Happiness is often considered our ultimate goal in life. This essay explores the political im- plications of this view, through the critique of happiness found in the works of Simone de Beauvoir and Sara Ahmed. Abstract:

In this thesis I interview three Swedish-born or raised racialized gay and bisexual individuals. The purpose is to examine the interviewees' experiences of being racialized and gay/bisexual in Sweden, and how they handle their experiences on an individual level. To do so I use queer theory and Sara Ahmed's phenomenology.I find that whiteness plays a crucial role in the interviewees' lives. Due to a homonationalistic logic, the interviewees are often assumed to be heterosexual. This essay aims to explain the attraction toward the main character Stavrogin that the other characters experience in Dostoevsky's The Possessed, his great novel from 1871. I will mainly employ the terms “orientation” and “disorientation” in my analysis of Stavrogin's power of attraction. This research contributes a detailed personal account of a FEMEN activist. It presents an autophenomenographic analysis of cultural artefacts, including a Retrospective Diary, resulting from the activity of Yelena Myshko in FEMEN between 2012 and 2014. Previously FEMEN has been used as raw material for external analysis by press and academics to fit their individual agendas. This dissertation examines lesbian and queer desire in texts in Catalan and Spanish written in Barcelona, Montevideo, and Buenos Aires from the 1960s to the present. In the texts, desire includes but is not limited to the erotic; it encompasses issues of queer textuality, relationality, and literary transmission.
