Application for a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in general surgery includes assessment of a validated logbook. The content of a satisfactory logbook has long been an area of contention. The logbook allows trainees to record their operative experience and to show the level of supervision. It is tempting to set a specific number of procedures to be completed by the end of training. However, such a number must be evidence based rather than chosen subjectively.

AbstractChatbots show promise as a novel way to provide support to students. However, a central issue with new technologies such as chatbots is whether students trust the technology. In the present study, we use a chatbot to proactively offer academic and non-academic support to students (N = 274) in a Finnish vocational education and training (VET) organization. Students responded to the chatbot with a very high response rate (86%), and almost one-fifth (19%) of the respondents disclosed a need for support. Survey with a subset of participants (N = 49) showed satisfactory trust (total trust score 71% as measured by a human-computer trust scale) and satisfaction (average of 3.83 as measured by a five-point customer satisfaction instrument) with the chatbot. Trust was positively correlated with satisfaction as well as students’ likelihood to respond to the chatbot. Our results show that this kind of approach is applicable for recognizing students’ latent needs for support. Future studies should target the formation of trust in more detail and cultural differences in trusting chatbots.

Abstract:
AbstractArguably the greatest challenge within Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is reconstruction following major trauma or oncologic ablative surgery that restores the patient’s pre-morbid quality of life. Satisfactory reconstruction of the maxillofacial region needs to address both cosmetic and often functional concerns beyond those encountered at other sites in the body. Even small facial defects can lead to cosmetic deformity that impacts significantly on a patient’s psychosocial well-being if not reconstructed appropriately. There have been many technological advances over the last few decades, particularly with respect to free tissue transfer and transplantation. In contrast, a number of techniques have ancient origins that have been refined over the years. Many defects will have multiple reconstructive options and a number of factors require consideration to decide which are appropriate for an individual patient. In this chapter anatomical units of the oral cavity (lip, cheek, tongue, floor of mouth and palate), and face (forehead, orbit, nose, cheek and ear) are considered in turn, with reconstructive options presented from simple to complex.

AbstractUnruptured brain AVMs (bAVMs) remain a controversial subject for practicing neurosurgeons, especially in the light of ARUBA and other observational studies. This retrospective study aims to analyze our experience with unruptured bAVMs to see whether it is beneficial in the long-term and how it corresponds to large literature trials. The study comprised 160 adult patients with unruptured bAVMs surgically treated in Burdenko NMC (Moscow) in 2009–2017. Mean age: 33.4 ± 10лет. Clinical presentations were: seizures in 99 (61.9%), chronical headaches—49 (30.6%), ischemic symptoms—4 (2.5%), asymptomatic in 8 (5%) patients. Spetzler-Martin scale: I—18 pt. (11.3%), II—71 pt. (44.4%), III—60 pt. (37.5%), IV—11 pt. (6.8%). Good outcomes (mRS = 0–2) at discharge were achieved in 149 (93.1%), satisfactory (mRS—3)—9 (5.6%). Follow-up was complete for 97 (60.6%) patients, mean—59.3 (13–108 month). Excellent outcomes (mRS = 0–1) reached in 94.8%. For epilepsy patients, Engel I outcome was found in 50 (84.8%); for chronic headaches, 43 (66.1%) patients reported improvement. Postoperative visual field defects were followed in 22 of 55 (40%), complete recovery was reported in 6 (27%) and partial recovery in 8 (36%) patients. Overall, our results support the conclusion that surgery for low-grade bAVMs (S-M I–II) is a beneficial, low-risk option.

Results identified four game design features and student personal factors (reading proficiency) that significantly impacted student game flow experience. Students made significant science content learning gains as a result of gameplay, but game flow experience did not predict learning gains. The study demonstrated that the game was effective in supporting students' flow experience and science content learning. The findings indicated that the adapted game flow experience survey provided a satisfactory measure of students' game flow experience. Abstract The engineers have to face very important problems in the design, the test, the survey and the maintenance of their structures. These problems did not yet get full answer even from the best people in the world. Abstract:
The computations of curve-curve and surface-surface intersections are considered difficult problems in geometric design. Numerous results were annually published on these topics for the last several decades. Moreover, the detection and more so the computation and even elimination of self-intersections in freeform curves and surfaces is viewed by many as a far more challenging problem, with much fewer satisfactory results. In recent years, several methods were developed to robustly detect, compute and even eliminate self intersections in general freeform (typically NURBs) curves and surfaces, e

Content in digital services is often filtered for users based on individual preferences with the possible consequence of creating a state referred to as a “filter bubble”. The objective of this paper is to examine which of a user’s inherent needs that are important to satisfy when a user is consuming personalized content in a digital service. The paper uses a survey to measure the need for autonomy, competence and relatedness of the SelfDetermination Theory when users are consuming filtered content in digital services. The results show that the investigated services fail to satisfy all needs.

Employee turnover has always been a problem for both employees and employers. Replacing employees may be costly, both in recruiting and training employees to obtain satisfactory levels of performance over time. The main theme discussed in the paper is turnover intention and it’s connection with organization’s motivation profile. High levels of employee turnover may decrease the quality and stability of services that organizations provide and as a result, that will increase client dissatisfaction with the services provided by the organization. That’s why it is very important for organizations t

Objective: To design and implement a laboratory teaching/learning strategy applied to male infertility diagnostic during COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Seventy-five students attending Module 3 (M3): Male Infertility Diagnostic Laboratories, of curricular unit Laboratories in Biomedicine 5 were divided into 8 groups to reduce students’ number in class. M3 was organized in 2 Wet labs (WL; laboratory training) and 2 Dry labs (DL; theoretical-practical classes). At the end of M3, students completed a satisfaction survey. Results: Results showed that most students were satisfied with topics addressed,

Abstract:
This study is the latest in a series monitoring the evolution of poverty, based on data gathered by The ESRI in the Living in Ireland Surveys since 1994. These have allowed progress towards achieving the targets set out in the National Anti Poverty Strategy since 1997 to be assessed. The present study provides an updated picture using results from the 2000 round of the Living in Ireland survey. The numbers interviewed in the 2000 Living in Ireland survey were enhanced substantially, to compensate for attrition in the panel survey since it commenced in 1994. Individual interviews were conducted
