Full textThis thesis is an anthropological study of family planning in Bamako, Mali. It aims at understanding the behaviours of social actors facing family programs propositions. One of important aspects of our demonstration is the fact that the programs norms are not the only normative referents for the individuals. Among other normative universes which influence their behaviours, some value the reproduction (customs, religion) and the others the infertile sexuality and the research for the sexual pleasure (Globalized sexual models). By analyzing actors' practices, we made the report that, on one side the social actors conjugate all these normative sets in their sexual and reproductive behaviours and that, by other side, they divert the norms of the programs

Full textOur main goal in this work is to analyze the factors linked with the controversial consumption of alcohol, tobacco or marijuana and to analyze the role of laws and of the inner family communication about the risk of their use.Norms and parental control have generally a determining role in the use of those three illegal substances in the 15-25 years group. They are usually linked to the idea of remaining clean, I.E, not consuming tobacco and delaying the first contact with marijuana. And to the intention of decreasing the number of glasses during a party as well as the frequent consumption of alcohol which is quite common among the youngers (15-17 years old). Beside this idea, our research shows that topics dealing with alcohol, drugs and tobacco are discussed within the family circle, but are not a repetitive phenomenon. That type of discussion has to do with gender. Our analyses suggest the idea of fighting against the daily consumption of tobacco among youth (15-17 years old). Because all the precautions taken would therefore allow to fight against an early consumption marijuana. For those who do not consume alcohol and drugs, efforts put on prevention and on the decrease or the total absence of their use should be narrowed down on peer pressure and the improvement of parental skills on the issue

Full textThis work describes and discusses the design and validation of a new health education model : the « Family Health Education » (ESF). It is based on primary care anslocal emergency skills. Several surveys conducted at national and regional level by the Education and Health Laboratory Practice (University Paris 13), in partnership with the National union of family associations (UNAF) the Social and agricultural insurance system (MSA) and Rural families house (MFR) have confirmed the need for families to benefit from such training. The ESF consists of 9 to 12 hours training on a voluntary basis for the management of small daily troubles, the resolution of incidents and emergency situations, the management of children and seniors health. The model of ESF conceptualized by general practitioners, emergency and generalist practitioners, health educators and a midwife was tested between 2012 and 2013 by experimental training in 3 areas of the territory on family members (n=22) and adolescents (n=21). They verified that the participants following the training feel more confident and able to bring help and assistance. A survey to the participants (n=43) showed an increase in their feeling of competence regarding the management of emergencies and common health problems. This feeling of competence, questioned 3 months later by 10 minutes telephone conversation (n=34) confirmed the maintain of these results. The validity of the ESF model will soon be evaluated at the regional level in Lorraine by evaluating several other formations, in partnership with the ARS

Full textThe debate on the ageing in Europe is currently paying considerable attention to the social and economic consequences of demographic trends. Central to the discussion surrounding the extension of the active lifespan is the state of health of the elderly. On one hand the health condition of the population is clearly crucial to all hypotheses linked to the extension of active life, on the other hand, European governments are specifically interested in forecasting the health care needs and services which will be required by the elderly. This study on one hand measure demographic and social inequalities in life expectancy without disability in France and on the other hand estimates the probability of being in good health conditions according to some indiviadual characterics, using the data of the French survey on handicaps, disabilities and dependency (hid)

Full textPharmacists’ work in family medicine group (FMG) and their role in the management of clients with complex needs is an innovation in Quebec province whose have hardly been studied. The objectives were to assess the integration of pharmacists and to study the influence of their presence in these multidisciplinary care teams on interprofessional collaboration. A qualitative study was conducted using semi-structured interviews and questionnaires (Pharmacist-Physician Collaborative Index (PPCI) and Team Climate Inventory (ICE)) with doctors (Md), pharmacists and other professionals inside and outside four FMGs in Quebec city. A thematic content analysis was performed for the interviews. Statistical analyzes describing collaboration, team climate and comparing different backgrounds and professionals were also carried out. We met 45 professionals (6 pharmacists (inside FMG), 13 MD, 11 others, 15 pharmacists (outside FMG). Pharmacists were working in FMG since a mean of 3.75 years. Interviews indicate that the successful integration of the pharmacist into FMG requires time and effort from the organization, pharmacists and other professionals, particularly with respect to understanding roles. The level of collaboration between doctors and pharmacists is high with lower scores on two dimensions (i.e. definition of roles and working relationships). Team climate is generally good with higher scores for FMGs having a focus on training (university affiliated). These results allow a better understanding of the integration of the pharmacist into family medicine groups and on the organizational impacts that these health professionals can have in primary care teams.

