Full textTHE DISTRIBUTION OF INFORMATION IN THE RURAL AREA OF THE CONGO IS FREQUENTLY INHIBITED, LIMITED AND EVEN PREVENTED BY THE ORGANISATION, THE FUNCTIONING AND THE STRUCTURAL OR SOCIAL LOYALITIES OF THE INDIVIDUALS AND INSTITUTIONS WHO INTERVENE IN THIS DOMAIN. THESE RUPTURES ARE GENERALLY DUE TO THE IGNORANCE OF THE INTENDED RECIPIENT CULTURE. ALSO INAPPROPRIATE POLITICAL POLICIES ARE TO BLAME : THEIR CREATOR ARE RARELY SUFFICIENTLY CONCERNED NEITHER WITH THE COHERENCE OF THEIR DISCOURSE NOR with THE METHODS AND MEANS ESTABLISHED IN THE RURAL AREA. PROJECTS HAVE GENERALLY BEEN SIMPLIFIED TO THE POINT WHERE ONE HAS ATTEMPTED TO SOLVE PROBLEMS OF UTILISATION BY SOLUTIONS PURELY TECHNICAL; WHEREAS THESE ARE THE RESULT SIMPLY OF SOCIO-TECHNICALS MEDIATIONS. OTHER RUPTURES ARE CAUSED BY THE POOR TRAINING OF COMMUNICATION AGENTS WHICH DEVOTES LITTLE TIME NEITHER TO COMMUNICATION ITSELF NOR TO KNOLEDGE OF THE RURAL MILIEU. THIS LACK OF KNOLEDGE IS, MOREVER, THE ROOT CAUSE OF A DEEP GULF BETWEEN INFORMATION DEMANDED AND SUPPLY. FACED WITH AGENTS WHO DO NOT UNDERSTAND THEM AND with INAPPROPRIATE INFORMATION, THE RURAL POPULATION ADOPT ATTITUDES RANGING FROM DEVIATION TO REJECTION. "INFORMATION OF THE RURAL AREA IN THE CONGO, THE CASE OF THE REGIONS OF POOL AND PLATEAUX" IS A STUDY AIMED AT THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE DISTRIBUTION OF INFORMATION. IT HIGHLIGHTS THE NUMEROUS RUPTURES WHICH HINDER, LIMIT OR PREVENT THE DISTRIBUTION OF INFORMATION, INDENTIFIES THEIR PRINCIPAL CAUSES, AND PROPOSES CHANGES AIMED AT A PERFECT HARMONY BETWEEN THE SENDER AND THE RECEIVER OF INFORMATION IN THE RURAL MILIEU. THESE IMPROVMENTS ARE BASED ON NEGOCIATION AND PLACES THE GREAT EMPHASIS ON THE PARTICIPATION OF THE PEASANT IN THE PREPARATION AND DIFFUSION OF THE INFORMATION DESTINED FOR HIS RECEPTION. THE REVALORISATION OF THE RECIPIENT IMPLIES THE TAKING INTO ACCOUNT OF TRADITIONAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS WHICH IN THE CASE OF THE CONGO PLAY A PREDOMINANT ROLE. IT IS NOT A QUESTION, AT THIS LEVEL, OF PRIVILEGING ONE SYSTEM COVER ANOTHER BUT OF RATHER ARRIVING AT A BALANCE IN WHICH EACH MEANS OF INFORMATION AND EACH PARTICIPANT HAS ITS PLACE

