Abstract Blood metabolites are used to assess a variety of animal conditions for veterinary diagnosis and research. Concentration of metabolites in blood can be measured using a commercially-available lab-based assay or in real-time using a handheld device developed to be more time- and cost-effective than the lab-based method. Lactate is a product of anaerobic glycolysis, used in animal research as an indicator of muscle fatigue. Therefore, it has been used as an indicator of cattle response to long distance transportation. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship of L-lactate concentrations measured using a Lactate Scout+ analyzer (Lactate Scout, EFK Diagnostics, Barleben, Germany) and a lactate assay colorimetric kit (Lactate Assay Kit, Cell Biolabs Inc., San Diego, CA). Blood samples were collected by venipuncture from 96 steers (245 ± 35.7 kg BW) prior to (L1) and after 36 h, and prior to and after an additional 4 h of road transportation, and on d 1, 2, 3, 5, 14, and 28 after transport. The Lactate Scout+ analyzer strip was dipped in blood at the time of sampling, while blood samples were collected into sodium fluoride tubes for use in colorimetric analysis. Pearson correlations were calculated to determine the relationship between the experimental methods for the quantification of L-lactate concentrations. The strengths and levels of statistical significance of the correlation varied over the observed time points, r = -0.03, P = 0.75 (L1) to r = 0.75, P = < 0.0001 (d 3). The correlation for the pooled data was weak but statistically significant (r = 0.33, P < 0.001). Based on the experimental results, the Lactate Scout+ analyzer is not a suitable alternative to a lab-based assay for measuring L-lactate in transported cattle, due to variability across sampling time points and weak correlation with the traditional enzymatic method.

It has been hypothesized that high non-physiological IGF-1 levels are partially responsible for the recurrent pregnancy loss observed in women with the polycystic ovary syndrome (Eng GS et al. 2007 Diabetes 56, 2228–2234). The aim of this study was to determine the effect of supraphysiological concentrations of IGF-1 on blastocyst production and the occurrence of apoptosis in bovine embryos, which are a good model for human embryo development (Baumann CG et al. 2007 Mol. Reprod. Dev. 74, 1345–1353). COC obtained by slicing from abattoir ovaries were matured (TCM-199, Sigma) for 24 h and fertilized (Fert-TALP) for 18 h (Day 0) in vitro. Two different IGF-1 (Recombinant human IGF-1, R&D Systems GmbH, Wiesbaden, Germany) concentrations (supraphysiological = 1000 ng mL–1 and physiological = 100 ng mL–1) were added to the culture media (Synthetic oviduct fluid/BSA) and compared with a control group (no IGF-1 supplementation). On Day 8, blastocyst rates (22 replicates) were recorded and DNA degradation was detected in blastocyst nuclei using a cell death detection kit (Roche Diagnostics GmbH, Mannheim, Germany) based on the terminal deoxinucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labelling (TUNEL) principle. Embryos (n = 27 [control], n = 29 [both IGF-1 groups]) from 4 replicates were examined by confocal laser scanning microscopy. Data were analyzed by ANOVA and the Fisher exact test using the SigmaStat 2.0 software package (Jandel Scientific, San Rafael, CA). Cleavage was numerically improved by both, 1000 (59.1 ± 1.8) and 100 (58.2 ± 2.8) ng IGF-1 over controls (53.5 ± 2.2), but the differences did not reach statistical significance (P = 0.22). The proportion of hatched blastocysts was enhanced by 100 (5.8 ± 1.0, P = 0.03) and 1000 (5.1 ± 0.7, P = 0.03) ng IGF-1 compared to controls (2.8 ± 0.6). Total blastocyst rate was increased by 100 ng IGF-1 (34.4 ± 1.9, P = 0.02) over controls (28.3 ± 1.7), but not by 1000 ng IGF-1 (29.1 ± 1.6 P = 0.75). The 100 ng IGF-1 group (38.5 ± 3.7) had fewer degenerated embryos (P = 0.01) compared to 1000 ng IGF-1 (49.7 ± 3.3). The proportion of embryos displaying at least one apoptotic cell was greater in the 1000 ng IGF-1 group over controls (96% v. 77% P = 0.04). The number of blastomeres with TUNEL-positive nuclei per embryo was higher in the supraphysiological group (5.5 ± 0.6, P < 0.001) compared with the control (2.3 ± 0.4) and the physiological group (2.5 ± 0.3). There were no significant differences between the control and the 100 ng IGF-1 group in this regard (P = 0.49). In conclusion, supraphysiological concentrations of IGF-1 do not increase blastocyst production but increase levels of apoptosis in bovine embryos produced in vitro. M. A. Abstract Abstract 4487 HLA mismatch constitute the risk of aGvHD. However, environmental factors play a significant role what is exemplified by the protective effect of germ free environment. This association can be discussed on the ground of a significant role of cytokine milieu which determines lymphocytes subsets differentiation. Our previous work showed a decrease of proportions of Th17 cells in blood at the onset of aGvHD (Dlubek et al., Transplantation Proceedings 2010; 42(8):3277-9). These cells, however, were seen at the tissue site likely being marginalized during aGvHD process. In this study we looked at Th17 lymphocytes proportions in blood of patients post alloHSCT in the context of an increase of C-reactive protein in serum and NOD2/CARD15 gene mutations. Eighty four patients (median age: 41 yrs, range: 1–64 yrs) entered the study. All of them were clinically followed for the presence of infections complications and aGvHD. Blood work was done at the very first day of the later complications and in addition routinely in one week intervals beginning from the day of transplantation. The cells were labeled for CD4 (Becton Dickinson, San Jose, CA, USA), intracellular IL-17A (e-biosciences, San Diego, CA, U04)SA) and FoxP3 (Becton Dickinson, San Jose, CA, USA) detection. CRP was measured in serum using a Behring BN Prospect nephelometer (Dade Behring Inc., Marburg, Germany). All studied cases were genotyped for NOD2/CARD15 mutations: 104C-T (SNP8, Arg702W; rs.2066844), 2722G-C (SNP12, Gly908Arg; rs.2066845), and 3020insC (SNP13, Leu1007fsinsC; rs.2066847) with the use of RFLP-PCR technique. It was found: Acute GvHD manifestation was seen in 34 (40%) patients among them 22 (26%) had only skin symptoms and 12 (14%) presented gut manifestation. Gut aGvHD was seen at later time post HSCT than skin aGvHD (median 33 vs. 21 days, M-W U test p=0.035).Twelve patients had NOD2/CARD15 mutations. They had lower proportions of Th17 lymphocytes in blood as compared to those lacking these mutations (median 0.03 vs. 0.07%, M-W U test p=0.052) and 6 (50%) of them presented aGvHD.CRP levels measured from 3 to 5 days before clinically apparent aGvHD were significantly higher in patients with gut symptoms as compared to those presented only skin lesions (median 66.8 vs. 7.61 mg/L, M-W U test p=0.020). Notably, patients having only skin symptoms had rather lower CRP levels in sera than those without aGvHD (median 7.61 vs. 27.6 mg/L, M-W U test p=0.028).In patients with gut manifestation FoxP3+CD4+ cells proportions were negatively correlated with serum CRP levels (Spearman r −0.664, p=0.018) what was not seen in patients presented only skin symptoms aGvHD (0.068, p=0.769). In conclusion: CRP elevation constituted the risk of gut aGvHD and was associated with rather exhausted T regulatory cell function. NOD2/CARD15 mutations associated factors contributed to the lowering of Th17 cells in blood what was previously found to be associated with the overt manifestation of aGvHD (Dlubek et al., Transplantation Proceedings 2010; 42(8):3277-9). These both findings are in line with the hypothetical role of microbial pathogens which via inflammation favor differentiation of lymphocytes to Th17 positive cell subset. MacWhinney, Bates, and colleagues developed the Competition Model in the 1980s as an alternate to Chomskyan models that encapsulate syntax as a special-purpose module. The Competition Model adopted the functional perspective that language serves communicative goals and functions. In contrast to the premise that knowledge of language is innate, the Competition model asserts that language is learned and processed through general cognitive mechanisms that identify and weight phonological, morphological, syntactic, and semantic cues in the language experiences of the learner. These weighted cues guide the language user in the comprehension and production of language forms. The present article provides background on the Competition Model, describes machine simulations of linguistic competition, and extends the principles of the Competition Model to new machine models and applications through deep learning networks.

Glucocorticoids are mediators of the systemic stress response. Acute or chronic stress characterised by high cortisol concentrations in the periphery impairs reproductive function in a variety of species and therefore may affect fertility. The ovary has been shown to be a target tissue for glucocorticoids in many species, including the mare. This study hypothesised that the equine ovary possesses internal mechanisms to modulate cortisol activity and that supraphysiologic levels of glucocorticoids do not affect oocyte IVM rates. Light horse mares (n = 9) were used in this study. Growing follicles from an induced follicular wave were divided into the following groups: G1: 5–9 mm, G2: 10–14 mm, G3: 15–19 mm, G4: 20–24 mm, and G5: ≥25 mm. Follicular fluid (FF) and compact cumulus‐oocyte complexes (COCs) were obtained by ultrasound-guided transvaginal aspiration. Blood samples were collected at the beginning and the end of every aspiration session. Cortisol (DE1887, Demeditec, Kiel-Wellsee, Germany), progesterone (ADI-901–011, Enzo Life Sciences, Farmingdale, NY, USA), and corticosteroid binding globulin (CBG, MBS047353, MyBioSource, San Diego, CA, USA) concentrations were determined by ELISA. COCs (n = 80) were randomly distributed to either the control group (DMEM-F12+ medium) or the following hydrocortisone treatment groups: 0.1 µg mL–1, 1 µg mL–1, 5 µg mL–1, 10 µg mL–1. Maturation rate was assessed 30 h after incubation. Statistical analysis was performed with the SPSS Statistics 22 software. Data were analysed using one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and chi-squared test. Cortisol (115.4 ± 13.3 ng mL–1) and progesterone (22.1 ± 3.1 ng mL–1) FF concentrations were higher (P < 0.05) in G5 follicles than in all other groups, and were positively correlated (r = 0.8; P < 0.001). Plasma concentrations of cortisol (118.6 ± 7.8 v. 120.3 ± 12.2 ng mL–1), progesterone (2.4 ± 0.5 v. 2.5 ± 0.4 ng mL–1), and CBG (11.1 ± 5.1 v. 9.9 ± 3.2 µg mL–1) did not differ before and after follicle aspiration. However, plasma CBG and progesterone were negatively correlated (r = –0.56; P < 0.01). Maturation rates did not differ among groups, regardless of the hydrocortisone concentration added to the culture medium. Our results demonstrated higher cortisol concentrations in preovulatory follicles in vivo, suggesting its importance for oocyte maturation. The greater unbound cortisol available in the FF of preovulatory follicles can be indicative of the displacement of cortisol from CBG in favour of progesterone. Furthermore, equine oocytes were capable of surviving cortisol concentrations 100 times higher than those physiologically present in preovulatory follicles. This finding suggests the ability of equine oocytes to modulate cortisol levels and adapt to stress situations.