Full textAbstract : Background : The prevalence of obesity among Canadian adults reached a record high in 2015 (28.1%). Primary care providers (PCPs) play a crucial role regarding the management of this epidemic. Although international literature suggests that the management of obesity in the primary care setting is suboptimal, no Canadian study based on medical record review has yet assessed this issue. The current lack of information is problematic because it makes it impossible to judge the extent of the problem in the country. Moreover, since the aspects of obesity management which represent the greatest challenges for Canadian PCPs remain unidentified, it is difficult to adapt PCPs’ education programs. Objectives of the project: Identify the rates of obesity screening, diagnosis and management in Quebec and evaluate the predictors of obesity management. Methodology: A retrospective cohort study was conducted among 439 adults treated in one of 10 participating family medicine groups (FMG). Anthropometric measurements were performed from each patient as part of an initial visit. The clinical encounter notes of physicians and nurses from every patient medical record were reviewed over an 18 months period in order to detect the presence of documented obesity management interventions. The looked-for interventions were extracted from the Canadian guidelines for the management of obesity. Mixed-effects regression models were used to identify the predictors of obesity management. Results: The rate of obesity screening was low (31%). Among patients with a measured body mass index (BMI) ≥30 (n = 175), 52% had an obesity diagnosis and 38% received physical activity or nutritional counseling during the follow-up period. Patient’s BMI and number of identified comorbidities were independant predictors of obesity diagnosis. The presence of an obesity diagnosis in the medical record and the number of clinical encounters with a nurse during the 18-months period were independent predictors of lifestyle counseling. Eighty percent of screening and diagnoses were performed by physicians. Nurses were considerably more involved in the provision of lifestyle counselling (65 % GPs/35 % nurses). Conclusions : The rates of obesity screening, diagnosis and counselling in Quebec FMGs are suboptimal. Interventions have to be deployed in order to increase the quality of care. Future researches should explore the impact of an enhanced access to specialized nurses and the adaptation of the current initial and continuous education programs on the rates of obesity management.

Doctoral thesis, Université Laval, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.11794/25735.
Full textIt has now been well-documented that mental disorders, like psychotic disorders, carry significant impacts for the family of the person afflicted. During a first-episode psychosis (FEP), the parents are the ones who are specifically sought to play a supportive role for their young adult and to contribute to the early interventions that promote rehabilitation and recovery. Early intervention programs based on schizophrenia treatment good practices also include family interventions. Despite the tendency to offer family interventions, we know little about the factors that can predict the parent’s ability to cope with their supportive role in this particular context. For the present research, a coping model was tested with a sample of 58 parents and in-laws who received services from a clinic specializing in the treatment of psychotic disorders in the early stages. The initial stance guiding the selection of variables claimed that coping in a context of FEP provides an opportunity for development, and even personal growth. The results obtained from the statistical analyses provide a systematic approach to understanding coping while considering the interinfluence of personal factors (certain characteristics of the parents), along with environmental factors (characteristics linked to the intervention). The final coping model invites parents to identify intervention targets that can help develop empowerment without compromising their ability to function socially. Participating in active coping strategies, such as committing to a family intervention and developing a collaborative relationship with social workers, represents a new avenue for the parental coping phenomenon. Focusing on early interventions, promoting active participation in rewarding social roles for parents and for those living with psychotic disorders, and encouraging the use of the many services offered in partnership are all part of the recommendations that have been issued in light of the results obtained under this thesis.

This research aims to bring out, from an intersectorial feminist viewpoint, the influence that some factors of oppression exert in the structuration of experience of native women, victims of domestic violence and living in isolated communities, when accessing health and psycho-social services and resources. Content analysis of 19 focus groups interviews realized in two isolated native communities reveal a cumulation and interaction of different oppression systems creating fundamental inequalities that structure the relative positions of the victims of violence. It suggests the necessity to take into account the power systems that may compromise access to these services. This thesis is part of a larger research project led by Lyse Montminy et al., and realized with the collaboration of ground communities partners, on the topic of violence in Quebec native communities. It relies on the analysis of secondary data gathered in this research.

