ABSTRACT Deacetylation of histones is carried out by a corepressor complex in which Sin3A is an essential scaffold protein. Two proteins in this complex, the Sin3A-associated proteins SAP30L and SAP30, have previously been suggested to function as linker molecules between various corepressors. Much of the corepressor function of mSin3A derives from associations with the histone deacetylases HDAC1 and HDAC2; however, the contributions of the other mSin3A-associated polypeptides remain largely unknown. This chapter includes application of recent research on the repair and strengthening of historical structures and provides a structural assessment of five historical mosques in Albania. Apart from visual inspection, terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) data are used to analyze the historical structures. The FEM analysis conducted in SAP2000 aims to investigate the structural behavior of the undamaged model under static and dynamic loads. Stress concentration and mode period results have a considerable difference, which highlights earthquake vulnerability and changes the strategy of possible retrofitting. As a result, possible practical solutions for the structural problems based on previous research and enhancement of the existing structural resistance are suggested.

This chapter presents the nonlinear static methods of analyses for seismic design of structures considered by Eurocode 8. The first method is the nonlinear pushover procedure, which is based on the N2 method. The second method is the classical nonlinear time history analysis. The first method is studied in more detail, because the second method is a well-established procedure whose only drawback is the time necessary for the analyses. Nonlinear solvers and procedure in program Z_Soil are described. After a simple nonlinear SDOF application, a test-bed application consisting of an existing two-story reinforced concrete building in Bonefro, Italy is used to compare the two nonlinear procedures. The selected building is representative of typical residential building construction in Italy in the 1970s and 1980s. The aim of this chapter section is to compare 2D and 3D procedures implemented in Z_Soil software. The second example is a 14-story reinforced concrete building designed according to the Algerian code using Sap2000 software.
