Full textThe humor is the object of study of this research was to stand Le Messager Popoli (LMP), Cameroonian satirical press. The main objective is to demonstrate that beyond its fun features, marketing, media criticism and demarcation of humor is indicative of the Cameroonian linguistic identity. Assuming that the game in LMP is based on language code, the humor is studied in terms of linguistic incongruity, that means in the report of the out of the language standard because of the distance between the French interlingual standard and French as used in this paper. This work highlights the mechanisms of humor and releases their operation. It has humor LMP as the product of a semiotic construction draws its tasty flavors in the local context of pregnancy and in the creative fertility of its editors. It also attempts, through humor, to grasp the dynamics of French Cameroon, and through him, the Cameroonian society. This research does not neglect the aspect of non-verbal (iconic) presents it as complementary to the verbal message, but especially as photography-identity of the company that gives the iconic representation. It is what justifies the semiolinguistic chosen approach

Full textThe author of this thesis, who started his work in 1993 and attended his viva on december 12th 1997, intends to analyse the treatment of international news in the french-speaking press of africa. His research focuses on two countries, gabon and cameroon. In order to carry out such a task, the author made up a sample with six newspapers representative of the media in both countries : (l'union, la relance, la cle, gabon libre) for gabon ; (cameroon tribune and le messager) for cameroon. The first part deals with the conditions of production. This study proves that people, in the gabonese and the cameroonian press industry, work in a hard universe (as far as the public media are concerned), and even sometimes in miserable conditions (as far as the private media are concerned). The second part, whit analyses the content of newspapers, reveals a sharp abundance of national news compared to international. Such a lack of international content can be connected to three factors : first, some newspapers consider coverage of national events to be the most important thing; second, most people are illiterate, which reduces the number of readers ; third, the national press agencies haven't got room for manoeuvre because of the monopoly of both france-press agency and reuter. Each of those news agencies competes with each other at the international level and has a near impregnable sphere of influence in africa ; the fpa rules over news reporting of french-speaking countries, whereas reuter takes charge of english-speaking countries. This monopolistic situation often prevents national news agencies from signing new contracts of subscription with other international news agencies. Before making suggestions that might improve the results of both gabonese and cameroonian papers, the author stresses the importance of the role of african intellectuels in order to reach many objectives. Besides, he appeals to western intellectuals who seem to him to be the most reliable partners for tomorrow's africa

Full text"modern cameroon is the result of two communities emerging from a joint francobritish colonisation. From that the institution of an official bilingualism was designed to express this origin. The media of the state are construed following this dualist logic and is composed of bilingual wording. Now, despite an institutional environment preaching a "united voice", the official press produces a polyphonic discourse, often contrary to government stipulations. These differences are often due to the english-speaking journalists who use the media as a means of assertion and as a vehicle for political demands in the face of a french-speaking majority power. In this way cameroon journalists seem to have developed notable specific pratices of reflecting the "interior" environment which is reflected by their activity, and tending to reproduce strong relationships which cross the socio-political field of a country where englishspeakers and french-speaking build up, consciously or not, strategies directed at maintaining or modifiying the balance of forces which govern their relationships"

Full textThe purpose of this thesis is to provide both an overview and an analysis of the satirical journals published during the last years of Francoism and the Democratic Transition. Indeed, the country underwent many dramatic political and social changes between 1970 and 1982, which objectively represents a relatively short, extremely eventful period in the history of Spain and Catalonia. As concerns the press, the coming into effect of the Ley de Prensa e Imprenta in March 1966 marked an inflection point by suppressing prior censorship and paving the way for much more critical and irreverent publications, such as Mata Ratos, Barrabás or Por Favor, at the beginning of the 1970’s. Very much in debt to Catalan satirical tradition (e.g. Xut!, El Be Negre or ¡Cu-Cut!), the publications of the time were also influenced by the French, American, and English press (Hara Kiri, Charlie Hebdo, National Lampoon, Punch, etc.). Gradually, they succeeded in breaking the straitjacket of censorship at the cost of numerous confiscations, trials, suspensions and condemnations. Following two troubled years between 1976 and 1978, when editorial offices were subject to increasingly oppressive threats of attack, the advent of democracy was the starting point of a new, more general type of humor embodied by El Jueves and based on societal and current events. Due to their specific style and to the themes they dealt with, these satirical journals made a deep mark on society and on the political period. Their impact has endured, since El Jueves is still published in 2017
Diallo, Fatoumata Diaraye.