Full textThis thesis aims at exploring the perceived stigmatization towards persons possibly leaving with Alzheimer’s disease among the population of the family caregivers – grown-up children and spouses. Not only do we have observed sources of stigmatizations aimed at patients possibly leaving with Alzheimer’s disease, in relation with emotional reactions and either affiliation behavior, or social distancing from the family and social circle, but we have also observed factors of stigmatization leading to variations in patients’ quality of life. Amongst family caregivers, we have studied factors of stigmatization leading to changes in the associated depressive symptoms and the increased caregiver burden. With respect to the relationship induced, we have given attention to the moderating role of social support. Our results show that, among patients, the negative emotions and the social distancing behavior from social circle can be linked to the frequency of behavioral symptoms related to the depression. With respect to this observation, we show an variation in the patients’ quality of life according to the places they live in. At home, we have noted increased social distancing behavior from the social circle. Amongst the relatives caregivers, we have also noticed that social support has a moderating influence on the effects of negative emotions, the social distancing behavior from the social circle towards the patient, the symptoms and the burden of care felt by the caregivers. However, the social support exacerbates the relation between positive emotions among the relatives and the burden of care. This thesis gives us the opportunity to objectify the stigmatization process with respect to Alzheimer’s disease amongst patients and their relatives caregivers. Our results could open the way to specific communications promoting the necessity for social support in favor of the entire population concerned by Alzheimer’s disease

The third part details the rituals and health practices during pregnancy, childbirth and first episodes of childhood illnesses. More than the traditional practitioners, women, and especially mothers, are the first to diagnose and treat family ailments, thanks to their knowledge of plants and their use of simple, daily objects present in the house and its surroundings. Popular medicine is often criticised b y health professionals, particularly when it involves self-medication. Yet, millions of children owe their health and well-being to the domestic and sanitary activities of the mothers

Full textWith the population ageing, the expected increase in the long term care demand questions the role our societies want to entrust to family in the care provision for disabled elderly people. We use a micro-econometric framework to study individual and family caregiving behaviours. From a public policy perspective, three mains findings emerge from the analysis proposed. First, the identification of family interactions in individual caregiving decisions highlights the necessity to reconsider the idea of an inexorable decline in family support. Second, the decrease in labour supply induced by the care provision beyond a certain level points out the limits of a public policy aimed at both extending the work lives of seniors and encouraging informal care for disabled elderly people. Finally, the use au publicly funded formal care is associated with a rather modest decline in family support

Full textThe main objective of this thesis was characterizing and analysing social presence in the transition(s) of Brazilian women from privileged classes to motherhood, in Brazil, France, Portugal and Sweden, inrecent years. As a final goal, it intended to contribute to de-construct the hegemonic model of ―good motherhood in Brazil, which is established from the experiences of middle-class white Brazilian wom-en. As methodological strategy, it focused on Brazilian mothers‘ experiences of presences, using Computer-Mediated Communication and three methods in parallel: a documentary research on official re-ports of perinatal health and family policies, biographical interviews and recording of daily diaries, articulated through a phenomenological perspective. Therefore, in my fieldwork I searched, in a spiral drift-ing, how certain moral rhetorics associated to gender, class and racial norms are reproduced by privileged mothers in maternal transitions. Beyond of this process of reproducing hegemonic representation of motherhood, I also found generating hesitations and ethical enactment among these women towards marginalized mothers such as racialized, single and poor ones. Finally, this thesis discusses how care ethics raise from daily parental relationships and how improving responsive social presence is quite significant for the promotion of such ethics beyond of feminine care work

Enquanto as agroindústrias familiares mobilizam recursos sociais e naturais locais, as grandes agroindústrias têm incorporado recursos técnicos mundialmente estandartizados.

