Names constitute a key component of the cultural heritage of any region. Though geographically, culturally and linguistically apart, Estonia and Zambia share some elements and motivations in naming. The proposed article examines the principles of administrative-territorial division of the territory of Sambia, the center of the Prussian tribal area in the early Middle Ages, known from written and archaeological sources. The analysis allows us to draw the following conclusions: 1. Abstract:

Two “military” burials of the Sambian-Natangian culture are considered — Dollkeim-Kovrovo No. 269 and Kleinheide-Guryevsk No. 21 of the Great Migration Period, where there are burials of dogs. Burials with dogs in the early Middle Ages were widespread in the Germanic area, but extremely rarely found among the Balts. Apparently in Sambia, their appearance is associated with the influence of the funerary customs of the Germans, most likely from Central Europe. It is possible that these customs reflect military rituals associated with warriors-werewolves (wolves/dogs).

The semantic analysis of the images on the Prussian swords’ scabbard tips of the Viking Age was performed, for the first time in Russian archaeology. The spread of various subtypes of sword scabbard tips in the Prussian settlements and adjacent areas was considered. Sambia succinica gen. et sp.n. from Eocene Baltic amber is described and illustrated. It is apparently the first amber fossil that can be definitively assigned to Tenthredininae. It displays two diagnostic forewing characters for this subfamily: having a bend distally in vein R and the junctions of veins M and Rs + M with vein R being some distance from each other. The results of both onshore and offshore monitoring of the coastal zone in the Russian Baltic reveal the high intensity and recent acceleration of coastal dynamics caused by an increasing frequency of extreme hydrodynamic events and anthropogenic impacts on the diverse geology. The article discusses the dating of burial 3.2017 uncovered on the Roman Time Romanovo-Pugachevsky Pond burial ground in Northern Sambia. The burial consisted of the remains of the cremation of two men, placed in a large urn and accompanied by the burial of a horse. Some elements of costume were found in the urn (buckles, belt tips), weapons (spears, axes, umbons and shield maniples), as well as items of horse/rider equipment (bits, spurs). Based on the totality of items from the burial and taking into account radiocarbon dating, the burial is attributed to the year 70/80—200.

The detailed environmental survey of the coastal zone of the Kaliningrad Region northern coast was carried out. The pollutants distribution in the silty clay fraction and calculation of ecological indexes allowed the evaluation of distribution of potentially harmful elements (PHEs).
