Full textAs the Baby Boomers age, the question of how to care for the burgeoning frail-elderly population grows more pressing. Sandwich-generation adult children are often called upon to make long-term care choices for their frail-elderly parents. This study used a Likert-type survey to determine if any of the six options for long-term care – no care, skilled nursing facilities, group homes, assisted living residences, home health care, and living at home with the sandwich-generation adult child – led to the highest degree of satisfaction for the sandwich-generation adult child who made the long-term care decision. The results indicated that having the frail-elderly parent live with the sandwichgeneration adult child brought the highest level of satisfaction.

This study examined the relationships between the family care stress of sandwich generations and well-being along with demographics. Data through a questionnaire was collected from sandwich generations in Tainan County, Taiwan. Three instruments included “Family Care Stress Scale”, “Social Support Scale” and “Well-being Scale”. Statistical analyzes included “T-test”, “OneWay ANOVA” and “Stepwise Multiple Regression”. The findings were as below. 1.The sandwich generations perceived a middle level of family care stress. In that, the most stress was “financial loadings”, and next would be “role conflict and tension” and “physically and mentally burdens”. 2.The sandwich generations perceived a middle level of well-being. In that, the main resource of well-being was “harmonious relationship”. 3.There would be significant differences on family care stress while the demographic variables were different, such as gender, age, working status, human resources, living with parents, family income, social economic status, minimum age of children, parents’ dependence and social support. 4.There would be significant differences on well-being while the demographic variables were different, such as as gender, working status, human resources, living with parents, family income, social economic status, parents’ dependence and social support. However, there would no significant differences on well-being while the demographic variable were different, such as age and family life cycle. 5.There would be significantly negative correlation between family care stress and well-being. 6.The demographic variables could be the predictors of well-being. The well-being would be higher while social support was more, the role conflict and tension was lower and the financial loadings were more. In addition, subjects who were men or the middle class social status indicated more well-being. Finally, some suggestions are addressed for the sandwich generation, government, related organizations and further researchers.

The global economy has entered into a period of low interest rates. Nowadays, the prices of most commodities are continuously increasing while salaries remain relatively static. There is a group of people who have been deeply affected by the above-situation. They are named the “Sandwich Generation”. They have responsibility for the economic burden related to the expenses of both their children and parents. They are also the main pillar for the economic development of their nation. Therefore, the primary focus of this paper is this “Sandwich Generation”. The thesis of this research paper mostly studies financial management and investment behavior of the“Sandwich Generation” and thoughts about the living care of older people. In addition to literature reviews, an internet survey was used to collect dataThe software SPSS 18.0 was applied to analyze the data. Moreover, Descriptive Statistics, Reliability Analysis, Factor Analysis, Correlation Analysis, Independent Sample t Test, One Way Analysis of Variance, and Regression Analysis were utilized to be the main analysis tools and to verify the research results as well. The research outcomes concerning the “Sandwich Generation” reveal that Stable Type Attitude of Financial Management has a distinctly positive effect on the organizational and communal care; Conservative Type Attitude has an obviously positive effect on the communal care. Furthermore, Aggressive Type and Stable Type Attitudes demonstrate a noticeable difference between different genders. Stable Type and Conservative Type have a manifest difference between different marital status. Stable Type has an obvious difference between different annual incomes and education levels. In addition, investment behavior have a remarkably positive effect on communal care.

Full textThe 2008 financial crisis originated a vast increase in unemployment on numerous European countries with economic and social consequences. The resulting transformations implied changes in lives of the affected invidious and their families since unemployment severely affected the entrance in the job market for the younger members and the way of living of the elders, forcing an adaptation and restructuration of the family core. Thus, the following dissertation intends to study the day-to-day lives of families categorized as belonging to the sandwich generation, which have family responsibilities to their elder parents and to their adult offspring that are not economically independent. Here, the articulation between family and work can be difficult to manage in terms of life quality and wellbeing. This phenomena is the outcome of two major factors, the increase in life expectancy and low birth rates. Using the term coined by author H. Michael Zal in his work during the 90s, the following dissertation intends to study the constrains lived by the different generations either caused by the financial crisis and the subsequent unemployment ratings, or caused by the resulting demographic dynamics, the changes in the personal life and gender roles

The Sandwich Generation refers to individuals who have multiple caregiving responsibilities for children, as well as parents. The present study focused on exploring the relationships between work and family factors, the two most important areas of antecedents, and work and family balance. Factors such as work supports and demands and family supports and demands were investigated deeply on their influences on work-family balance. In addition, we examined the moderating effect of Family Friendly Policies on the relationship between work and family factors and work-family balance. Population will include companies with a diversity of industries in Taiwan and a usable sample of total 510 participants response for further data analyses. The results show that work supports (supervisor and co-worker support) and family supports have positive effects on work-family balance. However, work demand has a negative effect on work-family balance. In addition, flexible working time of Family Friendly Policies has a moderating effect on the relationship between supervisor support and work-family balance. Based on the results, this study provides managerial implications and future research directions.
"Energy generating performance of domestic wastewater fed sandwich dual-chamber microbial fuel cells." Thesis, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10210/13808.
Full textThis study presents work on the design and construction of three dual-chamber microbial fuel cells (MFCs) using a sandwich separator electrode assembly (SSEA) and membrane cathode assembly (MCA) for the dual purposes of energy generation from domestic wastewater and wastewater treatment. MFC1 was designed using an improvised SSEA technique (i.e. a separator electrode membrane electrode configuration, SEMEC) by gluing a sandwich of anode, membrane and a mesh current collector cathode to an anode chamber made from a polyethylene wide-mouth bottle. The reactor was filled with 1500 mL of domestic wastewater and operated on a long fed-batch mode with a residence time of 3 weeks. The reactor was inoculated with a mixed culture of bacteria present in the wastewater stream. The aim was to study the impact of wastewater COD concentration on power generation and wastewater treatment efficiency. For MFC2 and MFC 3, cathodes were constructed using the MCA technique consisting of a membrane and a mesh current collector cathode, with the anode electrode at the opposite side of stacked Perspex sections used for the anode chamber. The impact of electrode material on current production was examined in this study. For MFC2 a mesh current collector treated with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and activated carbon (AC) functioned as the cathode, while the MFC3 cathode was an uncatalyzed mesh current collector. The two reactors were both filled with 350 mL of domestic wastewater...