Abstract : Design has been conceived as a contributing factor for organizational performance. However, to have a strategic application, it is necessary that the designer understands the organization and its context. In a management approach, the designer expands his view and, from the diagnosis, seeks to understand the environment in which the organization is. This diagnosis allows both the designer and the ones connected with the enterprise to visualize the situation and identify the real needs to be met. Despite its growing recognition, design is still seen within a limited perspective among small enterprises. In general, its contributions are believed to be punctual, considered as additional expenditure or even unknown. In this context, small enterprises of family farming lack familiarity and access to design recurrently. Thus, the objective of this thesis is to diagnose and propose recommendations through design management in a small family farming enterprise. The applied research was carried out with a cooperative which focused on banana farming and followed five main stages. The first one consisted of identifying the internal and external environments in which interviews, observations and documents were used to immerse the researcher in the context of the cooperative. The second stage was about organization, in which the data collected were organized in visual panels and prepared for the next step. In the third stage, besides validating data collection, definition took place, which involved the establishment of the future situation desired by the farmers; the identification of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats; besides short, medium and long-term prioritization. In the fourth stage, the final diagnosis was build, which included the current situation analysis and, finally, the final step that consisted of the proposition of recommendations. The results allowed the understanding of the diagnosis as a key factor for design management application and its contribution to provide users with clarity, reflection and also enable the assessment of the situation in face of the competitive environment and its intended future situation. By having access to relevant information, this undertaking facilitated the identification of the ways in which design could intervene in conscious manner and still propose suitable actions with regard to the real situation of the small business.

The objective of this dissertation is to study the historical relation established between the pig agribusiness and family farming and at the same time, to show understanding elements about how this link reverberated in the economic development of the Catarinense West region. Based on the trajectory of the relationship between family farming and agribusiness, focusing on pig farming, and reflections on regional development until the 1980s, describes the changes brought about by macroeconomic politics in the relationship between family farming and agribusiness capital from that decade. Analyzes the disruptions in the productive systems of family farming, with its impact on regional economic development, caused by the deployment of the integration of agro-industrial pig farming. Leading to the creation and recreation of social inequality in the region. From the literature review and the interviews with 30 people including farmers, representatives of organizations and political leaders, describes the trajectory made by family farms in the region in the pig production related to agribusiness. Going through the various stages of this process, which began with subsistence production became commercial production went through a stage of differentiation of prices and production, integrated with agribusiness, reaching in the present time its completely internalization to the business partnership system. Using the theories of financial globalization, uneven development, the concept of endogenous development and family farming. Given that seeks to establish the relationship between the trajectory of the pig and the actors involved in the development of the western Santa Catarina. Full textThis research analyzes the transformations of agrarian sector of Santa Maria RS, perspective of socioeconomic development, with the main objective of studying, evaluating and interpreting these transformations that represent the socio-spatial class called rural. These changes are focused on the optical properties of the multifunctional family of rural class. Even presenting difficulties as access, lack of health services, education, employment, salary and "discomfort" of life, expectations point to new roles that are important in the context of contemporary development to the rural class. To avoid the emptying of the countryside and the imminent collapse of the internal supply, the Brazilian government increased recovery policies and promotion of small properties of class, supporting multiple functions and exploration of cultural knowledge in productive activities. The study of this geographical category adopted the systemic methodology, originated in general systems theory (TGS), crafted by Bertalanffy, the ideas of Morin's system and periodization of time/space based on the Scientific-Technical-Informational period, of Santos, to recognize, evaluate and interpret their dynamics that are in action, as well as the complexity of their actions established in relationships with the city that serves as the consumer market. The use of mixed method allowed to get both: qualitative data and qualitative information enabling to understand the current socio-spatial organization. We conclude that is ample the scope of agricultural and non-agricultural activities developed in the rural class and there are several functions wich identification can be performed by analysis, interpretations and reflections about the subsystems, including its fixed and flows.

Full textThis thesis focuses on a population of adolescents with type 1 diabetes and their parents. It examines the influence of adolescents’ and their parents’ perceptions of type 1 diabetes, on their respective adjustments to the disease. First, we present the characteristics of type 1 diabetes, its specificities in adolescence, and two criteria used to examine adjustment to the disease : metabolic control and quality of life. After having defined the notion of illness perception and describing its influences on adjustment, the role of family members' perception is examined. A study of illness perception in the family through self- and hetero-evaluation is then presented. The two lines of research aim to highlight the existence of potential interpretations of the family members’ perceptions and analyze their influence on adjustment to the illness. The first two studies highlight the impact of type 1 diabetes' perception, both self- and hetero-evaluation, by adolescents and their parents on their adjustment. The last study reports, using a qualitative approach, the links between illness perception in the family and adolescents' quality of life, in light of family diabetes management. In conclusion, our studies provide further support the need to study the illness perception in the family through the prism of interpersonal perception and meta-perception. Finally, the limits of this work and research and applied perspectives are discussed

