Abstract:
Abstract Environmental safety issues are becoming increasingly important in the life of society. Among environmental safety issues in power engineering, acoustic safety occupies a special place. The problem of acoustic safety is associated with the fact that the regular operation of power equipment leads to an increased noise level, and power facilities are located in close proximity to residential areas. In this work, acoustic calculations were performed to determine the sanitary protection zone for gas turbines units (GTU) and combined cycle gas turbine units (CCGT) of various capacities. A formula was obtained for calculating the width of the sanitary protection zone depending on the capacity of gas turbine units and combined cycle plants and their number. It is shown that the sanitary protection zone (SPZ) of a power unit of high capacity is smaller than the sanitary protection zone of several power units of the same capacity. It is found that the noise levels from individual groups of equipment can determine the noise level at the entire border of the sanitary protection zone or in its individual sections. At the same time, noise suppression measures should be taken for all sources that generate noise levels in excess of standards. It is necessary to start noise suppression measures from those sources that generate excess noise in a larger section of the sanitary protection zone.

Abstract:
In recent years, in the Russian Federation there has been an increase in the levels of radiofrequency electromagnetic fields in residential areas, including due to an increase in the number of base stations (BS). The purpose of sanitary and epidemiological surveillance at the stages of placement and commissioning of base stations (BS) is to prevent their adverse effects on public health. The increase in the number of base stations, together with the advent of new electronic equipment and antennas, provide opportunities for improving the processes of their accounting at the stage of placement and monitoring of the levels of radiofrequency electromagnetic fields at the operation stage. This automation tool can be a geo-information portal for providing sanitary and epidemiological surveillance of cellular base stations. The prototype of the geo-information portal allows both calculating the size of sanitary protection zones (SPZ) and building restriction zones (RZ) from the BS in online mode, displaying the results of calculations in graphical form and issuing sanitary and epidemiological conclusions for the placement and operation of base stations. The geo-information portal has the ability to synchronize with the data of the radio frequency center. Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing will be able to receive up-to-date analytical data. There will be completely automated processes of collecting, processing and storing information on BS.

Abstract:
Purpose. Given densification of buildings and changes in the urban planning environment, the need arises for more balanced regulation of issues related to the regulation of the impact of mode-forming objects on the surrounding natural environment. In order to comprehensively take into account the spatial component of the localization of pollution sources and the objects that surround them, it is important to conduct modeling and systematization of possible options for the spatial placement of sanitary protection zones around mode-forming objects. This will make it possible to provide well-founded planning decisions and legal support for establishing their boundaries in the area and further legalization. Methodology. Using the method of system analysis, there was established existence of two fundamentally different groups of planning models of sanitary and protective zones with and without an overlap. The most frequent cases of localization of sanitary and protective zones in both groups were simulated by the modeling method, based on the nature of the model itself. The use of these methods in general made it possible to classify planning models of sanitary protection zones with further substantiation of their features. Findings. The obtained results provide a basis for specialists in urban planning, land management and geodesy to use a comprehensive approach in determining the size and configuration of sanitary protection zones around mode-forming objects. It is important that the results can also be used by environmental experts when justifying the sizes of sanitary protection zones. Originality. For the first time, for sanitary protection zones, grouped planning models have been grouped on which the size and configuration of sanitary protection zones depend that will be established in the area. The models, obtained as a result of the research, were tested for the establishment of sanitary protection zones around the enterprise in Dnipro. Practical value. The systematized planning models can be used to accurately determine the size of the aggregated sanitary protection zone and its configuration to further establish its boundaries on the ground.

Abstract:
Sanitary engineering is burdened by several challenges that attract bioethical attention: (1) there are many ambiguities regarding the definition of the profession; (2) its methodology seems to be a combination of several approaches from different sciences; and (3) it often appears to be an amalgam of different disciplines. We argue that the bioethical perspective helps to show that these features can be taken as a stimulating challenge. Moreover, bioethics may illuminate how these features can become an asset to sanitary engineering in light of the growing need for holistic approaches. First, we present a bioethical analysis of the aforementioned features as a useful way to clarify and strengthen the identity of the profession. Second, we argue that professional ethics have received the least attention, but are crucial to giving the profession stronger independence and professional identity and to creating a unique worldview at the crossroads of environmental and public health ethics. Finally, we propose a general framework of sound professional ethics of sanitary engineering as a necessary step towards rethinking the core values of the profession, clearly articulating a genuine professional ethic, and reforming educational politics related to professional education.

