Abstract:
Sandwich Generation must treat two generations simultaneously and undoubtedly, having an impact on health in the sandwich generation, the previous generation, and the following generations. This study used IFLS data in 2007 and 2014 because IFLS provides longitudinal data that can see the relationship between sandwich generation households and children’s health status with the Multinomial Logistics Regression method. The results showed that the BMI of non-sandwich generation children was higher than the group of sandwich generation children and was statistically significant, so it was concluded that there were differences in the average BMI between groups of sandwich generation children and non-sandwich generation children. BMR of sandwich generation children is lower than the group of not sandwich generation children and statistically significant, so with these results, it can be concluded that there is a difference in the average BMR between groups of sandwich generation children and non-sandwich generation children. The status of sandwich generation where relative to non-sandwich generation is only significant if the child is obese. Meanwhile, the status of the sandwich generation, which is relative to non-sandwich generation, significantly affects BMR for children in both the below-average BMR category and above-average BMR category for the overall sample.

Abstract:
The sandwich generation in Bali, especially Gianyar, which is still thick with its culture, has a dual role in the family, as caregivers for children and parents, breadwinners, and is actively involved in community activities. This study aims to analyze the influence of cultural norms in moderating the effect of family roles and social support on the happiness of the sandwich generation. The samples were 203 generations of sandwiches obtained through accidental sampling techniques and analyzed using Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA). The results showed that cultural norms, social support, and family roles significantly influence the happiness of the sandwich generation. Meanwhile, cultural norms were not variables that moderate the effect of family roles and social support on the happiness of the sandwich generation. This study proposed two central policies to break the sandwich generation chain in Gianyar Regency: socializing the importance of financial literacy so that in the future, a person does not depend on his child for life and forming a parent empowerment group to reduce the burden of the sandwich generation.JEL Classification: M14, J12, I31, L31How to Cite:Yuniari, N. Abstract:
This study aims to determine the effect of Muslim sandwich generation philanthropic technology on poverty. One of the problems that is still being faced by the Indonesian state is the problem of poverty. Poverty alleviation efforts are carried out to realize the ideals of the nation, namely, the creation of a just and prosperous society. The sandwich generation has the hope of living a just and prosperous life. The sandwich generation is like a slice of a sandwich. Those who have reached adulthood are "sandwiched" between responsibilities for children and their parents who have entered old age to care for, provide for, and meet the needs of clothing, food, and shelter. Becoming the sandwich generation may not be everyone's dream. The responsibility that is carried is not easy because you have to support two generations at once. Sandwich situations require an open attitude among family members to help ensure that money is managed wisely, effectively, and cooperatively. In addition to such a position, the Muslim sandwich generation must be aware that there are still other people's rights in their wealth. This means that this generation must issue obligations such as zakat, infaq, alms, and endowments. According to Marts (2013), this generation is very dependent on technological sophistication because it is required to have fast performance, so it tends to be more practical. This type of research is a quantitative research using the SEM (structural equation modeling) method. The research sample is the sandwich generation of Muslims in Indonesia with a probability sampling technique. This study's results indicate the influence of philanthropic technology used by the Muslim sandwich generation on poverty reduction. In addition, this research is useful for the government and formal charitable institutions to reduce poverty. However, this will be realized if the government protects formal charitable institutions thereby increasing philanthropic behavior by the Muslim sandwich generation. The government must also take a role, namely to regulate the distribution of benevolent funds to areas in need. For example, the centralization of benevolence funds to create a fair distribution. Sandwich generation competence using financial planning technology needs to be developed by the government so that it can build a mindset of people who are aware of managing finances. This can be done by increasing the number of charitable institutions engaged in financial planning technology. Charitable institutions also have a role, namely they must be able to maintain public trust and cooperate with other formal charitable institutions. Every formal charitable institution must be able to distribute all benevolent funds proportionally.

Abstract:
Abstract Sandwich generation caregivers are generally those who care for both a child and an older adult. Baby Boomer and Generation X belong to this age cohort. Using data from the 2015-2018 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System Caregiver Module, we compared the prevalence and characteristics of sandwich caregivers across these two generations. Data represent adults from 44 jurisdictions. We categorized caregivers into generations using their age at the time of the survey (N=34,777). Sandwich caregivers were classified as those who lived with a child (≤18 years) and provided care/assistance to a parent/grandparent with a long-term illness/disability during the past 30 days. Prevalence ratios (PR) from log-binomial regression models that included generation, sandwich caregiver status, sex, and race/ethnicity were used to compare weighted estimates. Six percent of Baby Boomers and 31% of Generation X were sandwich caregivers (p<0.001). In adjusted models, sandwich caregivers had a lower prevalence of any chronic health condition (PR=0.77, p=0.01) and fair/poor health (PR=0.87, p=0.003) than other caregivers, but similar frequent mental and physical distress prevalence. Baby Boomer caregivers were more likely to report a chronic health condition, fair/poor health, and frequent physical distress than their Generation X counterparts, but less likely to report frequent mental distress. Sandwich caregivers in these generations appear to be in better health than other caregivers. Nonetheless, it is critical to support the needs of sandwich caregivers as they age, given their important role in meeting the needs of both children and older adults and the additional challenges created by the pandemic.