Introduction. The purpose of the paper is to justify the possibility of developing ontology of augmented reality as a special sphere of social space. A comparative analysis of approaches to the interpretation of reality in philosophy and theoretical sociology is carried out. The original provisions of the conceptual model of social reality and social actuality have been formulated. The concepts of actual and virtual social actions are introduced and analyzed.Methodology and sources. The main provisions of phenomenological sociology are used as the methodological basis of the study: A. Schutz's interpretation of social reality as a fragment of being translated into the world of intersubjective, and P. Berger and T. Luckmann's characterization of the reality of society as a process of its construction in practical activities. The features of augmented reality, revealed in the works of R. Azuma, P. Milgram, A. F. Kishino, H. Papagiannis, A. M. Larsen, S. A. Glazkova, O. N. Kislova and other researchers, are taken into account. Descriptions of the characteristics of augmented reality devices are derived from reports from research center heads: the descriptions of the characteristics of augmented reality devices are derived from reports from the heads of research centers involved in the development and implementation of digital technologies: universities in London, Tokio and Toronto, Hasso-Plattner Institute in Germany, Finnish company Senseg, company Disney Research, company High Fidelity, MIT self-assembly labs, MIT Media Lab Group, San Francisco-based Detour startup, Google and Microsoft etc.Results and discussion. Augmented reality complicates virtual reality, adding to its content in addition to fictional characteristics the content of practical actions. Augmented reality, using the virtual reality resource, becomes reality as the basis of practice. Augmented reality not only “begets” the world, but is in direct practical contact with it, thus becoming a special side of social reality.

ABSTRACT Purpose To evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of the Pentacam topometric indices derived from the corneal surface curvature to distinguish between normal and keratoconic corneas. Methods The study consisted of 226 normal corneas from 113 patients and 88 keratoconic eyes from 44 patients. Eyes were defined as keratoconus based on comprehensive ocular examination, including Placido-disk-based corneal topography (Atlas Corneal Topography System; Humphrey, San Leandro, California) and rotating Scheimpflug corneal tomography (Pentacam HR; Oculus, Wetzlar, Germany). Corneal Topometric indices ISV, IVA, KI, CKI, IHA and IHD, along with the TKC (Topometric Keratoconus Classification) score were calculated from the Pentacam HR exam. Statistical analysis were accomplished using BioEstat 5.0 (Instituto Mamiraua, Amazonas, Brazil) and MedCalc 12.0 (MedCalc Software, Mariakerke, Belgium) using unpaired nonparametric Mann Whitney test (Wilcoxon ranked-sum). ROC curves were calculated for each topometric parameter to determine the best cut off values from the significantly different parameters. A logistic regression analysis was performed to provide a combined parameter for optimizing accuracy. Results Statistical significant differences were found between keratoconic and normal corneas for all topometric indices (Mann Whitney, p < 0.05). There were four false negative cases among the keratoconic cases on the TKC classification (4.54%) and 16 false positive cases among normal (7.08%), so that the sensitivity and specificity of the TKC were 95.54 and 92.92% respectively. The areas under the ROC curves (AUC) for the individual topometric indices varied from 0.843 (CKI) and 0.992 (ISV). The sensitivity and specificity of the most accurate ISV were 97.7 and 96.5% respectively. The calculated parameter from logistic regression had AUC of 0.996, with sensitivity of 97.7% and specificity of 98.7%. Conclusion Pentacam topometric indices were useful for distinguishing between normal and keratoconic corneas. The TKC classification should be expected to have false positives and negatives and should not be considered alone. TKC had more false positives and false negatives than some individual topometric parameters. A novel combined parameter based on logistic regression analysis may improve accuracy for the diagnosis of keratoconus. Further studies are necessary to evaluate if adding other curvature derived indices is beneficial for the regression analysis, as well as for testing the sensitivity of such parameters for the diagnosis of milder forms of ectasia and for testing correlations with severity of the disease. Background:Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease that involves several molecular patterns with a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations and symptoms. Inflammation and related pathway play a role in SLE pathogenesis. The pentraxin superfamily including long and short pentraxin, C Reactive Protein CRP, Serum amyloid A (SAA), Pentraxin 3 (PTX3) are key components of innate immune system and induce a variety of inflammation associated pathway. However Literature provides several evidences that CRP serum levels not correlated with clinical and immunological manifestations. This situation affected clinical practice and the patient follow up. PTX3 have been identified as a component of inflammatory status in several autoimmune conditions. SAA is an acute phase protein secreted in large quantity during inflammation.Objectives:We want to evaluated SAA, PTX3 and CRP concentrations, their correlation between SLE Disease Activity Index (SLEDAI), that including complement fractions C3, C4.Methods:We enrolled fifty patients that fulfilled the SLE American College of Rheumatology criteria and fifty healthy subjects. The SLE disease activity was classified with the SLEDAI (0 to 12). Patients were divided into two groups according to SLEDAI score: inactive group (Group 1, 25 patients, 50%: SLEDAI < 4) and active group (Group 2, 25 patients, 50%: SLEDAI 5 to 12). PTX3 concentration was measured by a sandwich ELISA kit (Hycult) with 2.8 ng/mL cut-off point. SAA concentration was detected by nephelometry performed on a BN ProSpec System (Siemens, Germany), with assay kit based on polyclonal antibodies (Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics Products, Germany, 6.5 mg/L cut-off point). High sensitive CRP concentrations were determined using the ci8200 platform (Abbott Laboratories Chicago, Illinois).Results:Plasma PTX3 and serum SAA levels was significantly higher in SLE patients than in the healthy subjects (PTX311.5 ± 7.3 ng/mL vs 2.3 ± 1.1; p < 0.001; SAA: 87 ±77 mg/L vs 2.6±2.5; p < 0.001). These differences were not evident in CRP levels (8.5 ± 7.8 mg/L vs 6.2± 2.5). Considering two groups, there were statistical differences in PTX3 level (Group 2: 14.9 ± 12 ng/mL vs Group 1: 2.16 ±0.5 ng/mL, p<0,05) and SAA concentration (Group 2: 114 ± 89 ng/mL vs Group 1: 3.6 ±1.7 ng/mL, p<0,05) but not in CRP concentration (Group 2: 11.5 ± 8.4 mg/L vs Group 1: 9.5 ±3.5). There was a significantly negative correlation between C3, C4 fractions, PTX3 and SSA levels (respectively r = −0.74, p=<0.05, and r = −0.79, p<0.05). No statistical correlation were appeared between C3, C4 fractions and CRP serum levels (r= −0,12., p= 0.82, and r= −0.18, p= 0,21). We noted a positive significant correlation between SLEDAI, PTX3 and SAA concentration (r = 0.79, p < 0.05, 0.83, p < 0.05, respectively) an increase in PTX3 and SAA levels followed the lupus flare and symptoms. No significant correlation appeared between SLEDAI and CRP (r= 0.15, p=0.89)Conclusion:PTX3 and SAA concentration was significantly higher in SLE patients than the healthy control subjects and their levels reflected disease activity. We showed a direct correlation between PTX3 and SAA. In SLE patients PTX3 and SAA concentrations were correlated with SLEDAI. We suggest an integrate viewpoint in witch SAA and PTX3 may play a role as a biomarker of disease activity, with synergic work during SLE events. Abstract Background We have previously reported on the high prevalence and severity of insomnia amongst a large international cohort of MPN patients (Emanuel JCO 2012). We sought to further analyze the relationships between insomnia and the MPN disease features (in particular splenomegaly, status of blood counts), individual MPN symptom prevalence and severity, language, and overall quality of life. Methods Data was collected among an international cohort of patients with MPNs. Subjects completed the BFI, MPN-SAF, and EORTC QLQ-C30 instruments. Surveyed symptoms on the MPN-SAF included the patient’s perceptions of common MPN-related symptoms and overall quality of life (QOL) on a 0 (absent) to 10 (worst imaginable) scale. Specifically, the MPN-SAF insomnia item asked about “difficulty sleeping”. Total symptom score (TSS) was computed based on 10 symptom items using the published scoring algorithm on a 0 (all reported symptoms absent) to 100 (all reported symptoms worst imaginable) scale. Pairwise associations between the MPN-SAF insomnia item and continuous and categorical covariates were investigated using Pearson correlations and analysis of variance/t-tests, respectively. Multivariate regression models were used to investigate impact of groups of covariates on the insomnia item with the final multivariate model selected using forward regression. Results Demographics A total of 1992 MPN patients (essential thrombocythemia=834, polycythemia vera=703, myelofibrosis=449, unknown=6) completed the insomnia item. Participants were of typical age (median=61, range-15-94) and gender (female=54%). Overall, 1307 subjects endorsed the MPN insomnia item (score >0) with an overall mean symptom score of 3.0 (median=2.0, SD=3.1. range=0-10); 603/1992 (30%) of patients had severe insomnia related complaints (score >4). Univariate Analysis Among QLQ-C30 functioning scales, emotional functioning most highly correlated with the MPN-SAF insomnia item (r=-.47, p<0.001) with all other domains also having statistically significant but slightly weaker correlation (all p<0.001). Among QLQ-C30 symptom scales, insomnia (r=.79, p<0.001) and fatigue (r=.45, p<0.001) most highly correlated with the MPN-SAF insomnia item with all other QLQ-C30 symptoms having correlations between .13 and .37 (all p<.001). Among MPN-SAF items, the MPN-SAF insomnia item correlated with all MPN-SAF items (all p<0.001) including the TSS (r=0.55, p<0.001) and most highly with depression (r=.52, p<0.001), concentration problems (r=.43, p<0.001), overall QOL (r=.41, p<0.001), night sweats (r=.41, p<0.001), and extremity tingling (r=.40, p<0.001). MPN-SAF insomnia significantly differed by gender (means: M 2.4, F 3.4; p<0.001), language (means ranged from 2.6 [Italian] to 3.6 [German]; p=0.01), anemia (means: absent 2.8, present 3.5; p<0.001), prior hemorrhage (means: no 2.9, yes 3.7; p=0.01), and requiring red blood cell transfusion (means: no 2.9, yes 3.6; p=0.03), with a trend for a difference by MPN type (ET mean=2.7, PV mean=3.0, MF mean=3.2; p=0.06). Multivariate Analysis In a multivariate model of MPN-SAF insomnia containing all QLQ-C30 functioning scales, physical, emotional, and cognitive functioning along with global health status/QOL were all significant (all p<0.001). Numerous symptoms were also significant in a multivariate model of MPN-SAF insomnia containing all other MPN-SAF symptoms (all p<0.05: headaches, extremity tingling, depression, sexual problems, night sweats, pruritus, fever, and QOL). The final multivariate model based on forward regression starting with all demographics, clinical variables, and patient-reported QLQ-C30 scales and MPN-SAF items found age, gender, QLQ-C30 emotional functioning and MPN-SAF items to be significant. Conclusions Insomnia is highly prevalent and severe in MPN patients and closely correlates with most other MPN-related symptoms and functional domains bearing a multi-faceted impact on overall quality of life. Correlations between insomnia and emotional, cognitive, and physical complaints including depression/sad mood, concentration problems, night sweats, and numbness/tingling in the extremities suggest that the cause of MPN-related sleep complaints is likely complex. Future studies should evaluate the impact of interventions on MPN associated insomnia as well as its biological underpinnings. Abstract INTRODUCTION: Ig light chain (LC) diseases such as systemic AL amyloidosis (AL) and κ light chain deposition disease (LCDD) cause organ damage and are treated with chemotherapeutic agents targeting the clonal plasma cells producing the LC. Not all patients respond to therapy and responding patients remain at risk of relapse. New treatments are needed. In theory, alternative approaches that directly target LC for reduction include novel enzymatic agents (Infect Immun. 2003;71:2563), agents that retard LC monomerization (eLife. 2015;4:e10935. doi:10.7554), anti-light chain monoclonal antibodies (Blood 2004;104:2416), and small interfering RNAs that impair LC production (Gene Therapy 2016;23:727). In order to study such approaches, murine xenograft models with circulating human LC can provide useful experimental systems even if the models do not recapitulate the organ damage of human disease. Alternative measures of tumor activity would be useful in such models in order to confirm the impact of interventions on LC. To provide an in vivo model, we tested RPMI 8226, ALMC-1, NCI-H929 and JJN3 human myeloma reporter cell lines stably expressing FFL and GFP in NOD scid γ (NSG) mice using different routes of inoculation. We sought an optimal xenograft model that would provide reliable tumor-take, brief latency for circulating LC, rapid short-term increase in LC levels, measurable β2-microglobulin (β2M) levels and ease of administration of multiple injections of investigational agents. MATERIALS & METHODS: Five-week old female NSG mice were obtained from Jackson Laboratories. RPMI 8226 (λ) and NCI-H929 (κ) human myeloma cell lines were obtained from ATCC (Manassas, VA, USA), and the JJN3 (κ) cell line from the German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (Braunschweig, Germany). ALMC-1 cells (IgGλ+λ) were a gift from D Jellinek. All cells were tested for mycoplasma and cultured as directed. The cell lines were infected with a lentiviral construct expressing firefly luciferase and GFP (Biosettia, San Francisco, CA). Cells were introduced via flank injections (5x106 cells) with Matrigel or via intra-peritoneal (IP) injection (107 cells). Mice were regularly observed for health irregularities, were bled via submandibular vein and imaged with luciferin at intervals. Collected sera were tested by ELISA for λ or κ light chains (Bethyl Laboratories, Montgomery, TX) and for β-2 microglobulin (R&D Systems, Minneapolis, MN). RESULTS: The latency periods for flank plasmacytomas exceeded 3 weeks in all cases. The use of ALMC-1 cells in an IP model also was hampered by a lengthy latency period > 3 weeks. We were able to compare JJN3, RPMI 8226 and H929 cells in IP models. As shown in Table 1, the NSG JJN3 IP model has a 90% tumor-take and a 5-day LC latency. In this model, IP xenograft CD138+ cells are found in liver (subcapsular) and spleen at sacrifice on day 12. On day 5, the NSG JJN3 IP mice have median serum levels (Q1-Q3) of κ LC and β2M of 2.37μg/mL (1.68-3.32) and 1.56ρg/mL (0.58-5.38), values that strongly correlate (r=0.76, P<<0.01), as do the day 5 κ LC and FLUX values (r=0.88, P<<0.01). That RPMI 8226 cells make negligible amounts of β2M has been previously identified (Transplant Rev 1974;21:53). CONCLUSIONS: The ALMC-1, RPMI 8226 and H929 IP models did not meet the criteria we required in order to effectively test specific interventions on circulating LC (Table 1). The NSG JJN3 IP model had a short latency period for LC, β2M and FLUX measurements, and had significant correlations among these measurements. The NSG JJN3 model met our criteria. We are currently evaluating soluble BCMA levels in this model also, These measurements will allow investigators to distinguish the impact of interventions on LC specifically, independent of tumor cells. We have used this model successfully to test an RNAi approach to reducing κ LC by knocking down expression of the LC mRNA using siRNA specific for the LC constant region delivered via lipidoid nanoparticle. The feasibility of multiple IP injections of volumes as high as 600uL is also a strength of this model; tail vein injections in the 20g NSG mice are difficult to perform more than a small number of times. O objetivo deste estudo transversal foi investigar a prevalência de (In)segurança Alimentar e Nutricional (IAN/SAN) em pessoas que vivem com HIV/AIDS atendidas no Serviço Especializado em Moléstias Infecto-Contagiosas de Limeira, SP, (SEMIL). Foram recrutados indivíduos com idade superior a 19 anos, em Terapia Anti-Retroviral de Alta Efetividade (HAART) que foram entrevistados utilizando-se a Escala Brasileira de Insegurança Alimentar (EBIA), um questionário sócio-demográfico e um recordatório de 24h, além da realização da avaliação do estado nutricional. Participaram da pesquisa 102 indivíduos, sendo 56,9% homens e 43,1% mulheres. Observou-se prevalência de 51,0% de IAN e de 58,8% de desemprego. A idade média do grupo foi de 45 (±10,7) anos e a escolaridade em anos completos foi de 7,2 (±3,5) anos. Houve associação estatisticamente significante entre a situação de IAN/SAN e o consumo de carne e de doces, com maior proporção de consumo de carne em pessoas em SAN (p=0,0040) e de não consumo de doces em pessoas em IAN (p=0,0290). O grupo em SAN apresentou renda per capita de aproximadamente R$927,9 (±733,0), enquanto o grupo em IAN apresentou renda de R$544,8 (±335,7) mensais (p=0,0009). O grupo que não consumiu frutas apresentou uma renda per capita de R$622,0 (±418,3), enquanto o grupo que consumiu apresentou renda de R$904,0 (±771,6) (p=0,0188). Houve correlação estatisticamente significante entre IMC e renda somente no grupo classificado em SAN (p=0,0170). Em conclusão, foi possível observar alta prevalência de IAN em pessoas que vivem com HIV/AIDS, além de outras situações de vulnerabilidade.

