Abstract:
A new species of pinguipedid fish, Parapercis binotata, is described from the Solomon Islands on the basis of six adult specimens, 46.5–56.5.5 mm SL. The new taxon belongs to the Parapercis cylindrica complex, which contains five other western Pacific Ocean species: P. australis, P. cylindrica, P. haackei, P. lineopunctata, and P. snyderi. It is most similar to P. lineopunctata from the East Indian Archipelago, but adult males are clearly distinguished by the presence of two short black bands, one on the cheek and another on the lower pectoral fin. Although lacking these markings, females diff

Five new species of sandperch (Pinguipedidae: Parapercis) from southeast Asia and northwest Australia are described. Parapercis soliorta sp. nov., known from a single specimen acquired from the Iloilo Central Market, taken off Iloilo, Panay Island, Philippines, is readily distinguished by a unique colour pattern including a series of nine brilliant yellow-ringed red spots along the body and caudal fin. Parapercis rubricaudalis sp. nov. is described from 15 specimens trawled between Dampier and Cape Leveque, Western Australia in 70–119 m and a single specimen taken by aquarium fish collectors o

AbstractTwo species of Chondracanthidae (Copepoda, Poecilostomatoida) parasitic on sandperches of the genus Parapercis Bleeker, 1863 from Taiwan are reported. They are ectoparasites attaching to the host's gill filaments. The species of parasites and their hosts are: Prochondracanthopsis quadricornutus Shiino, 1960 on Parapercis sexfasciata (Temminck & Schlegel, 1843), P. multifasciata Döderlein, 1884, and an unidentified species of Parapercis; and Parapercicola formosana n. gen., n. sp. on P. multifasciata. Parasite communities of these fish were composed basically of endoparasites, mainly digenean and cestodes species, with low prevalence and abundance but having high parasite species richness values (at the component community level). Among these values, that found for P. numida is the highest so far recorded for marine fishes from th

Abstract:
AbstractNeobrachiella spinicephala (Ringuelet, 1945) (Copepoda, Siphonostomatoida, Lernaeopodidae) is redescribed based on newly collected material from the Brazilian sandperch, Pinguipes brasilianus Cuvier, 1829, (the type host) from Mar del Plata, Argentina (the type locality). A description of the male is given for the first time. Although some differences were observed between the original description and the specimens examined in this study, these differences do not warrant a change in the taxonomic status of this species. Indeed, the generic status of the species is confirmed, especially
