in a geographical environment and bringing visibility to their geographicities.

Full textThis work aims to evaluate the influence of French literature in Salvadorenian literature throughout the rise and expansion of modernism. To this end, we have studied texts published in certain modernist publications from the end of the XIX century to the early years of the XX century. This study has enabled us to confirm the presence of French translated literature as evidence of the reception of this type of work. In addition, in some cases of missing information on the author or title of the text, it has been possible to locate the original work allowing comparisons to be carried out between the French and the Spanish versions. The analysis of a body of articles has led to the classification of these into four categories: French authors’ texts; quotes and references; divulgative texts; and texts with traces of French. In addition, we have shown which authors were more subject to translations or quoted, which literary movements have a stronger presence, or who translated more text in the publications studied. Reception and translation, French literature, El Salvador, modernism.

This research investigates female domestic workers in Recife and Salvador, their experiences, their struggles, their formation as a class and the precariousness of their lives, in the emancipation conjuncture of the final years of the nineteenth and early twentieth century. Through literature, fiction, criminal and civil lawsuits, newspaper advertisements and official documentation, I try to reconstitute the life experiences of black, half-breed and white domestics, slaves, free and manumitted. I argue that those domestics managed their lives in contexts of precariousness, but somehow succeeded to produce experiences of a class identity in formation. They not only were forming themselves as a class just from their own experiences. Literary texts produced by writers and memoirists from Bahia and Pernambuco tried to put them in social and racial subordinate places, attached to paternalistic and proslavery values still resistant to the advancement of formal rules of labor relations. But despite the wealth of literary sources in the production and dissemination of submission values and the subordinate place of the domestic work, I endorse that the set of social experiences of women who engaged in domestic work in the coming years pre and postemancipation put on suspicion idyllic images which associate domestic service to servilism, to harmony between employers and employees. Finally, despite the focus on class formation, I reconstituted wider experiences of popular daily conflicts in which the female domestic workers had participation, believing that not only in the working relationship a class is formed.