San Marzano (SM) is a traditional Italian landrace characterized by red elongated fruits, originating in the province of Naples (Italy) and cultivated worldwide. Three mutations, yellow flesh (r), green flesh (gf) and colorless fruit epidermis (y) were introduced into SM by backcross and the resulting introgression lines (ILs) produced the expected yellow, brown and pink fruit variants. In addition, ILs carrying double combinations of those mutations were obtained. The six ILs plus the SM reference were analyzed for volatile (VOC), non-polar (NP) and polar (P) metabolites. Sixty-eight VOCs were identified, and several differences evidenced in the ILs; overall gf showed epistasis over r and y and r over y. Analysis of the NP component identified 54 metabolites; variation in early carotenoids (up to lycopene) and chlorophylls characterized respectively the ILs containing r and gf. In addition, compounds belonging to the quinone and xanthophyll classes were present in genotypes carrying the r mutation at levels higher than SM. Finally, the analysis of 129 P metabolites evidenced different levels of vitamins, amino acids, lipids and phenylpropanoids in the ILs. A correlation network approach was used to investigate metabolite–metabolite relationships in the mutant lines. Altogether these differences potentially modified the hedonistic and nutritional value of the berry. In summary, single and combined mutations in gf, r and y generated interesting visual and compositional diversity in the SM landrace, while maintaining its original typology.

The objective was optimize the flocculating capacity of three varities of cacti Echinopsis pachanoi (San Pedro), Neoraimondia arequipenses (Ulluquite) and Opuntia ficus (Tuna) in the artificial wastewater treatment. They were applied 1%, 2% and 3% coagulant doses of the three varieties of cactaceae extracted with 96% ethanol. It was evaluated the flocculating activity (FA) and removal percentage (%R); a significant increase was observed (p-value < 0.05) with the increase in the coagulant dose. The optimization was carried out considering as objective function the %R which were subjected to FA, pH, hardness, alkalinity and BOD5 of water treatment. Which were reported values of 99.09 %R for San Pedro variety, 92.42 %R for Ulluquite variety and 98.98 %R for tuna variety, for doses of 0.207%, 0.246% and 0.754% of coagulant respectively.

Introducción: Existe escasa información y no actualizada sobre la presencia de triatominos en el departamento de San Martín, zona amazónica de nuestro país, y es importante actualizarla, ya que hay reportes recientes de casos de enfermedad de Chagas procedentes de la amazonía peruana cuyos vectores serían triatominos silvestres. Objetivos: Conocer la distribución geográfica de triatominos hematófagos en Huallaga y Picota, San Martín, Perú. Determinar los índices entomológicos, sus hábitos alimenticios y caracterizar los tripanosomatídeos que portan. Diseño: Investigación descriptiva observacional. Lugar: Red de Salud Huallaga y Picota, Laboratorio Regional de la Región de Salud San Martín. Laboratorios del Instituto Nacional de Salud. Participantes: Viviendas de 6 distritos de las provincia de Huallaga y 9 de Picota, del Departamento de San Martín. Intervenciones: La búsqueda de triatominos fue en 3 362 viviendas de áreas periurbanas y rurales. Mediante la prueba de precipitina, se determinó la fuente de alimentación. Se aisló tripanosomatídeos mediante infección en ratones Balb/C e inoculación en medio agar sangre, y por PCR se caracterizó el genoma por amplificación del espaciador intergénico del gen miniexón. Principales medidas de resultados: Determinar si Huallaga y Picota, San Martín, Perú, son zonas de riesgo de enfermedad de Chagas. Resultados: En 46 viviendas, de 3 362 muestreadas se capturó 53 triatominos adultos pertenecientes a Rhodnius pictipes (56,6%), Panstrongylus geniculatus (41,5%) y Eratyrus mucronatus (1,9%). Se reporta P. geniculatus por primera vez para las dos provincias. Los índices de infestación para ambas provincias fueron 1,4% y 3,8%, respectivamente, y corresponden al índice de infección natural; mientras que el índice de dispersión fue 30,1%. En R. pictipes se identificó cinco fuentes de alimentación (pollo, humano, perro, cobayo y gato) y en P. geniculatus un perfil alimentario mixto: perro/gato/pollo. Los Trypanosoma spp. aislados de R. pictipes, procedente de Sacanche (Huallaga), corresponden a TCI (350 pb); resultado similar se obtuvo en los 10 clones de este aislamiento. Conclusiones: Los resultados nos indican que, en las localidades estudiadas, R. pictipes y P. geniculatus estarían pasando por un proceso de domiciliación y que en las localidades de Huallaga R. pictipes sería el principal vector de Trypanosoma cruzi TC1; por lo que, dichas localidades estarían consideradas como zonas de riesgo de enfermedad de Chagas.