Full textHome care of persons with a chronic disease is increasingly provided by family caregivers, but their lifestyle creates a risk to their health. Therefore, leading a research on their "health capability", in other words, on their ability to adopt a healthy lifestyle is of major scientific interest. The operationalization of this paradigm, developed by Ruger in 2010 to understand the factors of maintaining a state of optimal health, has been the heart of our research. Based on a quantitative data collection conducted in Luxembourg and Lorraine (France), a Health Capability of Family Caregivers instrument (HCFC-20 items) was developed and tested. It explores eight areas: physical health, psychological health, lifestyle value, sense of self-efficacy, family support, social capital, material conditions/sense of security, satisfaction with information and healthcare services. Additional qualitative surveys have completed the HCFC-20 with 77 items covering areas such as motivation, life skills and coping styles. This instrument allows to develop personalized diagnoses and to evaluate health-promoting programs. Our preliminary analyses have also indicated that the impacts of a chronic disease are experienced jointly in patient-caregiver dyads; and the value placed on the role of caregiver is encouraged by the support from professionals and a social network. In order to improve the health capability of caregivers, taking into account both their autonomy and their need for support is therefore required

Full textFamily planning is founded on the principles of human dignity and responsible parenthood, in which the State is responsible to provide a set of actions to ensure to the woman, to the man, and to the couple, the right of establishment, limitation and increase of offspring, according to their interests. It is understood that family planning includes not only biological, but also emotional and cultural aspects. In this regard, it is believed that Psychology can contribute to the amplification of knowledge about this subject. Based on this, the present study intends to know the opinions of women who use the Unified Health System about family planning, and also understand their positions referring to the subject. We also intended to know the participants family structures, and the meanings they attribute to family. Finally, we sought to understand the role and participation of women and men in relation to family planning. In order to so, we conducted an exploratory research with a qualitative approach, in which the data was collected through a semi-structured interview. After the interviews transcription, the technique of content analysis was employed in order to analyse the data. The research sample was composed of 15 women, who represented four Family Health Strategy (FHS) units from different areas of the city of Santa Maria. The results were presented in three articles. The first article identified that none of the four FHS units offered specific actions of family planning. Participants possessed no knowledge about family planning and had not participated in any specific action in this respect. The second article focused on the participants family structures, which are based on affective bonds, and also in the aspect that family members are recognized as those who are part of the support network. In the third article we verified that the woman is perceived as the main responsible for the family s constitution and maintenance. However, the participants revealed that they share responsibilities with their partners in relation to the tasks of family care and contraception, as partners assist the participants in the use of contraceptive methods. We emphasize the indications of an overlap between traditional relational aspects with new patterns of relationships. The final considerations show that family planning activities are important for the well-being and health of the population and is far from being a strategy of demographic control. The possibility of planning the family and the number and spacing of children directly influences peoples lives. Therefore, the deployment and implementation of family planning in FHS units is essential, as determined by the legislation.

In this paper we discuss the formation of environmental issues in contemporary society, its consequences and determinations. We look at how this theme is built on relations of production, permeated by the market, through the case study of the #Matas Legais# Program, developed in partnership by the Klabin company and the NGO APREMAVI. This program sets a forest development project for the production of wood for cellulose and paper and which has the "support" of the state for its realization. We found that the relations of production involved in this process are not limited to the company and the NGO, but involve transnational markets for cellulose and paper and conservation, as well as relations with the State, through the agricultural credit policies. These relationships affect the agricultural production sector, especially the family farming, defined as a process that agri-industrialization. We argue that the environmental issue has been largely absorbed by the market - area of potential exchange of goods and services - but it is still a secondary issue to the design development and the arguments around the environmental issues remain tied and subordinate to the issue of economic efficiency. To understand concretely how this occurs ownership of environmental issues by the production process and its conversion into a commodity (commodity green), we observe the production process and your valuation (green value) of wood for cellulose and paper in the planting of eucalyptus, and the socioeconomic, labor and environmental consequences. The case study was representative for the purposes of research due to the joint, in the same production process, a private company - cellulose and paper industry, generally seen as a predatory of the environment by environmentalists - along with an environmental NGO - fighting forms destructive production. This contradiction is revealed very curious, especially because the program includes rural farmers categorized as family farmers. The relationship of these three actors also involves public institutions at different levels - federal programs to encourage agricultural, municipal governments, departments and institutes of agricultural research. The study demonstrates how the environmental theme is carried into a commodity, the contradictions, the social effects and the influence of eco-political discourse on this process. This situation involved a contextualization of relations around the defense of the Atlantic accounting for environmental conservation on the one hand, and on the other issues of social and working conditions of the family farmer. We note that the logic of wasteful consumption of the environment is a necessary consequence of the relations of production specific to capitalism and the protection of the environment will only become effective in that it is structurally embedded political action founded in a different order of needs that exceed the determined by the logic of capital (190p.)