Abstract:
Indonesia is facing the phenomenon of the sandwich generation, which plays a dual role in the financial affairs of three generations at once. Data from the March 2022 National Socio-Economic Survey shows that 8.4 million Indonesians (62.71%) belong to the sandwich generation. The movie "First, Second, and Third Love" reflects this reality, directed by Gina S. Noer based on a true story. This study applies Charles Sanders Peirce's Semiotic method to analyze triadic signs. The research shows that individuals give meaning to societal experiences by using the Social Reality Construction Theory. The movie becomes a representation of social reality, helping to understand the complexity of the sandwich generation's life in the context of Indonesian families. To break the chain of the sandwich generation that can damage the next generation, priority awareness, implementation of life limit setting, role as an entrepreneur, and increased educational awareness are needed to change the toxic culture.

Abstract:
The measure of welfare is not only about material prosperity but also about happiness. The sandwich generation has a dual role to play in influencing their happiness. On the other hand, social capital also affects happiness. There are several mechanisms by which social capital affects happiness, including health conditions, household income, and education. This study aims to analyze specifically how social capital influences the happiness of the sandwich generation in Indonesia. This study uses SPTK 2017 data, analyzing the head of household or partner of the sandwich generation and non-sandwich generation. Using OLS estimation, the study found that the happiness index in the sandwich and non-sandwich generations are not significantly different. However, social capital generally has a significant effect on happiness. In addition, health conditions were found to be a variable that becomes a mechanism for how social capital affects happiness. Increasing the value of social capital in the poor health sandwich generation will be more beneficial in increasing their happiness. Meanwhile, household income and education were not found to be mechanisms for social capital.

Abstract:
Nowadays, the term millennial has been heard very often. Millennials or Generation Y are the generation born in the 1980s - early 2000s. At this time, the millennial generation has an age range of 25-40 years and is in the position of the sandwich generation. The sandwich generation itself is the people who are squeezed between the demands of two generations at once, namely parents and children plus the demands of their own life. The sandwich generation now carries a fairly heavy burden considering their lifetimes that have passed the generational transition line which is quite extreme. This study aims: 1) To know the definition of millennials and the sandwich generation in depth. 2) Studying more about the role of millennials who are also the sandwich generation. 3) Knowing the adaptation pattern of the millennial generation and the sandwich generation in the industrial 4.0 era. And this writing uses a descriptive qualitative research methodology by using many data variables that are appropriate in order to produce directed and accountable writing. As technology is developing, everything is moving fast. Likewise, the current generation must adapt to conditions that are far different from the early life they lived. So that this significant difference affects many social aspects in terms of the intergenerational relationship which then gives birth to a mindset and parenting pattern that is qualified by the times.

Abstract:

As the Baby Boomers age, the question of how to care for the burgeoning frail-elderly population grows more pressing. Sandwich-generation adult children are often called upon to make long-term care choices for their frail-elderly parents. This study used a Likert-type survey to determine if any of the six options for long-term care – no care, skilled nursing facilities, group homes, assisted living residences, home health care, and living at home with the sandwich-generation adult child – led to the highest degree of satisfaction for the sandwich-generation adult child who made the long-term care decision. The results indicated that having the frail-elderly parent live with the sandwichgeneration adult child brought the highest level of satisfaction.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Work-family conflict (WFC) is a stressor that can cause negative consequences, including deleterious effects on an individual's health and well-being. This study examined this relationship through the lens of the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) Model. This study expanded on two recent applicable studies to examine role quality as a moderator of the WFC-well-being relationship. Well-being was operationalized by three constructs: overall health, depression, and life satisfaction. Hierarchical regression analyses were used to test the hypotheses that a negative relationship existed between WFC and the three well-being outcomes over time, and that this negative relationship between WFC and well-being could be reduced when role quality is high, compared to when role quality is low. These hypotheses were tested using a sample of 234 working, married individuals caring for both children and parents. The use of this sample allowed examination of four types of role quality as potential moderators: job, spousal, child-care and parent-care. Results showed that WFC had a significant and positive relationship with depression over time. Two of the proposed moderators, spousal role quality and child-care role quality, significantly buffered the effects of work-to-family conflict on life satisfaction. Theoretical and practical implications of the findings are discussed.

"Bio-Inspired Design of Next Generation Honeycomb Sandwich Panel Cores." Master's thesis, 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/2286/R.I.57296.