The work is based on primary and secondary sources. The method used is empirical. In the imagery of the revolutionary syndicalist world, Brabo Portillo was the most hated policeman, the reincarnation of the murkiest face of the state. He was also a German spy connected with the sinking of Spanish ships, the murder of businessman and engineer Josep Barret and the first head of the terrorists linked to Barcelona employers. RESUMENLa historia del cristianismo no se entiende sin el complejo fenómeno mariano. El culto mariano ha afianzado la construcción de identidades colectivas, pero también individuales. La figura de la Virgen María estableció un modelo de conducta desde cada contexto histórico-cultural, remarcando especialmente los ideales de maternidad y virginidad. Dentro del imaginario católico, la Europa contemporánea ha estado marcada por la formación de una cultura aparicionista que se ha generadoa partir de diversas apariciones marianas que han establecido un canon y un marco de interpretación que ha alimentado las guerras culturales entre secularismo y catolicismo.PALABRAS CLAVE: catolicismo, Virgen María, cultura aparicionista, Lourdes, guerras culturales.ABSTRACTThe history of Christianity cannot be understood without the complex Marian phenomenon. Marian devotion has reinforced the construction of collective, but also of individual identities. The figure of the Virgin Mary established a model of conduct through each historical-cultural context, emphasizing in particular the ideals of maternity and virginity. RESUMEN:En este artículo, procedemos a estudiar el traspaso familiar del oficio manufacturero,concretamente el de la platería, a través de tres generaciones de la familia Gálvez a lo largo de la centuria dieciochesca. Para ello, hemos esbozado la situación actual de la historia de la familia con respecto a su interés sobre los sectores artesanales para posteriormente adentrarnos, tras unos datos concretos del linaje, en los talleres y su evolución de forma conjunta con las trayectorias vitales de los individuos, haciendo hincapié en la importancia de las relaciones entre los consanguíneos para el progreso laboral.PALABRAS CLAVE: Antequera, siglos XVIII, familia, artesanos, platerosABSTRACT:In this paper, I study the family transfer of the manufacturing trade, specifically that of silversmiths, through three generations of the Gálvez family throughout the 18th century. Abstract Abstract 3839 BACKGROUND: We have previously reported on the validation of the 18 item Myeloproliferative Neoplasm Assessment Form (MPN-SAF) (Blood 2011;118:401–408) given in conjunction with the 9 item Brief Fatigue Inventory (BFI) (Cancer 1999;85:1186–1196) to assess symptomatic burden in an international sample of MPN patients (pts), including validation in English, Italian, Swedish, German, French, Spanish, and Dutch. We desired to assess the utility of an average total symptom score (TSS) from the most pertinent and representative MPN symptoms for purposes of assessing the burden of symptoms in MPN pts, and subsequent tracking in response to therapy. METHODS: Data was collected among an international cohort of MPN pts and their physicians, including patient demographics and disease features and completion the BFI, MPN-SAF and the EORTC-QLQ-C30. Among pts who completed at least 5 of 10 specific items on the BFI and MPN-SAF, an average score was calculated as the TSS. TSS items included “worst” fatigue from the BFI and 9 items from the MPN-SAF including concentration, early satiety, inactivity, night sweats, itching, bone pain, abdominal discomfort, weight loss and fever. The TSS thus had a possible range of 0–10 with 10 representing the highest level of symptom severity. Data was then analyzed for internal consistency, and divergent, convergent validity, and construct validity. RESULTS: Patient Demographic and Disease Characteristics:1433 MPN pts were prospectively enrolled (Argentina 22, France 482, Germany 59, Italy 186, Netherlands 236, Puerto Rico 10, United Kingdom 57, United States 102, Spain 157, Sweden 114, Uruguay 8) including 594 ET, 538 PV and 293 MF pts (8 missing; MF: 61% Primary MF, 23% post-ET MF, 15% post-PV MF). 1408 pts completed at least 5 of the 10 items necessary to calculate a TSS. Pts were of characteristic age (mean 62, range 20–94) and gender (54% female) common to disease. TSS Burden of MPN Symptoms: Consistent with prior studies, the majority of pts (>50%) were symptomatic in each TSS item except for items associated with high disease severity, namely bone pain (48.6%), weight loss (30.6%) and fever (18.4%). Fatigue carried the highest symptom intensity (4.4, SD=2.8), followed by problems with concentration (2.5, SD=2.8) and early satiety (2.5, SD=2.7). Overall mean TSS was 2.1 (SD=1.6). Divergent Validity: TSS significantly differed among MPN disease subtypes (p<0.001) with means of 1.9 (SD=1.5), 2.2 (SD=1.6), and 2.5 (SD=1.7) for ET, PV, and MF pts, respectively. Statistically significant differences in TSS were also observed between pts with clinically deficient (>4, n=480) versus non-clinically deficient QOL (<4, n=894; mean 3.3 versus 1.5; p<0.001). When comparing to MD perceptions, TSS was significantly higher when MDs rated >2 of 6 common MPN-related symptoms as clinically significant (2.8, n=400) versus <2 symptoms (1.6, n=726; p<0.001). No significant trends were observed when comparing disease type by the presence of a current medical therapy. Convergent Validity: The TSS was strongly correlated with patient-reported QOL (r=0.59, p<0.001). Overall excellent correlations existed between the TSS and EORTC-QLQ-C30 functional subscales (all p<0.001 and r>0.50 except social functioning [r=0.48]). Additionally, excellent correlations were observed between the TSS and EORTC-QLQ-C30 fatigue and pain symptom scales (r>0.5, p<0.001). Internal Consistency and Construct Validity: The TSS had excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha=0.83). Factor analysis identified a single underlying construct among the 10 TSS items (significant eigenvalues being >1). Factor loadings ranged from 0.43 for fever and weight loss to 0.71 for inactivity. The single factor suggests that the arithmetic mean of the 10 items is an appropriate global TSS score. CONCLUSION: The TSS demonstrated excellent psychometric properties. Overall, results of validity and internal consistency indicate that the TSS is a concise, valid, and accurate assessment of symptom burden among MPN pts. This new scoring will facilitate ease of implementation of the MPN-SAF into larger clinical trials and reduce ambiguity associated with interpreting response outcomes. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of affective temperament profiles and emotional and behavioural characteristics with Internet addiction among high school students. The study sample included 303 high school students. A sociodemographic characteristics data form, internet addiction scale (IAS), the strengths and difficulties questionnaire, and the temperament evaluation of Memphis, Pisa, Paris, and San Diego autoquestionnaire were used to collect data. Of the sample, 6.6% were found to be addicted to Internet. Having a computer in the home (P<0.001) and using the Internet for more than two years (P<0.001) were found to be related to higher scores on the IAS. The prevalence rate of anxious temperament for Internet addicts was more than that for nonaddicts (P<0.001). Dysthymic (r=0.199; P<0.01), cyclothymic (r=0.249; P<0.01), hyperthymic (r=0.156; P<0.01), irritable (r=0.254; P<0.01), and anxious (r=0.205; P<0.01) temperaments; conduct problems (r=0.146; P<0.05), hyperactivity-inattention (r=0.133; P<0.05), emotional symptoms (r=0.138; P<0.05), and total difficulties (r=0.160; P<0.01) were found to be correlated with IAS scores. According to these findings, there is a relation between the Internet addiction and affective temperament profiles, especially with anxious temperament. Furthermore, emotional and behavioural problems are more frequent in adolescents who have problematic Internet use.

The mechanisms responsible for exercise-induced reductions in baseline heart rate (HR), known as training bradycardia, remain controversial. Therefore, changes in cardiac autonomic regulation and intrinsic sinoatrial nodal (SAN) rate were evaluated using dogs randomly assigned to either a 10- to 12-wk exercise training ( Ex, n = 15) or an equivalent sedentary period ( Sed, n = 10). Intrinsic HR was revealed by combined autonomic nervous system (ANS) blockade (propranolol + atropine, iv) before and after completion of the study. At the end of the study, SAN function was further evaluated by examining the SAN recovery time (SNRT) following rapid atrial pacing and the response to adenosine in anesthetized animals. As expected, both the response to submaximal exercise and baseline HR significantly ( P < 0.01) decreased, and heart rate variability (HRV; e.g., high-frequency R-R interval variability) significantly ( P < 0.01) increased in the Ex group but did not change in the Sed group. Atropine also induced significantly ( P < 0.01) greater reductions in HRV in the Ex group compared with the Sed group; propranolol elicited similar HR and HRV changes in both groups. In contrast, neither intrinsic HR ( Ex before, 141.2 ± 6.7; Ex after, 146.0 ± 8.0 vs. Sed before, 143.3 ± 11.1; Sed after, 141.0 ± 11.3 beats per minute), the response to adenosine, corrected SNRT, nor atrial fibrosis and atrial fibrillation inducibility differed in the Ex group vs. the Sed group. These data suggest that in a large-animal model, training bradycardia results from an enhanced cardiac parasympathetic regulation and not from changes in intrinsic properties of the SAN.