Abstract:
The issue of biodegradability must be addressed when considering the protection of our environment. Plastic materials are used in commercially accessible sanitary napkins. One of the primary issues with sanitary napkins is that they are non-biodegradable and can be found in landfills for up to 800 years. Increased menstrual waste has sparked calls for a revolution and the development of innovative techniques for addressing the global issue of commercial sanitary pads’ non-biodegradability. Plant fibres are a more environmentally friendly alternative to commercially supplied pads. Plant fibres are lignocellulosic fibres composed primarily of cellulose, hemicelluloses, lignin, pectin, and other polymers. In terms of abundance, biodegradability, non-irritant and chemical-free, easily renewable and environmental friendliness, plant fibres represent a suitable alternative to commercial sanitary napkins. The current review focuses on plant fibres such as jute, bamboo, bananas, and kenaf as an alternative raw material in the manufacture of sanitary napkins.

Abstract:
The article defines the state of the criminal and executive principles development of medical and sanitary support of prisoners sentenced to imprisonment in Ukraine. It was found that national penitentiary scientists did not pay enough attention to this issue, since the study of the medical and sanitary support of convicts in places of imprisonment was not conducted. Therefore, during the research, it is necessary to eliminate this problem, since the medical and sanitary support of prisoners sentenced to imprisonment in Ukraine is: first, a component of serving a criminal sentence; secondly, it is their health, which is important after the convicts have served their sentence for the committed crime, in order to ensure effective social adaptation; thirdly, it is a certain part of the reform of the penitentiary system of Ukraine and its transformation into a penitentiary system of a new European model. A number of previously unexplored directions that require in-depth scientific research within the scope of the research subject have been identified, which, in particular, are: – formulation of a methodological toolkit for the study of criminal and executive principles of medical and sanitary support of prisoners sentenced to imprisonment in Ukraine; – research on the origins of the formation and development of the regulatory and legal regulation of medical and sanitary support of prisoners sentenced to deprivation of liberty in Ukraine; – analysis of international legal regulation and foreign experience of medical and sanitary support of prisoners sentenced to imprisonment; – definition of the concept and content of medical and sanitary support for prisoners sentenced to imprisonment; – determination of the place of medical and sanitary support of prisoners sentenced to imprisonment in the mechanism of implementation of the right to health care; – establishing a correlation and clarifying the extent of the influence of the state of health of those sentenced to imprisonment on the change in their legal status; – providing a description of the organizational principles and interaction of authorized subjects regarding the medical and sanitary support of prisoners sentenced to imprisonment in Ukraine; – formulation of proposals for improving the criminal law enforcement of Ukraine and law enforcement practice in the field of medical and sanitary support for those sentenced to imprisonment; – development of the Concept of Reform (Development) of Penitentiary medicine in Ukraine. Key words: state of development, subject of research, science of criminal and executive law, criminal and executive principles, medical and sanitary support of those sentenced to imprisonment.

Abstract:
A perfect setup to prevent epidemics is currently in affect throughout the world. Sanitary engineering, though not directly, is largely responsible for the annihilation of many diseases that used to be very problematic, such as typhus or cholera. However, these diseases are outdated and haven't been a problem for over a century due to the success of infrastructure such as water treatment and sewage. Modern causes of death (such as car accidents) are still overshadowed by the death toll taken up by illness. What is different is the nature of those diseases. In order to prevent them, on a larger scale, a new approach must be created. This paper offers an idea on how to return to the core of sanitary engineering and improve modern health conditions by exploring the etiology of these afflictions and providing precise engineering solutions.