Full textMany studies have been made of the neologistic phenomenon, both in terms of the contexts in which it is used and of how it integrates into discourse. The satirical neology is less well documented. By using a corpus made up of press cartoons in the political French and German satirical magazines Le Canard enchaîné et Eulenspiegel, the study first posits the morphological devices of the lexical innovation : derivation, composition, portmanteau-words, abbreviation, conversion, loan. This work then explores the strategies which characterise the use of the satirical neology as well as the semantic and pragmatic effects aimed in the lexical creations. This allowed us to make a contrastive analysis between satirical French and German texts by the various discursive uses of neologisms

Full textThis thesis analyzes the satirical humour discourse that aims at the presidential institution, by focusing on how its content and form are constituted and interrelated. Based on a bicultural approach (France-Argentina) aiming to contribute to the conceptualization of transcultural humour, we put forward that beyond local specificities, it is possible to construct a grammar, or a system of invariants, constituted by verbal and visual codes.Following an approach based on information and communication sciences, we merge different theoretical and methodological perspectives to analyse two corpora of titles and images (political cartoons and strips), from the weekly Le Canard enchaîné and the weekly newspaper supplement Sátira/12, that deal with Jacques Chirac and Carlos Menem, respectively, at moments of great political importance of their two presidential terms

Thesis, Lyon 3, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013LYO30039/document.
Full textAlfred de Musset polemicist? The subject could surprise anyone who knows the slightest bit of the work of the poet, who has continued to assert his independence from the parties and his refusal to be a "pamphleteer" and to endorse the hugolian posture of “the man of the century and its passions”, or anyone who sticks with the stereotypical image of "light poet" and unworthy citizen long mediated by his detractors and scholar textbooks. And yet, a good part of his artwork, poetry, drama and prose, makes the trial of his era, denounces new dogmas and cliches of the century, and joins to the tradition of the classic satire. Withdrawal posture adopted by Musset against enemy schools, neoclassical and romantic’s one, is more widely a controversial posture, and at the same time Musset opts there also for the distance : he’s involved in controversy while denying argue. This agonistic dimension appears particularly in the prose works of Musset, and particularly in his critical articles and journalistic chronicles, but it crosses also, like lightning fleeting and glowing, his novels (The Confession of a child of the century is also a harsh condemnation of the century), while his Short-Stories and his Tales get back to the paths of the classic satire. The present study proposes to examine the links that bind, in Musset’s works, polemicity and genericity. It opts for a stylistic approach of the work, which is rich in forms and genres whose analysis is inseparable from taking account of the context of their production (the July monarchy and the "romantic battle") as of the journalistic media that welcomes them: Mixtures of literature and criticism are forms and genres where Musset turns out to be a “writer- journalist” despite his dislike of the press. Musset reworks these forms and these genres according to the polemics he inserts, and reciprocally adapts forms of the controversy, even the degree of polemicity, with the invested genre. He refuses to be bitter controversialist but uses various stylistic devices and intertexts specifics to polemical and satirical modes. He paradoxically attacks the controversies and opts for an ethos of "jester dandy", willingly mocking and flippant, betting on the connivance with the reader, and suspicious of the violence of the language of contemporary polemic’s forms.Master ironist, adept at subverting the genres from the inside by a fictionnalisation of journalistic forms and by the polemisation of a priori not polemical genres, to refute the counter-discourse as well through parody and pastiche as a subtle refutation’s rhetoric, Musset suggests however behind derision an ambiguous, disenchanted and dual voice, where the utterance lashes out against the enunciation to the extent of blurring sometimes the readability of the controversy, in a logic of "nineteenth’s" irony. As it emerges, Musset’s controversy tackles "ready to believe" of his time, but often also turns against himself, this “child of the century”, in the logic of a romantic irony

Full textThe newspaper stall constitutes an environment for daily human interactions. As one passes by the Yaounde and Douala major crossroads, it’s impressive to see the crowds gathered around the newspaper stalls. For many people, it has become a daily appointment for endless debates. The question is: Why do people spend so much of their time around those newspaper stalls? Is it because they are idlers? Or is it because they are truly interested in newspapers? Our thesis dissertation is aimed at analyzing the logics that structure the phenomenon of crowds around the newspaper stalls, and questioning the nature and content of the discussions resulting from peoples’ interactions in those places. From our observations on the field, and from the interviews carried out, it appears that the main reason why people gather around the newspapers stall is their search for information. Because of the economic crisis many people can’t afford to buy a newspaper. Therefore, they are often contempted with reading the titles on the front pages and when possible, gathering supplementary information from those who may have had the privilege to read the articles. Within this framework, spontaneous discussions and debates merge, which give the protagonists the opportunity to say their mind, and thus feel as if they are expressing their right to free speech, which symbolizes democracy and as such stands as a fundamental element in the public space