Background. The Revised International Staging system (R-ISS) is the standard risk stratification model used for newly diagnosed (ND) multiple myeloma (MM) (Palumbo et al. JCO 2015). R-ISS identifies 3 groups of patients (pts) with different PFS and OS. However, 60% of pts are considered as intermediate-risk (R-ISS II), possibly including pts with different risk of progression/death. Recently, 1q copy number alterations (CNAs), which were not included in the R-ISS, proved to be a poor prognostic factor in NDMM pts. The European Myeloma Network (EMN), under the umbrella of the HARMONY project, collected more than 7000 patient data from European clinical trials. The aim of this analysis is to revise the R-ISS risk stratification model, by analyzing the prognostic value of each single baseline risk feature, including 1q CNAs, to improve prognostication in NDMM pts. Methods. Data from 15 European clinical trials enrolling NDMM pts from 2005 to 2014 were collected through EMN and registered in HARMONY platform. HARMONY is a European public-private partnership focusing on hematologic malignancies with unmet medical needs, including MM. OMOP Common Data Model was used to harmonize data. All pts received an immunomodulatory agent (IMiD) and/or a proteasome inhibitor (PI) upfront. In a multivariate Cox regression analysis adjusted for age, sex and therapy, we evaluated the impact of each risk feature on overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). The hazard of death conferred by the most significant variables was used to create an additive risk score. Results. 7077 NDMM pts were registered in the HARMONY platform and included in the analysis. Data were mature with a median follow-up of 75 months; median age was 62 years. The majority of pts were transplant-eligible (65%). 40% of the pts received IMiDs only, 15% PIs only, 46% both drug classes during their first-line treatment. In a multivariate Cox model, ISS (II vs I HR 1.55 p<0.001, III vs I HR 2.02 p<0.001), del(17p) (HR 1.74, p<0.001), LDH (HR 1.65, p<0.001), t(4;14) (HR 1.56, p<0.001) and 1q CNAs (HR 1.45, p<0.001) had the highest impact on OS. ISS (II vs I HR 1.35 p<0.001, III vs I HR 1.53 p<0.001), t(4;14) (HR 1.49, p<0.001), del(17p) (HR 1.41, p<0.001), 1q CNAs (HR 1.37, p<0.001) and LDH (HR 1.33, p<0.001) had the most remarkable impact on PFS. t(14;16) had a significant effect on OS (HR 1.34, p=0.006) but not on PFS (HR 1.15, p=0.13); thus, it was not included in the model. These prognostic variables were simultaneously present in 2227 pts and the most frequent reason of exclusion of the remaining pts was 1q CNAs that was missing in some of the trials. We exploited the OS impact of these risk features in pts with complete data to create an additive scoring system (Table 1). Pts were then stratified into 4 groups: Low [(n=429 (19.3%), score 0)], Low-Intermediate [(n=686 (30.8%), score 0.5-1], Intermediate-High [(n=917 (41.2%), score 1.5-2.5] and High [(n=195 (8.8%), score 3-5]. Each group showed significantly different OS (Figure 1A) and PFS (Figure 1B). Median OS was not reached vs 109.2 vs 68.5 vs 37.9 months and median PFS was 68 vs 45.5 vs 30.2 vs 19.9 months in the above 4 risk groups, respectively. With this new stratification model, R-ISS stage II pts (n=1372) were better distributed into Low-Intermediate (n=517), Intermediate-High (n=811) and High risk (n=44) groups, confirming that this wide group included heterogeneous pts with a different risk of progression and/or death. This new risk stratification maintained its prognostic value in subgroup analysis of transplant-eligible and transplant-ineligible pts and in pts receiving IMiDs, PIs or both. Conclusion. This analysis on a large number of patient data collected thanks to a well-established European collaboration demonstrated that the existing R-ISS stratification model may be improved. This additive scoring system based on the impact of single risk features could be the future risk stratification model for NDMM, so called "R2-ISS". About half of the pts can be classified as Low or Low-Intermediate risk and about half of the pts can be classified as Intermediate-High or High risk, representing an opportunity to design risk-adapted approaches in a meaningful number of pts. Moreover, such additive risk score easily allows the inclusion of new prognostic variables in the future as they continue to emerge. San-Huang-Xie-Xin-Tang (SHXT) is a traditional Chinese medication consisting of three herbs, namelyCoptidis rhizome,Scutellariae radixandRhei rhizome. This study aimed to examine the cardioprotective effects of SHXT in a rat model of acute myocardial apoptosis induced by ischemia/reperfusion (I/R). Vehicle (intravenous saline) or SHXT (intravenous or oral) was administered prior to I/R (occlusion of left coronary artery for 45 min followed by reperfusion for 2 h). In the vehicle group, myocardial I/R caused myocardial infarction with increased plasma cardiac enzymes, severe arrhythmia and mortality. Myocardial apoptosis was induced by I/R as evidenced by DNA ladder and Bcl-2/Bax ratio. In the SHXT group, we found that SHXT significantly reduced plasma levels of cardiac enzymes, arrhythmia scores (from 5 ± 1 to 2 ± 1,P<.01) and mortality rate (from 53 to 0%,P<.01). In addition, pretreatment with intravenous SHXT reduced the infarct size dose-dependently when compared with the vehicle group (10 mg kg−1: 14.0 ± 0.2 versus 44.5 ± 5.0%, and 30 mg kg−1: 6.2 ± 1.2% versus 44.5 ± 5.0%, bothP<.01). Similarly, oral administration of SHXT reduced the infarct size dose-dependently. Furthermore, SHXT markedly decreased the apoptosis induced by I/R with increased Bcl-2/Bax ratio. Finally, we found that SHXT counteracted the I/R-induced downstream signaling, resulting in increased myocardial eNOS expression and plasma nitrite, and decreased activation of ERK1/2, p38 and JNK. These data suggest that SHXT has cardioprotective effects against I/R-induced apoptosis, and that these effects are mediated, at least in part, by eNOS and MAPK pathways.

Can Gio mangrove forest (CGM) is located downstream of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), situated between an estuarine system of Dong Nai - Sai Gon river and a part of Vam Co river. The CGM is the largest restored mangrove forest in Vietnam and the UNESCO’s Mangrove Biosphere Reserve. The CGM has been gradually facing to numeric challenges of global climate change, environmental degradation and socio-economic development for the last decades. To evaluate sediment quality in the CGM, we collected 13 cores to analyze for sediment grain size, organic matter content, and trace element concentration of Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn. Results showed that trace element concentrations ranged from uncontaminated (Cd, Cu, and Zn) to very minor contaminated (Cr, Ni, and Pb). Se determinaron los agentes causales de la marchitez de plantas de ‘Chile de agua’ (Capsicum annuum L.) en Cuilapam de Guerrero, San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya y San Sebastián Abasolo, Oaxaca, México. Se colectaron 120 plantas con síntomas de marchitez y se obtuvieron 95 aislamientos fungosos pertenecientes a los géneros: Alternaria, Fusarium, Macrophomina, Rhizoctonia, y Stemphylium, los cuales se aislaron de 15, 19, 6, 38 y 17 muestras, respectivamente. Además se obtuvieron ocho y siete aislamientos de los oomicetes Phytophthora y Pythium, respectivamente. Los postulados de Koch se cumplieron in vitro e invernadero. En plántulas de 5 d de edad in vitro, Fusarium lateritium, F. oxysporum, Macrophomina sp., Phytophthora capsici, Pythium sp., Rhizoctonia sp. (binucleada) y R. solani causaron estrangulamiento y necrosis del cuello de la raíz (ahogamiento) y muerte de plántulas. En plantas de 45 d de edad inoculadas en invernadero los aislamientos patogénicos fueron P. capsici y R. solani. P. capsici causó marchitez, necrosis de cuello de raíz y tallo sin desprendimiento de epidermis y muerte de planta a 6 d después de la inoculación (ddi). R. solani causó marchitez con recuperación temporal de turgencia, necrosis de cuello de raíz y tallo con desprendimiento de epidermis y estrangulamiento de raíces secundarias a 34 ddi.

Objetivo: Determinar la actividad citotóxica de Physalis peruviana en las líneas colo-205 (cáncer de colon) y K562 (leucemia mieloide crónica). Diseño: Estudio experimental. Lugar: Laboratorios del Departamento de Farmacología de la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos y de la Facultad de Ciencias y Filosofía de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia. Lima, Perú. Materiales: Líneas colo-205, K562 y 3T3 (fibroblastos normales de ratón), extractos etanólicos de hojas y tallos de P. peruviana, y 5-fluorouracilo (5-FU). Intervenciones: Las líneas colo-205, K562 y 3T3 (fibroblastos normales de ratón) fueron expuestas a extractos etanólicos de hojas y tallos de P. peruviana, y 5-fluorouracilo (5-FU) como control positivo. Principales medidas de resultados: Actividad citotóxica de Physalis peruviana en las líneas colo-205 y K562. Resultados: Los CI50 en μg/mL de P. peruviana en hojas y tallos fueron, respectivamente, 1,93 (r=-0,89 p<0,01) y 0,84 (r=-0,91 p<0,01), para colo-205, 2,42 (r=-0,98 p<0,005) y 2,1 (r=-0,98, p<0,005), para K562, 2,67 (r=-0,98 p<0,005) y 4,59 (r=-0,96 p<0,005), para 3T3. Los CI50 para 5-FU fueron: 3,57 (r=-0,96 p<0,005), 15,95 (r=-0,97 p<0,025) y 0,51 (r=-0,88 p=0,01) para colo- 205, K562 y 3T3, respectivamente. Los índices de selectividad de extractos de hojas, tallos y de 5-FU fueron, respectivamente, 1,38, 5,46, 0,14 para colo-205 y 1,10, 2,18, 0,032, para K562. Conclusiones: Los extractos etanólicos de hojas y tallos de P. peruviana son más citotóxicos que el 5-FU, en las líneas colo-205 y K562. Además, son menos citotóxicos en relación al 5-FU en la línea 3T3.

Esta investigación evidenció la influencia del saneamiento básico en la calidad de vida de los habitantes de la comunidad de Antapata, Distrito de San Jerónimo, Provincia de Andahuaylas. En la investigación se aplicaron dos instrumentos: El cuestionario sobre saneamiento básico y el cuestionario sobre calidad de vida, considerándose una población de 120 habitantes y una muestra de estudio de 30 habitantes, con un diseño no experimental, transeccional correlacional causal.Para la prueba del coeficiente de correlación se utilizó la r de rho spearman.
 Resultado: El saneamiento básico influye significativamente (p<0.01) en la calidad de vida de los habitantes de la comunidad de Antapata, Distrito de San Jerónimo, Provincia de Andahuaylas, cuyos valores generales generales son: r= ,749** (Correlación positiva alta) y r2=, 561. Las conclusiones se interpretan en términos aplicados para seguir acrecentando el saneamiento básico como elemento favorecedor de la calidad de vida, coincidiendo con estudios previos y argumentos teóricos.

Resumen
 La investigación tiene como objetivo estudiar la relación entre percepción de riesgo, creencias y normas subjetivas proambientales en los sectores ladrilleros del distrito de San Jerónimo, Cusco. Se aplicó tres instrumentos previamente validados a 205 pobladores de las ladrilleras. Se hizo uso de una metodología cuantitativo, descriptivo – correlacional y transversal. Los resultados evidenciaron la relación entre percepción de riesgo y creencias proambientales indicando correlación positiva directa de r = .43 y un valor de p < 0.000; la relación entre percepción de riesgo y normas subjetivas indican correlación positiva débil (r = .33) y un valor p < 0.001 y la relación entre las creencias proambientales y normas subjetivas indican correlación positiva significativa r =.44 y un valor p < 0.001. El resultado descriptivo muestra un nivel alto de percepción de riego (63.4%), creencias proambientales (66.3%); sin embargo, las nomas subjetivas (56.1%) tienen un nivel medio. Conclusión: los pobladores de las ladrilleras tienen percepciones, creencias y normas subjetivas proambientales con intención de disminuir conductas que deterioren el medio ambiente, pero este resultado no es reflejado en su conducta.

Objetivo: Establecer la relación entre el nivel de bienestar psicológico, y los objetivos de vida de los estudiantes de Enfermería de la Universidad Nacional San Luis Gonzaga de Ica, que cursan estudios durante el ciclo 2014-II. Materiales y Métodos: Estudio, descriptivo, correlacional, transversal, con 132 estudiantes del I al VIII ciclo. Resultados: Existe relación estadística significativa entre: Bienestar Psicológico, con los objetivos de vida, pasar libre (r ,536 p ,032) recibirse de enfermero (r ,662 p, 005), y aprobar el ciclo (r, 764 p, 001). El nivel del bienestar psicológico en promedio, es bueno; 74% normal, 22,5% alto, y 3,5% es bajo. Los objetivos de vida más relevantes son los de corte académico tales como: Su deseo de recibirse o culminar la carrera 91%, aprobar el ciclo 95%, y pasar libres en todas las asignaturas 75%. En cuanto a la satisfacción con la vida, 64% se muestran satisfechos, 23% muy satisfechos, 7% totalmente satisfechos; 4% indecisos, y 2% están muy insatisfechos. Conclusiones: Fortalecer el bienestar psicológico de los estudiantes a través de motivaciones a cargo de los docentes, las tutorías, armonización del clima laboral-académico, y de la asistencia social que debe prever la Universidad para los estudiantes. Se debe fomentar la práctica cotidiana de actividades deportivas y gimnasia, a través del currículo de estudios integral.

