Enabling the religious duty of enjoining virtue and forbidding vice was one of the most important functions of the Islamic state historically. The public enforcement of this duty, hisbah, was entrusted to the muhtasib, an officer who acted as moral censor and market inspector. This study examined the ecological role of herbivory on coral reefs of the Saudi Arabian Gulf coast. Herbivory is a ubiquitous process and important in regulating benthic marine communities. Three reef sites were studied over a 12-month period; one on an inshore fringing reef (1.5 m depth), and two on the fringing reef surrounding an offshore island (3 m and 11 m depth). Abstract:
In 2017, the Saudi Arabian Government through its Ministry of Housing, announced that it planned to build 1.45 million affordable houses by 2030. The government will contribute to the cost of the houses to put them within the price range of people with modest incomes. Central to achieving this goal is the use of innovative, high-tech construction methods, mainly 3D printing. Several prototype houses have been constructed and more are planned to give Saudis an opportunity to experience them first-hand before a decision is made to go ahead with the planned rollout.