Full text
Abstract:
abstract: Honeycomb sandwich panels have been used in structural applications for several decades in various industries. While these panels are lightweight and rigid, their design has not evolved much due to constraints imposed by available manufacturing processes and remain primarily two-dimensional extrusions sandwiched between facings. With the growth in Additive Manufacturing, more complex geometries can now be produced, and advanced design techniques can be implemented into end use parts to obtain further reductions in weight, as well as enable greater multi-functionality. The question therefore is: how best to revisit the design of these honeycomb panels to obtain these benefits? In this work, a Bio-Inspired Design approach was taken to answer this question, primarily since the hexagonal lattice is so commonly found in wasp and bee nests, including the well-known bee’s honeycomb that inspired these panel designs to begin with. Whereas prior honeycomb panel design has primarily focused on the hexagonal shape of the unit cell, in this work we examine the relationship between the various parameters constituting the hexagonal cell itself, specifically the wall thickness and the corner radius, and also examine out-of-plane features that have not been previously translated into panel design. This work reports findings from a study of insect nests across 70 species using 2D and 3D measurements with optical microscopy and X-ray tomography, respectively. Data from these biological nests were used to identify design parameters of interest, which were then translated into design principles. These design principles were implemented in the design of honeycomb panels manufactured with the Selective Laser Sintering process and subjected to experimental testing to study their effects on the mechanical behavior of these panels.

Abstract:
Light weight honeycomb structures lend themselves to important applications in aerospace. These range from aerodynamic and structural components such as wing edges, flaps, rotor blades and engine cowlings, to aircraft interior structures such as overhead luggage bins, compartment liners, bulkheads and the monument structures found in galleys and lavatory areas. Often the honeycomb is formed into a composite ply sandwich with fiberglass face sheets bonded to the honeycomb core. These panels are cut to shape using CNC routers and specially designed cutting tools. However, the quality of the cuts generated even with these special tools leaves much to be desired. The low stiffness of the structure leads to imperfections such as fraying of the cut face sheet edges and the generation of flags along the cut honeycomb edge. These impact the ease of assembly and often require manually intensive reworking to mitigate. The cutting of honeycomb structures and sandwich panels is challenging due to low stiffness, anisotropic mechanical properties and a high proportion of interrupted cutting due to the air voids that are present. The cutting mechanics are not well understood at this time. This paper presents findings from the study of cutting of honeycomb sandwich panels using high speed videography and correlates these with results of geometric modeling of the engagement between the cutter and workpiece. The study includes the impact of the trajectory of the tool path through the cell structures on the generation of flagging. It also reports on the effects of two different cutting tool geometries and the introduction of a lead angle on the size and structure of the flags generated. These findings present the case for a research regime similar to the one completed for solid metals, into modeling the mechanics behind machining honeycomb structures. This will help manufacturers using these materials to make better choices in the tools, cutting parameters and machining strategies that they employ in their process planning.

Abstract:
In this study, energy absorption and impact performance of aluminum sandwich panels with different core structures under impact load were investigated. The main purpose of the study is to reveal how chiral core shapes and sizes affect the energy absorbed by the panel, the contact force and the displacement of the impactor with a constant energy of 90 joule. Numerical studies have been carried out on square sandwich panels with three different core structures: tetrachiral, anti-tetrachiral and hexachiral. Dimensions of all panels, node diameters and ligament thicknesses of chiral structures were kept constant. Finite element models were established for core structures, panels with cell configurations of 3x3, 5x5 and 7x7 for each chiral structure by changing ligament length. Johnson-Cook material model was used for the aluminum sandwich panel, and rigid and isotropic material model was used for the impactor. The effects of auxetic cell structures and cell configurations on the impact behavior of sandwich panels were discussed as a result of the analysis. The highest impact performance emerged in the hexachiral structure with 7x7 cell configuration. As a result of the study, it has been revealed that auxetic chiral structures are materials that can absorb impact energy and have an important place in the mass-performance relationship. This research will be a preliminary study for the understanding of next generation auxetic sandwich panel behaviors.

Abstract:
"Sandwich generation" is a term that denotes a generation whose members, at one stage of their life, take care of their descendants and their aging parents at the same time. The combination of the parental role and the informal care of elderly family members represents the squeeze of the life cycle, i.e. pressure from both younger and older family members, and has its own sociological, cultural, economic, demographic and numerous other dimensions. The goal of the research in this paper was to identify the "sandwich generation" in Serbia from a demographic perspective, using quantitative methods. In the absence of longitudinal and qualitative research, as the most reliable sources of data for the study of this social phenomenon, the examining whether the existing social statistics have data that can support research of this type, was the first step approaching the work. As the most suitable source of data, the European Health Interview Survey (EHIS) was chosen, which was carried out in 2019 in the organization of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia and the Institute for Public Health "Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut". For the purposes of this work, a secondary analysis of data from EHIS was performed, and thus the research capacities of EHIS in this issue were examined and, at the same time, some methodological solutions were offered. The research was conducted on the basis of 975 cases from a sample of 13,178 respondents. The group of respondents was selected on the basis of questions about the provision of informal care, analysis of the structure of households to which they belong and the kinship relationship of household members, from which the parental role was also detected. Defining the demographic profile of this contingent of persons included determining the age-sex structure, marital and work status, level of education, but also the description of accompanying information - the frequency and duration of care provision. Statistical analysis of the data showed that a typical representative of the "sandwich generation" is a woman, aged 45-59, married, employed, with a medium level of education, and that she provides help to an older family member at least 10 hours a week.