Abstract:
Written on the basis of archival sources drawn for the first time, the article is devoted to the problem of changing the sanitary and ecological conditions of the theatre of military operations at the Russian front during the First World War. The aim of the article is to analyze the sanitary and hygienic state of the theatre of military operations on the western outskirts of Russia during the First World War and the factors of its deterioration; to evaluate the effectiveness of combating the negative aspects of the sanitary state of the front-line territory; to identify the actual environmental practices of the front-line territory and their interrelation with the social aspects of the struggle for the improvement of the territory in conditions of total war. The focus is on the pre-war sanitary situation in the western region of Russia, reflecting its cultural and socio-political peculiarities, its exacerbation during the war and mobilization, as well as sanitary and hygienic measures taken both in eliminating epidemics of contagious diseases and in "sanitating" the front-line territory. The issue is considered in the light of total war, which formed a unified, front and rear, landscape of sanitary hazards. Attention is paid to the activities of society, bureaucracy and military commanders, who generally succeeded in transforming the belligerent landscape and localizing the spread of disease. The technical activities of the engineering and sanitary services of the front and rear are described in detail. The author concludes that the Great War was an important impulse and frontier in solving the problem of improving the ecological condition of Russia's western outskirts. During the war, the belligerent landscape was transformed into an anthropogenic landscape, becoming the basis for the area's future infrastructure in terms of sanitation and hygiene

Abstract:
The professional standard is the basis of education and training. It should meet modern requirements to ensure the sanitary and epidemiological wellbeing of the country’s population, the labor market. The current professional standard does not fully take into account the various types of economic activity in which young professionals of the medical and preventive profile will work. The main task of a specialist in the medical and prophylactic profile is to carry out activities aimed ensuring the sanitary and epidemiological wellbeing of the population (informing the control subject concerning mandatory sanitary and epidemiological requirements, implementation, assessing the effectiveness and effectiveness of their implementation, implementing production control, expert control, sanitary-epidemiological audit). The main employers for these young professionals are organizations of the sanitary and epidemiological services; hospitals, sanatorium, spa and resort organizations; organization of disinfection and deratization, organizations of industrial equipment, testing and analysis of the composition and purity of materials and substances; testing and analysis in the field of food hygiene; testing and analysis of physical and mechanical properties of materials and substances; examination of design documentation and engineering survey results; monitoring of environmental pollution. The professional standard of the young professionals in the hygiene profile has a particular set of qualities, skills, and behaviors that ensure the success of the career. There is a set of standards for education and training of professionals in the hygiene profile. There are sanitary and epidemiological diagnostic - activities to establish compliance (inconsistency) with the requirements of the legislation of the Russian Federation in the field of public health. Also, there is the support of the sanitary and epidemiological wellbeing of the population, technical regulation, labor protection, various activities concerning and preventive measures; organization of monitoring and sanitary-epidemiological assessment of the risk of environmental factors affecting health. The education and training of students of medical-prophylactic faculties should be carried out taking into account modern approaches to the professional standard for the specialist of the hygienic profile and the educational standard developed on the basis of it.

Abstract:
The Institute of Sanitation Engineering and Waste Management of the University of Hannover made investigations on sediments in sanitary sewers. These were aimed to assess how sediments influence the sewer environment, with regard especially to water quality, gas atmosphere and corrosion progress. The sulfate reduction from sediments could be determined. It was 82 % higher than the reduction rate of biofilm. A prediction of sulfate reduction with equations from biofilm theory is possible. The biologically active sediment layer for sulfate reduction has a thickness of 5 to 7.5 cm. The sulfide formation in a large sanitary sewer in Hannover depends only on water temperature with a correlation of 91 %.