The relationships between bacteriological and viral indicators of sewage pollution (TC, FC, E coli, FS, Salmonella, somatic coliphages and F-RNA phages) and environmental variables in coastal water and weather were studied at three beaches in San Sebastian, the Basque Country. The microbiological indicators in bathing water presented high counts associated with the following conditions: early morning, overcast skies, low and high tides, groundswell, intense turbidity and the presence of flotsam (P = <0.05). Coliphage density was significantly related (P = <0.05) to cloud cover, groundswell and flotsam. Correlations between microbiological indicators proved high (0.62 ≤ r ≤ 0.90, P = <0.001). The percentage of Salmonella presented significant (<0.05), albeit low (r < 0.4), correlations with all microbiological parameters. Somatic coliphages also revealed highly significant (0.32 ≤ r ≤ 0.66) correlations (P = <0.001). Those obtained for F-RNA phages, in contrast, were low (r ≤ 0.33). The equations obtained using a multiple regression analysis with a view to predicting microbiological, viral, and Salmonella indicator density demonstrated that environmental variables facilitate the construction of highly significant equations, but that these have low predictive capability (R2 = <0.50).

La presente investigación analizó y determinó el nivel de influencia del clima organizacional en la satisfacción laboral de los Usuarios Internos del Centro de Salud Supte San Jorge, Rupa Rupa, Microrred de la Red de Salud Leoncio Prado, en la que se aplicó una investigación de tipo no experimental, descriptivo, explicativo, transversal de diseño correlacional, la población muestral fue de 30 trabajadores, que ha conformado la unidad de análisis; se aplicó el Instrumento de escala de Likert para Clima Organizacional y un cuestionario de Satisfacción Laboral, un 83.4% de los trabajadores manifestaron insatisfacción con un bajo nivel de clima laboral, mientras que el 16.7% de los trabajadores se sienten satisfechos con un clima laboral favorable. La correlación entre los puntajes globales de clima organizacional y satisfacción laboral fue estadísticamente significativa, tanto en personal asistencial (r = 0,523; p < 0,001) y administrativos (r = 0,468; p < 0,001). Las conclusiones obtenidas fueron que la percepción de un clima organizacional bajo se asocia a un mayor nivel de insatisfacción laboral de los usuarios internos.

The objective of this study was to assess the association between vitamin D and cardiometabolic markers in 2 indigenous communities from similar ethnic backgrounds, but living at different altitudes. A cross-sectional study compared 152 (72 females) indigenous schoolchildren from San Antonio de los Cobres (SAC), 3750 m above sea level, with 175 (86 females) from Chicoana (CH), 1400 m above sea level, mean age 9 years. Anthropometry, blood pressure, lipids, glucose, insulin, and vitamin D were assessed in spring season. The prevalence of children’s overweight/obesity was significantly lower in SAC, 9.2% (13), than in CH, 41.5% (71). There was a significantly higher prevalence of vitamin D deficiency (<20 ng/mL) in SAC (n = 103, 67.7%) than in CH (n = 62, 36.3%). SAC showed an inverse correlation between vitamin D and insulinemia ( r = −0.17, P < .05), whereas CH showed an inverse correlation between vitamin D and systolic blood pressure ( r = −0.19, P < .05), z-BMI (body mass index; r = −0.25, P < .01), triglycerides ( r = −0.15, P < .05), glucose ( r = −0.35, P < .05), and insulinemia ( r = −0.24, P < .01). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that vitamin D (β = −.47; R2 = .21) was significantly associated with SAC location, adjusted for confounding variables. Vitamin D levels were significantly and directly associated with altitude and inversely with metabolic markers, suggesting that populations living at high altitudes are at higher risk for future cardiovascular diseases.

Introducción: Piper aduncum (matico) es una especie utilizada por sus propiedades medicinales en desórdenes gastrointestinales y genitourinarios. Objetivos: Evaluar el efecto antitumoral del aceite esencial de Piper aduncum (matico) in vitro en siete líneas celulares tumorales humanas y determinar la toxicidad oral en ratones. Diseño: Experimental. Institución: Facultad de Medicina, Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Lima, Perú. Material biológico: Líneas celulares tumorales humanas H460, DU-145, ME-180, K562, HT-29, MCF 7, M14, K562; fibroblastos normales de ratón 3T3 y ratones albinos machos Balb/C53. Intervenciones: Las líneas celulares fueron expuestas a cuatro concentraciones del aceite esencial de P. aduncum y 5-fluorouracilo (5-FU). Para la toxicidad oral se utilizó ratones albinos machos Balb C/53 de 40 días post destete, a cinco dosis de tratamiento, evaluándose el número de muertes en cada dosis. Principales medidas de los resultados: Porcentaje de inhibición del crecimiento celular (IC50), dosis letal 50 (DL50). Resultados: El aceite esencial mostró IC50 mayor a 250 ug/mL para las líneas celulares M-14 (r = -0,99; p < 0,01), DU-145 (r = 0,99; p < 0,01), ME-180 (r = -0,99; p < 0,01). Para líneas celulares tumorales H460 (r = -0,99; p < 0,01), MCF-7 (r = -0,99; p < 0,01), K562 (r = -0,99; p < 0,01), HT-29 (r = -0,99; p < 0,01), los niveles de IC50 estuvieron entre 20 ug/mL y 250 ug/mL. DL50 > 2 000 mg /kg. Conclusiones: El aceite esencial de P. aduncum no presentó efecto antitumoral in vitro para las siete líneas celulares tumorales humanas y no fue tóxico.

Se describe Agave gracielae sp. nov. de los estados de Querétaro y San Luis Potosí. Esta especie presenta características que la incluyen en el grupo Striatae Baker. Dentro de éste se relaciona con A. dasylirioides Jacobi & Bouché, A. petrophila García-Mendoza & E. Martínez y A. rzedowskiana P. Carrillo, Vega & R. Delgad. Se desarrolla en afloramientos de rocas calizas dentro de bosque húmedo de pino-encino o bosque mesófilo de montaña.

ABSTRACT Aim The purpose of this study was to evaluate the fracture strength of roots instrumented with the self-adjusting file (SAF; ReDent-Nova, Ra'anana, Israel) and the Reciproc reciprocating file and that were and were not obturated using the warm vertical lateral compaction technique. Materials and methods In total, 75 mandibular premolar teeth were sectioned at or below the cementoenamel junction to obtain roots 13 mm in length. The roots were balanced with respect to buccolingual and mesiodistal diameters and weight. They were distributed into four experimental groups and one control group (n = 15): No instrumentation (group I), instrumentation with SAF files but no obturation (group II), instrumentation with SAF files and obturated with warm vertical lateral compaction (group III), instrumentation with Reciproc File but no obturation (group IV), and instrumentation with Reciproc File and obturated with warm vertical lateral compaction (group V). AH Plus sealer (Dentsply DeTrey, Konstanz, Germany) was used along with gutta-percha points. One week later, a vertical load was applied to the specimen's canal until fracture occurred. Data were statistically analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (p = 0.05). Results The mean fracture load was 312.83 N for group I, 297.35 N for group II, 359.15 N for group III, 231.51 N for group IV, and 275.81 N for group V. Conclusion The fracture resistances exhibited a statistically significant difference between all the groups. Teeth instrumented by SAF exhibited a better fracture resistance. Retomando un concepto de la antropóloga R. Guber (GUBER, 2011, p. 45-46) quien habla de una triple reflexividad del investigador/a (como miembro de una sociedad o cultura; en tanto investigador/a con su perspectiva teórica y en tercer lugar la reflexividad del individuo o grupo que estudia), Mazzini problema­tiza sobre dichos conceptos a raíz de la investigación realizada en el Hospice San Camilo. La noción de reflexividad se comprende mejor con la de implicación, por eso la autora completa la opción hermenéutica hablando de implicación reflexiva, formula acuñada por el antropólogo suizo G. Althabe (ALTHABE-HERNANDEZ, 2005, p. 71-88).

La cautivante obra de J. R. R. Tolkien nos dejó un increíble mundo de fantasías, mitos y poesías, mediante la cual se puede vislumbrar la fascinante belleza de la realidad. Una de esas realidades es la muerte del hombre que sólo se entiende desde la vida vivida, desde la obra incompleta, desde el mandato de destruir el anillo -“mi tesoro”- con las debilidades de la propia naturaleza humana. El análisis hermenéutico a esta concisa historia se complementa con otros trabajos de Tolkien, de su amigo C.S. Lewis, de referentes como San Juan de la Cruz y Dante Alighieri, entre otros. La exégesis de este texto nos permite develar la existencia de un trasfondo de procesos psicológicos que buscan el sentido más profundo de la muerte a través del mito basado en las creencias religiosas. Creencias que están lejos de la comprensión racional y que solo se pueden entender a través de “parábolas”. Nuevamente la esperanza es un elemento que atraviesa y da sentido a la vida iluminando a la razón en aquellos oscuros y recónditos pasajes, donde el hombre moderno se encuentra sin argumentos. El bien y los valores del hombre frente al bien y a los valores de un mundo que ha perdido el norte, pero que, sin embargo, se cree trascendente frente a la efímera vida y obra de “un pobre hombre llamado Niggle” (Tolkien, 1999, p. 65).

Rottboellia cochinchinensis is an annual grass weed species known as itchgrass, or "caminadora" in America´s Spanish speaking countries, and has become a major and troublesome weed in several crops. The application of fluazifop-P-butyl at recommended rates (125 g a.i. ha-1) was observed to be failing to control itchgrass in a field in San José, Upala county, Alajuela province, Costa Rica. Plants from the putative resistant R. cochinchinensis population survived fluazifop-P-butyl when treated with 250 g a.i. ha-1 (2X label rate) at the three- to four-leaf stage under greenhouse conditions. PCR amplification and sequencing of partial carboxyl transferase domain (CT) of the acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase) gene were used to determine the molecular mechanism of resistance. A single non-synonymous point mutation from TGG (susceptible plants) to TGC (putative resistant plants) that leads to a Trp-2027-Cys substitution was found. This Trp-2027-Cys mutation is known to confer resistance to all aryloxyphenoxyproprionate (APP) herbicides to which fluazifop-P-butyl belongs. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of fluazifop-P-butyl resistance and a mutation at position 2027 for a Costa Rican R. cochinchinensis population.

Objetivo. Relacionar un periodo de lactancia materna exclusiva menor a 6 meses con la presencia de hábitos parafuncionales en un grupo de niños y adolescentes venezolanos que acudieron al Servicio de Odontología del Hospital Pediátrico San Juan de Dios de Caracas en el periodo Julio-Octubre de 2016. Materiales y métodos. Estudio epidemiológico de corte transversal, no experimental, de campo y de nivel correlacional, realizado en 183 niños y adolescentes entre 7 y 12 años. Se tomó una muestra no probabilística a conveniencia, con análisis de frecuencias, porcentajes, prueba de significancia estadística chi cuadrado y correlación de Pearson. Resultados. El género femenino ocupó un 56,3%, el promedio de edad fue de 8,4 ±1,29 años. El 100% de la población recibió lactancia materna exclusiva por algún tiempo: en el 53% fue de 0-3 meses y en el 47% de 4-5 meses. 131 pacientes (71.58%) exhibieron uno o más hábitos parafuncionales, de los cuales, 83 pacientes (63,36%) fueron amamantados de forma exclusiva de 0 a 3 meses y 48 pacientes (36,64%) de 4 a 5 meses con una significancia estadística de p=0,000 (p-valor<0,05) y r=25,30%. En esta población, un periodo de lactancia materna exclusiva menor de 6 meses se relacionó con la presencia de succión digital (p=0,015 y r=18,10%), succión de cuerpo extraño (p=0,001 y r=24,70%), deglución atípica (p=0,047 y r=10,80%) y respiración bucal (p=0,000 y r=33,10%). Conclusión. Se destaca la relación entre un periodo menor de 6 meses de lactancia materna exclusiva y la presencia de hábitos parafuncionales en la muestra analizada.