Full textIn the Lubero highlands, in Democratic Republic of Congo, there are environmental and social problems which depend on natural and social factors. These problems, which appear once the demographic carrying capacity of the lands has been surpassed, are the vegetation degradation, the fall of soils' fertility, the soils' erosion, the protected areas violation, the land scarcity and the land conflicts. As far as the physical environment is concerned, they depend on the slopes, the deep rocks' alteration, the soils' granulometry, the low vegetal cover and the erosive potential of the climate. For the society, they are caused by the progressive occupation of the land, the human densities, the landed system, the exploitation of the nature and the development of lands. To resolve these problems, and more particularly the problem of soils' erosion, which is the most important, this thesis proposes a rational planning integrating an intervention on the physical environment as well as social and economical measures. The controlling of soils' erosion requires the construction of terraces and anti-erosive hedges, the practice of agroforestery, of soil conservation methods, the reforestation and some degree of agricultural mechanization. Execution of these requires foremostly the actors' awareness and the land reforms, accompanied by population emigration, family planning and diversification of activities apart from agriculture. So, the protection of the environment shows that there is a narrow relation between man and nature in territory's planning matter

Full textThis study attempts to provide a partial explanation of academic failure, developmental delay and the lowering of academic standards in the peoples republic of the Congo. Our two hypotheses, based upon the theoretical and methodological postulates of Piaget's epistemology, concern how, in the rural Congo, these problems are in relation to the children's structural deficits and unfavorable social and environmental conditions. With reference to Piaget's general hypothesis, the congolese child's reasoning capacity and developmental rate are comparable to those of the swiss children he studied in his protocols of 1927, 1941 and 1955. However, with reference to the intercultural hypothesis, although the congolese child's operant structures are present, his developmental rate is slower than that of the geneva population Piaget studied. A control group was constituted among schoolchildren of congolese origin living in France where their parents were university students. Although we obtained the same results with this population as in Piaget's general hypothesis, from the point of view of the intercultural hypothesis, the children's operant development was identical to the swiss population. The decisive factor is undoubtedly the enriched environment (stimuli and

Full textThe thesis written on tradition an modernity showed there was a contradiction that people could not explain. Among the authors who studied this problem on tradition and modernity, we could draw 3 opinions: !) One which translates the traditions, is the major source of identity 2) one another is the problem which hinders the development of modernity. 3) One more mixed attempts to assure the future by necessary technical means, by using example on tradition. I have chosen this mixed opinion as i have studied the tradition as the way to maintain traditional society against some exaggerations and risks unexpected. 87,5 % of people interviewed had followed traditional education. 80 % of them had transmitted traditions to members of their community. 60 % distinguished that members of the community had a positive attitude face to tradition (see tables no 1,2,3). Yes to modernity, to change, to development of rural society and so to regard for cultural personal identity. If the traditional society would to leave underdevelopment, it is obliged to produce more and get into working order. In my discourse, school is the best way to reach the objectives above-mentioned. In fine, school transmits values, customs, morale and knowledges which are characters of global society and authorize itself to function well

Full textFollowing the food shortage crisis of the years 1972-1975, international organizations together with many developing countries showed a special interest in food manufacture, and set forth a series of agressive rural and faming policies. In order to adjust its developing strategies with its motto "food self-sufficiency" by the year 2000", the nation of congo undertook a variety of agricultural policies. Thanks to these policies, a number of measures were taken by the congolese authorities in order to provide food manufacture as well as rural life with adequate assistance. Among those involved in the process, are the women whose role has always been crucial, though quite often on the fringe of society. Indeed, besides their traditional african role as housekeepers, the rural women are actively involved in food crops growing as well as the manufacture and food suppling process of towns. They are also involved in the manufacture of those food crops usually known as males'business. They supply the family with gathering goods such as roots, plants, insects and fruits, which it needs for its survival. But despite such a prominent role within the family, it is unfortunate to note that up to now, the rural women do not enjory adequate supervision, and there has not yet a special interest in their economic status on the part of political authorities. For this very reason, no training is offered to these women so that they could better assist the society in their role. Actually no financial support has been made available to them so that their activities could be modernized for better performances. Such needs are so crucial that most of rural women have organized themselves in systems of tontines to to finance their activites, and these tontines have become the only credible financial institutions among the rural women, though they are still considered as informel institutions. Obviously, they represent a challenge to inefficient governments and insensitive authorities