Proprieties of family farmers are responsible for producing most of the food for the internal market in Brazil and take shelter most of the rural population of the country. There is, however, a scene of precariousness in rural areas. The extreme consequence of this crisis is the migration of families to the big cities. One way to increase the quality of life in the field is to reduce the housing deficit, with the construction of suitable housing that enable families to stay. Using local and natural materials, often available in the properties, can make possible the construction of housing best suited to the rural way of life. In the west of Santa Catalina, there is a group of nine families who chose to build their homes using the earth as the main raw material. The research takes a look at this experience, and aims to verify if these self-built dwellings are appropriate to their sociocultural context. The work is based on a theoretical framework that makes the triangulation between the themes family farming, rural housing and earth architecture, and uses methods based on ethnography. From the description of the buildings, is exposed the appropriation of the techniques and the spaces by the families. Finally, is presented a discussion about the user#s satisfaction, based on their perceptions of comfort and safety. The results demonstrate that the technologies used are appropriate and enable families to remain in their proprieties. This work contributes to the deepening of rural reality of the region, focusing on housing, as well in the area of research on earth architecture.

Full textThe forestry is na activity that exert substantial importance in Brazil s economy, both by creating Jobs as the products and services offered. However, it is necessary to expand also to small farms, providing opportunities for the growth of this sector and new alternative income coupled with regional development. The South Plateau Santa Catarina is a region with a predominance of planted forests and therefore the characterization of Family forestry is importante to understand the dynamics of this activity. The objective of this study is to analyze the forestry Family from na international comparative study and case in the South Plateau Santa Catarina. For this, the survey was conducted with a qualitative approach and data collection trough on site observations and semi-structured interviews with the actors involved in this process as producers, research institutions and municipal gobernments. Besides, the literature of Family forestry at the international level was based on five countries: United States, Canada, Spain, Finland and Austria. The results indicate that there are variations in the reasons for owning forests in the countries analyzed and that strucutural changes have occurred over time, mainly related to the aging of the owners and the reduction of the área of the properties. At. The local level, were characterized three types of producers with forest plantations in smallholdings: the inhabitants of rural áreas, non-residents and fomented. Thus, it is concluded that forestry is na activity presente in small farms in the South Plateau of Santa Catarina, providing generation and diversification of income. However, it is necessary investment in research, extension programs and financial support to highlight the regional forestry potential

Full textSharing meals as a family is suggested as a public health measure because of its benefits on the health of children and teenagers. Recommendations for promoting family meals mainly derive from studies in health and nutrition. However, this thesis differs in that it studies family meals using a qualitative methodology inspired by social anthropology. It indeed presents a case study on the practices and representations associated with family meals in two single-parent families in the Québec region. The combined use of direct observation, participatory photography, logbook entries and interviews has shed new light on family meals by revealing the dynamics and meaning that underlie this practice. This study has also highlighted the variability of family meals within the families themselves, their important social dimension, their close association with family relations and the impact the composition of the family unit has on them.