RESUMENLa pretensión de este artículo es ofrecer una serie de reflexiones y valoraciones metodológicas sobre la historia medieval de la Iglesia y la religiosidad partiendo de algunos aspectos destacados de la producción historiográfica reciente y esbozar ciertas propuestas en la misma clave metodológica. Este ensayo reflexiona sobre temas, enfoques y perspectivas, sobre los niveles de estudio de lo religioso y sobre la integración de la historia de la Iglesia y la historia social, y aboga por una historiasocial de la Iglesia.PALABRAS CLAVE: Historia Medieval, Historia de la Iglesia y la vida religiosa en la Edad Media, Metodología histórica, Liturgia y sociedad, Tendencias historiográficas.ABSTRACTThe aim of this article is to offer a series of reflections and methodological evaluations on the medieval history of the Church and religiosity based on some outstanding aspects of recent historiographical production, and to outline certain proposals in the same methodological vein. Nineteen geographical records for species of Odonata in 2 provinces of Argentina are documented. We provided records for 9 newly recorded species for Córdoba: Lestes spatula Fraser, 1946, Andinagrion peterseni (Ris, 1908), Argentagrion ambiguum (Ris, 1904), Erythemis attala (Selys in Sagra, 1857), Erythemis plebeja (Burmeister, 1839), Erythrodiplax media Borror, 1942, Micrathyria longifasciata Calvert, 1909, Micrathyria hypodidyma Calvert, 1906, and Tramea cophysa Hagen, 1867. In San Luis, we provided records for 10 newly recorded species: Hetaerina rosea Selys, 1853, Acanthagrion lancea Selys, 1876, Ischnura fluviatilis Selys, 1876, Oxyagrion rubidium (Rambur, 1842), Castoraeschna decurvata Dunkle & Cook, 1984, Rhionaeschna pallipes (Fraser, 1947), Phyllocycla argentina (Hagen in Selys, 1878), Erythrodiplax corallina (Brauer, 1865), Perithemis mooma Kirby, 1889, and Planiplax erythropyga (Karsch, 1891). Among these records, we extend the geographic distribution of A. peterseni and R. pallipes, which are endemic to Argentina and recorded P. erythropyga for the first time in Chaco phytogeographic province.

El objetivo de este estudio fue analizar la prevalencia de sobrepeso, obesidad, niveles de actividad física y autoestima de la población escolar de San Pedro Sula. La muestra fue de 825 escolares con edades entre 9-13 años, los cuales fueron divididos en 416 mujeres y 409 hombres. Se realizaron mediciones del IMC (Kg/H^2), nivel de actividad física (PAQ-C) y autoestima (LAWSEQ). Se realizó un análisis factorial (ANOVA) para observar diferencias entre grupos y la correlación de Pearson para el estudio de relación de variables con intervalos de confianza del 95 %. Se encontró que el 79.8 % se encuentra en un estado de peso saludable; un 14.8 % en sobrepeso y obesidad y un 5.3 % en desnutrición, un nivel de actividad física moderado predomina en la mayoría de escolares, un nivel de autoestima bajo en 46.9 % y autoestima promedio de 50.5 %; también se mostró que el nivel de actividad física tiene correlación alta positiva con el sexo (r= 0.74 p= 0.02), siendo mayor en los escolares hombres que en las mujeres, también la actividad física tiene correlación positiva muy alta (r=0.81; p=0.001) con la autoestima. Nuestras conclusiones indican que se muestra una mayor práctica de actividad física por los escolares hombres de Honduras que por parte de las mujeres. Además, se encontró que un mayor nivel de realización de actividad física podría estar asociado a una mejor autoestima en los niños.

Resumen: Uno de los focos de investigación más relevantes en lo que se refiere a materia educativa, lo contribuyen las estrategias de aprendizaje, que sirven como herramientas para facilitar la adquisición, desarrollo y puesta en marcha de procesos de adquisición de contenidos, haciendo posible un aprendizaje eficaz.
 La investigación tuvo como problema general: ¿Qué relación existe entre las estrategias metacognitivas y la comprensión lectora en los alumnos del Cuarto Grado de Educación Primaria de la Institución Educativa “Inka Pachacútec” N° 6037 del Distrito de San Juan de Miraflores UGEL 01 - Lima 2018?
 
 La investigación tuvo como objetivo determinar si existe relación entre las estrategias metacognitivas y los niveles de comprensión lectora en alumnos con dificultades en el área de comunicación integral del 4º grado de primaria de la Institución Educativa “Inka Pachacútec” N° 6037 del Distrito de San Juan de Miraflores UGEL 01. Lima 2018. Es una investigación científica con enfoque cuantitativo, con diseño descriptivo correlacional. Los instrumentos de recolección de datos fueron un inventario de estrategias metacognitivas y la prueba de comprensión lectora. La población de estudio fueron 118 estudiantes de la Institución Educativa “Inka Pachacútec” N° 6037 del Distrito de San Juan de Miraflores UGEL 01. Lima 2018. La muestra representativa fue 118 estudiantes del área de comunicación integral del 4º A, 4º B, 4º C y 4º D. El 15.3 % tiene un nivel de metacognición deficiente, el 39.8 bajo, 39.8% regular y el 5.1 % alto. El 4,2% es deficiente en los Niveles de Comprensión Lectora, 46,6% bajo, 43,2% regular mientras que un 5,9% alto.
 
 Se llegó a la siguiente conclusión: Las estrategias metacognitivas no se relacionan con los niveles de comprensión lectora, en los alumnos con dificultades en el área de comunicación integral del 4º grado de primaria de la Institución Educativa “Inka Pachacútec n° 6037 del Distrito de San Juan de Miraflores, 2018 con un Rho de Spearman r=0,706 y una significancia p=0 (p<0.05) teniendo un 70,6% siendo alto.
 Se recomienda capacitar a los docentes de las diferentes especialidades sobre programas de estrategias metacognitivas e implementar un programa de estrategias metacognitivas aplicada a la comprensión lectora para los alumnos con dificultades en el área de comunicación en primaria.

 Introducción: Hoy en día, como desde hace algunos años, continúa siendo evidente en las instituciones educativas las deficiencias en la lectura que presenta un gran número de estudiantes. Se sabe que muchos de ellos no alcanzan un nivel de comprensión que les permita, entre otras cosas, analizar la estructura del texto, lograr una interpretación global del mismo, realizar inferencias justificadas de información no prevista, asumir posición argumentada frente al contenido o establecer relaciones entre el texto y otros textos o con situaciones de la realidad. Esto es, sin lugar a dudas, uno de los graves problemas de la educación en todo el mundo. 
 
 Entre las múltiples perspectivas teóricas desde las cuales se han adelantado estos trabajos se destaca la de Mayor, Suengas y González (1995), en la cual se decidió basar este estudio, pues ellos plantean que en el estudio de la actividad metacognitiva deben tenerse en cuenta los aspectos de conciencia y control.
 
 En la prueba PISA (2000), en la cual la lectura fue el área de mayor énfasis, se verificó el bajo nivel de compresión lectora en que se encuentra la mayor parte de los escolares de nuestro país comparándolos con el resto de los 41 países participantes (ocupamos último lugar). El año 2013 se publicaron los resultados de la prueba 2009 y aunque tenemos a favor un aumento de 43 puntos en el promedio (370), aún falta mucho camino por recorrer en este aspecto. 
 
 Sabemos que la lectura es un proceso encaminado a conseguir significados, y el desarrollo de este proceso actualmente es cada vez más investigado por la neurociencia y la neuropsicología, que se encargan de estudiar cómo el organismo procesa información.
 
 Dentro de este enfoque se desarrollan nuevas propuestas para enseñar y facilitar aprendizajes eficientes, lo que se puede lograr trabajando estrategias metacognitivas, que favorecen la comprensión lectora así como otros procesos.
 
 Se hace necesario entonces investigar sobre los distintos factores que pueden contribuir a mejorar la comprensión lectora, tratando de enfocarse en un punto que permita al alumno lograr la autonomía en el proceso.
 
 Gonzales (1996) analiza etimológicamente el término metacognición y afirma que hace referencia a lo que viene después de, o acompaña a la cognición. Este neologismo comenzó a utilizarse a partir de los estudios que Tulving y Madigan citado por Gutiérrez, (2005) dan inicio el uso de este neologismo, que etimológicamente hace referencia a lo que viene después de, o acompaña a la cognición; a partir de sus estudios concluyeron que una de las características del ser humano es tener memoria de su propia memoria, es decir, poseer la capacidad de someter a escrutinio sus propios procesos memorísticos.
 
 Pacheco (2012) cita a Flavell (1971) quien menciona que: La metacognición como proceso mental, se encuentran diversos énfasis que han ido evolucionando, en la medida del avance en las investigaciones y aplicaciones en el área. Inicialmente surge de los estudios realizados acerca de los procesos de memoria, donde se le atribuye a él dicho concepto, que hoy trasciende a la psicología cognitiva para ser abordada también desde la pedagogía, con la intencionalidad de desarrollar "habilidades metacognitivas" para el aprendizaje (pp.332-340).
 
 Defior, (1996) encontró lo siguiente: “Leer consiste en descifrar el código de la letra impresa para que ésta tenga significado y, como consecuencia, se produzca una comprensión del texto”. Dicho de otro modo, leer es un esfuerzo en busca de significado, es una construcción activa del sujeto mediante el uso de todo tipo de claves y estrategias (Cuando se lee un texto se construye una representación de su significado guiado por las características del mismo -letras y palabras- y ello conduce a la comprensión.
 
 Valles (1998) menciona la siguiente: Cuando se da el desajuste en la comprensión lectora, se manifiesta un bloqueo entre la capacidad del lector y las demandas de la comprensión, esto produce un conflicto que se manifiesta en forma de dificultades de compresión lectora.
 
 Objetivo General
 Determinar si las estrategias metacognitivas se relacionan con los niveles de comprensión lectora en alumnos de 4º grado de primaria de la Institución Educativa “Inka Pachacútec” N° 6037 del Distrito de San Juan de Miraflores UGEL 01-Lima 2018.
 