Abstract:
Sanitary landfill remains the most common methodology for final treatment and disposal of municipal solid waste worldwide, the cost per tonne depends on its scale. The bigger the landfill, the cheaper the cost of treatment, so the consortium of municipalities is the solution to achieve an economic scale. However, the growth of waste production introduces pressure for adequate solutions and therefore has been increasing sanitary landfill site selection studies. This study proposes a methodology for siting sanitary landfills and optimising the transport of municipal solid waste for a locality in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Environmental, social, and economic criteria were established. Their correlated attributes were categorised into suitability levels and weighted according to multiple decision analysis. The data were organised and mapped within a geographic information system. Considering sites where landfills are prohibited, two scenarios were generated. The Mixed-Integer Quadratic Programming mathematical model is used to minimise the costs of transporting municipal solid waste and operating sanitary landfills. In Scenario 1, the results indicated that 64% of the area was suitable as a potential sanitary landfill site, 9% of the area exhibited medium suitability, and 27% of the area was classified as restricted. In Scenario 2, the results indicated that 25% of the area was suitable as a potential sanitary landfill site, 4% of the area had medium suitability, and 71% of the area was classified as restricted. The optimal solutions for Scenario 1 and Scenario 2 enabled sites to be determined for five landfills and four landfills, respectively.

Abstract:
The Victorian Britain was swept by five cholera epidemics which led to evolution of sanitary culture that was punctuated by sanitary reforms and engineering. The epidemic made social, political and spatial relations to change. It also led to the emergence of a concept ‘sanitary city’ in the urban planning, a concept that circulated to other parts of the world. Victorian ideas were on the move. Many works on cholera epidemics and sanitary cities discuss mainly about the contributions of few actors, particularly Sir Edwin Chadwick, the main sanitation infrastructures and about a select of cholera epidemics that the swept across towns and cities during the Victorian era. On the contrary, the monograph by a historian Amanda J. Thomas sets out a novel departure by examining all five epidemics and explaining how knowledge and experience of each epidemic drew many actors as well as a series of interventions. It weaves together the social and epidemiological histories of cholera; biographical contributions of key Victorian figures particularly Sir Joseph Bazalgette, Dr. John Snow and William Farr; social history of urban poverty; and the critical accounts that portray reactions of people in the times of epidemics.

Abstract:
The paper describes an ongoing study based on the mandatory “Sanitary Engineering Basic Course” that was taught for third year environmental engineering students at the University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway (NTNU) in the spring semesters of 1997, 1998 and 1999. The focus is on teaching and learning methodology (i.e. traditional individual frontal lecture-based versus project-based in groups). Experience shows that project-based learning (PBL) is a suitable teaching method. PBL challenges the students to stay active throughout the semester and thus results in higher learning efficiency. Simultaneously, both students and teachers need to use more time. Technical skills (“design calculations”) were not improved, but students clearly developed project management skills (communication, organisation, group work, etc.).

Abstract:
The cultural aspect of managing disposable diapers and sanitary napkins in Indonesia is very important. The purpose of this study was to obtain an overview of the cultural aspects of the waste management process. The method used literature review. The data analysis used thematic analysis. The articles obtained from the selection were 18 titles. The results of the review show that the culture that is most discussed in the issue of disposable diapers and sanitary napkin waste management is the culture of industrial society, then Javanese society, and the last one is colonial. Culture is discussed in the realm of practice and reasons for use as well as practices and reasons for waste management. Things that need to be deepened are culture in the form of (1) cultural engineering and cultural environment and (2) the realm of the impact of using and managing disposable diapers and sanitary napkins. Another suggestion is to expand database searches and perform SLRs for more detailed results.

Abstract:
Virtual Reality (VR) is the term often used to describe a 3D environment where objects and images of the real world are simulated through technology. In Architecture or Civil Engineering, the design process with 2D planes could lead to error due to misinterpretation in the visualisation of elements. The civil engineering programme of a University mandates teaching of the BIM methodology in all courses, allowing the students to learn about the organisation and optimisation of projects from design to construction. The engineering students are required to manage many variables with BIM methodology, especially in mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems (MEP). Nevertheless, the BIM´s teaching method could be enriched by analysing 3D project models using virtual reality (VR). Whereas BIM organises and optimises a project through a 3D model, VR can introduce the user into a model very close to reality, improving the interpretation and analysis of details. The present study contributes to the implementation of a Plumbing Engineering course in a Civil Engineering programme. The proposed methodology was applied in an experimental group of undergraduate students and test results compared with a corresponding group that made used of a traditional approach. Based on the results of the study, students can visualise the accessories and recognise a good design in a creative and innovative way using the VR–BIM method