Full textThese thesis approach the process of territorial formation and grow of Santa Maria De Jetiba a town in the State of Espirito Santo. Hence the goal is to understand the process of transformation of Santa Maria de Jetiba from a long period of hardship to the recently farmers economic grow. Producing food, the town conquer a high value of agriculture in the State and stands out as a second major on eggs production, also producing organic food and vegetables in the State. The identification of material and non-material elements, it was crucial for the process formation of the territory and transformation, explaining the economic growth. The fieldwork it was organized in to two parts. The fist part taking reference on the working process by Marx, and alterations as a result of the technology introduction, with elaboration of interview to farmers family members and non family members also to poultry farmers. The second part was to understand about the structure of the major economic activities, representatives of institutions related to the thesis goal. It was identified the ethical work dimension of the pomeranos and descendants, always demonstrating severe work discipline that made them standout from others european imigrants. That ethic it was a quality, despite the fact that they did not have land access and for not having a nation represented. The migration to this territory it was a possibility of economic grow through work. In addition the poultry farmers experience for commercial activities, contributed with a structure for a production chain and high level of verticality given a competitive character to the activities. Even without a favorable production context. For instance some material elements should be consider: road construction connecting Santa Maria De Jetiba to consumers majors centers ,implantation and extending of power lines in rural district are key conditions for production and agriculture, credit availability, components and modern production, constant technology evolution, innovation in agriculture, increasing productivity and decreasing production time, growth of consumers as a result from the State industrialization and urbanization, the open market that brings innovations to the automation in poultry laying, favorable natural conditions for vegetables and eggs production, close to major consumers centers. It was possible to noted the difference in technology from poultry laying and conventional vegetables and organics production. The fist constitute only by one product, the technical innovations eliminates natural barriers. On the second, because of variety of cultures, natural barriers still present. Therefore, in poultry laying the farms are predominantly bigger, the workers get paid a fixed amount of money monthly, in vegetables production the farms are smaller and the work are made by the family.

Full textThis research discusses the role of family agriculture cooperative networks in country life social and economic aspects in southern Santa Catarina. Since colonization period, mainly Italian and German, the region has a history of several agricultural cooperatives formed by agricultural product, some of which having already more than 45 years of operation. From the year 2004, seeking to meet the needs of marketing, appear new agricultural cooperatives in the decentralized model. Thus, the study aims to analyze the importance of agricultural cooperatives by product and decentralized to the social reproduction of family farmers associated with them. To meet this purpose was done a research with twenty associated from four agricultural cooperatives, two by product and two decentralized. The study shows how these cooperatives contribute positively with associated families by creating favorable marketing conditions to local farmers and also providing technical improvement. However, even with the recognition of the benefits of the cooperative, it was found that some associated have not sold their entire production through its cooperative thereby resulting in economic and social losses for the entire system.

The occupation of the Western region of Santa Catarina State was intensified by the beginnings of the 20th century, following the arrival of migrants (descendants of Europeans, mainly Italians and Germans) from the Rio Grande do Sul State. Due to the isolation of the region, they depended initially upon the exploitation of native timber as building material and for cash, as well as the marketing of 'erva-mate'. From the decade of 1970, the family farming model leveraged an intensive economic development of the agroindustrial sector, with a correspondent degradation of natural resources, especially the deforestation of native forests. Therefore, native forests conservation and restoration, mainly by the re-establishment of the Permanent Preservation Areas and Legal Reserve (two categories of ecosystem conservation in private land in Brazil) is a current challenge for these farmers. In the municipality of Anchieta, west of Santa Catarina, restrictions on the use of native forest resources along with the small size of the farmlands are the main challenges for the farmers to comply with environmental laws. This study aimed at examining the relationships between the family farmers of Anchieta with the native forest resources, as well as the insertion of native forest fragments in their production systems. We used interviews and other Ethnobotany methods, as well as case studies based on the agrarian systems theory. Our results showed that native forest resources are important part of the strategies for subsistence, especially the use of firewood for cooking and heating the house, timber for construction and renovation of houses and other farm structures, as well as material for building farming artifacts, among other uses. These farmers have a rich knowledge about the used local flora which comprises 132 native forest species. For many of these species there is a high consensus about uses. However, the use of these species has declined in recent years, mainly due to restrictions imposed by environmental laws. Dairy production is growing in importance in the local production systems, which implies an increase in the land use for grazing and the cultivation of corn to produce silage. One of the main motivations of Anchieta family farmers to conserve forest fragments is to store important resources (firewood, wood, etc.). Therefore, flexible environmental laws oriented toward this purpose may become an incentive for conserving and restoring the remnant native forests within their farms.