 Objetivos Específicos
 
 Determinar la relación que existe entre las estrategias metacognitivas y el nivel literal de la comprensión lectora en alumnos 4º grado de primaria de la Institución Educativa “Inka Pachacútec” N° 6037 del Distrito de San Juan de Miraflores UGEL 01-Lima 2018.
 Establecer la relación entre las estrategias metacognitivas y el nivel inferencial de la comprensión lectora en alumnos 4º grado de primaria de la Institución Educativa “Inka Pachacútec” N° 6037 del Distrito de San Juan de Miraflores UGEL 01-Lima 2018.
 Identificar la relación que existe entre las estrategias metacognitivas y el nivel crítico de la comprensión lectora en alumnos 4º grado de primaria de la Institución Educativa “Inka Pachacútec” N° 6037 del Distrito de San Juan de Miraflores UGEL 01-Lima 2018.
 
 
 Justificación Legal: la investigación se justifica conforme a lo establecido en la constitución política del Perú, título I: De la Persona y la Sociedad, Capítulo II: De los Derechos Sociales y económicos, Art. 18, en la cual el estado garantiza la investigación científica y tecnológica de la educación universitaria, como fin de la formación. Además de la ley universitaria Nº 23733, la Ley General de Educación Nº 28044 y la Ley del profesorado Nº 24029.
 
 Justificación Teórica: es relevante, porque la manipulación de las variables permitirá lograr el mejoramiento de la calidad de la educación, y en particular en el desarrollo del pensamiento, la creatividad y la capacidad de la comprensión lectora en los niños de la Institución Educativa Inka Pachacútec N° 6037 de San Juan de Miraflores, superando las deficiencias propias del mecanicismo y los esquemas tradicionales de la lectura, sin ninguna relación con su contexto.
 
 Justificación Epistemológica: los resultados de esta investigación contribuyen de manera sustancial al incremento del conocimiento de los docentes en cuanto al dominio de las estrategias metacognitivas y la comprensión lectora tendiente a desarrollar las habilidades perceptivas y comunicativas de los futuros lectores.
 
 Tipificación de investigación
 Para la selección del tipo de investigación se ha utilizado como base Hernández et al. (2003) titulado “Metodología de Investigación”. Según los autores el diseño adecuado para este estudio es de una investigación no experimental, en tanto no es posible la manipulación de las variables independientes, por lo que tenemos que observar los fenómenos tal y como se dan en su contexto natural para después analizarlos. Es decir, a 
 el proceso de elaborar creativamente un significado apelando a la información o ideas relevantes del texto, relacionándolos con las ideas e informaciones que el estudiante o lector tiene almacenada en su mente (es decir con los conocimientos previos o esquema de conocimiento. Castillo (2016) en su tesis dio los resultados obtenidos después del procesamiento y análisis de los datos demuestran que existe relación entre los estilos de aprendizaje y las estrategias metacognitivas en el aprendizaje de una universidad del norte chico pero vimos lo puesto que hubo un Rho de Spearman r=0,706 y una significancia p=0 (p<0.05) por lo que afirmamos que las estrategias metacognitivas se relaciona con los niveles de comprensión lectora en alumnos del 4º de la Institución Educativa “Inka Pachacútec” N° 6037 del Distrito de San Juan de Miraflores – UGEL 01-Lima 2018.
 
 Flores Hurtado, Gladys Margarita (2008) indica que los alumnos a pesar de haber obtenido un promedio elevado en la prueba del proceso semántica y un promedio menor en la prueba de comprensión lectora, por lo tanto no existe relación entre el proceso semántico y la comprensión lectora. Hernández (2015) refiere que el tipo de comprensión en la que más destacan, los estudiantes, es la literal (z=3.32), según Cuevas (2014) demuestra que los alumnos del grupo experimental alcanzaron niveles significativamente superiores en la habilidad de extraer información literal de un texto y en la habilidad de comprensión global del mismo. Además, en la autorregulación evidenciaron avances en el uso de estrategias metacognitivas en la comprensión lectora. , vimos también en el presente estudio con un Rho de Spearman r=0,727 y una significancia p=0 (p<0.05) por lo que afirmamos que las estrategias metacognitivas se relaciona con los nivel literal en alumnos del 4º de la Institución Educativa “Inka Pachacútec” N° 6037 del Distrito de San Juan de Miraflores – UGEL 01-Lima 2018.
 
 El nivel inferencial proporciona al lector una con más profunda y amplia de las ideas que está leyendo y exige una atribución de significados relacionándolos con las experiencias personales y el conocimiento previo que posee el lector sobre el texto. Guerrero (2017) determinándose que las estrategias metacognitivas para la comprensión lectora influyen significativamente a nivel inferencial en textos argumentativos con un Rho de Spearman r=0,585 y una significancia p=0 (p<0.05) por lo que afirmamos que las estrategias metacognitivas se relaciona con los nivel inferencial en alumnos del 4º de la Institución Educativa “Inka Pachacútec” N° 6037 del Distrito de San Juan de Miraflores – UGEL 01-Lima 2018.
 Según Miranda, 1988: “Es un nivel más elevado de conceptualización ya que supone haber superado los niveles anteriores de comprensión literal y de comprensión interpretativa, llegándose a un grado de dominio lector caracterizado por emitir juicios personales acerca del texto, valorando la relevancia o irrelevancia del mismo. Se discriminan los hechos de las opiniones y se integra la lectura en las experiencias propias del lector.” Hernández (2015) siendo el menos desarrollado la comprensión criterial (z = 2.49) con un Rho de Spearman r=0,548 y una significancia p=0 (p<0.05) por lo que afirmamos que las estrategias metacognitivas se relaciona con los nivel crítico en alumnos del 4º de la Institución Educativa “Inka Pachacútec” N° 6037 del Distrito de San Juan de Miraflores – UGEL 01-Lima 2018.
 
 Conclusiones 
 Las estrategias metacognitivas no se relacionan con los niveles de comprensión lectora, en los alumnos con dificultades en el área de comunicación integral del 4º grado de primaria de la Institución Educativa “Inka Pachacútec n° 6037 del Distrito de San Juan de Miraflores, 2018 con un Rho de Spearman r=0,706 y una significancia p=0 (p<0.05) teniendo un 70,6% siendo alto.
 
 Las estrategias metacognitivas no se relacionan con el nivel literal de la comprensión lectora, en los alumnos con dificultades en el área de comunicación integral del 4º grado de primaria de la Institución Educativa “Inka Pachacútec n° 6037 del Distrito de San Juan de Miraflores, 2018 con un Rho de Spearman r=0,727 y una significancia p=0 (p<0.05) teniendo un 72,7% siendo alto.
 
 Las estrategias metacognitivas no se relacionan con el nivel inferencial de la comprensión lectora, en los alumnos con dificultades en el área de comunicación integral del 4º grado de primaria de la Institución Educativa “Inka Pachacútec n° 6037 del Distrito de San Juan de Miraflores, 2018 con un Rho de Spearman r=0,585 y una significancia p=0 (p<0.05) teniendo un 58,5% siendo alto.
 
 Las estrategias metacognitivas no se relacionan con el nivel criterial de la comprensión lectora, en los alumnos con dificultades en el área de comunicación integral del 4º grado de primaria de la Institución Educativa “Inka Pachacútec n° 6037 del Distrito de San Juan de Miraflores, 2018 con un Rho de Spearman r=0,548 y una significancia p=0 (p<0.05) teniendo un 54,8% siendo alto.
 
 Recomendaciones
 Implementar un programa de estrategias metacognitivas aplicada a la comprensión lectora para los alumnos en los alumnos con dificultades en el área de comunicación en primaria en alumnos del 4º de la Institución Educativa “Inka Pachacútec” N° 6037 del Distrito de San Juan de Miraflores – UGEL 01-Lima 2018.
 
 Capacitar a los docentes de las diferentes especialidades sobre programas de estrategias metacognitivas relacionado con el nivel literal en alumnos con dificultades en el área de comunicación integral en alumnos del 4º de la Institución Educativa “Inka Pachacútec” N° 6037 del Distrito de San Juan de Miraflores – UGEL 01-Lima 2018.
 
 Elaborar programas extracurriculares para promover el desarrollo de la atención sostenida en las aulas entre la metacognición y nivel inferencial en alumnos del 4º de la Institución Educativa “Inka Pachacútec” N° 6037 del Distrito de San Juan de Miraflores – UGEL 01-Lima 2018.
 
 Elaborar programas de orientación en el uso de tecnología de la información y el uso de multitareas cotidianas para tener una mayor relación entre la metacognición y el nivel crítico en alumnos del 4º de la Institución Educativa “Inka Pachacútec” N° 6037 del Distrito de San Juan de Miraflores – UGEL 01-Lima 2018.

Background/Aims: Neighborhood walkability is associated with indicators of health in the general population. We explored the association between neighborhood walkability and daily steps in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Methods: We measured daily steps over 5 weeks using Fitbit Flex (Fitbit, San Francisco, CA, USA) and retrieved Walk Score® (WS) data by patient’s home ZIP code (www.walkscore.com; 0 = poorest walkability; 100 = greatest walkability). Results: HD patients took a mean of 6,393 ± 3,550 steps/day (n = 46). Median WS of the neighborhood where they resided was 28. Patients in an above-median WS (n = 27) neighborhood took significantly more daily steps compared to those (n = 19) in a below-median WS neighborhood (7,514 ± 3,900 vs. 4,800 ± 2,228 steps/day; p < 0.001, t test). Daily steps and WS were directly correlated (R = 0.425; p = 0.0032, parametric test; R = 0.359, p = 0.0143, non-parametric test). Conclusion: This is the first study conducted among HD patients to indicate a direct relationship between neighborhood walkability and the actual steps taken. These results should be considered when designing initiatives to increase and improvise exercise routines in HD populations.

In May, 1988, trials were Initiated to determine optimum critical levels for control of Empoasca spp, based on percentage of nymph Infested leaves. The efficiency of this sampling comparing It to absolute values obtained from Insect traps was also evaluated. A randomized complete block design was employed at two locations with three replications and five treatments per location. Insecticides were applied when leaves had infestation percentages of 0, 15, 30 and 45 %. An added check was also included without insecticide applications. To each treatment, “dimetoato” was applied to determine the critical level. Plot sizes were 49 in’ while harvest areas were 4 m2 taken from the center of each plot. The combined analysis of variance Indicated significant differences between yield amongst the applied treatments (P<0.01). Yield increases of 0 and 5% (1.1 and 1.2 t ha-1, respectively) were significantly higher than the check (0.8 t/ha) for treatments 30 and 45% defined above. The correlation between porcentage of infested leaves and number of nymphs determined from the traps was significant (r = 0.78) at Corral Falso and (r = 0.56) at San Jeronimo. The treatment with 15 % infested leaves provided the largest net benefits. The marginal rate of return for this critical level was 5 and 20% for San Jeronimo and Corral Falso respectively.

Background and Purpose: Young adults who are 18 to 25 years old have the highest prevalence of depression (10.9%). Depression is a risk factor for suicide. Mental health literacy (MHL) is a key component in assessing recognition and help-seeking for depression with suicidal ideation. This study investigated MHL as it relates to help-seeking for depression with suicidal ideation. Methods: A crosssectional survey design was used. Participants were young adults (n= 430, ages 18 to 24 years old) who lived, worked, and/or attended school in San Francisco, California.