Full textRecent developments in contemporary psychiatry are underlined by an important change involving families as caregivers. As a consequence, more and more brothers and sisters live with their diseased sibling. This research project follows a previous research and action project involving 600 siblings of psychotic patients. This work follows a comprehensive approach that gives central focus to experience and qualitative analysis of cases.Research allows us to better understand the specific nature of schizophrenic impact on siblings that are fearful of contamination, psychic infectiousness and its influence. We need to take into account those 3 dimensions in order to develop information as well as proper follow-up for brothers and sisters.Research also allows us to identify conjoined mirror imaging between the patient and his siblings. When not too strong, this mirror imaging can represent a danger on the siblings as well on the patient himself who can see himself as a potential threat for the rest of the group. This dynamic can lead to radical movements of separation or bonding between brothers and sisters but also as a fall-back for the patient. On the other hand, if this mirror imaging is well supported by siblings, it can generate insight by the patient on his own condition and become a strong therapeutic adjunct. When co-habitation situations are trivialised, mirror imaging can become stronger. It is therefore important to consider everybody that lives under the same roof as the patient as he is discharged.Research shows that proper support of siblings relationships in cohabitation situations can lead to benefits not only on the preventive side for the siblings, but on the therapeutic side for the patient

Abstract : The National School Feeding Programme (PNAE) is managed by the National Fund for Education Development (FNDE) and aims to transfer, in a supplementary way, financial resources to the states, the Federal District and the municipalities intended to meet partially the nutritional needs of students enrolled in public and nonprofit schools. In 2009, Law 11.947 and Resolution No. 38 started to demand that from the total financial resources allocated to PNAE, at least 30% (thirty percent) must be used in the purchase of food directly from family farms and family rural entrepreneurs or their organizations. In this context, the present study used the PNAE as an empirical overview, since it is a public policy that has sought to encourage family farming, production and distribution of food at a local and regional level, sustainable rural development and the quality of school meals. The study aimed to analyze the contributions of the dynamics of purchasing food from family farmers, through PNAE, in improving its governance, the nutritional quality of meals and the production and commercial organization of family farmers. This research was designed as a multiple case study with a qualitative approach supplemented in part by a quantitative one. In the first stage of the research, an exploratory descriptive study in 10 municipalities located in the slopes of the Serra Geral in the state of Santa Catarina State was conducted. Data collection for deepening the study was conducted in the cities of Santa Rosa de Lima, Rio Fortuna Lauro Müller and through semi-structured interviews and documentary analysis. All interviewed actors participated of at least one of the following steps: buying process, supply and distribution of food used in the preparation of meals for the schoolchildren, accountability or preparation of the menu. Data from interviews and documents provided were analyzed using content analysis. The results indicate that the acquisition of food from the family farmers through PNAE brought significant contributions to the nutritional quality of meals served, to the economic sustainability and also to the productive and commercial organization of a portion of the farmers in the slopes of the Serra Geral in Santa Catarina State. The research also contributed to identify important issues related to the governance in the process of acquiring food from family farmers, demonstrating that the Board of School Feeding (CAE) of the three municipalities has acted in a fairly informal manner, harming the interaction between the directors and the discussion of important issues, which ultimately jeopardize the achievement of the tasks set out in the legislation and the governancearound the program. The inclusion of products of family farmers in the school feeding was essential to increase the supply of fruits and fresh vegetables, as well as organic foods in schools, to reduce the supply of processed products, in addition to providing greater diversification in menus, favoring the acquisition of positive eating habits. The analysis of menus prepared by nutritionists infer that they were in accordance with the legal provisions of Resolution 38, of 2009, relating to the use of basic foodstuffs, to respect the food culture of the locality and agricultural diversification in the region. The study notes that the diversity of products demanded by PNAE encourages farmers to diversify crops, which fits on the principles of agroecology, promoting the sustainability of local agroecosystems. It was evident that the supply of food for PNAE is important for the economic sustainability of the family farmers? organizations studied and that the demands of the program stimulated an increase in the number of family members and strengthened agribusinesses. However, it became clear that other ways of selling products from family farms should be encouraged by public policy, since only PNAE is unable to ensure sufficient income for the family farmers. Technical assistance, as well as greater coordination and training of the actors involved in the acquisition and marketing of foods through PNAE, may favor the development of the area, adequacy of supply and demand, as well as the nutritional and sensory quality of the food provided, facilitating the marketing of family farmers? products. Finally, this study indicates that public policies such as PNAE, when properly implemented, can produce positive changes in both the production and consumption of food, contributing to the development with sustainability and to the Food Safety and Nutrition (SAN) for students and farmers.
